[Bug 1167220] [NEW] NO Keyboard selection when on english

2013-04-10 Thread Maraschin
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 13.04 daily April 7

When starting a new ubuntu installation and set the language to English, there
will be no questions about keyboard layout.
i think to have to go to an icon above to change the keyboard layout is not
intuitive and should be part of the selection process instead. You could always
accept the default values.

I particularly use English as the language but I'm on a computer that has a
Swedish keyboard most of the time. Some times I do have to use Brazilian
keyboards...
It may seems a corner case but there are several people that uses English as
the default language and a NOT English keyboard!

Make it intuitive, stop to complicate things! Stop to assume!

[Bug 1167019] Re: wifi packet loss on intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000

2013-04-10 Thread Alan Pope ㋛
I will try that kernel.

I don't know how long it's been happening. Unfortunately bug 1157114
means I rarely take the laptop out of the docking station, so it's
mostly on a wired network.

2013-04-10 Thread Chris Wilson
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1020393 ***

I think the underlying bug here is the PGTBL_ER: 0x2 which is an invalid
PTE for host access. Utterly baffling - the only hope is that the
rearrangement of mb() in drm-intel-nightly (ppa:mainline) help. If you
have a reasonably reliable test case, trying drm-intel-nightly would be
of tremendous help.

[Bug 1167229] [NEW] FeatureFreeze for Morse new upstream release

2013-04-10 Thread Sylvestre Ledru
Public bug reported:

Dear MOTUs,

Please consider a FeatureFreeze exception for a bugfix-only update to
the morse-simulator package.

The updated version (morse-simulator-1.0.1, as packaged in Debian) is
feature-wise mostly identical to the alpha version currently available
in Ubuntu but with the added stability of 2 betas and a post-release
maintenance release.

It notably fixes build issues related to python3.3, several severe
issues with communication between the simulator and external clients,
resource leaks.

The majority of the other changes are documentation.

I hope you can consider this exception,
Cheers,
Severin Sylvestre

[Bug 527938]

2013-04-10 Thread grofaty
@Rainer Bielefeld, retested on LibreOffice v4.0.2.2 on Windows XP on
both bugs suggested.

First post from this 33266 bug is:

Steps to reproduce

- Install LO without Base
- Open Writer
- Select Tools - Bibliography Database
- LO crash

Crashes with Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library. Runtime Error! Program:
C:\Program Files\LibreOffice 4.0\program\soffice.bin abnormal program
termination.

I have tested this on two computers. In one crashes with above error and
on another computer works fine. The difference is that LibreOffice crash
computer there is no LibreOffice Base installed. So my suggestion is to
gray out the Tools | Bibliography Database if LibreOffice Base is not
installed.

First post from bug report 62478 bug is:

1. Launch LibO
2. From LibO Start Center: Menu 'Tools - Options - Expand LibreOfficeDev Base'
3. Click 'Databases'
Crash

Tested on LibreOffice 4.0.2.2 on Windows XP on two computers. Crash does not
appear in my case.

So in my humble opinion I have commented on correct bug.

[Bug 527938]

2013-04-10 Thread Libreoffice-z
NOT reproducible with reduced user installation (without Base) of LibO
4.0.2.2 rc - German UI / German Locale [Build ID:
4c82dcdd6efcd48b1d8bba66bfe1989deee49c3)] {tinderbox: @6, pull time
2013-03-26 12:00(?)} on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) with newly created own
user profile.
As Expected
* When I launch LibO Database button is greyed out in LibO Start Center
* When I try to open an arbitrary.odb File type filter dialog opens
* When I do menu 'Tools - Options - LibO Base Database' no crash

@grofaty:
I agree, your problem obviously is not Bug 62478 (does not match with date of
appearance and observation in other 4.0.2.2 installations).
But I doubt that your problem has to do with Bug 33266. Same symptoms, but
probably different roots. If the problem persists after usual repair attempts
please report a new bug with very precise information concerning your
installation.

Closing this one again.

[Bug 1167231] [NEW] Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in OsAbort() - Cannot mirror screen in good resolution

2013-04-10 Thread Till Kamppeter
Public bug reported:

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Twist with Core i7 processor and on-chip HD4000
GPU. It has an internal 1366x768 (16:9) display and I have connected and
external 1920x1080 (16:9) monitor via HDMI. By default the display gets
mirrored with only 1024x768 (4:3) because this is the highest common
resolution of the two reported by xrandr. I can switch to a large
desktop formed by the two screens with the System Settings (section
Display) with each screen using its native resolution.

To get a better mirroring I tried to mirror my screen via the command

xrandr --output LVDS 1--auto --output HDMI1 --auto --same-as LVDS1

taken from

https://kis.kellogg.northwestern.edu/Pages/ExternalDisplaysLinux.aspx

After that both screens showed garbage and do not react to mouse clicks
and key presses any more. Unplugging the external screen left the
internal with the garbage and I had to SSH in from another Ubuntu
machine and run

sudo restart lightdm

to recover the display of the laptop.

That patch did not resolve the multi-paragraph issue, just the long footnote
text issue.

