[Bug 959037] Re: NM-controlled dnsmasq prevents other DNS servers from starting

2012-11-22 Thread Thomas Hood
 the current default installation wherein network-manager starts
 an instance of dnsmasq to act as a DHCP, DNS and TFTP server.

NetworkManager starts an instance of dnsmasq to act only as a non-
caching DNS nameserver forwarder. This instance listens only on the
loopback interface 127.0.1.1.

If your client is DHCPing with a dnsmasq instance on an Ubuntu server
then that dnsmasq instance is most probably a standalone instance,
configured by means of files included in the dnsmasq package (not to
be confused with the dnsmasq-base package which contains little more
than the dnsmasq binary and which both the dnsmasq package and the
network-manager package depend on) and started by an initscript, not by
NetworkManager.

In reading further into your text my understanding is hampered by the
fact that I am not entirely sure which machine you are referring to at
different points in your text.

 The problem is that the LTSP client, after successfully getting
 DHCP assignments, fails to download the pxelinux boot image.
 It reports PXE-E32: TFTP open timeout.
 To be more specific on the DHCP assignments, it identifies
 my hardware router as the DHCP server and the default gateway.
 It identifies the LTSP server as proxy and boot server.

Is your LTSP server running Ubuntu and standalone dnsmasq? Then
shouldn't the client use your LTSP server as the DHCP server?

 So dnsmasq is not binding to my server IP during boot.
  If I remove /etc/dnsmasq.d/network-manager
 (which issues the sole dnsmasq directive to bind all the
 interfaces instead of listening on 0.0.0.0) and restart the
 server it allows the client to boot normally.

I think I know what is happening. The network-manager package causes
(by means of the /etc/dnsmasq.d/network-manager file) the standalone
dnsmasq to start in bind-interfaces mode. In that mode dnsmasq doesn't
listen on the wildcard IP address; it only listens on the addresses
assigned to interfaces that are up when it (dnsmasq) starts. At boot,
dnsmasq starts before the external interface is configured via DHCP, so
dnsmasq doesn't listen on the external interface. If dnsmasq is
restarted after the external interface is configured then dnsmasq
listens on that interface too.

If you remove /etc/dnsmasq.d/network-manager then standalone dnsmasq
listens on the wildcard address when it starts and all is well except
that now standalone dnsmasq conflicts with the NetworkManager-controlled
dnsmasq instance. To fix this you have to disable the latter. Edit
/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf and comment out the line
dns=dnsmasq: put a '#' at the beginning of the line.

In the future we hope that standalone dnsmasq running in bind-interfaces
mode will be enhanced such that it listens on interfaces that are
brought up after it (dnsmasq) starts. The author of dnsmasq, Simon
Kelley, has already implemented this enhancement experimentally. Once
that work is done it will be possible to run dnsmasq in bind-interfaces
mode without causing the problem that you ran into.

[Bug 1081952] [NEW] squid 3.1.19 external_acl_type fail

2012-11-22 Thread sense
Public bug reported:

System: ubuntu 12.04.1
Squid: 3.1.19-1ubuntu3.12.04.1 (apt-get install)

In squid.conf:
...
external_acl_type testcom_ip ttl=0 children=5 ipv4 %SRC php
/php/squid_eacl/test_ip.php
acl testcom_ipacl external testcom_ip
http_access allow testcom testcom_ipacl
http_access deny all
...

In the /php/squid_eacl/test_ip.php, I let it return OK everytime:
?php
$time=null;
$output=null;
while ($i = fopen('php://stdin', 'r')) {
$ii = fgets($i);
$s = trim($ii);
fclose($i);
if ($s == NULL) {
if ($time == time()) {
break;
} else {
$time = time();
continue;
}
}
$o = fopen('php://stdout', 'w');
#fwrite($o,OK user=test\n);
fwrite($o,OK\n);
fclose($o);
}
?

Client use the Squid server as proxy and will get Access Deny many
time. It seems squid will miss the external_acl_type acl ( http_access
allow testcom testcom_ipacl) of config.conf in sometime.

[Bug 1081701] Re: The metadata address mentioned in the preseed is wrong.

2012-11-22 Thread Gavin Panella
Raphaël and I discussed two options:

1. Render the preseed in the cluster.

2. Send the cluster address to the region during start-up so that it
   can render the preseed with the correct address.

We decided that #1 better divides responsibilities, but that we would
go for option #2 for two reasons: it's a lot less work, and it doesn't
preclude doing #1 at a later date and may be useful to that effort.

I made some notes about what it would take to do #1, included below,
which may be worth tracking as a blueprint (Julian, what is the best
way to propose work like this?).

