[Bug 1414124] Re: install reports unable to install grub to /dev/sdb
And now just tried to /dev/sdb and it works: sudo grub-install --root- directory=/media/kubuntu/5e9eb943-238e-451f-b029-18b24bdaac0c/ /dev/sdb Installing for i386-pc platform. Installation finished. [Bug 1414349] [NEW] Kernel Oops - unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 00000004; EIP is at drm_mm_remove_node+0x51/0xf0 [drm]
Public bug reported: My laptop has a kernel problem with the Ubuntu 14.10 live disk. The Kernel reports constantly about a NULL pointer reference. Sometimes the X-server and the Unity desktop is started, but the UI freezes constantly for a few seconds. It often ends with a complete freeze of the computer. Other times the computer freezes before the desktop was loaded. This bug report was created with the information of the Ubuntu 14.10 32bit live disk, but I also encountered the same problem with the Ubuntu 14.10 64bit live disk. I think it could be the radeon driver for my ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650. This will (hopefully) gather information on your system hardware and software configuration and attach it to this bug for further analysis. ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1414230 Title: v14.04 screen garbled upon restart with external monitor Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I have installed Ubuntu 14.04 on a Acer Aspire One 722. Everything works fine on the laptop by itself. But if I connect the laptop to an external monitor (a HDTV in this instance) via a HDMI cable, the display on the laptop screen and on the external monitor work fine: 1) until I close the screen of the laptop while the laptp is still on, let it go to sleep, and then open the screen and restart. At that point the laptop and external montor screens are black with some garbled characters. There is no way to recover the laptop but shut it down and perform a cold boot. 2) and continue to do so if I use the suspend command (from the drop down menu from the top right corner of the screen). The laptop and the external monitor go dark when the computer suspends. Upon waking both the laptop screen and the external monitor work fine. Needless to say closing the lid after using the suspend command makes no difference. Any clues on what could be happening when I close the lid of the laptop to suspend the laptop? [Bug 1414372] [NEW] Ekiga DTMF tones don't work during call and very slow to dial out

I've also noticed that on both machines it's Ekiga is extremely slow to dial out and sometimes it refuses to dial out altogether. Configuration of audio input and output is also a real chore regardless if I'm using an old style 3.5mm headset plug or usb headset. Sometimes, I can plug in and call right then. [Bug 1257706] Re: gpg-agent environment variables not correctly exported
gnupg2 is not in main, ubuntu uses gnupg1 by default. in vivid, and being fixed in sru's for trusty and utopic, upstart is managing user session and launching gnupg-agent (either gnupg1 or gnome-keyring), ditto ssh-agent (either gnupg1 or gnome-keyring). To integrate this correctly, support should be added to ssh-agent/gnome- keyring-ssh gpg-agent/gnome-keyring-gpg to support third alternative, that is gnupg2's gpg-agent and gnupg2's ssh-agent. Patches against that are welcome. With respect to gpg smartcard, on my machine i've copied gnupg- agent.conf job into ~/.config/upstart/ an tweaked it to export ssh-agent vairable, and also did echo manual ~/.config/upstart/ssh- agent.override and thus i'm using gnupg gpg-agent for both ssh gpg authentication. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1257706 Title: gpg-agent environment variables not correctly exported To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnupg2/+bug/1257706/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it seems that there is a problem with your installation media (CD/DVD). You can verify the integrity of the Ubuntu ISO files you downloaded by following the instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM. You might also retry your installation with new media. In the event that is is not in fact an error with your installation media please set the bug's status back to New. Thanks and good luck! [Bug 1414124] Re: install reports unable to install grub to /dev/sdb
Ok, so I wrote 0's to /dev/sda/ and then rebooted into lubuntu test iso (on an usb) and told it to erase install to /dev/sdb. Just nearing completion, I get popup: Unable to install GRUB in /dev/sda with text Executing 'grub-install /dev/sda' failed. This is a fatal error. and then lubuntu presented me with recourse to select other drive to install bootloader to, so I tried sdb, but then get same popup for sdb Unable to install GRUB in /dev/sdb with text Executing 'grub-install /dev/sdb' failed. This is a fatal error. I've attached the syslog. So I think there is definately a bug with installing any ubuntu into sdb when there is a blank partition table on sda. [Bug 1414345] [NEW] Audacious stops playing audio when outside of tty/term
Public bug reported: For the past few months, occasionally audacious stops playing audio. The program itself is responsive, but attempting to hit play results in no audio being played, and the timer for the particular track played to stay at 0:00. Exiting audacious doesn't help, though killing pulseaudio/ and forcefully reloading alsa via alsa force reload does. Today I noticed that if I change to the terminal via Alt-Ctrl-F1, the sound starts playing and remains playing so long as I'm away from Xorg, whereupon it stops playing when I return. pulseaudio: Installed: 1:4.0-0ubuntu22 Candidate: 1:4.0-0ubuntu22 Version table: *** 1:4.0-0ubuntu22 0 500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ vivid/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status alsa-base: Installed: 1.0.25+dfsg-0ubuntu4 Candidate: 1.0.25+dfsg-0ubuntu4 Version table: *** 1.0.25+dfsg-0ubuntu4 0 500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ vivid/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status audacious: Installed: 3.5-2 Candidate: 3.5-2 Version table: *** 3.5-2 0 500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ vivid/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status xorg: Installed: 