[Bug 1049466] Re: Need support of Ralink RT3290 wifi support

2013-04-10 Thread Campbell Brown
Following the lead of David Samuels (#31 above), I installed Kernel 3.8,
and then installed the firmware downloaded from kernel.org (as described
in #8). My wireless is now working. However, the very odd thing is that
it seemed to take some time for this solution to take effect.
Immediately after following the above steps, wireless did not work and
my network menu said 'device not ready', as others have reported. I
spent the next hour or so trying to fix this, rebooting several times in
the process, but to no avail. I gave up and went to bed. But this
morning, when I logged in, the wireless was suddenly alive! (I guess
David had a similar experience, since he reports needing to reboot
twice.)

My current situation seems very similar to what David describes above (I
think we have similar computers -- mine is an HP Pavilion dm1 4400). In
particular, bluetooth is absent. Perhaps more firmware is needed?

Anyway, thanks to David and others for their comments on this forum.
They have been very helpful.

[Bug 1166916] Re: temperature overheating probably radeon

2013-04-10 Thread Dave Lentz
The open-source radeon driver is notorious for overheating laptops.
Unfortunately, you cannot use fglrx/Catalyst on Ubuntu 12.10 or later for that
GPU. Your best best is to stick with 12.04 and use the proprietary
fglrx/Catalyst driver for now.
Another option is using 12.10 and downgrading your Xserver using makson96 PPA,
but that is a hack and may cause package management issues down the road (use
at own risk): https://launchpad.net/~makson96/+archive/fglrx

Note that AMD is working on releasing better power management code/docs,
but it's currently still under legal review:

[Bug 1049450] Re: Fails trying to hide the xfce4-panel panel 1

2013-04-10 Thread kura
I found this in .xsession-errors
(xfce4-panel:10385): GLib-WARNING **: GChildWatchSource: Exit status of a
child process was requested but ECHILD was received by waitpid(). Most likely
the process is ignoring SIGCHLD, or some other thread is invoking waitpid()
with a nonpositive first argument; either behavior can break applications that
use g_child_watch_add()/g_spawn_sync() either directly or indirectly.
If that could help

Tested wpasupplicant 2.0 from the PPA Timo suggested using the stock
raring kernel 3.8.0-17 but unfortunately it made no difference.

Also tried upstream 3.9 as requested and that too makes no difference.

[Bug 1167246] [NEW] Can NOT activate existing encrypted partition

2013-04-10 Thread Maraschin
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 13.04 daily April 7

There is no way I can activate an already existing encrypted partition.

Case:
i already have ubuntu installed and I would like to install a new version, in
this case 13.04
But I do not want to loose my /data partition which has several TB of data and
is encrypted.
I would like just to mount it.

As well in the same encrypted partition I use LVM with the / and swap

[Bug 1167019] Re: wifi packet loss on intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000

2013-04-10 Thread Alan Pope ㋛
I should point out I have two access points at opposite ends of the
house, with the same ESSID. The one nearest my laptop right now is the
only one it can see. It's a netgear wndr3700 running dd-wrt. The other
one is the same model but running openwrt.

The fact remains a macbook pro sat next to it maintained a solid
connection while testing, so I don't think there's anything wrong with
the access points. I also never had this happen on 12.04 before
upgrading.

[Bug 1167252] [NEW] black window for glmark2 and glxgears in Raring

2013-04-10 Thread Fiorenzo De Santis
Public bug reported:

When I run

glmark2

or

vblank_mode=0 glxgears

I get a black output window.

However both work well in full-screen mode

glmark2 --fullscreen
vblank_mode=0 glxgears -fullscreen

and glxgears works fine also without the vblank_mode=0 option

Unfortunately it is not possibile, the server is in production and

[Bug 1167255] [NEW] No standard documentation for certutil

2013-04-10 Thread l0b0
Public bug reported:

On a vanilla installation, there doesn't seem to be any documentation
installed with the `certutil` tool - none of the following commands
yield a manual or pointers to where a manual could be found:

man certutil
apropos certutil
info certutil
locate certutil
apt-cache search certutil
certutil -H

The last command provides a verbose parameter reference, but the
familiar man page sections with a synopsis, prose description, examples,
known bugs, longer option explanations and the like are missing, and
there's no pointer to a fuller reference. Googling revealed
https://www.mozilla.org/projects/security/pki/nss/tools/certutil.html,
which looks great, but it would be great to have an offline reference.

[Bug 1167254] [NEW] Empathy plugin causes gnome-do to freeze/crash

2013-04-10 Thread Martin Florian
Public bug reported:

The Empathy plugin is currently completely unusable on Ubuntu 12.04. For
example:
1. Start gnome-do
2. Write chat and select one of your contacts
3. Press Enter
Effect: nothing happens, gnome-do can't be summoned again and needs to be
killed.

I tried starting gnome-do in a shell with --debug, there was no new
line after I tried to open a chat. I tried the latest gnome-do-plugins
package from raring (0.8.4-5), no change.

