[Bug 915895] Re: Mozvoikko disabled by default for users
Migrating extensions to be profile-managed is something that we're only doing in Lucid and Maverick so that we don't have to keep a dozen or so extensions updated for the next year. In any case, those are also disabled by default and trigger the about:newaddon tab after installing them. I'd prefer for this to not be a long term thing, as the addon migrator code is quite sensitive to behavioural changes in the addon manager, making it difficult to support for 5 years (but it's manageable with the 1 year of support left for Lucid) The issue is that Firefox considers anything that isn't installed via its addon manager as third party (see blog.mozilla.com/addons/2011/08/11 /strengthening-user-control-of-add-ons/). We do make an exception though for the addons that are bundled on the CD though. Personally, I would prefer it if mozvoikko was hosted on addons.mozilla.org now so that users could install it from there rather than the archive. When we dropped all of the Firefox extensions from the archive, we made an exception for mozvoikko because it contained a binary component. This isn't the case anymore though (it's all written in JS), so there doesn't seem to be any real reason to make an exception for it now (other than the fact that the developers haven't submitted it to addons.mozilla.org). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/915895 Title: Mozvoikko disabled by default for users To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mozvoikko/+bug/915895/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 918580] Re: System Settings 'User Interface' name is bad in 12.04
I see the comment but there doesn't appear to be any reason for it! I think they're just not thinking of the non technical user. If my girlfriend, her parents or my dad (all Ubuntu users but far from technical) saw the term User Interface they wouldn't know what it was and they certainly wouldn't click on it because it has the term 'Interface' in, which sounds technical and low level. They are quite happy to click on a button that is labelled Appearence though as it has more meaning to them. It's this sort of terminology that just puts people off Linux and keeps its reputation as a techies playground. The designrs should remember that people who aren't technical, especially those who are older, are afraid that what ever they do on a computer is going to break it and unfriendly names like that is just going to intimidate more. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/918580 Title: System Settings 'User Interface' name is bad in 12.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/918580/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

re Ara, David and others; if I understand the situation: 1. [Bug 802626] Re: vgchange may deadlock in initramfs when VG present that's not used for rootfs
As mentioned, the long delay at boot is definitely experienced by users including me that have their root fs on LVM. The --no-udevsync workaround fixes the issue that apparently started with the update to 3.00-14. Personally, I suspect that some problem was present even before 3.00-14 but occurring so rarely that one was not noticing it (e.g. 1 slow boot every 100). With 3.00-14 the hang at boot became sistematic. As the original reporter of Bug #902491, I really hope that it can get some attention (e.g., currently this bug has a 'high' importance and that one a 'medium' one and most important this thread seems to host a technical discussion). Note that all those on 902491 see that the --no- udevsync workaround fixes the issue. Also note that following a (possibly wrong) hint on my side 902491 was closed as a duplicate of the current bug. For the time being, following the comment by Steve I am re-opeining 902491 by removing the duplicate status. Please let me know if it is more appropriate to leave 902491 closed and open a new vgchange may deadlock in initramfs when VG present that's used for rootfs -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/802626 Title: vgchange may deadlock in initramfs when VG present that's not used for rootfs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lvm2/+bug/802626/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 902491] Re: Severe regression with latest kernel update: 3.0.0-14.23 takes an unreasonable amount of time to boot due to udev
Reopened the bug by removing the duplicate status, following the comment on bug 802626: James, I don't believe that's true. If the rootfs is in the same VG, there should be no possibility of udev being stopped in the initramfs prior to the dependent event making its way through the system, because without those events the rootfs can't be mounted at all. And certainly, root-on- LVM has been 100% reliable for me here. I think you should file a separate bug for the issue you're seeing. ** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 802626 vgchange may deadlock in initramfs when VG present that's not used for rootfs -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/902491 Title: Severe regression with latest kernel update: 3.0.0-14.23 takes an unreasonable amount of time to boot due to udev To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/902491/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
