[Bug 1263389] Re: make xkiosk is aborted with return code 127

2013-12-22 Thread Jörg Frings-Fürst
The first bug is insserv. Its not accessible via the path.

First quick dirty:

change in file /usr/share/debirf/modules/a0_prep-root

line 70

from

debirf_exec sh -c 'cd /etc/init.d insserv $(ls | grep -vFx -e rc -e
rcS -e skeleton -e README)'

to

debirf_exec sh -c 'cd /etc/init.d /usr/lib/insserv/insserv $(ls |
grep -vFx -e rc -e rcS -e skeleton -e README)'

But after that debirf runs into upstart - errors

[Bug 1263469] [NEW] [backport-request] 12.04.4 needs a newer version of lightDM-KDE

2013-12-22 Thread Flames_in_Paradise
Public bug reported:

hi Kubuntu developers,

due to the strong efforts to backport

 * Hybrid graphics enablement in 12.04.4 bug #1259237

I have strong reason to believe the current version 0.1.1-0ubuntu0.1 may
not fill the needs. Especially if I look into the changelog
http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/universe/l/lightdm-kde
/lightdm-kde_0.3.2.1-1ubuntu4/changelog

of the most current version. We remember that LightDM was only optional
then.

Would be nice if you could shortcircuit with Alberto?

Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1258837] Re: [Dell Latitude E7440] ALPS touchpad keeps having state reset

2013-12-22 Thread Allan Crooks
From 3.5.0-30 and earlier:
⎡ Virtual core pointerid=2[master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4[slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ PS/2 Generic Mouse id=12[slave pointer (2)]

From 3.5.0-31 onwards:
⎡ Virtual core pointerid=2[master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4[slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ DualPoint Stick id=12[slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePointid=13[slave pointer (2)]

When I booted into 3.5.0-44 to check how xinput identifies the touchpad,
the problem seemed a lot more severe and immediate. So I think later
kernels may have more of a problem with their implementation. That might
possibly help in terms of determining what makes the problem worse.

I'll carry on using 3.5.0-30 for a while to see if I get any of the
error messages appearing.

[Bug 717870] Re: RV710: [drm:radeon_cs_ioctl] *ERROR* Failed to parse relocation -35!

2013-12-22 Thread Olivier Mehani
I had the same error message when using fast user switching. This is
with Precise on a MSI WindBox DC-100 (Radeon HD 6320), so not exactly
the same circumstances, but this got fixed installing libdrm-
radeon1_2.4.46+git20130702.c6d73cfe-0ubuntu0sarvatt~precise (and the
rest of the updated pakages) from the xorg-edgers PPA.

According to [0], commit 0980633afd9c7eecc0c75ef3bea4d3c6b7aa1898 in
libdrm should be the reason why this is fixed.

2013-12-22 Thread jnns
Could anyone of the devs chime in and tell whether there's additional
info needed to fix this issue? It's becoming a nuisance although it's
only a minor issue and probably easy to fix.

[Bug 1164016] Re: restore type-ahead find

2013-12-22 Thread Adam Dingle
Daniel, thanks for your heroic efforts to reproduce the issue I
described. I just followed your list of steps above with a fresh
install of 14.04, fully updated. And I still see the bug!

To be clear, after your steps above:

9) Open a Nautilus window on your home directory.
10) Click the list view icon.
11) With the mouse, click on the Desktop directory (the first item in the list).
12) Type t. The Templates directory will be selected.
13) Press Escape. Templates will still be selected.
14) Press the down arrow key. Documents (the second item in the list) will now
be selected. This is unexpected: Videos should be selected at this time.
15) Type 't' again. Templates will be selected again, but a pale orange
rectangle (i.e. the secondary selection) will still be visible around
Documents, which is unexpected.
16) Press Escape again. The secondary selection rectangle will still be
visible.
17) Press the down arrow again. Now Downloads will be selected, but Videos
should be.

What happens if you follow these steps?

[Bug 1263477] [NEW] Sync socat 1.7.2.2-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2013-12-22 Thread Artur Rona
Public bug reported:

Please sync socat 1.7.2.2-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * Merge from Debian, remaining changes:
- d/patches/socat-opensslcompress*.patch: Add OpenSSL compression
patches from upstream. (LP: #745603) These are included in 2.0 so
these patches can be dropped when it is synced from Debian.
- d/patches/fix-segfault-xio-gopen.patch: Applying patch to prevent
segfaults. (LP: #481776) This is also included in socat 2.0.

