[Bug 1430261] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2015-04-01 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From pavsu...@in.ibm.com 2015-04-01 06:33 EDT---
I have done a fresh installation on P8 machine with Ubuntu 15.04 netboot latest
images downloaded from the link:
http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/dists/vivid/main/installer-ppc64el/current/images/netboot/netboot.tar.gz

I have copied them to our HTTP repo server and then in the target
machine I rebooted to petitboot menu and gave the vmlinux and initrd.gz
images and booted from those.

Then the installation proceeded normally and succeeded without any
issues.

[Bug 1439027] [NEW] J.4.7 Linux vs. GNU/Linux

2015-04-01 Thread themusicgod1
Public bug reported:

1)

Linux, for example, is a far superior operating system than DOS
precisely because it draws on the collective experience, skill and
knowledge of thousands of developers

Linux is a kernel, not an OS. The OS is GNU/Linux. Also, who uses DOS
anymore?

GNU/Linux, for example, is a far superior operating system than Windows
precisely because it draws on the collective experience, skill and
knowledge of thousands of developers

2)

Apache, the most popular web-server, is another freeware product and is
acknowledged as the best available. The same can be said of other key
web-technologies (most obviously PHP)

Apache isn't freeware it's free software -- a vital difference being
the availability of the source code under a free software license.
Also web-technologies is kind of too general.

Apache, the most popular web-server, is another free software project
and is acknowledged as the best available. The same can be said of other
key web-related software (most obviously PHP)

[Bug 1415958] Re: Laptop + external display does not suspend on lid close

2015-04-01 Thread Martin Pitt
For the record, systemd actually checks for docked/undocked events, so
in a VT you should not actually get this behaviour. Only under Unity,
because unity-settings-daemon doesn't seem to check for dock events in
particular but just checks the connected monitors. Can you confirm this?

2015-04-01 Thread Steve Beattie
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

2015-04-01 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 1438976] Re: Lock Security - Passcode and Passphrase input field: selectall/cut/copy entry should not be available

We have bug 1424588 to implement a context menu API. I'd prefer to
expose an API rather than simply the internal TextInputPopover we have,
and that would allow fixing this bug by easily hiding certain actions
(or adding new ones even).

[Bug 1415958] Re: Laptop + external display does not suspend on lid close

2015-04-01 Thread Martin Pitt
I meant that when you dock or undock a laptop you get a particular evdev
event (SW_DOCK), which logind checks for. This tells apart the simple
external monitor case from laptop sits closed in dock and only uses
external monitor.

That the laptop doesn't suspend under a VT is not expected (unless you
changed HandleLidSwitch=). That might warrant another bug report against
systemd. But under unity it's definitively unity-settings-daemon's
policy which gets applied here.

[Bug 1438301] Re: desktop machine suspends with systemd after ~3 minutes, does NOT suspend with upstart

2015-04-01 Thread Martin Pitt
This still makes little sense to me. I checked all code paths that call
manager_handle_action(), and they all have a log_info() before it. But
logind doesn't log any of those. Yesterday I only checked evtest on
event0 (the lid switch), I figure we should also watch event1 and event3
(power buttons), and most importantly event2 (sleep button).

It's also worthwhile copying my locally built systemd-logind, stopping
the system one, running the local one under gdb and breaking on
manager_handle_action().

The two error messages are indeed confusing and should be quiesced. But
here it does work in general; on a system with missing ubuntu-minimal,
apt will propose to install it. Can you please re-check this? Thanks!

[Bug 1439060] [NEW] Ubuntu 14.04.2 installer manual partitioning

2015-04-01 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

i'm trying to install Ubuntu 14.04.2 on Power8 Hardware. I'm having some
trouble with manually
partitioning the disk, the error occurs on hardware and also with
powerkvm. It could be related to [1]

My Partition layout:

Partition SizeType
sda129MBPowerPC PReP
sda2256MB ext4/boot
sda310G LVM

Volume Group: VG01_mariadb01

Volume SizeType
ROOT4G ext4/
VAR 4G ext4/var
SWAPswap

When i select Finish partitioning and write changes to disk

I get this error:

The file system on /dev/sda1 assigned to / has not been marked for
formatting. Directories containing system files
(/etc, /lib, /usr, /var, ...) that already exist under any defined
mountpoint will be deleted during the install.

Please ensure that you have backed up any critical data before
installing.

Do you want to return to the partitioner?

Go Back Yes No

I select No because there is no data on /dev/sda1, /dev/sda1 is the
PReP Partition. After that, i get another error:

-
Failed to delete conflicting files

The installer needs to remove operating system files from the install
target, but was unable to do so. The install cannot continue
-

There is no data on /dev/sda1 i did overwrite all data on it with dd
for one try.

Ubuntu works with automatic partitioning.

If i answer Go Back to the Question and then delete and re create the
PReP Partition, the installation does work.

[Bug 1438862] Re: Using grub in Recovery Menu fails

I cannot reproduce this. On a reasonably current installation, this
updates grub just fine. But I do have a /boot/grub/ directory; can you
check (in the root shell) whether that exists for you?

I had the same problem before, but I had an explicit /dev/shm mount in

sudo ln -s ../../lib/eclipse/plugins/org.eclipse.core.commands_3.6.1.dist.jar

[Bug 1415958] Re: Laptop + external display does not suspend on lid close

2015-04-01 Thread Colin Law
@Martin, could you clarify what is meant by dock events please? Also exactly
what you want me to do in the VT.
Currently if I switch to a VT and close the lid then as far as I can tell
absolutely nothing happens apart from the laptop monitor switching off. Under
Unity the external display briefly blanks and then comes back with windows
that were on the laptop moved to the external display, so it is switching to
single monitor mode.

I did an update of all packages via update manager. The BQ now appears as a new
device! So finally it works! (I didn't try the hardware enablement stack as
suggested by Alan Pope)

Thank you for your bug report, I don't see anything really wrong on that
screenshot, not that some recent fixes landed,
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/humanity-icon-theme/0.6.8 ... could
you try if that's still an issue? In any case probably not an unity
issue since the security icon in the settings has nothing to do with

[Bug 910962] Re: installArchives() failed: dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error, aborting: syntax error: unknown group 'postdrop' in statoverride file Error in function: SystemError: E:Sub-process /usr/bin

2015-04-01 Thread Robie Basak
It sounds like all of the scenarios reported are ones that packaging
can't really be expected to handle, so I don't think we can treat this
as a bug in packaging. So I'll mark this bug as Invalid.

Thanks to all the commenters though - hopefully this will help others
diagnose misconfigurations also.
