[Bug 547249] Re: Move the web interface to a separate package to remove apache dependance
I think the context here is that the configuration can be bit of a run- around. Correctly enough, the mailman support list says to contact Ubuntu for support with configuration problems...this is the context of the bug request -- at least for me. Installing mailman, and configuring it for a web interface are two different things. I appreciate that for current releases it might be onerous, but for future releases, this would be a good idea. Seperation of concern. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to mailman in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/547249 Title: Move the web interface to a separate package to remove apache dependance To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mailman/+bug/547249/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1266163] [NEW] Apt Install-Recommends set to false
Public bug reported: Ok, first of, i'm in Linux Mint, but as far as i can see, its using the same ubuntu apt package. So the same problem should still be there with Ubuntu, please correct me if i'm wrong. Before going further, maybe someone could confirm the content of /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/00recommends, and look for any other ??recommends files. I would like to know if there is a difference when installing from Ubuntu Server and Ubuntu Desktop. i might end up installing both to check but i would like to avoid it if possible. I understand that there might be a reason why this being set to false might be a good thing in Ubuntu Server for example. But its definitly bad for a Desktop system. Here is an example, installing pipelight from their ppa. With Install- Recommends to false you get a bug when using dual screen because with the missing xinerama lib, wine gets the wrong screen size and you get only half of the image when in fullscreen. So, why not just put the xinerama lib as a dependency instead of a recommend on the pipelight package? Because it would be wrong. If we look at http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/debian-faq/ch- pkg_basics.en.html#s-depends for a clue of what recommends are, recommends are the package that are NOT absolutely needed for the package to be installed and run, but that most users would want to have. So in the light of that, i strongly think that having Recommends set to False by default is bad. Someone installing a server would more likely be capable of setting this to false himself than a simple desktop user would be to find out why somepackage is not working as intended because of a missing recommended package. ** Affects: apt (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1266163 Title: Apt Install-Recommends set to false To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/1266163/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1096520] Re: lvm2 hangs when creating snapshot of live root and IO to the root filesystem is happening
OK, on a non-luks encrypted bog-standard lvm2 install of the latest trusty tahr. Note: the original bug was already solved. The case where the output of the lv-snapshot creation is directed to a file on the volume being snapshotted is a mixed bag with the latest trusty tahr. To install: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:attente/modifier-only-input-switch sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade (log out, log in) If the packages improve the situation for you, you can pin them using: sudo apt-mark hold compiz sudo apt-mark hold gnome-settings-daemon sudo apt-mark hold unity If the packages don't work for you, you can purge them using: sudo ppa-purge ppa:attente/modifier-only-input-switch === compiz === Impact: modifier-only key bindings need to be independent of key-press order, there's no support for double tapping two modifier keys of the same type Test case: - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry settings - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift: gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source ['PrimaryShift_L'] - holding left shift, press and release ctrl - the current input source should change Regression potential: possible, but highly unlikely, that some key bindings may be triggered due to the removal of some code that would normally prevent a possible tap from occurring. === unity === Impact: gnome-settings-daemon eats modifier-only shortcuts preventing them from propagating down to applications Test case: - open gnome-control-center's text input settings - set the next input source key binding to ctrl+left shift - open gnome-terminal - press ctrl+shift+t - gnome-terminal should open a new tab Regression potential: the additional input switch key bindings could collide with other functionality such as opening the dash or hud === gnome-control-center === Impact: the UI to change the layout switching keys doesn't work Test case: - open gnome-control-center's text input settings - click on the next layout key entry - try entering a key combinaison (e.g ctrl-space) - the UI should reflect the new keys Regression potential: that UI was not working before, it should only be an improvement (some key combos are not working as expected, that's another issue and shouldn't be mixed with this one) === gnome-settings-daemon === Impact: attempting to change keyboard layouts using only modifier keys doesn't work Test case: - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry settings - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift: gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source ['PrimaryShift_L'] - press and release ctrl+left shift - the current input source should change Regression potential: The input switching shortcut might capture other non-modifier shortcuts, but users will need to consider this when choosing their switching shortcut anyways. For users this bug affects, this represents a working solution for a critical bug. -- Test results for different keyboard layout change hotkeys may be viewed and added in the Google Docs table, created by Norbert (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ao5e713Ig9g_dEJrX2NRYlpLWWVzSWxsVXU4ck9HYVEusp=sharing). -- Separate bug reports for individual layout switching hotkey combinations: Super+Space and Shift+Super+Space: * Unity greeter (bug 1245137); * Unity session (bug 1245136); * lock screen - gnome-screensaver (bug 1245138, bug 1245256); * ubiquity installer (bug 1242572). [Bug 1247668] Re: NumLock turned off on layout switch