.. -*- mode: rst -*-

Things needed from the region to render a preseed:
==

- From ``maasserver.compose_preseed``:

  - Metadata URL: ``absolute_reverse('metadata')``
  - Token: ``NodeKey.objects.get_token_for_node(node)``
  - Node status: ``node.status`` (only if commissioning or not)

- From ``maasserver.preseed``:

  - Node status: ``node.status`` (only if commissioning or not)

  - Enum ``PRESEED_TYPE``.

    ⇒ Move to ``provisioningserver``?

  - Setting ``PRESEED_TEMPLATE_LOCATIONS``.

    ⇒ Move to ``provisioningserver``.

  - Config:

     - ``commissioning_distro_series``
     - ``main_archive``
     - ``ports_archive``
     - ``http_proxy``

    ⇒ Can be obtained via API.

  - Server host: ``get_maas_facing_server_host`` (used for?)

    ⇒ Already known on cluster?

  - Server URL: ``absolute_reverse('nodes_handler')`` (used for?)

    ⇒ Already known on cluster?

  - Enlistment URL: ``absolute_reverse('enlist')``

  - Disable netboot URL::

      absolute_reverse(
          'metadata-node-by-id',
          args=['latest', node.system_id])

  - Enlistment preseed URL::

      absolute_reverse(
          'metadata-enlist-preseed', args=[version],
          query={'op': 'get_enlist_preseed'})

    ⇒ Becomes responsibility of ``provisioningserver``.

  - Regular preseed URL::

      absolute_reverse(
          'metadata-node-by-id', args=[version, node.system_id],
          query={'op': 'get_preseed'})

    ⇒ Becomes responsibility of ``provisioningserver``.

- From ``contrib/preseeds_v2/generic``:

  - Node architecture: ``node.architecture``

Which boils down to:

Code moves (see below_) and a view that returns:

- Metadata URL: ``absolute_reverse('metadata')``

- Token: ``NodeKey.objects.get_token_for_node(node)``

- Node status: ``node.status`` (only if commissioning or not)

- Node architecture: ``node.architecture``

- Enlistment URL: ``absolute_reverse('enlist')``

- Disable netboot URL::

    absolute_reverse(
        'metadata-node-by-id', args=['latest', node.system_id])

- *Optional:* return config items (e.g. ``ports_archive``)

.. _below: `Adding rendering server to the provisioning server:`_

Adding rendering server to the provisioning server:
===

- Resurrect HTTP server in ``provisioningserver.plugin``.

- Move code, as detailed earlier_, to ``provisioningserver``, and
  perform some moderate refactoring.

- Add handler to the ``provisioningserver`` HTTP server to query the
  view_ detailed above, perhaps query the API for config, and call the
  render code.

.. _earlier: `Things needed from the region to render a preseed:`_
.. _view: `Which boils down to:`_

Notes:
==

- The ``pxeconfig`` view calculates the preseed URLs. This calculation
  no longer needs to happen, and its responsibility passes to the
  provisioning server.

[Bug 1081836] Re: nova-compute (folsom) fails to start, compute_driver is None

commit 7e8a1662577bc86e873f9f957e74076ac89eb80b
Author: Adam Gandelman adam.gandel...@canonical.com
Date:   Wed Nov 21 16:13:29 2012 -0800

Reinstate default FLAGS.compute_driver for folsom

A previous cherry-picked commit moved the compute_driver flag from
the compute manager to the global flags file, but did not take the
flags default value along. This breaks existing Folsom installations
that still use connection_type.

Note, this is only proposed to stable/folsom to fix a regression. Not
applicable to master as connection_type is gone in Grizzly.

Fixes bug 1081836.

[Bug 1081836] Re: nova-compute (folsom) fails to start, compute_driver is None

2012-11-22 Thread Mark McLoughlin
Thanks for find this nasty issue

This is the commit which introduced the regression:
https://review.openstack.org/16432

It's a backport of this: https://review.openstack.org/14991

However, the latter fix was only required to fix an issue with this fix
on master: https://review.openstack.org/14068

This is now being backported too:
https://review.openstack.org/#/c/16713/

Which means the original backport causing this regression will still be
needed and we just need to fix it.

[Bug 1067876] Re: [quantal] Missing Safely Remove Drive and Eject options from context menu. Only have Unmount.

2012-11-22 Thread Dražen Lučanin
Also, the safely remove option would recognise if the external drive had
multiple partitions and offer to remove the master device if I remember
correctly. Now I have to manually unmount four partitions on my 2 TB
external disk every time I want to remove it.

