[Bug 529714] Re: rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV in _nss_wins_gethostbyname_r()

2011-03-26 Thread Mike Ferreira
Update/Observation -- I know you all have bounced this around pointing
fingers here and there (Samba group, server group, Rhythmbox group...
etc) I think as last (as I remember) you had changed it from samba to
server...

Well here's a wrench to throw at that logic -- I just set uo one of my spares
here with Ubuntu 10.10 Server Edition with LAMP, Samba, SSH, Tomcat, EUC
frontend, etc, ... Comfigured all including smb shares. Installed 3 GUI shells
(ubuntu-desktop, kubuntu-desktop, xubuntu-desktop) as well as editing grub2 to
easily come into it's native text console... I configured Rythymbox on it the
get its music from a mounted Windows share (on another server) AND GUESS WHAT???
Differences in desktup and server kerne
Rhythembox and all the extansion (including the Ubuntu Music Store runs
perfectly!!! The machine I am having problems on is running LAMP and Samba
services. The only obvios differnce on the machine that works from the one
that I am having the problems on is the machine machine that is working is
running the server kernel...

From the server guide, the differences betweeen the server and desktop kernel
are:
 - :The Server Edition uses the Deadline I/O scheduler instead of the CFQ
scheduler used by the Desktop Edition.
 - Preemption is turned off in the Server Edition.
 - The timer interrupt is 100 Hz in the Server Edition and 250 Hz in the
Desktop Edition.:

I don't know, but it's working on this machine and not my other that is
running server services on the desktop kernel. SO... might some of the
config options that are different between /boot/config-2.35.xx-general
and /boot/config-2.35.xx-server be doing this? If so, seems that it
might not be a server issue, but rather how the desktop kernel is
configured. (Just an mystery tio me.)

[Bug 742994] [NEW] package squid 2.7.STABLE7-1ubuntu12.2 failed to install/upgrade: le sous-processus script post-installation installé a retourné une erreur de sortie d'état 1

2011-03-26 Thread Gérard B4
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: squid

Today, the PC requested to load several updates. The update process failed at
least for one package (squid).
What I know is that squid was running well before the update (together with
squidguard, for internet site filtering. I had firefox running during the
update). I saw tha failure only after I finished surfing (closed firefox) and
when attempting to report the bug, the net filtering is out of order (firefox
could not connect to the web) and I had to by pass it in order to sent the

I'd forgotten about this because I'd gotten an email that someone had junked

I would have to go back and retest but from watching some of the lists there
still seems to be a fair number of people describing
the same symptoms.

[Bug 603363] Re: sshd never stops, prevents umount of /usr partition

2011-03-26 Thread cgi
After applying this patch today and doing a reboot I COULDN'T ACCESS my
(virtual) server via ssh (Ubuntu 10.04). The sshd-service failed to
start and report these two lines in /var/log/daemon.log:

--
init: ssh main process terminated with status 255
init: Failed to spawn ssh pre-start process: unable to set oom adjustment:
Operation not permitted
--

I have to replace the new /etc/init/ssh.conf with the old config-file
and to reboot again. Fortunally the update-manager had made a backup of
the old file.

best regards,
cgi

[Bug 743280] [NEW] Folder-watching is broken

2011-03-26 Thread Sebastian Hauser
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

# lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS
Release:10.04

# apt-cache policy samba
samba:
  Installiert: 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.5
  Kandidat: 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.5

I have my music stored on a samba-share. I'm using foobar2000 wich monitors my
music. Every time I change some files on my share I get errors in foobar2000.

I did some research and found the problem. This is the way you can reproduce
and monitor it on my pc:
- Add a share to the foobar200 library
- Start Wireshark, and filter the view by smb.nt.function == 4.
- Start Process Monitor, filter everything out except foobar2000.exe. Perhaps
go to Filter Highlight and exclude Result in SUCCESS, FAST IO
DISALLOWED and NAME NOT FOUND, to see the interesting lines more easily.
- Rename one of the files in the monitored folder.

Now if it's broken:
- The status of the ML directory changes to Error!.
- Message like Folder watching failure: The specified server cannot perform
the requested operation. is logged to the console.
- Process Monitor log contains 0xC0C3 result code for the
NotifyChangeDirectory call.
- Wireshark captured a NT Trans Response, FID: 0x, NT NOTIFY with the
change notification. It contains at least two parameters, like RENAMED_OLD_NAME
and RENAMED_NEW_NAME, and the first has File Name Len not divisible by 4 and
Next Entry Offset neither.
- There are no further NT NOTIFY responses because the connection is closed
due to error by the Win7 client.

Here's how that part should be implemented:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee441569(v=prot.13).aspx
Each entry in the list MUST be DWORD aligned (32-bit aligned), so
NextEntryOffset MUST be a multiple of 4.

And according to samba this is a bug and it got fixed in one of their newer
releases:
http://www.samba.org/samba/history/samba-3.5.6.html
BUG 7662: Align change notify replies on 4-byte boundary

[Bug 683591] Re: sensors-applet randomly picks up duplicates

2011-03-26 Thread Alex Murray
From the debug output it looks like there are already duplicate entries
for some sensors saved in sensors-applet's settings - basically what is
happening is that libsensors is not providing consistent naming of
sensors across reboots - so on first boot sensors-applet gets the list
of sensors from libsensors with names A,B,C say, and then saves this
list of sensors in its settings along with whether they are enabled etc,
graph colour and whotnot. Then on next boot, for the same set of
sensors, libsensors returns names D,E,F and so these look like different
sensors (they have different names) and so sensors-applet may also save
this new list of sensors to its settings - so now in the sensors-applet
settings we have sensors A,B,C,D,E,F even though at any one time there
is really only either A,B,C or D,E,F - so this is really a bug in
libsensors for not providing consistent naming, not sensors-applet since
there is no way to know that D is really A since it actually looks like
a new sensor.

[Bug 377967] Re: Incorrect(?) USB Id in the database: 1941:8021 Watson W-8681

2011-03-26 Thread John C Barstow
This USB id is also used by the USB drum kit sold by ThinkGeek, which
also handles everything via client software.

I suspect that it's actually a generic serial-to-USB converter; that
would explain why it shows up in such diverse products and also why
these products require specific client software to drive them.

that I am having the problems on is the machine machine that is working is
running the server kernel...

[Bug 512609] Re: Width and height don't match in Rectangle and Selection tools

2011-03-26 Thread ~suv
@Agent24 - can't reproduced your example. Please attach an SVG file with
such a rectangle (supposed geometric size 108x40mm, stroke width 0.1mm,
selection size 135.035x50.35mm), so that other can investigate. Did you
check that you actually used mm for the stroke width?

[Bug 463435] Re: Update errors out with Hash Sum mismatch

2011-03-26 Thread Jarl
The analysis is most likely correct. But that does not resolve the
problem. The problem being ubuntu configured to use a mirror (like
http://dk.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/...) and update manager
notifies the user that an upgrade is available before it reaches the
configured mirror (http://dk.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/...)

So what kind of information do you need? The problem is most likely
reproducible with the following steps:
1. Configure your ubuntu to use mirror site (like
http://dk.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/...)
2. Configure your update manager (KPackageKit) to check for updates hourly.
3. Let the computer stay turned on the day a new release is released and
observe.
4. As soon as the update manager notifies you of a new release, choose to
upgrade your ubuntu.

Jarl

[Bug 742964] [NEW] shift-click ctrl-click not working

2011-03-26 Thread Dan Muresan
Public bug reported:

In xtightvncviewer shift-click and ctrl-click behave as normal clicks,
making it impossible to select multiple items. Server is tightvnc, and
can be on a windows or on a linux host with the same result.

Easiest to reproduce by running a tightvncserver, then connecting to it
with 'xtightvncviewer localhost:1'

both are affected

[Bug 742966] [NEW] aapplications not accessable since update

2011-03-26 Thread tquetano
Public bug reported:

Since performing the update to unity 2d earlier this evening (I imagine
to rectify the 2 unknown processes upon closeout) my applications menu
does not open anything, and the access icon at the top which leads to
the primary eight applications works, but has no labels any longer.
additionally, files and folders does not function in the same manner:

i can click on the icon, and right click for specific choices of the
menu, but it does not open anything. prior to the update, everything was
performing correctly.

edit: this is meant for the unity 2d application specifically, not
ubuntu overall; I clicked the bugs tab on the unity 2d page and didn't
realize it redirected me. forgive me, its my first attempt at a bug
report.

[Bug 704187] Re: Unable to add Wine applications to Unity launcher

2011-03-26 Thread Brandon Behnen
First off, I apologize if the following post is hard to
understand/comprehend; I have a hard time conveying thoughts and ideas
using text. I'll attach screenshots that try to explain the written
steps.

I have the solution to this bug. The reason why the wine application
launcher is being shown as the launcher icon is because the wine app is
being opened from within the wine prefix. That means that wine is being
launched, and then the windows application is being launched inside of
it. By default wine attempts to launch the .lnk shortcut file that
points to the .exe in the wine folder.

The solution is to create a .desktop file in a location that is looked
at by the launcher and to change the command so that wine directly
launches the application's executable. Below is a tutorial on how to
add Microsoft Word 2007 to the Unity launcher:

1)Open the following: Applications - System - Main Menu
2)Highlight Applications on the left side list
3)Click the New Menu and in the popup box give it a name of wine-apps
or something of the sort. The launcher will look in this folder and add any
items in it to the All Applications portion of the launcher later on...
4)On the left side list expand the following: Applications - Wine -
Programs - Microsoft Office
5)Highlight the following: Microsoft Office Word 2007
6)Drag and Drop into the menu on the left hand side that you created
earlier in step 3
5)Click on the menu on the left side of the window that was created in step
3
6)You should see the Microsoft office word launcher on the right side of
the window
9)Highlight it and click on Properties.
10) Change the command box to match the following (change %USERNAME% to match
yours accordingly):
  wine /home/%USERNAME%/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Microsoft
Office/Office12/WINWORD.EXE
11) If the icon is the default wine icon, click on it and browse to this
directory (all Wine application icons should be located here):
/home/%USERNAME%/.local/share/icons
11) Click on the Close button twice to close out of the main menu app.
12) Reboot the computer, or log off and back on. This will allow the launcher
to repull the proper .desktop files and it should populate the All
Applications with the launcher icon you just made
13) Open the launcher icon and once the program has loaded in Wine you should
be able to right click the icon in the launcher and pin it. Also the icon in
the launcher should have the same icon as the application does in windows.

That is a lot of steps, and it's rather time consuming, but it does
work. I just started using ubuntu about a month ago and i just installed
the netbook remix version yesterday night. So if there was a much
shorter/condensed way of doing that, then please let me know.

This above steps should work with any windows applications that are
installed in wine. The instrucions will just have to modified to reflect
whatever you are trying to add to the launcher. I did the above steps
with word and excel and I could pin both to the unity launcher and I
could have both word and excel running at the same time and both opened
from the Unity launcher.

Enjoy,
Brandon B.

[Bug 704187] Re: Unable to add Wine applications to Unity launcher

2011-03-26 Thread Brandon Behnen
CORRECTION:
I mis-numbered the above steps, the second step 5 and step 6 should be steps 7
and 8 respectively. I am also attaching a 2nd screenshot to show the results.

[Bug 255030] Re: Eog creates thumbnails even when deactivated in gnome

2011-03-26 Thread arQon
and sent to the mailing list, which is what i actually came here to post
but forgot...

heh - i'm not going to redesign and rewrite *that*, Mike: it's so
integral it would probably be quicker to just start again from
(near-)scratch. it's not ideal, but it seems to work for everything
outside of the pathological cases i spotted, so i think i'll stick to
lower-hanging fruit instead. :P

thanks for the feedback/suggestions/etc

[Bug 706795] Re: [All releases] Suspend/Resume with rootfs on USB, causes filesystem corruptions and kernel panic on mount attempt, leaving system unbootable with data lost.

2011-03-26 Thread Hendrik van Wyk
This seems very similar to what I am seeing on my system if I use 2.6.37
instead of maveric's usual 2.6.35. I have been running ubuntu off of a
flash drive on this system since 9.04 and only recently stared to
encounter this. Unlike the original report I have never had the
accompanying kernel panics at boot. Fsck runs at boot and manages to
repair the filesystem and then boot properly.

It should probably be noted that my setup is a little different in that
I run two USB flash drives in RAID 0 instead of a single drive and that
my /boot partition is on the SSD that came with the laptop and has so
far not been affected by this. I did also run a single USB drive for a
while a year or so back and I do not recall encountering this issue.

It's not dpkg-buildpackage which is showing an internal error but the lintian
test code. In fact we don't see any output from a dpkg tool here. The only
problem that has been reported as being a dpkg problem was reported in
http://bugs.debian.org/619541.

Reassigning to lintian for the rest (feel free to open more targetted
bugs if dpkg is doing something unexpected).

[Bug 721356] Re: [Maverick] r8192s_usb firmware not found

2011-03-26 Thread Zeno Izen
  * Add link for RTL8192SU firmware
Create a link from RTL8192SU - RTL8192SE as testing proved the same
firmware works for both.
- LP: #721356

This change appears to have affected my EDIMAX EW-7811Un adaptor (RTL8188CUS
chipset). Seeks, but can't find the network.

Problem is somewhat over my head, but I'm trying to figure it out.

[Bug 657494] Re: software-center crashed with DBusException in call_blocking()

2011-03-26 Thread Tony Mugan
Finally to rectify I rerun software center with root privileges

sudo software-center

This tells me

Items cannot be installed or removed until the package catalog is
repaired. Do you want to repair it now?

Once Update Manager has finished the repairs, you can close it and
return to the store.