Patches are included upstream.

Changelog entries since current trusty version 1.7.1.3-1.5ubuntu1:

socat (1.7.2.2-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release, fixing CVE-2013-3571 .
  * New maintainer (closes: #717434), fix packaging problems.
  * Update to Standards-Version 3.9.4 , no changes needed.
  * Merge in manpage fixes (closes: #702136).

  [ Bart Martens ba...@debian.org ]
  * Update watch file.

Thanks a lot for caring about this bug, Jörg.

I made a test on Debian 7 where debirf is also used in version 0.33 and
the problem there is a dependency conflict after the xserver package is

following:

application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the

[Bug 1262752] Re: nvidia_304 not blacklisted or removed when nvidia_304_updates is installed.

2013-12-22 Thread Chewbacca
Hi Flames_in_Paradise,

I'll check the dkms status tomorrow, as the affected laptops ( desktops) are
at work.
For myself I was already able to fix the issue by blacklisting nvidia_304 in
the apropriate modprobe.conf file, shipped with nvidia-304-updates.

[Bug 1245979]

2013-12-22 Thread Graeme Hewson
I removed my nVidia card and the driver, and Akonadi starts OK now.

I didn't experience the problems in the other reports in comment 52 of
^C not working in xterm (or Konsole, either).

I have a suspicion that I was mistaken in comment 32 when I said that
Akonadi only started 4 out of 5 times after renaming
/usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.freedesktop.Akonadi.Control.service.
Testing now, I found I wasn't always allowing enough time, so
akonadictl status might say stopped, but a moment later it would say
running.

[Bug 1263326] Re: #VALUE doesn't propagate correctly subtracting text from numbers

2013-12-22 Thread Ray DeCampo
Further research reveals the issue is with formatting, in particular
borders, affecting the value of cells. I will attach a new spreadsheet
demonstrating the issue. I have also filed a bug at LibreOffice:

https://www.libreoffice.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=72969

Steps to reproduce:

See attached spreadsheet (bug-format-affects-value.ods). The first line
has no formatting and behaves as expected. The second line has a border
on cell B2 and the value of that cell is affected.

Current behavior:

Cell C2 displays the value Failed.
If the value of cell B2 is copied and pasted as text the value pasted is
foobar .

Expected behavior:

Cell C2 displays the value Passed like the cell C1.
If the value of cell B2 is copied and pasted as text the value pasted is
foobar.

So k3b settings says:

It would seem to make sense for the k3b to either choose a tmp directory
that exists or to create it itself.

[Bug 342717] Re: fc-cache segfaults when scanning an italic BDF font with empty SETWIDTH_NAME

2013-12-22 Thread Danny Guinther
Related to the security issue, I don't know if the attached font is
segfaulting for the same reason, but I had a session ending segfault
when running fc-cache -fv. I went through the ~3000 custom fonts I have,
and this is the only one I could find that segfaults. Though oddly, the
segfault only killed my gnome-session the first time.

I don't know if it's a fontconfig issue or a gnome issue, but with the
font in a font load path other gnome issues occur as well: If gnome is
locked, the unlock dialog won't appear. If no session exists and you try
to login, the login seems to succeed, but the desktop never loads.
Removing the font resolves these issues.

Running fontconfig version 2.11.0 on Trusty.

** Attachment added: Font that causes a segfault when running fc-cache -fv

[Bug 1240203] Re: package procps 1:3.2.8-11ubuntu6.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2013-12-22 Thread Monish Kumar Desai
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1157643 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1157643

Guys the culprit is the SpiderOak cloud sync software, It is creating the file
/etc/sysctrl.d/30-spideroak.conf with data
fs.inotify.max_user_watches = 65536

As soon as u commment it out, error is gone.

FYI, my cat /proc/sys/fs/inotify/max_user_watches returns
8192
and cat /etc/sysctl.d/*.conf /etc/sysctl.conf | sudo sysctl -p - stops
throwing any error.

Now I am able to successfully upgrade package procps

Hope it helps.