I also experienced this weird NumLock state described by Egmont (5 is a digit, the rest are cursor keys). I only use one keyboard layout (Hungarian) and don't want to switch it to any other, thus I deleted the English one in the System Settings / Text Entry. But after startup my keyboard layout is mostly set to English (which is also described by others, e.g. http://askubuntu.com/questions/362973/keyboard-layout-switches-to-english-each-time-i-reboot). Setxkbmap shows the following: $ setxkbmap -query rules: evdev model: pc105 layout: us So I have to manually switch to Hungarian either by 1.) clicking on the only Hungarian item in the keyboard indicator, (Setxkbmap shows: rules: evdev model: pc105 layout: hu,us variant:, ) 2.) or entering setxkbmap hu in the terminal. (Setxkbmap shows: rules: evdev model: pc105 layout: hu ) But after this and using any modifier key (e.g. switching tasks with Alt+Tab or switching desktops with Ctrl+Alt+cursors) I face the mentioned inconsistent numpad state. BTW numlockx says: $ numlockx status Numlock is on Since I have to do the layout switching only once after startup I overcame this faulty behavior with a script starting automatically after login, as follows: #!/bin/sh setxkbmap hu numlockx off numlockx on -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1247668 Title: NumLock turned off on layout switch To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1247668/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1241758] Re: ReiserFS support removed from Ubuntu 13.10 installer = not even possible to mount existing partitions
I am a third complainer. Luckily, I decided to try 13.10 on a spare laptop. I concur with the useless description. I am currently running on 12.04 which is increasingly showing its age: there are problems with system settings and the KDE community are ignoring problems with the older facilities (in particular, printer registration), so an upgrade is essential. There are issues with LibreOffice 3.5 which are beginning to force the issue. The creation of the /home directory in the root partition renders the installation as completely unuseable. Who was the bright spark who took such a daft decision? A partition tool is not needed when the disks are already set up; all that is needed are the reiser kernel modules! (reiserfs.ko is a mere 280.2kB!). Another oversight is the lack of synaptic -- muon, as its name seems to imply, is truly moronic! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1241758 Title: ReiserFS support removed from Ubuntu 13.10 installer = not even possible to mount existing partitions To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/partman-partitioning/+bug/1241758/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1266186] [NEW] Touchpad not detected anymore in 'HP ChromeBook 14-q030ef' after the kernel upgrade
Public bug reported: My laptop touchpad stopped working after a kernel upgrade 2 days ago, it worked correctly before that. I didn't find any shortcut to enable/disable it, and since it's a chromebook, it doesn't have a BIOS. Also, the touchpad works when I boot on ChromeOS. My mouse still works. [Bug 1258837] Re: [Dell Latitude E7440] ALPS touchpad keeps having state reset
Would it be fair to say that this issue should be raised directly with the gmane.linux.kernel.input group to make progress? @Carl W - You might possibly find the tip in comment 5 useful to stop the jumpiness of the pointer. [Bug 1266190] [NEW] partman fails to overwrite an already existing filesystem with btrfs
Public bug reported: When trying the current daily install image for Kubuntu 14.04 I found that when I tried to overwrite an old install that had ext4 on /dev/sda6 with a new one with btrfs on /dev/sda6 it would keep telling me that the creation of /dev/sda6 had failed. Looking at /var/log/syslog it's because mkfs.btrfs is detecting the existence of an ext4 filesystem and refusing to overwrite it unless it is passed the -f flag. [Bug 1266163] Re: Apt Install-Recommends set to false
It's indeed silly to disable recommends, but many people insist on doing it instead of insisting on package maintainers to use recommends properly for the benefit of all. APT installs recommends since Debian Lenny (no idea what animal that would be in Ubuntu) by default. Especially, it isn't shipping a 00recommends file. That is a file either shipped by another package or created by you (or via one of those crappy install scripts floating around the web). If it's from a package dpkg -S /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/00recommends will tell you which package it is. If not, all bets are of and you have to remember what you did in the past. Whoever created that file, you should complain about it – and feel free to add that apt upstream is not amused about that as well – but as it isn't shipped by apt, so we are the wrong receiver, and I am therefore closing this report here. ** Changed in: apt (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1266163 Title: Apt Install-Recommends set to false To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/1266163/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
