[Bug 919298] [NEW] lightdm crashes/loops if guest disabled and no initial user
Public bug reported: I'm configuring a preseeded automated installation of Ubuntu 12.04. Because in its final state the system will get all its users from the local Active Directory domain I do not have an initial user created, so in my preseed configuration file I have the line: d-i passwd/make-user boolean false My organisation's policies prohibit a guest account, so a preseed/late_command edits /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf to include the line: allow-guest=false With this arrangement, when lightdm starts at boot time, it starts an X server and displays a black screen with the mouse pointer in. This screen disappears almost immediately. This is repeated 59 times, making switching to another virtual console difficult. lightdm should behave more sensibly when a local user is not available. ** Affects: lightdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/919298 Title: lightdm crashes/loops if guest disabled and no initial user To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/919298/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share
Hi :) The new Gnome has gone weird too. It's easier to influence the direction that Unity takes whereas Gnome is firmly taking it's own path regardless of what distros want. Distros that are sticking with Gnome tend to avoid Gnome 3 or tweak it back to look like Gnome 2 (ie Mint). Hopefully Unity will start to look more familiar as it becomes more friendly for power-users. [Bug 912461] Re: Replace spread mode for Window previews
Added four new mock-ups: * Two window previews vertically aligned * Two window previews horizontally aligned * Three window previews vertically aligned * Three window previews horizontally aligned Efficiency: Vertically aligned window previews are more efficient: the distance to travel from the application icon to one of the window previews is shorter. Usability testing: Some usability testing needs to be done to discover what the user likes the most: vertically or horizontally aligned window previews. Hope you guys/girls like it! ** Summary changed: - Replace spread mode for Window previews + Replace spread mode for window previews ** Description changed: Feature request: - Replace the spread mode for Window previews. + Replace the spread mode for window previews. The spread mode is: Annoying: because of the zoom-out and zoom-in animation. Intrusive: because the whole screen changes. - Tedious and Inefficient: Because it takes (far!) too much time to switch between windows. + Tedious and inefficient: Because it takes (f too much time to switch between windows. Because switching between open windows of the same application is something you have to do often, it's very important that this works as efficient as possible. I propose the following solution: Instead of showing the spread mode, show all the open windows of the same application as window previews near the application icon in the panel. This would only need to work when more than one window of an application is open. Imagine two or more windows previews horizontally of vertically aligned at the right side of the application icon. When you want to switch between two or more windows of the same application you simply go the the application icon and the window previews are shown. You than just select the window you want and off you go! Simple! Window previews are: Not annoying : because there are no animations. Not intrusive: the whole screen doesn't need to change. Efficient: Because the animation is not necessary time is saved. [Bug 915158] Re: Process is not closing
You can see the same problem with any shell with a command like (sleep 3 exec /bin/sleep 6) because most versions of /bin/sleep do not clean up zombies (here, a zombie from an inherited child process). Dash does not consider the existence of a background process a reason to fork for an external command (that needs to be execve()'ed). Therefore you may see zombies if you start some background jobs and the final command is external and does not clean up zombies it did not start itself. As a workaround you can add a builtin at the end, for example (sleep 3 sleep 6; exit $?) With bash, this does not happen because bash appears to fork always for an external command unless it is the only thing to be run in the process at all. However, this policy results in more process creations than necessary and therefore poorer performance. POSIX does not appear to say much about whether the shell should allow commands to inherit child processes in this manner. However, a shell is definitely not required to fork as much as bash does. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/915158 Title: Process is not closing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dash/+bug/915158/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 917386] Re: Unity panel doesn't fit with onboard hide button
Thanks for the bug report, David. I believe I've made some progress, though Unity/gnome-shell/GTK3 are still moving targets. We may have to revisit this in the future. Now, if floating icon, status icon and force-to-top mode are disabled, Onboard should properly show up in the launcher and can be restored from there. This can't be done with force-to-top mode enabled, so now in this case the floating icon will show up as the last option to unhide onboard. ** Changed in: onboard Status: Confirmed = Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/917386 Title: Unity panel doesn't fit with onboard hide button To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/onboard/+bug/917386/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 907201] Re: Update Manager shows updates that can't be selected
No, running dist-upgrade doesn't solve the problem. The output from dist-upgrade was: The following packages have been kept back: libboost-date-time-dev libboost-dev libboost-iostreams-dev libboost-regex-dev plus there were a few packages that _were_ installed or upgraded. I lost the output from dist-upgrade, but if I run it again it shows the part mentioned above, plus 0 upgraded / 0 installed etc. The 4 packages that were kept back actually are the ones that show up unchecked and uncheckable in Update Manager. I'm not sure whether there were more of them before I ran dist-upgrade. ** Changed in: update-manager (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/907201 Title: Update Manager shows updates that can't be selected To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/907201/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