[Bug 1263490] [NEW] Stop applying Binary and Source incompatible patches to ubuntu packages

2013-12-22 Thread Albert Astals Cid
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu is not packaging poppler 0.24.4 because it carries Source and
Binary incompatible changes and thus upstream increased the soversion.

Meanwhile Ubuntu has decided to apply pdftops-origpagesizes-fixes.diff
that is Source and Binary incompatible without caring if it breaks
Source and Binary compatibility and has not cared either about updating
the soversion.

Seems that there is some kind of weird logic here that i do not
understand and Source and Binary compatible changes.

[Bug 1263495] [NEW] rerunning Epiphany 3.10 opens two windows

2013-12-22 Thread Adam Dingle
Public bug reported:

I'm running Trusty with Epiphany 3.10.3, which just landed there.

To see the problem:
1. Launch Epiphany.
2. Exit Epiphany.
3. Launch Epiphany again. Two Epiphany windows will appear. (Usually both are
full size, but sometimes one of them is tiny.)

Actually when you exit Epiphany in step 2 the Epiphany process remains
running in the background. If you kill this process before step 3 then
only one window appears.

I see the same problem if I build Epiphany 3.10.3 from source without
any Ubuntu patches. The problem is no longer present in Epiphany 3.11
in git master, because the Epiphany developers made a change there so
that Epiphany exits immediately: see

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=711409
https://git.gnome.org/browse/epiphany/commit/?id=78e8d7f045396cd753a73f9106e19b3bb3fe5d57

But that change was non-trivial, so it seems unlikely that the GNOME
developers will backport it to the 3.10 branch.

[Bug 1255761] Re: Can't configure country, languages, or spell checker

2013-12-22 Thread Harald Sitter
I think the lesson here is to not use localepurge?

Knut, I suspect parts of your system are still botched because of localepurge,
if you run debsums with sudo it *could* *maybe* give an indication of which
files were altered/removed WRT localization causing issues like the dictionary
names. However that better had been handled in a forum.
Regarding your LANG setting... remove setlocale.sh, then log out, and back in.
LANG should now have the values whatever you installed your system with (e.g.
en_US-UTF-8). Make sure you select an appropriate country setting in
systemsettings. setlocale.sh should be recreated upon saving the changes and
should now be using UTF-8 and the specified country (e.g. es_ES.UTF-8).

Anyway. Moving bug to localepurge. Perhaps that package needs a a couple
of warning signs pointing out that using it is going to break one's
system. Certainly would be handy information.

[Bug 1263498] [NEW] Asus G75VX, can not modify brightness

2013-12-22 Thread David Danneker
Public bug reported:

1. Ubuntu 13.10
2. N: Unable to locate package nvidia-graphics-drivers-319
3. I expected that when I changed the brightness level for my laptop monitor
that the brightness would also change.
4. Instead, the brightness always stays at 100%

I have tried every configuration of grub that I have seen online or been
asked to try on freenode.net #ubuntu by 3 different people. Nothing
seems to fix this problem. The file for the brightness is always updated
but it is like the driver never tells the hardware to change the
brightness.

I have tried Tried :
acpi_backlight=vendor
pcie_aspm=force
acpi_osi='!Windows 2012'

Option RegistryDwords EnableBrightnessControl=1

echo 50 /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
echo 50 /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video1/brightness
echo 50 /sys/class/backlight/asus/brightness

nothing seems to work (the files are of course updated but the monitor
rests at 100% brightness)

I have also tried the XOrg-server and nvidia-304 drivers. They all have
the same result, nothing.

[Bug 1255761] Re: localepurge breaks KDE l10n

2013-12-22 Thread Knut Hildebrandt
Problem SOLVED!

In the error messages from debsums -c I found among others following
entrie:

debsums: missing file /usr/share/locale/l10n/C/entry.desktop (from
kde-runtime-data package)
debsums: missing file /usr/share/locale/l10n/C/flag.png (from kde-runtime-data
package)

Reinstalled kde-runtime-data and everything is back to normal. Even
setlocale.sh now has reasonable entries.

Thanks for your help.

Knut

[Bug 1263499] [NEW] missing dependency: python-spice-client-gtk

2013-12-22 Thread kimj
Public bug reported:

qemu-kvm and, by extension, virt-manager, supports two graphic modes:
vnc and the newer spice.

virt-manager always assumes the presence of a python spice module, and lets the
user select it without checking if system support is indeed present.
This results in an error when trying to control guests: no module named
spiceClientGtk

installing the package python-spice-client-gtk does solve the problem;
my suggestion is to either make it a dependency or patch virt-manager to
only use and display available protocols.

