[Bug 915895] Re: Mozvoikko disabled by default for users

2012-01-19 Thread Chris Coulson
Migrating extensions to be profile-managed is something that we're only
doing in Lucid and Maverick so that we don't have to keep a dozen or so
extensions updated for the next year. In any case, those are also
disabled by default and trigger the about:newaddon tab after installing
them. I'd prefer for this to not be a long term thing, as the addon
migrator code is quite sensitive to behavioural changes in the addon
manager, making it difficult to support for 5 years (but it's manageable
with the 1 year of support left for Lucid)

The issue is that Firefox considers anything that isn't installed via
its addon manager as third party (see blog.mozilla.com/addons/2011/08/11
/strengthening-user-control-of-add-ons/).

We do make an exception though for the addons that are bundled on the CD
though.

Personally, I would prefer it if mozvoikko was hosted on
addons.mozilla.org now so that users could install it from there rather
than the archive. When we dropped all of the Firefox extensions from the
archive, we made an exception for mozvoikko because it contained a
binary component. This isn't the case anymore though (it's all written
in JS), so there doesn't seem to be any real reason to make an exception
for it now (other than the fact that the developers haven't submitted it
to addons.mozilla.org).

[Bug 830949] Re: [Intel N10 Graphics] Need Compiz' Copy to Texture plugin so can display on multi-head layouts bigger than the max GL texture size

2012-01-19 Thread David Barth
The code for this plugin had not been thoroughly tested and enabling it
without enough user feedback was considered risky. There were a lot of
compiz issues at the time. This one had a lower priority unfortunately.

Sam confirms btw that there is no pre-requisite for this plugin. The
easiest solution to validate it before the change is committed is for
user of N10 systems to activate and confirm that the plugin does allow
them to drive a multi-head setup.

2012-01-19 Thread Lucazade
Hi all!
Thanks for the feedback and work on this bug. I don't know why I still have
this long delay also with the updated ppa from Albert.
It is a clean installation of Oneiric in a virtualmachine so it should be not
dependant on hw or 3rd party apps.

I'm confident this bug will be solved by your work for the next unity2d
release. Let me know if I can do more tests.

[Bug 878513] Re: Unity Window Placement Hotkeys

2012-01-19 Thread Dražen Lučanin
Yes, it's a shame issue #2 appeared, because it was such a great idea to
have these quickly accessable resizing options. Hope it gets fixed soon.

It would be great to see it integrated even more into the desktop
environment - for example enabling it through the GUI by bumping the
edge of the screen several consequent times with a same window.

[Bug 918580] Re: System Settings 'User Interface' name is bad in 12.04

2012-01-19 Thread feasty
I see the comment but there doesn't appear to be any reason for it! I
think they're just not thinking of the non technical user. If my
girlfriend, her parents or my dad (all Ubuntu users but far from
technical) saw the term User Interface they wouldn't know what it was
and they certainly wouldn't click on it because it has the term
'Interface' in, which sounds technical and low level. They are quite
happy to click on a button that is labelled Appearence though as it
has more meaning to them. It's this sort of terminology that just puts
people off Linux and keeps its reputation as a techies playground. The
designrs should remember that people who aren't technical, especially
those who are older, are afraid that what ever they do on a computer is
going to break it and unfriendly names like that is just going to
intimidate more.

[Bug 918627] [NEW] Conversion fails with parenthesis in the path

2012-01-19 Thread Mario
Public bug reported:

The command alien --to-rpm some_application.deb fails when the path
from where it is called contains a parenthesis.

I only tried with the conversion from .deb to .rpm. If I try to convert
it from an other location for example /home/proyecto/Escritorio/rpm it
works correctly.

I also tried to execute the script /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.6tv2Hz adding
quotation marks around the failing path and it works fine so it could be
a solution, generating the script with quotation marks around the paths.

[Bug 830949] Re: [Intel N10 Graphics] Need Compiz' Copy to Texture plugin so can display on multi-head layouts bigger than the max GL texture size

2012-01-19 Thread David Barth
To verify that the plugin works:
1. Call 'ccsm' on the command line to load the configuration tool, look for
'texture' and you should see the 'Copy to texture' plugin
2. Enable the plugin
3. Restart your session

Now, to verify that multi-head works you will need to use the 'xrandr'
command as mentioned by Chris in comment #13

[Bug 830949] Re: [Intel N10 Graphics] Need Compiz' Copy to Texture plugin so can display on multi-head layouts bigger than the max GL texture size

2012-01-19 Thread Paul Sladen
re Ara, David and others; if I understand the situation:

  1. Hardware has a max texture target of 2048x2048.
  2. 1024 wide (internal) + 1280 wide (external) 2048; so Unity 3D fails,
Unity 2D works; error message shown
  3. 600 high (internal) + 1024 high (external) = 2048; so Unity 3D works,
Unity 2D works. Nothing shown
  4. On *some* N10 systems, somehow the machine ends up setting/enabling the
impossible (2) situation, without warning

Two questions:

  a. Is the summary above correct?
  b. If so, how to cause (4) reliably?

