[Bug 626622] Re: daily maverick live cd won't boot with acpi on

2011-05-17 Thread DGelling
Finally installed Natty, but also still have this same problem. I can
confirm that pci=nomsi fixes the problem, as does acpi=off and nolapic.
Installed the intel-microcode package, but this doesn't change anything.
Maybe I need to do more than just installing it, but I'm not sure what.
In any case I can live with booting with pci=nomsi.

As an aside, installing a non-ubuntu kernel does fix the problem (I was
using the liquorix kernels no problem)

[Bug 784142] [NEW] BCM43225 802.11: Fn-keys for activating WiFi stopped working after update

2011-05-17 Thread Kito
Public bug reported:

I have one annoying issue with my BCM43225 802.11b/g/n device on my Acer
emachines E732G. After downloading updates recently (between 27th and
30th of April) my Fn-keys for turning WiFi on/off stopped working. WiFi
itself works fine and can be activated/deactivated by rightclick on
Network Manager.

rfkill list does not give any output

lsmod | grep acer does not give any output

[Bug 778618] Re: ubuntu 11.04 shutdown menu -- system settings should be somewhere

2011-05-17 Thread shinyblue
Who on earth thought that was a good place for it?! Hmmm, complete this
sentence:

Several times a day I will want to:
a) shutdown my PC
b) reconfigure my operating system's settings.

Is it just because unity trashed the very useful System menu? At least
let us Classical Ubuntu types have it moved out of the shutdown.

[Bug 659438] Re: Installation/Removal fails because of package which could not be located (failure in apt.Cache.required_download)

2011-05-17 Thread GTriderXC
The bug occured but the program had been installed succesfully. The
problem was that in software center there still was an Install button.
So I was unable to neitehr get rid of it or install it properly.
Software Center didn't work as it should so I tried to open Synaptic.
When I did it a message appeared to run in a terminal sudo dpkg
--configure -a. After that I easily got rid of the improperly installed
program and was able to give another try which was succesful.

[Bug 784152] [NEW] package man-db 2.5.9-4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-05-17 Thread Nathan Forbes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: man-db

Not sure honestly. I just get the detected system error dialog after a
reboot and once logged in. The first time it happened I just ignored it,
but here it is again so I figured I would send it this way...

After clicking through the detected system error dialogs I'm brought
to this dialog about the `man-db' package. I've never saw any mention of
issues with this when using the console to update upgrade.

[Bug 772577] Re: Kernel in Natty disconnects Huawei E160G, ModemManager can't use it

2011-05-17 Thread sardylan
I've the same problem with a 64bit version of Ubuntu Natty (11.04), and a
Huawei E165G USB HDSPA modem.
I think that the problem is in the kernel module, because of this message:
kernel: [ 287.000190] option: option_instat_callback: error -108
The USB device is reseted every 15-20 secs, with 5 or 10 secs of freeze.

[Bug 784155] [NEW] Grub2 is booting first OS rather than default OS

2011-05-17 Thread John Gerardi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub2

I have a problem with Natty and grub2. I tried using Start Manager to change
the default OS and it continues to boot the first entry in the list, which is
Natty. I also tried editing /etc/default/grub and changed the
grub default to 10 (the number of the line I want to boot, a Win7 OS). Then
executed sudo update-grub2, to no avail. I also tried using the grub-customizer
( a very nice graphical interface to update grub). You can find it at:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/43471/how-to-configure-the-linux-grub2-boot-menu-the-easy-way/.
No luck. It continues to boot the first OS on the list if no other entry is
selected, regardless of what is in /etc/default/grub.

[Bug 782972] Re: [mir] seed

2011-05-17 Thread Kees Cook
Yikes, javascript hooked to the desktop. :) There's nothing immediately
wrong with the code, but I have to wonder about how security boundaries
are going to be enforced, if JS from the browser ever touches JS for the
desktop. I would prefer to see documentation similar to the same
origin policies in browsers for how JS will be used in the Desktop
before this package goes into main.

[Bug 765084] Re: gmusicbrowser unity integration broken

2011-05-17 Thread Michael Villet
Another gmusicbrowser/Unity issue (gmusicbrowser 1.1.7, Ubuntu 11.04
with Unity desktop). If the dock is hidden (e.g. if gmusicbrowser window
is maximized, or near the left hand side of the screen), clicking and
dragging a song on the playlist causes the dock to become visible,
possibly covering up useful information (this particularly interferes
with use in layouts with the playlist on the left hand side of the
window, such as the Lists, Library and Context layot).

[Bug 757991] Re: java applications a double icon appears

2011-05-17 Thread Reinis Ivanovs
This problem applies to NetBeans 7.0 as well. xprop shows these
properties for the NetBeans window:

WM_CLASS(STRING) = sun-awt-X11-XFramePeer, java-lang-Thread

However, using StartupWMClass=sun-awt-X11-XFramePeer or StartupWMClass
=java-lang-Thread in a .desktop file does not help the problem.

[Bug 727459] Re: TSC is not reliable under Xen on some Intel CPUs

2011-05-17 Thread Stefan Bader
** Description changed:

+ SRU Justification
+
+ Impact: When applying the Xen patchset one endif seems to have gone to

+
+ Fix: Move endif so the whole code segment is covered.

+ Incorrect CPU time but likely also causing the unexplainable process

Why not just change the comment?

I kept getting mail with a similar error (different file), so I did

sudo vim /etc/php5/cli/conf.d/ps.ini
and changed the
# comment
to
/** comment **/
and all seems good.

[Bug 139733] Re: window frames missing when compiz is enabled

2011-05-17 Thread Max Bruckner
I experienced the same problem on natty in the Ubuntu Classic mode. I
installed the CompizConfig Settings Manager and enabled the Cube
rotation and Window Magnifying effects. Without compiz in Ubuntu Classic
without visual effects mode, the window frames are still there. The
normal Ubuntu mode with Unity works without problems, but I can't even
move windows with the keyboard in classic mode with visual effects.

[Bug 784168] [NEW] Kernel 2.6.38 doesn't boot showing either a black screen or junk

2011-05-17 Thread Luca Carlon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

This has happened immediately after I upgraded to Ubuntu 11.04. Kernel 2.6.38
is not booting and shows junk on the screen.
I tried a USB pendrive (USB pendrive works with Ubuntu 10.10) and I get a black
screen.

After grub has disappeared the system starts booting, and after some seconds I
get a screen screwed up. Cannot switch to virtual terminals and cannot connect
via ssh.
With the USB pendrive more or less the same happens. After I click start,
nothing else appears on the screen and the boot procedure stops.

The only way I found to get both systems start is to add nomodeset parameter.
With this the system starts.
The same system starts with kernel 2.6.35 without the nomodeset parameter.
Anyway, since I upgraded to Ubuntu 11.04, I'm experiencing some sudden logouts
and frequent complete screen freeze when in dual screen.

The Ubuntu kernel team suggested to try kernel 2.6.39-020639rc7-generic.
This is working correctly it seems.

[Bug 749811] Re: [r300] Screensaver will not complete screensaver to sleep mode, PC freezes and must be hard rebooted

2011-05-17 Thread Brett
@Tormod:

I tried your suggestion with xset. No dice. The problem is that I
can't enter that command within the session where the screen locks, I
have to change to a session other than TTY7 (where the X server is
running) in order to have interaction with the display. That means when
I type the command string you suggested, I get a message about how xset
can't interact with the display .

I've also discovered that setting the screensaver to not turn on when
idle or to not lock the desktop when the screensaver is active does not
help. The screen locks after the screen blanks, though I have not
pinned down exactly how long it takes to make the display freeze.