** Affects: virt-manager (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1248287] Re: Apple Wireless Trackpad magicmouse crashes kernel on multitouch

2013-12-22 Thread Baif
Sure I'll try to file a new report for this topic.

Chad Miller, would you mind to share few more. Do you have any chance to
try Apple Magic Mouse, or try to name the track pad with MacOS?

One more to be added is that I found that Apple Magic Mouse in fact
could be programmed to have its own Device Name with MacOS. But Apple
Wireless Trackpad seems does NOT.

My Apple Magic Mouse has its Device Named named with it first paired
with my MBP, but after that I failed to change the Device Name.
Meanwhile, I have never succeeded to name my Apple Wireless Trackpad
with my MBP.

The fact is that, 8 out 10 times, the hci/lsinput/dbus/bluez/kernel etc
found the Device Name of my trackpad is NULL, they took the Product
name everywhere. Rarely, the hci/lsinput/dbuz/bluez/kernel report the
correct Device Name as Apple Wireless Trackpad.

And I think this Device Name in hci/lsinput causes troubles!!! Not
only to kernel, but also version of KDE bluz wizard. If it can not pick
the Device Name it would let you click Next Which is stupid. Thank
god the KDE bluz integration works on Ubuntu, and there is bluetooth-
agent you can use. Firing the bluetooth signal to Fedora 20, cause KDE
Bluetooth help crashes

2013-12-22 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Ritesh Khadgaray, thank you for your testing. I would avoid using the
mainline daily folder as this would be a downstream construct, and
upstream may not be terribly interested in it. Given you tested
v3.13-rc3, this would be fine.

Despite this, would you mind testing a 3.2.x Ubuntu kernel series for
regression purposes following

I've just upgraded to Ubuntu 13.10. This morning, I couldn't type my
password in at the login prompt. It was as if the keyboard was not
being recognized. I verified that there was a prompt in the password
box, so it's not an input focus issue.

What's interesting is that if I hit Capslock, a capslock warning icon
appears in the password box, so obviously the keyboard is functioning,
but just not allowing me to type my password in.

[Workaround] However, if I mouse click on the on-screen keyboard icon at
the top of the screen (the icon's shaped like a little man), and then
click back on the password box, keyboard input is recognized and I can
finally type my password in.

Once logged in, the keyboard works fine.

I think this is not a keyboard driver issue, but a login screen issue.

weird bug.

Does this only happen in the list view? Anyways, I'll look into it.

2013-12-22 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Allan Crooks, thank you for performing the requested tests. The next
step would be to fully commit bisect from 3.5.0-30 to 3.5.0-31, in order
to find the offending commit. Could you please do this following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#Commit_bisecting_Ubuntu_kernel_versions
?

[Bug 1227440] Re: Nautilus' Format option doesn't actually work

2013-12-22 Thread Adam Dingle
This is still broken in Trusty.

Nautilus is invoking gnome-disks like this:

gnome-disks --block-device /dev/sdb1 --format-device --xid 39846040

I believe the problem is actually in gnome-disks, not Nautilus. When I
launch gnome-disks directly and attempt to format either a single
partition of a USB stick or the whole drive, the format does nothing and
I see an error message like this:

Error formatting disk
Error synchronizing after initial wipe: Timed out waiting for object
(udisks-error-quark, 0)

[Bug 1263487] Re: can`t upgrade my ubuntu to 13.10

2013-12-22 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Reviewing the files from your upgrade attempt you seem to have enabled
the xorg-edgers-ppa. This will prevent the upgrade as that PPA contains
different versions of packages essential to Ubuntu. The page,
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa, contains details on to
how to revert to the official Xorg packages. Thanks

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you

2013-12-22 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Nazar Mokrynskyi, thank you for your comment. Given how your issue is resolved
removing fglrx, this wouldn't be considered the same bug. Hence, so your
hardware may be tracked, could you please file a new report by executing the
following in a terminal while booted into a Ubuntu repository kernel (not a
mainline one) via:
ubuntu-bug linux

For more on this, please read the official Ubuntu documentation:
