[Bug 1020834] [NEW] instance-state: unknown

2012-07-04 Thread René Schultz Madsen
Public bug reported:

After deploy of a maas setup, the different maas managed servers report:
instance-state: unknown

Why is that?

It's possible to juju ssh, ping the machine, ping the maas server from
the instances, do dns lookup of the maas server from the instances. It's
possible to do dns lookup the different instances from the maas server.

The maas server is running:

Linux orc 2.6.38-15-server #60-Ubuntu SMP Tue May 22 11:45:41 UTC 2012 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Release:12.04

The bootstrap instance is running:

Linux bootstrap 3.2.0-25-generic #40-Ubuntu SMP Wed May 23 20:30:51 UTC 2012
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Release:12.04

If nothing is wrong, then I would suggest that it tells me eg.
instances-state: running or something like that...

juju -v status gives me:

2012-07-04 08:33:19,328 DEBUG Initializing juju status runtime

@Stéphane: network-manager should also include a file in dnsmasq.d/ with
bind-interfaces. Can we track that need in bug #959037 and close this

[Bug 1020718] Re: package tomcat6 6.0.35-1ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2012-07-04 Thread James Page
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug in Ubuntu.

It looks like you have a previous install of tomcat6 which you removed
rather than purged and then remove the configuration files manually.

Please try purging tomcat6 and re-installing; this should resolve your
issue.

Thanks.

Ubuntu-specific patches have been incorporated upstream, so this request
is a sync rather than a merge. Those include emitting upstart events for

[Bug 1018285] Re: Redirects incorrectly set Location header in response when Host header is set in request

2012-07-04 Thread Michael Williamson
I tried adding the line UseCanonicalPhysicalPort off to both

declaration), but the port is still included in the Location header.
Just to be sure, I also tried UseCanonicalName off, but it didn't make
any difference.

[Bug 1020773] Re: package bacula-director-pgsql 5.2.5-0ubuntu6.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2012-07-04 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

This looks like a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in
Ubuntu, so I'm marking this bug as Invalid.

You can find pointers to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

If you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
and then change the bug status back to New.

Dan,

It sounds like the package manager tried to fix all unconfigured
packages (as it is designed to) and this time you got the prompt for the
password.

[Bug 1015582] Re: package puppetmaster-passenger 2.7.11-1ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2012-07-04 Thread Steven Kurylo
I can reproduce this error in Percise. What's happening is that apache
is being restarted a second time to soon. I've included the postinst
script output below.

To test the theory I ran 'invoke-rc.d apache2 restart;invoke-rc.d
apache2 restart' - the second restart failed. If I add a sleep 'invoke-
rc.d apache2 restart; sleep 1; invoke-rc.d apache2 restart' then the
second restart succeeds.

The postinst script could be changed so that it would only ever call
restart once.

Looks like there is already a bug files against apache

[Bug 1018171] Re: apache2 init script report start success too early

2012-07-04 Thread Steven Kurylo
This also causes the puppet init script to fail, at least for me, on precise:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/puppet/+bug/1015582

The script restarts apache twice, and the second time the restart fails
because apache hasn't created it's pid file yet. So the init script
thinks apache isn't running.

On my system, the init script finishes at 11:21:04.823562372 while the
pid file doesn't appear until 11:21:05.180181675. So there is race
condition for a few hundred milliseconds.

Maybe the init script should wait until the pid file is created?

[Bug 988819] Re: [SRU] wrong path to libxml2.so.2 in mod_security - broken by multiarch enabled libraries

2012-07-04 Thread Stefan Fritsch
There are two schools of thought here. Some people prefer linking to the
libraries directly (the saner approach for a Linux distribution) and
some people prefer to load depending libraries with LoadFile (to make it
easier to avoid loading to different versions of the same library in the
same process). Mod_security used to take the second approach. If that
has changed, or the packaging modifies it to link to libxml, then simply
removing the LoadFile line is the logical thing to do.

