[Bug 1357877] [NEW] cannot disable date and time notification

2014-08-17 Thread Bronsen
Public bug reported:

I want to disable the notifications for date and time because they take
too much space on the status line. However, unticking them via 'F9 -
Toggle status notifications' does not make them go away. All other
notifications do not show up when I untick them in the dialog.

In ~/.byobu/status I see 'date' and 'time' as deactivated for the active
'tmux_right' setting.

My current workaround involves editing ~/.byobu/datetime.tmux and
setting those variables to .

I have Ubuntu 14.04.1 and byobu 5.77-0ubuntu1.2. My default shell is set to
fish if that makes a difference (it does for vundle).

[Bug 1357880] [NEW] /etc/logcheck/ignore.d.server/dhclient needs updated regex

2014-08-17 Thread Thorsten Rhau
Public bug reported:

The regex on line 12 in /etc/logcheck/ignore.d.server/dhclient needs
updating since it does not match the current output from dhclient

The current line (12) as included in version 1.3.16 of logcheck-database looks
like this:
^\w{3} [ :0-9]{11} [._[:alnum:]-]+ dhclient(-2.2.x)?: DHCP(REQUEST|RELEASE) (of
[.0-9]{7,15} )?on [[:alnum:].-]+ to [.0-9]{7,15} port 67$

The line should look something like this is order to match the current outpt
format of dhclient:
 ^\w{3} [ :0-9]{11} [._[:alnum:]-]+ dhclient(-2.2.x)?(\[[[:digit:]]+\])?:
DHCP(REQUEST|RELEASE) (of [.0-9]{7,15} )?on [[:alnum:].]+ to [.0-9]{7,15} por
 t 67( \(xid=0x[0-9a-f]+\))?$

This has been observed on a fresh install of ubuntu server 14.04.1 (no upgrades
from previous versions).

Procedure to reproduce:
- Install system that has at least one interface running dhcpclient
- Wait for dhclient to request or renew it's ip lease
- Wait for logwatch to run and send out its notification

[Bug 1357863] Re: gitk won't start: unknown color name

2014-08-17 Thread Ade Malsasa Akbar
This problem was solved a few minutes ago.

I followed this bug report on Red Hat Bugzilla:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1043686. In there, I
should do clearing out the X resources:

1) xrdb -load /dev/null (xrdb is X server resource database utility
from manpage)

2) xrdb -query

3) wish (wish is a Tk simple windowing shell application from manpage,
probably invoked for testing purpose only here)

4) I should uncheck KDE System Settings - Application Appearance -
Colors - Options - Apply colors to non-KDE4 applications. Yes I
use KDE, and I have not mentioned it before. I am sorry. In KDE 4.10 of mine, I
don't need to relogin.

Now gitk runs well again.

[Bug 1164780] Re: Google account login is asked again and again

2014-08-17 Thread tagMacher
1. This affects my machines running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64-bit. It is a
problem with Google account alone - Microsoft Live, Facebook and Twitter
accounts linked are remembered. I too have Google's 2-stage validation
enabled.

2. At the first login in April, I had authorised with Google's two-stage
login. This problem has started possibly with an update (Ubuntu or
Google) sometime in July 2014.

3. The other clue is that I do not get Google's login page as I had at
the first time entry in April; instead I get two simple textboxes for
username (filled-in with my GMail address and grayed), and one for
password entry, with Ok, Cancel buttons.

Please let me know how I can provide technical inormation on this bug.

[Bug 1272777] Re: Elantech touchpads not fully supported for some Gigabyte laptops

2014-08-17 Thread nicobrainless
Just in case someone experience the same issue than me (or probably same than
Dave earlier too), i.e. the touchpad is recognized by the new kernel, but then
stops working again...
I installed 3.16-1 and the problem persisted.
However, I just realized that I still had some psmouse dkms module installed
from a previous try at fixing the issue.

I just ran:
quote sudo dkms remove -m psmouse -v elantech-x551c --all
sudo rmmod psmouse
sudo modprobe psmouse/quote
And the scrolling is miraculously back!

Let's just hope it persists after reboot.
No one else has complained in a while... maybe this bug should be tagged as
fixed?