[Bug 917047] Re: [5.0, Dash] Filter results pane is only partially visible

2012-01-19 Thread George Karavasilev
Open System Settings than click on Language Support. Next up click on
Install/Remove languages ... and install Russian.
After you've done that reboot your system, again navigate to language support
and apply Russian as system-wide language.
Than reboot again and you're done.
I believe that's it, through I'm not sure, I haven't used anything but English
(UK) for god knows how long time ...

[Bug 495707] Re: Please upgrade to ulogd2 (ulogd1 has no support for IPv6 and NFLOG)

2012-01-19 Thread Gioele Barabucci
The latest messages on the bug report on Debian (http://bugs.debian.org
/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=502305#101) show that most of the problems
with the package creation are gone. What is left is to decide an upgrade
path from ulog1, maybe the Ubuntu devs can coordinate with Debian to
solve that.

It would be nice to have this package in Ubuntu in time for the 12.04
LTS. An LTS without a working firewall logging system for IPv6?

Seems reasonable given that this isn't in Debian - it's one of the ones
we synced from debian-multimedia.org. No reverse dependencies.

However, this doesn't need to be assigned to anyone - the way the
archive admin queue works is that it's sufficient to just subscribe
ubuntu-archive to bugs for them to appear in our list.

[Bug 733941] Re: cannot get xvidcap through synaptic

This isn't a problem with the package - it can't be, as apt hasn't even
got as far as fetching the package. It looks like a problem with your
network setup or your web proxy.

[Bug 918637] [NEW] We need a job type for semi-automated tests

2012-01-19 Thread Ara Pulido
Public bug reported:

Some of our tests are automated, except that they require a manual set
up.

For example, the USB tests state:

1. Insert device
2. Click 'Test'
3. Verify that 'Yes' was selected

The 3rd step should be fully automated, and the user shouldn't be
verifying anything after the click.

The description of the test should warn about it.

[Bug 918636] [NEW] No way to select session when loggind in using 'Other'

2012-01-19 Thread Christoph Egger
Public bug reported:

If my account is listed in lightdm screen and I use that option,
selecting the session type (e.g. xmonad) wworks as expected. If logging
in as 'Other' - type username - type password and I select session
type when entering the username, it's back to default once I get to the
password screen. Selecting here a non-system-default session will not
take any effect.

So for correct functioning
a) the user selection made when entering the username needs to be preserved (or
the session type selection disabled there)
b) the session selected in the password entering stage needs to actually take
effect
c) If I use the 'entering username' way of login, my last selection should be
preserved

[Bug 802626] Re: vgchange may deadlock in initramfs when VG present that's not used for rootfs

2012-01-19 Thread Sergio Callegari
As mentioned, the long delay at boot is definitely experienced by users
including me that have their root fs on LVM. The --no-udevsync
workaround fixes the issue that apparently started with the update to
3.00-14. Personally, I suspect that some problem was present even
before 3.00-14 but occurring so rarely that one was not noticing it
(e.g. 1 slow boot every 100). With 3.00-14 the hang at boot became
sistematic.

As the original reporter of Bug #902491, I really hope that it can get
some attention (e.g., currently this bug has a 'high' importance and
that one a 'medium' one and most important this thread seems to host a
technical discussion). Note that all those on 902491 see that the --no-
udevsync workaround fixes the issue. Also note that following a
(possibly wrong) hint on my side 902491 was closed as a duplicate of the
current bug.

For the time being, following the comment by Steve I am re-opeining
902491 by removing the duplicate status. Please let me know if it is
more appropriate to leave 902491 closed and open a new vgchange may
deadlock in initramfs when VG present that's used for rootfs

[Bug 902491] Re: Severe regression with latest kernel update: 3.0.0-14.23 takes an unreasonable amount of time to boot due to udev

2012-01-19 Thread Sergio Callegari
Reopened the bug by removing the duplicate status, following the comment
on bug 802626:

James,

I don't believe that's true. If the rootfs is in the same VG, there
should be no possibility of udev being stopped in the initramfs prior to
the dependent event making its way through the system, because without
those events the rootfs can't be mounted at all. And certainly, root-on-
LVM has been 100% reliable for me here. I think you should file a
separate bug for the issue you're seeing.