[Bug 723871] Re: qemu-kvm-0.14.0 Aborts with -vga qxl

2011-05-17 Thread Boris Derzhavets
Also in meantime git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/virt/kvm/qemu-kvm.git
contains commits:-

commit 196a778428989217b82de042725dc8eb29c8f8d8
Author: Gerd Hoffmann kra...@redhat.com
Date: Wed Apr 27 16:06:10 2011 +0200

spice: drop obsolete iothread locking

We don't use qemu internals from spice server context any more.
Thus we don't also need to grab the iothread mutex from spice
server context. And we don't have to temporarely release the
lock to avoid deadlocks. Drop all the calls.

Signed-off-by: Gerd Hoffmann kra...@redhat.com

commit 075360945860ad9bdd491921954b383bf762b0e5
Author: Gerd Hoffmann kra...@redhat.com
Date: Wed Apr 27 15:50:32 2011 +0200

spice: don't call displaystate callbacks from spice server context.

This patch moves the displaystate callback calls for setting the cursor
and the mouse pointer from spice server to qemu (iothread) context.
This allows us to simplify locking.

commit e0c64d08d11736dcea7c5a6373e3e7f62db51d9e
Author: Gerd Hoffmann kra...@redhat.com
Date: Wed Apr 27 15:21:51 2011 +0200

spice: don't create updates in spice server context.

This patch moves the creation of spice screen updates from the spice
server context to qemu iothread context (display refresh timer to be
exact). This way we avoid accessing qemu internals (display surface)
from spice thread context which in turn allows us to simplify locking.

commit 14da8345b2f7c21bab20fd12b755a61d6277f171
Author: Jes Sorensen jes.soren...@redhat.com
Date: Tue Feb 1 15:53:23 2011 +0100

Make spice dummy functions inline to fix calls not checking return values

qemu_spice_set_passwd() and qemu_spice_set_pw_expire() dummy functions
needs to be inline, in order to handle the case where they are called
without checking the return value.

So , git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/virt/kvm/qemu-kvm.git
creates a directory allows to build tar ball for debian qemu-kvm packages ,
which work with no QXL patching at all.

[Bug 555729] Re: package blcr-dkms does not support 2.6.33 or more recent kernels

2011-05-17 Thread reader4
Same problem with my system when trying to upgrade Ubuntu 10.04 to
10.10. In my case, 'aptitude why blcr-dkms' returned that there was not
reason to have blcr-dkms. To be sure, I ran 'sudo apt-get purge blcr-
dkms' before attempting the upgrade without luck. Using the workaround
suggested by Charles Opondo got me past that roadblock, however.

[Bug 784174] [NEW] kpackage fails on maverick (10.10) to natty (11.04) upgrade

2011-05-17 Thread JW
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kpackagekit

I have a VM that I am upgrading from Jaunty (yes... I know) to Natty. J
to K, K to L, and L to M went perfectly fine (other than having to go
one-at-a-time). However, when I attempt to upgrade to Natty through
KPackage kit it fails. I can start it, check for updates, and click the
link to upgrade. After getting a warning about this being a long
process a progress bar zips by quickly and then I receive an error:

Sorry - KPackageKit
Distribution upgrade process exited with code 1.

Not very helpful there. I have checked /var/log and nothing in there looks
like it is talking about this issue. A little help?

[Bug 771803] Re: bzr crashed with TypeError in check : check takes exactly 1 argument 2 given

2011-05-17 Thread Jannik Grube
Hi Martin,

thanks for your reply and for reopening the bug report. At the time of
the bug report, I was using 'bzr check' to check the consistency of a
shared repository pior to moving it as part of a change of workflow
model to a centralised model.

By now I successfully moved the repo, but here's the output of the command you
suggested, executed in the top level dir of the repo:
-- 8-
xx@xx:~$ bzr info -v
Shared repository with trees (format: 2a)
Location:
  shared repository: .

Format:
   control: Meta directory format 1
repository: Repository format 2a - rich roots, group compression and chk
inventories

Create working tree for new branches inside the repository.

Repository:
   138 revisions
-- 8-

'bzr check' however does not give me any errors any more. I'm sorry I
can't provide more information at this time, but I just could not keep
the old structure intact.

Thanks again
Jannik