[Bug 1357876] [NEW] man of gphoto2 says '-q' works as '--quiet', but it doesn't

2014-08-17 Thread Aapo Rantalainen
Public bug reported:

gphoto2 2.5.3

Man says that 'q and --quiet are the same:
man gphoto2 | grep quiet
 -q, --quiet

gphoto2 -q

gphoto2 --quiet

[Bug 1357877] [NEW] cannot disable date and time notification

2014-08-17 Thread Bronsen
Public bug reported:

I want to disable the notifications for date and time because they take
too much space on the status line. However, unticking them via 'F9 -
Toggle status notifications' does not make them go away. All other
notifications do not show up when I untick them in the dialog.

In ~/.byobu/status I see 'date' and 'time' as deactivated for the active
'tmux_right' setting.

My current workaround involves editing ~/.byobu/datetime.tmux and
setting those variables to .

I have Ubuntu 14.04.1 and byobu 5.77-0ubuntu1.2. My default shell is set to
fish if that makes a difference (it does for vundle).

[Bug 1357880] [NEW] /etc/logcheck/ignore.d.server/dhclient needs updated regex

2014-08-17 Thread Thorsten Rhau
Public bug reported:

The regex on line 12 in /etc/logcheck/ignore.d.server/dhclient needs
updating since it does not match the current output from dhclient

The current line (12) as included in version 1.3.16 of logcheck-database looks
like this:
^\w{3} [ :0-9]{11} [._[:alnum:]-]+ dhclient(-2.2.x)?: DHCP(REQUEST|RELEASE) (of
[.0-9]{7,15} )?on [[:alnum:].-]+ to [.0-9]{7,15} port 67$

The line should look something like this is order to match the current outpt
format of dhclient:
 ^\w{3} [ :0-9]{11} [._[:alnum:]-]+ dhclient(-2.2.x)?(\[[[:digit:]]+\])?:
DHCP(REQUEST|RELEASE) (of [.0-9]{7,15} )?on [[:alnum:].]+ to [.0-9]{7,15} por
 t 67( \(xid=0x[0-9a-f]+\))?$

This has been observed on a fresh install of ubuntu server 14.04.1 (no upgrades
from previous versions).

Procedure to reproduce:
- Install system that has at least one interface running dhcpclient
- Wait for dhclient to request or renew it's ip lease
- Wait for logwatch to run and send out its notification

[Bug 1357871] Re: Boot to kernel higher then 3.13.0.29

2014-08-17 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1357871/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1288747] Re: [334] Parts of the UI randomly flicker when moving the mouse

Well, it's been 6 days since I installed the patch and now I'm getting
window resizing and window moving issues intermittently. I have checked
CompizConfig and all Window Management Settings are checked. I
reinstalled the patch but no change. Is there any benefit to installing
the Nvidia driver 343.13?

[Bug 1132033] Re: Gnome-Shell activities shows black background

2014-08-17 Thread Majal
WORKAROUND for me (Ubuntu 14.04.1, Gnome 3.10, vanilla):

After logging in, as expected Overview background is broken, or
sometimes Overview BK updates wallpapers but not the main wallpaper.
Sometimes, Overview is just black. This is what I do:

In Gnome Tweak Tool → Desktop → Icons on Desktop → Off ... Then, → On.
(This is related to Nautilus handling the desktop.)

After the cycle all goes well. That is, until I log out and log in
again.

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=noplymounth and update-grub did not work.
BTW, is there typo in post #11 ? I used noplymouth in my /etc/default/grub

GRUB_TERMINAL=console did not work either.

Otherwise boots normally (except for complaining on ACPI, but it is
another story).

to test this try:

this fix will probably work.

[Bug 1357910] [NEW] Gnome Shell 3.10.4 on Ubuntu 14.04.1 Does Not Lock Screen After Resume From Suspend or Hibernate

2014-08-17 Thread Majal
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

I recently installed a fresh 14.04.1 system (with a separate partition
for the /home directory from 12.04). As expected bugs and tweaks here
and there are present but with the help of forums, I was able to solve
them one by one. There are just a few now remaining but this one looks
critical and there seems to be no answer from the forums: gnome-shell
does not lock (no passwords asked) after resuming from either suspend or
hibernate. I checked all the settings, gconf, dconf, Settings Privacy
 Lock Screen on Suspend.

I suspend / hibernate, then resume / thaw, and the desktop directly goes
to my user, no locking has happened.

