[Bug 1439027] [NEW] J.4.7 Linux vs. GNU/Linux
Public bug reported: 1) Linux, for example, is a far superior operating system than DOS precisely because it draws on the collective experience, skill and knowledge of thousands of developers Linux is a kernel, not an OS. The OS is GNU/Linux. Also, who uses DOS anymore? GNU/Linux, for example, is a far superior operating system than Windows precisely because it draws on the collective experience, skill and knowledge of thousands of developers 2) Apache, the most popular web-server, is another freeware product and is acknowledged as the best available. The same can be said of other key web-technologies (most obviously PHP) Apache isn't freeware it's free software -- a vital difference being the availability of the source code under a free software license. Also web-technologies is kind of too general. Apache, the most popular web-server, is another free software project and is acknowledged as the best available. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you might take include checking cable connections and using software tools to investigate the health of your hardware. [Bug 1415958] Re: Laptop + external display does not suspend on lid close
I meant that when you dock or undock a laptop you get a particular evdev event (SW_DOCK), which logind checks for. [Bug 1438301] Re: desktop machine suspends with systemd after ~3 minutes, does NOT suspend with upstart
This still makes little sense to me. I checked all code paths that call manager_handle_action(), and they all have a log_info() before it. But logind doesn't log any of those. Yesterday I only checked evtest on event0 (the lid switch), I figure we should also watch event1 and event3 (power buttons), and most importantly event2 (sleep button). [Bug 1439060] [NEW] Ubuntu 14.04.2 installer manual partitioning
You have been subscribed to a public bug: i'm trying to install Ubuntu 14.04.2 on Power8 Hardware. It could be related to [1] My Partition layout: Partition SizeType sda129MBPowerPC PReP sda2256MB ext4/boot sda310G LVM Volume Group: VG01_mariadb01 Volume SizeType ROOT4G ext4/ VAR 4G ext4/var SWAPswap When i select Finish partitioning and write changes to disk I get this error: The file system on /dev/sda1 assigned to / has not been marked for formatting. Directories containing system files (/etc, /lib, /usr, /var, ...) that already exist under any defined mountpoint will be deleted during the install. Please ensure that you have backed up any critical data before installing. Do you want to return to the partitioner? Go Back Yes No I select No because there is no data on /dev/sda1, /dev/sda1 is the PReP Partition. After that, i get another error: - Failed to delete conflicting files The installer needs to remove operating system files from the install target, but was unable to do so.
