[Bug 1451797] Re: rc.local should require network-online.target
While I agree that this may never have been guaranteed, it has been working with all previous init systems. For me, the implied policy of using rc.local is: Run after all other init stuff has finished. For example, https://github.com/puppetlabs/razor-server uses modifying rc.local in order to trigger some post installation actions to happen once the node has rebooted after being installed. This works pretty well with Precise and Trusty and also seems to be fine with most other distros. Also, having a server with no network connectivity ever will also not be very useful. This is certainly different for desktop systems, but then, why would you have the After=network.target at all? ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1451797 Title: rc.local should require network-online.target To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1451797/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1400175] Re: Acer Aspire ES1-311-P1D5 won't shutdown after system halted
Hey Martin, switching to UEFI/SecureBoot on Ubuntu 14.04 is not trivial, but also not that hard if you follow this guide: http://aaron-kelley.net/blog/2011/12/migrating-an-ubuntu-installation- from-bios-to-uefi/ It's not perfect, but the best one I could find. But what do you mean by keeping Windows? You certainly don't need Windows to migrate your system to UEFI if you meant that. I only used Windows for flashing the BIOS, nothing else. For switching to UEFI, you just need a bootable Live-USB stick with Ubuntu (or similar). Concerning the touchpad problems: I disassembled my laptop to a point that I could inspect the touchpad and then covered everything on its back (just using clear sellotape) which looked like it could short out something when it's pressed. My mouse pointer never spazzed out since then. ACER's quality control isn't the best it seems. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1400175 Title: Acer Aspire ES1-311-P1D5 won't shutdown after system halted To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1400175/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1451798] [NEW] black screen (but with cursor) after rotating by 180 degrees
Public bug reported: I use `xrandr --output LVDS1 --rotate inverted` to rotate the contents of my screen by 180 degrees as part of my thinkpad-scripts. This has worked well until Kubuntu 14.10. Now it still works when I have an external screen (DP2) attached. I just tried it out now without an external screen attached. The screen turns black, but I can still see the mouse cursor. The cursor also changes according to the program that it is on, one just does not see the program. I can also click and it will have some effect. To see the screen again, I do [Ctrl][Alt][F1] and then [Ctrl][Alt][F7]. Somebody else has the same ThinkPad X220 with Ubuntu (not sure the version, though) but uses Unity. He has the exact same problem, so this is not bound to KDE or Unity, but fundamental to something that `xrandr` does. [Bug 1451797] [NEW] rc.local should require network-online.target
Public bug reported: The current definition in `/lib/systemd/system/rc-local.service` uses `After=network.target`, which is pretty useless, as `network.target` according to http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/NetworkTarget/ only has relevance during shutdown, which never happens for rc.local. The result is that tasks in rc.local may get started before the network is properly setup, which may cause them to fail, as this is a significant change from the old SysV init behaviour. The solution would be to change the dependency to Wants=network-online.target After=network-online.target see also the notes in http://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/systemd.special.html for that. [Bug 1451800] Re: Wish: Please provide an easy downgrade path to LTS
I imagined something like that. But if this is the situation, I think that much more care should be put in providing complete information to users. When people moved from LTS to utopic there was no information about the fact that such path was going to force people to a reinstall to LTS after utopic because vivid was going to be a test bed for non mature technologies. [Bug 1273890] Re: emulator camera does not take picture
It's libaalcamera.so (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtubuntu- camera) that sets illegal values: android_camera_set_preview_size(-1, -1) android_camera_set_preview_fps(0) However, it's camera.goldfish.so that returns wrong preview fps range values. [Bug 1451800] [NEW] Wish: Please provide an easy downgrade path to LTS
Public bug reported: Kubuntu keeps saying that We provide Kubuntu 14.04LTS for those who still prefer Plasma 4. But users who moved from LTS to utopic, now are *forced* to Plasma 5 even if it is still a regression in almost any sense. I am sure, that with time it will become a great desktop, but for now: - Plasma frequently crashes (in many occasions works goes lost) - Kwin fails badly on nvidia hardware with legacy 304 driver (all users with legacy nvidia hardware are left in the cold, unless they manually install a known patch) - .profile is not sourced by KDM (a lot of user configured stuff breaks) - The login manager does not support a guest user - Hplip cannot dock in the system tray (all users get a nasty error at every login and then stay without HP printer support, unless they manually install a known patch) - Plasma desktop crashes when adding an external monitor and switching primary output (so users with external monitors are left in the cold) - The session manager is not able to restore applications to the proper virtual desktops (which is worse than not having session management at all) - Some widgets once added cannot be removed because they make plasma crash when one tries to remove them (notably cpu load), so that one has to manually remove them one by one, otherwise users try to use them. - Screen savers support is completely missing (so machines occasionally get confused for being switched off and unplugged) - The system settings are incomplete wrt what was available in plasma 4 - Some buttons in system settings do nothing (e.g. Online Accounts - create - Google). Why are those buttons there in first place? - and more... ** Affects: kubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - Wish: Please provide an easy downgrade path LTS + Wish: Please provide an easy downgrade path to LTS -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1451800 Title: Wish: Please provide an easy downgrade path to LTS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kubuntu-meta/+bug/1451800/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1431371] Re: Left Alt + num is not passed to irssi in terminal when in GUI
@zds: Making it a profile-level setting could lead to another pretty annoying misleading behavior, e.g. you have two tabs, Alt+2 switches from the 1st to the 2nd, but then Alt+1 doesn't switch back. There's a good reason hotkeys are global, not per-profile. @laney: I wasn't the one pushing for this change, apparently the main developer doesn't show any interest in changing this. I have no idea what could be done to improve the situation, and whether it needs improvement at all. The issue has been discussed on several forums by now, I believe everyone who uses IRC is power user enough that they can type this question into whichever search engine and find the answer. Software keep changing by little bits like this one over time and you need to get used to minor changes quite often. I don't see this one being a bigger deal than the average UI change. [Bug 1451789] Re: bcmwl causes system freeze
When trying to reproduce the issue, I noticed that I could log into the GUI as created by the session manager (lightdm) if I left the cable in the onboard NIC. That means the system does go ahead when it can at least create one network connection other than lo (which is the default auto in my 15.04 configuration). If the NIC is not connected, the system will exhibit the symptoms as described above. I attach both kernel logs (with and without a cable attached). More than happy to open a kernel bug report although that I do not think that this is solely a kernel issue. Please advise. The last kernel version known to work is 3.17.8-031708; any later version up to 4.0.1 as installed from the Ubuntu kernel mainline archive fails with the symptoms described above. I also tried to reproduce this on version 4.1 but couldn't due to a GPL licensing issue (cf. https://github.com/longsleep/bcmwl-ubuntu/issues/2). ** Attachment added: Kernel log without cable attached https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bcmwl/+bug/1451789/+attachment/4391329/+files/3.19.0-15.dmp -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1451789 Title: bcmwl causes system freeze To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bcmwl/+bug/1451789/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