WORKAROUND:

After the first login, I lock the screen, eg Ctrl + Alt + L. Lock screen
works. Then I suspend / hibernate, then resume / thaw: Lock screen works
again. So in order for the Lock to work, I had to do an initial Ctrl +
Alt + L.

[Bug 1357920] [NEW] Xerox Phaser 8560DN reboots as soon as I bring up the Print requester

2014-08-17 Thread Øyvind Harboe
Public bug reported:

With Ubuntu 14, the Xerox Phaser 8560DN resets as soon as I bring up the
Print requester. Up until Ubuntu 14, the Xerox printer worked with
Ubuntu. It works fine from Windows.

The strange thing is that the Xerox printer manages to crash when I
bring up the Printer requester even if I don't have the Xerox printer
added to the list of printers.

I've increased the memory on our Phaser 8560DN to 1 gig to solve the
problem without luck:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/405851

I tried contacting Xerox, but they no longer care if Linux works or not.
If it works from Windows, it's not their problem.

The obvious solution is to throw out the Xerox printer and never buy one
again :-)

[Bug 1357920] Re: Xerox Phaser 8560DN reboots as soon as I bring up the Print requester

2014-08-17 Thread Øyvind Harboe
I tried purging cups and resinstalling, including deleting
/etc/init.d/cups/printers.config* and have *no* printers added to the
system.

*STILL* the Xerox printer reboots. This is very annoying because, it
means that I can't even print to PDF and then print that PDF from
Windows without the printer rebooting.

Here's how I purged and reinstalled cups:

sudo apt-get purge cups sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install cups

[Bug 1357922] [NEW] active shadow is visible underneath inactive shadow on inactive windows

2014-08-17 Thread Artem Gabrielyan
Public bug reported:

I have shadows enabled both for active and inactive windows. Both of
white colour; active is 16 in radius, inactive is 8. There is a bug in
drawing inactive shadow on inactive window, because traces of active
shadow are still visible from underbeath the inactive shadow.

how to reproduce:
- open a window (regular window with borders and shadows enabled)
- click outside the window (for example, on desktop)
- the window becomes inactive, its border becomes inactive, inactive shadow is
displayed, but traces of active shadow are still visible

Active shadow (or its traces) should not be visible on inactive windows

It doesn't happen all the time. Sometimes inactive window and its
shadows are displayed correctly, sometimes shadows are correctly
displayed only on a part of inactive window's border, as shown in
attached image.

[Bug 1357926] [NEW] do-release-upgrade cannot be launched from screen

2014-08-17 Thread Sebo
Public bug reported:

When `do-release-upgrade` is started from a `screen` terminal it ignores
this and runs its own `screen` inside.

I would expect the software to check if it is allready runned inside the
screen and if so just do not start its own.

That would not harm... however the result is that output encoded two times by
the `screen` app is unredable and looks just like below:

[Bug 1357928] [NEW] [HDA-Intel - HDA Intel MID, playback] volume slider problem - Slide to bottom and sound stays off even when slider moved up again

2014-08-17 Thread B.J. Herbison
Public bug reported:

The Audio Mixer panel widget slider (current version) has no mute
checkbox. The 12.04 version had a mute checkbox in addition to the
slider.

When the slider is moved to the bottom, everything is muted: Master,
Headphone, Speaker, PCM. Move the slider up and only Master is unmuted.

My computer has three hardware buttons for audio. The mute/unmute mutes
but never unmutes. Same issue.

Known problem: http://askubuntu.com/questions/397819/ubuntu-13-10-and-
xfce4-no-sound-at-all

With 2012.04 I could just uncheck the mute button and things were back
to normal. Now I need to open Audio Mixer and unmute everything.

(It also appears I need to unmute the Headphones to hear sounds from the
internal speakers.)

As someone who works in an environment where I regularly need to mute
this behavior is very annoying.

1) The volume sliders should never mute.
2) There should be a mute checkbox.
3) The unmute options should unmute everything which was muted.

[Bug 1332165] Re: udevd --daemon does not close stdout

2014-08-17 Thread Brian Candler
The problem was reported against 12.04, and as far as I can see no fix
has been released.