[Bug 967410] Re: Windows clients cannot connect to shared printers

2012-07-04 Thread Nick_Hill
This bug is somewhat a deal breaker for 12.04 for me. A search on
Google will likely show up an array of deal break bugs for Samba 3.6.x.
I've been hoping for a fix to come over the last few weeks, but on
looking at the upstream release notes, there doesn't seem to be a fix in
the pipeline for this, although the most recent update to samba has
many, many bug and security fixes.

Perhaps Andrew Tridgell is busy fire fighting at the moment with the 3.6
series. I understand substantial sections have been re-written and
obviously not yet mature code.

Perhaps distributions need to do their own code quality control, and
perhaps make choices whether to include the latest versions if too
buggy.

I'd suggest the previous 3.5 series of Samba should be included in 12.04
repositories, and available by default at least until samba 3.6 is more
mature.

I wish I had the time, knowledge and resources to help Andrew Tridgell
in his programming efforts on Samba.

Installed the kernel yesterday morning.

Transferred over 15GB from dev/urandom to the laptop with intel card via
netcat - worked fine.

Loaded up laptop to watch a (1.5gb) movie on XBMC and wifi stopped
again. Pings to any local/remote PC fail. Have to re-connect wifi again.

Loaded same movie in VLC, no problem.

Woke up this morning to surf - after loading up 2 webpages, wifi halts.

Re: [Bug 874619] Re: Dragging windows around is slow/sluggish/laggy when multiple monitors are enabled

2012-07-04 Thread Daudi Amani
It crept in back in February after some random 11.10 update. After that,
it was awful.
I reformated disk, did a fresh (not an update) install of 12.04 .. I'm
using dual monitors twinview now without any problem. But I did the
install with just a single monitor and Unity 2D before trying twinview dual.

[Bug 772445] Re: Dragging image from firefox/chrome to dock causes lagg/freeze

2012-07-04 Thread X
the screen froze for a full minute just now, I can finally find a way to
reproduce it.

1. go to a youtube video page in opera or firefox
2. start dragging a relevent video link from the sidebar

the whole screen will freeze other than the mouse, sound from the video
will still play, for exactly 1 minute.

Your /etc/init.d/cups was from an upstream installation, so apparently
you did something like make install from an upstream tree. I suggest
you do something like

   sudo rm /etc/init.d/cups /etc/rc*/*cups
  apt-get download cups
  sudo dpkg -i --force-confmiss cups_*.deb

to restore the Ubuntu configuration files.

...hmm I was thinking that for GNOME 3 technology they will improve
the toolkit, at least the basic functionality of the window layers ;)
Should be trivial to fix such problem in a windows 32/64 environment
but seems that is impossible with GNU tools ;)
now I'm really curios if EOG developers can fix this long standing
bug, which really make me to stop using EOG.

Could you please let me know the svn link of latest trunk

Inkscape no longer uses SVN - current trunk uses BZR and is hosted here
at launchpad (you can easily find the sources following the links on
inkscape's main page here at launchpad:
https://launchpad.net/inkscape).

If that doesn't help you: here's the page on inkscape.org about getting the
current sources:

[Bug 878516] Re: Restoring a grid-placed window by dragging the title bar downwards does not restore the original window width

2012-07-04 Thread sampo555
The problem is only happening when the window is maximized to the Left
or Right edge. If you place a window to for example top left, or bottom,
the window is resized correctly after it's snapped away from its
position.

Grid leaves the unmaximation to some other component and that doesn't
restore the width which was changed prior to maximation (my guess is
that it saves the window state after grid has changed the width) . Easy
workaround would be to resize (and reposition, the position is also
wrong if unmaximized via window controls) the window in
GridWindow::stateChangeNotify when window is unmaximized. However this
would complicate things even more as there's now two parts of the code
which handle resizing and repositioning (one for normal restore, another
for restore from maximized state).

While debugging this, I found many other bugs (I'll open separate
reports about those). IMO the window handling parts of the grid plugin
should be completely rewritten instead of relying on ugly hacks to fix
these bugs. Working around them would be hard and it will make make the
code even more complicated than needs to be and thus might cause some
other problems in the future...