1:7.7+7ubuntu2 Candidate: 1:7.7+7ubuntu2 Version table: *** 1:7.7+7ubuntu2 0 500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ vivid/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Linux Hedy 3.18.0-9-generic #10-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jan 12 21:41:54 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=15.04 DISTRIB_CODENAME=vivid DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu Vivid Vervet (development branch) ** Affects: audacious (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1414345 Title: Audacious stops playing audio when outside of tty/term To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/audacious/+bug/1414345/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Bump! Fresh install of Ubuntu Studio 14.10, same Orage problem displaying the wrong language and calendar format. No settings within Orage that can be changed to correct this, and deleting extra firefox dictionaries didn't solve the problem. [Bug 1307545] Re: Power Manager settings are ignored when closing laptop lid
Yes, we know this. The logjnd-handle-lid-switch property is being used as fix for the blank screen bug. If logind handles the lid event, it will send two separate signals which control light-locker (lock session before suspend, switch to unlock screen on resume). Ah, I suspected something of the kind. Here is a summary of the issues (as I understand it): The vt switching by light-locker (or rather lightdm) is the root cause for two issues, which were attributed to xfpm, but have nothing to do with xfpm: 1) system suspends in certain situations, although xfpm is configured not to suspend in those situations 2) in certain situations the screen stays switched off after unlocking Besides the trivial case for 1), cf. comment #48, both issues arise, if the lid is closed when the vt switch happens. If we call the user session vt1 and the unlock screen session vt2, the event chains look (approximately) as followed: 1) lid close on vt1 - xfpm blocks logind and executes as configured - screen locks and switches to vt2 - vt2 has no logind inhibitor log - logind suspends the system. 2) lid close on vt1 - xserver (?) switches the screen off for vt1 - screen locks and switches to vt2 - user wants to unlock - screen gets switched on on current active sesion, i.e vt2 - authentication - switch to vt1 - turned off screen, because on vt1 it was never switched on again If this analysis is correct, we have two approaches to solve both issues: a) adapt light-locker to never make a vt switch while the lid is closed. That would be something like making late-locking a general behavior. b) adapt light-locker (or maybe even lightdm) to tackle each problem on its own. E.g. the unlock screen session needs an inhibitor lock too and possibly turn on the screen of the session it switches to after unlocking. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1307545 Title: Power Manager settings are ignored when closing laptop lid To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-power-manager/+bug/1307545/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1414124] Re: install reports unable to install grub to /dev/sdb
I went ahead and used gnome-disk-utility to create 1tb ext4 partition on /dev/sda then retried: sudo grub-install --root-directory=/media/kubuntu/5e9eb943-238e-451f-b029-18b24bdaac0c/ /dev/sda Installing for i386-pc platform. grub-install: warning: File system `ext2' doesn't support embedding. grub-install: error: embedding is not possible, but this is required for cross-disk install. Then used gnome-disk-utility to create a gpt partition on /dev/sda then retried: sudo grub-install --root-directory=/media/kubuntu/5e9eb943-238e-451f-b029-18b24bdaac0c/ /dev/sda Installing for i386-pc platform. grub-install: error: unable to identify a filesystem in hostdisk//dev/sda; safety check can't be performed. Then creted mbr on /dev/sda then retried: sudo grub-install --root-directory=/media/kubuntu/5e9eb943-238e-451f-b029-18b24bdaac0c/ /dev/sda Installing for i386-pc platform. grub-install: error: unable to identify a filesystem in hostdisk//dev/sda; safety check can't be performed. then manually made a partition /dev/sda1 and did sudo mkfs -t ext4 /dev/sda1 and then the grub install succedded: sudo grub-install --root-directory=/media/kubuntu/5e9eb943-238e-451f-b029-18b24bdaac0c/ /dev/sda Installing for i386-pc platform. Installation finished. No error reported. So I'm thinking now that grub's earlier refusal to install on the blank /dev/sda is a deliberate feature, in which case the problem is really with the ubuntu installer in that it won't provide user with a recourse action to install grub on /dev/sdb in the case that the user installs ubuntu to /dev/sdb but has an empty partition table in /dev/sda. I'm going to try a lubuntu testing install onto /dev/sdb with a blank /dev/sda partition table to determie if this issue affects more ubuntus than just kubuntu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1414124 Title: install reports unable to install grub to /dev/sdb To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1414124/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1250196] Re: sane plustek backend not working on USB 3 root hub
I installed sane-backends - 1.0.25-git20150121-precise0 and upgraded libsane, sane-utils and libsane-common but this didn't fix the issue for me. scanimage -L now appears to consistently identify the scanner: device `plustek:libusb:001:019' is a Hewlett-Packard Scanjet 2100c flatbed scanner but issuing a scanimage command just bails out after a few seconds: scanimage -vvv -format pnm outfile.pnm Calling sane_exit scanimage: finished there is no activity from the scanner. When I first raised the bug I'd been playing around with various sources from sane libusb so it's possible something isn't quite linking together but I'm pretty sure I've removed all those remnants from the /usr/local area and everything now appears to be linking to the correct (ie. in the /usr/lib/x86...) area. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1250196 Title: sane plustek backend not working on USB 3 root hub To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sane-backends/+bug/1250196/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
