[Bug 1128994] [NEW] Can't boot into Windows 7 after install Ubuntu 12.10

2013-02-18 Thread Mohamed Abdel-Aal
Public bug reported:

This is the second time i encounter this problem. I have Windows 7 installed on
Partition C on my Hard drive.
When I tried to install Ubuntu 12.10, it detects that I have Windows 7
installation. I choose the option to install Ubuntu along side Windows 7 and
let the installer do the work automatically. When installation finishes, I got
the grub2 menu showing that normal Ubuntu choices and one entry for Windows 7.
When I choose it, I got an error message that I can't boot into Windows. I
didn't note the message but it talks about having invalid arguments for calling
Windows 7 loader.

After doing some researches on this problem, my major suspection is that
Ubuntu overwrote the MBR records for Windows. It didn't create for
itself another drive and installed its boot record!

** Affects: grub2 (Ubuntu)

 Status: New

Re: [Bug 1128942] [NEW] Requires SessionManager now?

2013-02-18 Thread Luke Yelavich
Testing the latest daily of raring and attempting to use Orca for
installation shows that everything still works properly, so at-spi2-core
doesn't require a session manager, I think its just trying to find one.

Given the new world order with GTK3 and at-spi, we no longer need to
explicitly launch at-spi2 in ubiquity-dm, since GTK now launches at-spi2
via the use of libatk-bridge. I wonder if these messages go away if the
at-spi2 loading code from ubiquity-dm is removed.

[Bug 1123192] Re: open-iscsi removes modules on stop but should not

2013-02-18 Thread Alex Bligh
Actually one problem we are seeing should be pretty universal.

When using OCFS2, it will open the shared iSCSI device with O_DIRECT,
and write a heartbeat there. If this errors, then the node self fences
(i.e. reboots).

If the open-iscsi package is upgraded, it calls the init with a stop
method, then the start method. There may be a gap between these two if
lots of packages are being upgraded.

It's actually not just the modprobes that are the problem here, it's the
fact that it logs out of all iscsi targets WHETHER OR NOT THEY ARE IN
THE CONFIG FILE which is the issue. In one scenario here we aren't using
the config file at all - we're calling iscsiadm or equivalent to mount
the LUNs directly.

What should be happening here I think is it shutting down the daemon and
arguably stopping the targets it started on boot. I don't see why it's
interfering with other targets it had nothing to do with starting. Or at
least there should be some /etc/default type setting that says 'please
don't interfere with running targets'.

What happens if your root directory is on iscsi? (serious question - I'm
interested in how it's meant to cope)

[Bug 968855] Re: Errors and Comments from pam (here: pam-pkcs11) are written in user-names - and therefore unreadable

2013-02-18 Thread Colin Watson
Hello Lars, or anyone else affected,

Accepted unity-greeter into precise-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-
greeter/0.2.9-0ubuntu1.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

Thanks bart.

Working with workaround.

Open libreoffice go to printer setup - Properties - Device

Set Printer Language Type = Postscript (Level from printer)

Now seems to print.

I think this should still be fixed though but at least I can print with
the workaround.

[Bug 996245] Re: [Gigabyte MB: GA-Z77X-UD5H-WB, ALC898] No sound from headphone/line-out jacks

2013-02-18 Thread Zaphrod
Well I have re-installed Ubuntu 4 times now so that I am working with a
fresh install each time and I have been unable to get sound working on
either the front audio jack or the rear green line out jack using either
the upstream drivers or the Realtek Drivers though I am able to get
sound out of the sub-woofer jack.

I would be interested to know from those who have had success with the
Realtek Driver which version of the driver you used and whether you just
used the install script or if you followed the compile instructions and
if you added any dependencies of any kind before hand?

I would also note that I do hear a brief scratching type of sound from
the line out jacks when the system starts or if I change the sound
settings in the audio panel.

[Bug 1129021] [NEW] Couldn't Connect to Cloud Service

2013-02-18 Thread Chris Williams
Public bug reported:

If have googled this problem and can't find any answers.

I get the following when running cloudprint:

chris@purplewelshy:~$ cloudprint -d
Updated Printer Stylus-C82-Colour
Updated Printer Stylus-C82
chris@purplewelshy:~$ started with pid 3896
ERROR: Couldn't Connect to Cloud Service. Will Try again in 60 Seconds
ERROR: Couldn't Connect to Cloud Service. Will Try again in 60 Seconds

etc. etc.

I am using:

Ubuntu 12.04 3.2.0-37-lowlatency-pae
Python 2.7.3 (default, Aug 1 2012, 05:16:07)
[GCC 4.6.3] on linux2
cloudprint installed from the software center which seems to be the latest
version of cloudprint
cloudprint:
  Installed: 0.5-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 0.5-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 0.5-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/universe i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

My nexus sends the print to google and google shows the test print in the
correct print queue.

Am I missing something obvious?

Chris.

I have tried that. In fact I have tried all tweaks listed all over the internet
for my device, but they haven't been of much help. bdw, for filing a report in
bugzilla do I need to create a new account?

@Dave
I will check it and paste the output here soon.

[Bug 1111416] Re: CONFIG_NFS_V4_1=y in Precise kernel update, please

2013-02-18 Thread Niklas Edmundsson
We have now tested the NFS 4.1 functionality of both the Precise and
Quantal kernels and they both work as expected. No regressions have been
found when testing on machines not using NFS 4.1.

AFAIK this got fixed with the change; let's just make sure it's still
fixed with the switch from the gadget module to the other one for
tethering and all...

[Bug 732634] Re: Progress bar restarts from zero after copying files

2013-02-18 Thread Colin Watson
This bug is mostly full of misinformation; the PROGRESS REGION extension
has existed in ubiquity since before it was even called ubiquity. I
suspect something is just breaking the protocol stream slightly.

[Bug 1123588] Re: [4.7 Regression] wrong code with the fix for PR53844

2013-02-18 Thread Matthias Klose
according to http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=56301#c3 this
is not an issue with GCC, but job_new shouldn't be marked with the
malloc attribute. The following patch lets the test case pass without
the GCC change reverted. Maybe other usages of the malloc attribute
should be revisited.