[Bug 1020833] [NEW] the filename /var/dpkg/info/e2fslibs.list does not match

2012-07-04 Thread William
Public bug reported:

Wile investigating package information i found that i have about 400
packages wich do not have the correct
/var/lib/dpkg/info/packagename.list. (and md5sums file)

Is there a specific reason for not naming the list file as the
packagename as shown by dpkg -l, but instead e.g. creating
/varlib/dpkg/info/e2fslibs:amd64.list?

This does not seem consistent.

I would expect that the packagename should be e2flibs:amd64 wich has a
corresponding /var/lib/dpkg/info/e2fslibs:amd64.list or on i386
e2fslibs:i386 with the corresponding name
/var/lib/dpkg/info/e2fslibs:i386.list

[Bug 1020834] [NEW] instance-state: unknown

2012-07-04 Thread René Schultz Madsen
Public bug reported:

After deploy of a maas setup, the different maas managed servers report:
instance-state: unknown

Why is that?

It's possible to juju ssh, ping the machine, ping the maas server from
the instances, do dns lookup of the maas server from the instances. It's
possible to do dns lookup the different instances from the maas server.

The maas server is running:

Linux orc 2.6.38-15-server #60-Ubuntu SMP Tue May 22 11:45:41 UTC 2012 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Release:12.04

The bootstrap instance is running:

Linux bootstrap 3.2.0-25-generic #40-Ubuntu SMP Wed May 23 20:30:51 UTC 2012
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Release:12.04

If nothing is wrong, then I would suggest that it tells me eg.
instances-state: running or something like that...

juju -v status gives me:

[Bug 1012916] Re: [nouveau] 12.04 Unity 3d hard freezes

2012-07-04 Thread markb
Well I have determined that for me this problem is caused by linux
kernel 3.5.0-3 (pulled in via linux-image-generic) which was installed
on my system via xorg-edgers ppa. I removed this and went back to the
generic precise kernel which is currently 3.2.0-26 and my lockups have
gone. I am still using xorg-edgers ppa, just back-graded that kernel
version.

Hey Thomas, the wireless power management is already turned off, as can
be seen in the IwConfig.txt attached to the bug report and running that
command again does not aleviate the problem.

The laptop is connected to AC power, and I have tried all the solutions
from bug #548992 to no avail.

[Bug 995684] Re: Switching problem between headphone speaker and microphone to laptop built in speakers and front mic

2012-07-04 Thread Costas Cotsaces
Exactly the same problem here. Behavior is determined in boot time:
-if headphones plugged in at boot, sound only in headphones until next reboot.
-if headphones not plugged in at boot, sound in both speakers and headphones
until next boot.

In 11.10 the behavior was correct, speakers would turn off as soon as
headphones were plugged in.

[Bug 1020844] [NEW] Firefox 13.0.1 loses banner and locks keyboard when Gmail is loaded under Google. Using 32-bit Kubuntu 12.04. Same banner shows when I ssh -X from 64-bit machine and everything is

2012-07-04 Thread Reg Dodds
Public bug reported:

Firefox 13.0.1 loses
(1) its banner containing {fox icon, round ball, text header for page, lower to
task bar ball, reduce size of window ball, and quit ball}. This header bar
disappears, and
(2) the keyboard does not respond; it seems to be locked.
(3) The Kubuntu task bar at the bottom of the desktop window also disappears.

This happens when Gmail is loaded from the Google menu, at the point that the
Gmail user signs in to Gmail, i.e. when the Gmail SIGN ON button is clicked.

I am using 32-bit Kubuntu 12.04 LTS with initrd.img-3.2.0-26-generic-pae with
wonky Firefox.
sudo apt-cache policy firefox ===
firefox:
  Installed: 13.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1

BUT IT WORKS THROUGH SSH -X ...

Same banner shows up, task bar is unaffected, keyboard works when
running ssh -X ... from another 64-bit machine to wonky machine and
run Firefox remotely and everything is normal. Both machines were
installed from same Kubuntu 12.04 LTS CD and then fully upgraded.
Firefox 13.0.1 that behaves 100% normally on 64-bit machine where
everything WORKS has initrd.img-3.2.0-25-generic, NOT 26.
