[Bug 886953] Re: smbstatus does not reliably detect that a samba connection is in use.

2011-11-12 Thread Bob Harvey
Now tested with XP and Suse Linux.
The suggested modification does what I require, although I do get spurious
error messages in Linux after a forced disconnect, but they can safely be
ignored.

Yes, same solution on F16. I just had to rebuild
libvirt-0.9.7-1.fc14.src.rpm and get libvirt-0.9.7-1.fc16.src.rpm
to upgrade libvirt up to 0.9.7. Afterwards everything goes fine.

  4) What happens instead is it is missing.

I installed 'rhino', with no effect.

For javascript to work in LibreOffice it appears I need the file
  ScriptProviderForJavaScript.jar

  Maverick had this file:

  /usr/lib/openoffice/basis3.2/program/classes/ScriptProviderForJavaScript.jar

  in openoffice.org-java-common
  (http://packages.ubuntu.com/maverick/all/openoffice.org-java-
  common/filelist)

But the file is missing from 11.10:
  http://packages.ubuntu.com/oneiric/all/libreoffice-java-common/filelist

By taking the files found in Arch Linux:

  http://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/libreoffice-extension-
  scripting-javascript/

  and putting them under /usr/lib/libreoffice/share/extensions/script-
provider-for-javascript on 11.10, I can solve the problem.

But clearly this should not be necessary.

The files should be (but do not appear to be) provided by some package
  in 11.10.

[Bug 888415] Re: Speakers do not mute when headphone jack is in use. Multimedia keys unmute speakers.

2011-11-12 Thread semitones
Hi, thanks for your quick responses. I should be able to boot from an
oneiric LiveUSB monday and test it out. Meanwhile I can try the new ALSA
drivers.

Since it is an intermittent problem, the only way I can think of testing
it would be to use it normally for a week or so and see if I notice the
problem happening or not. I may just continue to use the ALSA drivers if
they keep working and report back in a month or so if there are no
problems. I'll get back to you about Oneiric much sooner.

Slightly unrelated note: I decided not to upgrade past Maverick because
11.04 ran much hotter and decreased my battery life significantly, and
on 11.10, my touchpad sidescroll isn't detected properly (ALPS pointing
device, bug here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/747092). Both
problems which make my laptop more or less unusable, so I've stuck with
maverick :)

[Bug 889405] [NEW] Readding repo using apt-add-repository can cause invalid repo line

2011-11-12 Thread Thomas Mashos
Public bug reported:

Removing and readding a PPA can cause invalid repository lines. This
doesn't seem to be the case with all repositories, but I've reproduced
it consistently with the below steps.

Steps to reproduce.
1) apt-add-repository ppa:mythbuntu/0.25
2) apt-add-repository --remove ppa:mythbuntu/0.25
3) apt-add-repository ppa:mythbuntu/0.25

Expected result: repository .list file contains
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/0.25/ubuntu oneiric main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/0.25/ubuntu oneiric main

Actual result: repository .list file contains
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/0.25/ubuntu oneiric main
src http://ppa.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/0.25/ubuntu oneiric main

This causes apt to fail with an invalid line error.

[Bug 889406] [NEW] apt-add-repository --remove does not remove deb-src line

2011-11-12 Thread Thomas Mashos
Public bug reported:

When using apt-add-repository --remove, it does not remove the deb-src
line, only the deb line. I would expect it to remove both deb and deb-
src as when running apt-add-repository it adds both of the lines, so
--remove should remove both lines.

Steps to reproduce.
1) apt-add-repository ppa:mythbuntu/0.25
2) apt-add-repository --remove ppa:mythbuntu/0.25

Expected result: repository .list file contains nothing (or file is
completely removed)

I have a Lenovo 3000 N200. I upgraded from 11.04 to 11.10. I followed the
instructions in #24 an the note in #52 and it worked perfectly for me. The
X-ORG is fine, the 'restart to finish updates' message is gone and the 'Waiting
for network configuration' is gone as well.
Thanks.
In conclusion it doesn't matter that this wasn't a stable version and i had a
huge bug. I guess that you couldn't have known. The good thing is that you
provided simple instructions for fixing the problem and they work.
Thanks lot.

[Bug 173343] Re: Moving files to trash results in a permanent delete

2011-11-12 Thread Joachim Jungner
New bug reporter of old bug.

Selecting 'Move to Trash' removes the file completely, and it is not in
the trash can. The removed file is also flagged as 'Missing' by
Rhythmbox. (That is also a bit strange.)

It is reproducible both from playlist view and 'Music' view.

Basically two problems:
1. The user interface itself: It is far too easy to accidentally click 'Move to
Trash', when you really just want to remove it from the playlist. This is in
part exacerbated by the fact that there is no (visible) keyboard shortcut for
doing the safe thing, so you _have_ to use the menu with the closely placed
menu items.

2. Move to trash is apparently affected by a bug where the file is
removed permanently, or at least moved to an unknown location (not
trash).

Will create a new user and see if I can reproduce the problem again.

I thot I was facing this too, but on 11.10. Turns out is was just

I found that stopping network-manager

allow shutdown/restart. Whether that is due to the wrong ethernet driver
being used (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/779040)
or not I don't know yet.

[Bug 779040] Re: System hangs (solid) early during shutdown

2011-11-12 Thread colin
I have the same driver and hardware and I've also had trouble with shutdown.
As a workaround for me, running sudo service network-manager stop before
shutdown makes it possible.

Not sure if the fix proposed here (and http://www.rvdavid.net/how-to-
get-gigabit-speeds-from-rtl81118168b-pci-express-gigabit-ethernet-
controller-on-ubuntu-linux/) is appropriate because I have kernel 3.0 on
my updated 11.10.