Expected behaviour - Expected behaviour - when Unity detects that the
user is ejecting a partition that is on an external drive containing
more partitions, it should offer to safely remove the whole device.
Alternatively there should be two options upon right clicking a drive
icon - unmount only the partition and safely remove master device.

If any configuration is interesting, in order to find out what is

[Bug 1001189] Re: 'man' command fails with lseek error opening cross-architecture index.db file (on network share)

2012-11-22 Thread Colin Watson
** Description changed:

+ [Impact] Sharing a directory containing manual page databases between 32-bit
and 64-bit systems can cause man to crash.
+ [Test Case] Configure a local manual page hierarchy (in ~/.manpath or
otherwise), containing a single page. Run mandb over it from a 64-bit
environment. Request that page using man from a 32-bit environment.
+ [Regression Potential] This code has been in 12.10 and Debian for quite a
while, so I think it's pretty safe. If it fails, it'll be fairly obvious from
routine use of man and mandb.
+
+ Original report follows:
+
  When trying to look up the on-line documentation using the 'man' command
  it fails on 12.04 with lseek error. For example:

  $ man resolvconf
  gdbm fatal: lseek error

  This lseek error applies to other requests as well (e.g. ls, fdisk,
  etc). System information is:

  $ lsb_release -rd
  Description:  Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
  Release:  12.04

  apt-cache policy man
  man:
-   Installed: (none)
-   Candidate: (none)
-   Version table:
+   Installed: (none)
+   Candidate: (none)
+   Version table:

  However, it is installed since it runs as a command, and I find:

  $ which man
  /usr/bin/man

  $ man --version
  man 2.6.1

  What I expect is to read the manual page appropriate to the
  command/program, and not get a software error.

[Bug 1081959] [NEW] Bluetooth will not work with Ubuntu 12.10

2012-11-22 Thread jairo2350
Public bug reported:

I have recently upgraded from Ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10. I am running a Dell
Inspiron n4110. i5 processor. I had this same problem with 11.04 when I
first put it on this machine. Somehow Ubuntu ties the bluetooth and wifi
in together. It is reading the wifi but will not recognize the
bluetooth. Until the bluetooth is recognized and turned on it will not
detect a network.

[Bug 875629] Re: cannot set multiple library locations in Rhythmbox 2.90.1

2012-11-22 Thread crispy
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 164986 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/164986

This bug affects me also. Had to manually edit in commandline with
gsettings to remove some locations that were causing trouble (really
slow wireless network locations for example).

It really bugs me that you cannot see what locations you have added and
remove them via the rhythmbox UI. It is really lousy design in my
opinion. Can anyone explain to me the decision NOT to include this in
the UI?

[Bug 1081384] Re: Update to 310.19

2012-11-22 Thread yossarian_uk
Really Ubuntu needs to ship the nvidia driver as a roling release.

Ubuntu devs cannot fix the driver (being closed source..) and keeping an
older version with known bugs in is insane.

i.e in the name of 'stability' Ubuntu ships a nvidia driver with known
bugs in that are fixed in later releases - that doesn;t make any sense.

As well as shipping a driver with known bugs (how on earth is that good
for LTS versions?) it lacks support of later cards.

i.e at work a person who has never used Linux on the desktop before
(normally a Mac user) came across the bug where a 2nd monitor will never
wake up . You have to reboot to fix it - this was fixed in a later
version but Ubuntu keeps the version with the bugs.

[Bug 1081976] [NEW] When prompted to create a Google account after visiting GMail, login form is empty

2012-11-22 Thread Alberto Mardegan
Public bug reported:

When the capture of browser credentials is enabled (this feature is
provided by the xul-ext-webaccounts package) and the user visits for the
first time gmail.com and accepts the WebApps integration, the Online
Accounts panel pops up and prompts the user to enter his Google
credentials.

However, both the username and password fields are empty. While for the
password field it's a design decision (due to possible legal/political
issues), not provising even the username leads to a bad user experience.
By providing the username prefilled in the form, it's more clear what we
are expecting from the user, and we avoid having the user attempting to
login with a different account.

The root of this bug is:
http://code.google.com/p/accounts-sso/issues/detail?id=132

which could also have some other serious implications besides this one.

For all the above, I suggest this fix to be integrated into Ubuntu 12.10 as an
SRU. The risk of regressions is minimal, because the package is well covered
with unit tests and the proposed code change only inverts the order in which a
couple of actions are performed -- no code is added or removed.