(Note that it is not actually Update Manager that is running. The text may be
worth fixing also.)
I then hit the repair button and it says Repairing broken deps.

Chrome is still not installed at this point (Ithink, too late to confirm
now) but I can rerun my command line and it is installed correctly
without error...

[Bug 742979] [NEW] Shortcut icons for local and global version of same program get mixed.

2011-03-26 Thread Zilvador
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Reproducible.
I downloaded Firefox 4 and while having a shortcut for Firefox 3.6 on my panel,
I unzipped the FF4 folder and dragged the launcher to the panel to create a
shortcut. I gave it a distinct name and both this one and the original one
worked.
After restart the new AND the original launcher point to FF4, which was
installed in my private directory and they have the same distinct name, that I
gave the first one (that is, they are identical except for their positions on
the panel). I can rename the path of the original launcher again, but the same
thing happens.
Tried two times with same result.

This is useful when finding a software after a search: going to the category

[Bug 742957] Re: FireFox 3.6.x with Xulrunner-1.9.2 update(s) offered when FireFox 4.0 is installed

2011-03-26 Thread Chris Coulson
I'm not sure why you think this is a bug. update-manager is only
offering the xulrunner update, which is totally expected if you have it
installed. In any case, it wouldn't have been a bug with xulrunner
anyway.

[Bug 742475] Re: Firefox 4 does not use Ubuntu Notifications

2011-03-26 Thread Chris Coulson
We don't support third party extensions, so you need to talk to the
developers of xul-ext-notify if you want it to work in Firefox 4. In any
case, Firefox already supports libnotify notifications, but it falls
back to its own XUL notifications on Ubuntu because notify-osd doesn't
support actions. Overriding this would provide an even more sub-optimal
experience (download finished notifications with no obvious way to
access those downloads are completely useless), so it's totally the
wrong thing to do.

What should happen is that download progress should be integrated with
the launcher in Unity, but that's not for the natty timeframe.

[Bug 512609] Re: Width and height don't match in Rectangle and Selection tools

2011-03-26 Thread ~suv
Your example file was not originally created in Inkscape:
!-- Generator: Adobe Illustrator 9.0, SVG Export Plug-In --

It uses a combination of width/height and viewBox to set the dimensions
of all contained elements of the main viewport (Inkscape itself doesn't
create a viewBox attribute itself, but does respect it when rendering):

   width=541.41699pt
   height=541.41602pt
   viewBox=0 0 541.417 541.416

Attaching the same file recreated with Inkscape without using the
viewBox attribute: now the relation between rectangle and visual bbox
dimensions are correct.

Yes the stroke is definitely 0.01mm

As far as I know, such small stroke widths (basically none, or at least
my eyes would not see a line with the width of a one-hundredth mm
without a magnifier) are rounded up to a minimal width in the dimensions
on the controls bar of the select tool. My example file uses 0.1 mm to
better illustrate the relations between the geometric dimensions of a
shape and the visual bounding box dimensions).

[Bug 742985] [NEW] Lenses with no shortcut still display black box when pressing super

2011-03-26 Thread Greg Auger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

Take a look at the screenshot. This was taken whilst pressing the Super
button.

The first ten application launchers are labelled 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0.
The next two have no black box because we run out of numbers (expected
behaviour).

We then have the lenses. The Ask Ubuntu one has not specified a
shortcut, so just has a black box with no letter in it. Presumably it
should either be compulsory to specify a shortcut, or the Unity Launcher
should not display the black box if a shortcut is not specified.

[Bug 711366] Re: update to 2011.02

2011-03-26 Thread Berezin Kirill
Gatlin, you're right, backwards compatibility is important. But in my
opition Haskell Platform itself should be up-to-date, but GHC may have
different branches as, for example, gcc has. There are only ghc6
metapackage is in the repository, but there are should be both ghc6 and
ghc7 with haskell-platfrom dependent on ghc7, IMHO.

I did a new install of Ubuntu 10.10 and was hit by this bug. My graphic card is

I have also confirmed that the bug is due to the rotation of my left monitor.

Does this bug affect also 10.04? I.e. can I get around this problem by
installing that instead?

[Bug 516018] Re: cups 400 Bad Request for fully qualified host name

2011-03-26 Thread Zero
Also I think this is important to support HOST.local
(avahi/bonjour/ZeroConf) type of name resolution.

I have a home network in wich i can't manage the routers dns since it
only relays a dns from the cloud and al machines are assigned via dhcp
so no static ips.

Avahi and Bonjour in Mac and Windows hosts have helped me to manage
internal names and services on my lan, having a server with a dynamic ip
is not ideal, but is the way It works better on the router side.