I guess I cannot use the driver available from Realtek for kernel 2.4,
2.6 on 3.0 right?

Whenever i hit Ctrl+F2, the tun dialog opens up in the background of the

should take precedence over the other open applications. Please look
into this. I tried this in virtualbox and separate 11.10 lubuntu clean

Um, is this going to be pushed out to users using the regular, stable

[Bug 173343] Re: Moving files to trash results in a permanent delete

2011-11-12 Thread Joachim Jungner
Created a 'rhythmboxtestuser' and copied a single folder of music (10
songs) to that user.

When using the 'Move to trash' function, the music file is correctly
placed in the trash can. (The file is still added to the 'missing files'
list, which is a bit strange, but maybe it is so by design.)

So. The problem appears to be user-specific.

I didn't change any properties for the test user, so it uses the brand
new (optional in 11.04, mandatory in 11.10) user interface, whereas my
'real' user has reverted to the old Gnome UI. I don't know if that's
relevant or not.

[Bug 863834] Re: [regression] Suspend on lid close broken on Oneiric

2011-11-12 Thread Endri Hysenaj
Same problem. I remember it was working on 11.10 up to a certain update
but now it is not working anymore. The suspend operation by itself is
working perfectly, just it does not react to the close the lid action. I
should note that the laptop senses the close the lid operation but does
actually nothing on it. I have tried setting the values manually also,
no effect.

[Bug 823087] Re: QApt worker crashed or disappeared when using muon package manager to check for updates

2011-11-12 Thread Tommy_CZ
It is not fixed. Now, on 2 my computers and 2 other pcs of my friends,
the Muon-Updater freezed, leaving OS in the bad condition.

In a better case, dpkg --configure-a or something like that has to be
done. (We had to put it manualy into konsole, I think BUTTON in the
dialogue window for IT would be very useful - like You have corrupted
database of packages, probably because of interrupting updating process,
do not worry, you can easily repair it by clicking Repair Button or
Cancel if you want to do it later.

In a worse case, some of them weren't able to log into KDE anymore.

[Bug 889422] [NEW] Libreoffice calc FILEOPEN very slow, it takes about 15 minutes

2011-11-12 Thread Marc
Public bug reported:

I first asked around in the ubuntu newsgroups, and people there asked me to file
this bug in Bugzilla/Libreoffice and also in launchpad to make sure it is not a
Kubuntu packaging issue.
Further info and strace log files can be found on bugzilla
Bug 42684 - FILEOPEN very slow, network/dns related, it takes about 15 minutes
I am running Kubuntu 11.10 and the version of LO is
LibreOffice 3.4.3 OOO340m1 (Build:302)

The problem is that LO wants to resolve url's + their security certificates
present in the sheet
I guess some urls cannot be resolved, and after about 15 minutes, LO gives up
and finally opens the document.
I think the problem first appeared after an upgrade (not shure if it appeared
after installing Kubuntu 11.10 or before)
It was not there in 11.04 for some time, but perhaps it appeared later on in
11.04 after adding the backport ppa, I don't
remember anymore.
I dont' have this problem when I open the same file on my daughters laptop
(WIN7-Openoffice 3.1)
Let me know if you need further info.

Configuring an 802.3ad bond doesn't appear to work correctly. The following
entry in /etc/network/interfaces should configure an 802.3ad bond between
interfaces eth2 and eth3:
#auto bond0
iface bond0 inet static
  address 10.191.62.2
  netmask 255.255.255.0
  broadcast 10.191.62.255
  bond-slaves eth2 eth3
  bond-primary eth2 eth3
  bond-mode 802.3ad
  bond-lacp_rate fast
  bond-miimon 100

However, after booting the system, we have:

I can ping 10.191.62.2 after making the above changes. So, either I am
configuring /etc/network/interfaces incorrectly or ifupdown/ifenslave is
doing the wrong thing.

Note also the number of dropped packages on bond0. Why should I see any
dropped packages on the bond0 interface?

[Bug 863834] Re: [regression] Suspend on lid close broken on Oneiric

2011-11-12 Thread Endri Hysenaj
Guys, i don't know much and i maybe very wrong, but i think i managed to
partially solve it. If you open /etc/acpi/lid.sh, which is the script
being called when the lid is closed, has nowhere pm-suspend command
which actually suspends the computer. I added the line pm-suspend after
all the ifs are closed and it suspends, but on wake up it does not ask
for password. This leads me to think that this is not a good solution,
however maybe it is a clue.

[Bug 889428] [NEW] unmounting pendrive doesn't work on first try

2011-11-12 Thread John W. Klemen-Geiger
Public bug reported:

I' running Oneiric on a Dell D620. Further I use a 4GB and a 8DB Intenso
pendrive. When I want to unmount them with a right click on the
launchpad-button, the first time the window pops up, but doesn react to
further clicks. If I change to a second desktop and repeat the click,
everything is fine.

[Bug 889427] [NEW] radeon takes over 100 seconds to suspend to memory

2011-11-12 Thread jcdutton
Public bug reported:

Please see below an example of it taking 113 seconds to suspend to RAM/memory
If I switch to console (CTRL-ALT-F1) and stop lightdm so that X is stopped,
suspend happens immediately.
So, I have tracked this down to a problem with the radeon driver.

Finally I got around to upload it to revu.

The lintian error is due to building the gemrb package for ppa with a

[Bug 887993] Re: desktop sluggish after resume from suspend

2011-11-12 Thread Mario
Also affect me, with 11.10 [64 bits] and radeon 5770.

This is a bug in Unity, because it does not happen in Gnome Shell.

How to play:

Go to Unity Dash, show all applications, move icons up and down with the
scroll bar, suspend and resume, perform the same operation and notice
that is very slow.