My system:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS
Release:12.04

$ apt-cache policy gnome-do-plugins
gnome-do-plugins:
  Installed: 0.8.4-5

+ I'm using gnome classic, don't know if that might influence something.

Please tell if more information on my part might be helpful.

2013-04-10 Thread Till Kamppeter
Problem occurs only with the mainline kernel which I had installed due
to bug 1162732 (computer does not wake up from suspend).

With Raring's current standard kernel I can get into the desired mirror
mode via (also awkward):

xrandr --addmode HDMI1 1366x768
xrandr --output HDMI1 --mode 1366x768
xrandr --output HDMI1 --mode 1366x768 --same-as LVDS1

[Bug 1166230] Re: Updater lists many transitional dummy packages

2013-04-10 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Whether or not transitional dummy package is informative, that is what
the Debian wiki currently recommends you use for the synopsis.
http://wiki.debian.org/Renaming_a_Package And for all I know, maybe
there are scripts or other tools for renaming a package, which embed
that string in their code. If they exist, is it practical to change them
to be more context-sensitive?

If not, then we have to reduce the visible redundancy ourselves. Two questions:
1. Why do transitional dummy packages need updates at all? What needs updating
about an empty package?
2. The description of most of those packages says that it can safely be
removed. Why aren't we removing it instead of updating it?

[Bug 1157114] Re: corruption making desktop unusable after docking/undocking

2013-04-10 Thread Alan Pope ㋛
Interestingly there might be two separate issues here.

Last night I pulled the laptop out of the dock while running and got visible
corruption. Restarting compiz/unity had _no_ effect.
I restarted the machine and then much later I docked the laptop while running
and got the usual corruption. However this time, restarting unity made the
issue go away.

The undocking corruption is what you see in the video in comment #2
The docking corruption is less pronounced, with more text on screen in a
readable state.

Right, the above patches should be correct now (he says hopefully). I
don't know which is the best to use.

[Bug 1133968] Re: rhythmbox fast forwards song

2013-04-10 Thread Deepak
** Description changed:

- when music is being played and rhythmbox window is opened, pausing the music
by right clicking on its icon in launcher and then again playing the song it
fast forwards the current song and next songs until I press 'next'.
- It occured many times.
- It also occured after resuming from sleep.
+ First pausing and then playing music in rhythmbox sometimes results in fast
forwarding a song.
+ It correctly plays song after pressing 'next' sometimes.
+ It also occurs after resuming from sleep.

[Bug 1079605] Re: Please sync with the latest 0.109 from Sid

2013-04-10 Thread dino99
Latest Debian version:
http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/i/initramfs-
tools/current/changelog.html

So the latest stable package is the 0.109, which fix lot of issues since the
actual used 0.103 into Raring.
The main issue i ALWAYS get with a cold boot is : ramdisk : incomplete write
(which is affecting lot of users, while googling around). So some default
initramfs.conf settings sould be changed now too, as:
- using xz instead of gzip
- using dep instead of most

As that package ( the like) is important for booting, a sync with
Debian Sid should be done before Raring freeze.

[Bug 1049466] Re: Need support of Ralink RT3290 wifi support

2013-04-10 Thread Christopher Hill
I had this problem on an HP envy dv7, running latest Raring release
(thought I'd take a chance on running the pre-release beta), which uses
a 3.8.0.x kernel series.

0a:00.0 Network controller: Ralink corp. RT3290 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe
0a:00.1 Bluetooth: Ralink corp. RT3290 Bluetooth

Solution for me was in #8 above:

# git clone
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/dwmw2/linux-firmware.git
# cp linux-firmware/rt3290.bin /lib/firmware/
# shutdown -r now

Hopefully the linux-firmware .deb will eventually include this.
Raring is using 1.104, which doesn't include rt3290.bin yet.

This has got wireless working correctly, however there are still 2 minor
(for me) problems.

1) Bluetooth isn't working
2) The airplane mode keyboard toggle doesn't do anything

[Bug 1167265] [NEW] Please set maintainers to Ubuntu Developers instead of Anthony Wong

2013-04-10 Thread Howard Chan
Public bug reported:

According to the Ubuntu Packaging Guide Basic Overview of the debian/
directory Section 2 The control file
(http://developer.ubuntu.com/packaging/html/debian-dir-overview.html#the-control-file)
it says:

Note that in Ubuntu, we set the Maintainer field to a general address
because anyone can change any package (this differs from Debian where
changing packages is usually restricted to an individual or a team).
Packages in Ubuntu should generally have the Maintainer field set to
Ubuntu Developers ubuntu-devel-disc...@lists.ubuntu.com. If the
Maintainer field is modified, the old value should be saved in the XSBC-
Original-Maintainer field. This can be done automatically with the
update-maintainer script available in the ubuntu-dev-tools package. For
further information, see the Debian Maintainer Field spec on the Ubuntu
wiki.

However in ibus-cangjie, pycangjie and libcangjie the Maintainer Field
is set to Anthony Wong anthony.w...@ubuntu.com, which doesn't comply
with the rules.

Please fix this trivial bug.