Now, the problem in #1287943 / #1332155 still continues. That is:

# /usr/sbin/debootstrap --arch=i386 trusty /tmp/tmpBQAxhc
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu | strace cat db.out

hangs at the step I: Base system installed success, until the udev
--daemon process is killed manually.

However, repeating the test you gave, I see:

# udevd --daemon
# ps auxwww | grep udev
root 335 0.0 0.1 17236 640 ?S11:47 0:00

lrwx-- 1 root root 64 Aug 17 11:58 9 - socket:[26494]

That is, it does appear that FDs 0/1/2 are all redirected to /dev/null
when udevd is run manually.

ppid of 16551 is 1.

If I repeat the debootstrap test, I find at the point it is hanging:

$ sudo ls -l /proc/27648/fd/
total 0
lrwx-- 1 root root 64 Aug 17 12:05 0 - /tmp/tmpBQAxhc/dev/null
lrwx-- 1 root root 64 Aug 17 12:05 1 - /tmp/tmpBQAxhc/dev/null

lrwx-- 1 root root 64 Aug 17 12:05 11 - socket:[37454]
lr-x-- 1 root root 64 Aug 17 12:05 12 - /tmp/tmpBQAxhc/lib/udev/hwdb.bin
lrwx-- 1 root root 64 Aug 17 12:05 13 - anon_inode:[eventpoll]
lrwx-- 1 root root 64 Aug 17 12:05 2 - /tmp/tmpBQAxhc/dev/null
lrwx-- 1 root root 64 Aug 17 12:05 3 - socket:[37449]
l-wx-- 1 root root 64 Aug 17 12:05 4 - pipe:[27311]
lrwx-- 1 root root 64 Aug 17 12:05 5 - socket:[37450]
lrwx-- 1 root root 64 Aug 17 12:05 6 - /tmp/tmpBQAxhc/run/udev/queue.bin
l-wx-- 1 root root 64 Aug 17 12:05 7 - /tmp/tmpBQAxhc/var/log/bootstrap.log
lr-x-- 1 root root 64 Aug 17 12:05 8 - anon_inode:inotify
lrwx-- 1 root root 64 Aug 17 12:05 9 - anon_inode:[signalfd]

So FDs 0/1/2 are all pointed to /dev/null within the chroot environment.

And finally, the following python script *does not* hang:

import subprocess
subprocess.call([/sbin/udevd, --daemon],
stdout=subprocess.PIPE,
stderr=subprocess.PIPE)

So something more subtle is happening. debootstrap is doing *something*
to run udevd --daemon in a way that it hangs waiting for it to
terminate, but it's not just waiting for FD 0/1/2 to close.

[Bug 1357928] Re: [HDA-Intel - HDA Intel MID, playback] volume slider problem - Slide to bottom and sound stays off even when slider moved up again

2014-08-17 Thread B.J. Herbison
does it support 5.1 since there are three jacks at same location (ext
left) on your notebook ?

Three separate jacks, one labeled with a microphone and two labeled with
headphone images.

is it dual headphone jacks or headphone and line out ?

It looks like dual headphone. I've never used them, the headsets I've
attached are USB.

do you mean the name of volume control of line out Jack should not pcm
?

I don't understand the question. When I lower the volume mute is automatically
applied to Master, Headphone, Speaker, and PCM (as shown in Audio Mixer
- HDA Intel MID (Alsa mixer). This happens in one of three ways:
1) Pressing quieter(not mute) past a certain point on the computer keyboard.
2) Dropping slider past a certain point in the XFCE panel Audio Mixer widget.
3) Dropping the Master slider past a certain point in Audio Mixer.

In none of these cases do I want mute, I want the sound back when I move
the slider up or press louder. I shouldn't have to run the full Audio
Mixer and click four buttons and move a slider before sound appears.

I am only concerned with the sound sent to the internal speakers.
However, I just checked and I do need to unmute all four places
(including Headphone and Speakers) before sound comes out of the
internal speakers.

2014-08-17 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that a package failed to install due to a segmentation fault in
the application being used for the package installation process.
Unfortunately, this bug report isn't very useful in its current state
and a crash report would be much more useful. Could you try recreating
this issue by enabling apport to catch the crash report 'sudo service
apport start force_start=1' and then trying to install the same package
again? This process will create a new bug report so I am marking this
one as Invalid. Thanks again for helping out!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]