[Bug 965895] Re: After boot, NetworkManager indicator menu only shows four entries

2012-11-22 Thread Patrick Roskelley
After being frustrated with NM-Applet not functioning correctly since I
upgraded to 12.04, I wondered if it may be part of a larger problem.
I decided to rename the 'panel' directory for xfce4 inside of
'/home/user/.config/', so that it would reset the defaults of the Panel, and
then I rebooted. After that the Indicator Plugin functioned as expected with
NM-Applet showing the VPN option.

I did not see any mention within this thread of people trying to reset
their Panel to default, so I figured my solution may not be a just a
fluke just for my configuration.

[Bug 1081843] Re: (small improvement) More Effective Window Switch WIth Sidebar

2012-11-22 Thread John Lea
** Description changed:

  It would be very useful if you could simply hover over an icon of an
  open app and scroll with the mouse wheel to switch and highlight between
  the windows of that app, if it has more.
+
+ -
+ Desired resolution:
+
+ Try implementing the following as an experiment. Before the change
+ described below lands in Ubuntu *it must first be user tested, and
+ reviewed by the design team*
+
+
+ If the pointer is positioned over the Launcher icon of an application that is
in focus which has multiple windows open in the following order A,B,C,D,E:
+
+ - Scrolling the mouse wheel 'one click towards the user' should display the
next window (B) of the application in the Z stack. e.g.
+ Starting Z stack order:   A,B,C,D,E
+ Output Z stack order: B,A,C,D,E
+
+
+ - Scrolling the mouse wheel 'one click away from the user' should display the
bottom window (E) in the application in the Z stack
+ Starting Z stack order:   A,B,C,D,E
+ Output Z stack order: E,A,B,C,D
+
+
+ - Scrolling the mouse wheel 'two clicks towards the user' should first
briefly display the next window of the application in the Z stack (window B)
after the first mousewheel click, and then on the second mousewheel click
return window B to it's previous position in the z-stack and display window C.
+ Starting Z stack order:   A,B,C,D,E
+ Output Z stack order: C,A,B,D,E
+
+ - Scrolling the mouse wheel 'two clicks away from the user' should first
briefly display the bottom window of the application in the Z stack (window E)
after the first mousewheel click, and then on the second mousewheel click
return window E to it's previous position in the z-stack and display the next
most bottom window, window D.
+ Starting Z stack order:   A,B,C,D,E
+ Output Z stack order: D,A,B,C,E
+
+
+ - Scrolling the mouse wheel 'three clicks towards the user' should first
briefly display the next window of the application in the Z stack (window B)
after the first mousewheel click, and then return window B to it's previous
position in the z-stack and briefly display the next window of the application
in the Z stack (window C) after the second mousewheel click, and then on the
third mousewheel click return window C to it's previous position in the z-stack
and display window D.
+ Starting Z stack order:   A,B,C,D,E
+ Output Z stack order: D,A,B,C,E
+
+
+ - etc, etc... for more windows and more mouse wheel clicks in either
direction.
+
+
+ If the application *is not* in focus when the user moves their pointer over
the Launcher app icon, the first mouse wheel click towards or away from the
user should focus the application, and bring the top most window in the
application's z stack to the front of the global z stack. Subsequent clicks of
the mouse wheel the operate exactly as described above.
+
+ If the application is not running, or has only one open window mouse
+ wheel clicking towards or away from the user when the pointer is over
+ the application's launcher icon should do nothing.
+
+ Because this behaviour will conflict with the current use of the mouse
+ wheel to scroll the launcher, the mouse wheel launcher scroll should be
+ changed to only work when the ALT key is held down. e.g. to scroll the
+ launcher with the mouse wheel the user will have to press ALT +
+ MOUSEWHEEL UP or press ALT + MOUSEWHEEL DOWN

[Bug 667076] Re: Ubuntu's libvirt is compiled with VirtualBox driver disabled by default

VirtualBox isn't needed anymore to be able to build the libvirt driver,
see this debian bug : http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-

VirtualBox is only a runtime dependency when one wants to use the

by default on the Ubuntu package.

@triplesqaurednine

If that is the case then the black window bug (which I cannot reproduce)
is different to the white window bug, as suggested by others.

[Bug 1064962] Re: [SRU] Global menubar items do not work when opening a document directly from nautilus with no LibreOffice instance running

2012-11-22 Thread Luiz Angelo Daros de Luca
As Carlos said in comment #150, the fix does not solve the problem. Now I
always get a menu bar but the menu is useless.
When the problem appears, all menu items, enable or disabled, do nothing when
clicked.

It is not a calc/base specific issue as I got this in writer.

I can reproduce it anytime by openning a downloaded document from my
gmail account.
