I am also experiencing this after an upgrade to 15.10. I can navigate

[Bug 1519393] Re: New revision of 0c45:8419 Microdia USB Touchscreen not working under 14.04

** Description changed:

  Filing here per request at:

    http://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2015/11/24/%23ubuntu-devel.html#t14:35

- I have approximately fifty USB touch panels. These are from two
- different batches, but all report the same USB ID 0c45:8419. The
- manufacturer told me they had changed the firmware without changing the
- USB ID/version because they did not consider the change important. Both
- batches work correctly on Ubuntu 10.04, but only one batch works on
- 14.04. As such, this is a regression.

[Bug 1503541] Re: kern.log flooded with "[drm:gen8_irq_handler [i915_bpo]] *ERROR* The master control interrupt lied (SDE)!"

2015-11-24 Thread Yuri Ribeiro Sucupira
This bug also affects me. Well, now it doesn't anymore, because I've
downgraded my system kernel.

Device: notebook Dell Inspiron 5548

Operating system: 64-bit XUbuntu Linux 14.04

Processor: Intel Core i7-5500U

Video: dual chip. These are the two display controllers:
- Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Topaz XT [Radeon R7 M260] display
controller 3300Hz (requires kernel module / device driver "fglrx"); and
- Intel Corporation Broadwell-U Integrated Graphics VGA compatible controller
3300Hz (requires kernel module / device driver "i915").

Problem: the message "[drm:gen8_irq_handler [i915_bpo]] *ERROR* The
master control interrupt lied (SDE)!" floods my dmesg. If I "cat
/var/log/kern.log |grep -i i915" i see a huge amount of messages exactly
like this one, hence I can only assume that the kernel module i915_bpo
is buggy. Also, my notebook was subtly powering off from time to time
(unrelated with overheat, I'm pretty sure 'coz I've already monitored
temperature parameters and also 'coz I'm using a cooling laptop
base/pad).

Kernels I've tested which have this issue:
- 3.19.0-18-generic
- 3.19.0-23-generic
- 3.19.0-28-generic
- 3.19.0-33-generic
- 4.2.0-18-generic

All of them have the same problem: the kernel module "i915.ko" (in
4.2.0-18-generic) and the kernel module "i915_bpo.ko" (in kernels
3.19.0-??-generic) cause subtle system shutdown (halt / poweroff) in my
notebook.

Solution: I downgraded to kernel 3.13.0-36-generic, which isn't buggy
with its "i915_bdw.ko" (version 3.0) kernel object (module). Full path
for this module:
/lib/modules/3.13.0-36-generic/kernel/ubuntu/i915/i915_bdw.ko

Notes:
- "bdw" stands for "Broadwell"
- "bpo", I believe, stands for "backport"

IMO, this bug is pretty serious and is taking a lot of time to get
fixed: my notebook could get damaged if it kept subtly powering off on
an everyday basis like it was doing because of this bug. Hence, my
strong suggestion to those who are experiencing this issue is to
downgrade to a stable kernel version (I recommend kernel
3.13.0-36-generic.

If you don't want to downgrade your kernel: become root ('sudo su'),
then open '/etc/default/grub' for edition (e.g.: 'gedit
/etc/default/grub'), then add the 'nomodeset' option to
"GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=" (e.g.:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="nomodeset"), then save the file, exit the
text editor and, still as root, run the command 'update-grub && telinit
6'. Your GRUB will be updated and your system will be restarted. After
that you won't be able to see OpenGL graphics anymore (e.g. Xscreensaver
openGL screensavers won't load), but your system will stop subtly
powering off.

[Bug 1519365] Re: Thunderbird email address autocomplete list got clipped on some XFCE themes

2015-11-24 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1519365/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

In my case, contacts are duplicated 2, 3 or even 5 times in extreme cases.
Hower, there are not duplicated in Google.
It noticed this since latest OTA (8). I have BQ Aquaris E5.
I wonder how to get out of this mess.

Hi Sebastien,

I upgraded to wily and the issue was solved with the version

I'll not be able to reproduce this bug, but maybe if someone still have
Vivid he can reported to upstream.

Thanks for looking this case.

[Bug 1519102] Re: Failed to start Load Kernel Modules

2015-11-24 Thread Robert Smith
Thank you. The quotes were actually there. Could this be a bug? I
didn't add the quotes and as you can see from the report, it was a fresh
install. This is the output now:

There is a message after logging out: "A start job is running for Wait

Maybe that's unrelated to this issue?

[Bug 1488719] Re: dmesg shows "[drm:gen8_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR* The master control interrupt lied (SDE)!"

2015-11-24 Thread Yuri Ribeiro Sucupira
This bug also affects me. Well, now it doesn't anymore, because I've
downgraded my system kernel.

Device: notebook Dell Inspiron 5548

Operating system: 64-bit XUbuntu Linux 14.04

Processor: Intel Core i7-5500U

Video: dual chip. These are the two display controllers:
- Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Topaz XT [Radeon R7 M260] display
controller 3300Hz (requires kernel module / device driver "fglrx"); and
- Intel Corporation Broadwell-U Integrated Graphics VGA compatible controller
3300Hz (requires kernel module / device driver "i915").

Problem: the message "[drm:gen8_irq_handler [i915_bpo]] *ERROR* The
master control interrupt lied (SDE)!" floods my dmesg, and from time to
time my system crashes and my computer powers off. If I 'cat
/var/log/kern.log |grep -i i915' i see a huge amount of messages exactly
like this one, hence I can only assume that the kernel module i915_bpo
is buggy (or these kernels are buggy while they interact with that
kernel module). My notebook is subtly powering off from time to time
(unrelated with overheat, I'm pretty sure 'coz I've already monitored
temperature parameters and also 'coz I'm using a cooling laptop
base/pad, besides the fact that my notebook is brand-new: only 1 week
old).

Kernels I've tested which have this issue:
- 3.19.0-18-generic
- 3.19.0-23-generic
- 3.19.0-28-generic
- 3.19.0-33-generic
- 4.2.0-18-generic

All of them have the same problem: the kernel module "i915.ko" (in
4.2.0-18-generic) and the kernel module "i915_bpo.ko" (in kernels
3.19.0-??-generic) randomly cause subtle system shutdown (halt /
poweroff) in my notebook.

Solution: I downgraded to kernel 3.13.0-36-generic, which isn't buggy
with its "i915_bdw.ko" (version 3.0) kernel object (module). Full path
for this module:
/lib/modules/3.13.0-36-generic/kernel/ubuntu/i915/i915_bdw.ko

Notes:
- "bdw" stands for "Broadwell"
- "bpo", I believe, stands for "backport"

IMO, this bug is pretty serious and is taking a lot of time to get
fixed: my notebook could get damaged if it kept subtly powering off
several times a day, on an everyday basis, like it was doing because of
this bug. Hence, my strong suggestion to those who are experiencing this
issue is to downgrade to a stable kernel version (I recommend kernel
3.13.0-36-generic).

If you don't want to downgrade your kernel: become root ('sudo su'),
then open '/etc/default/grub' for edition (e.g. 'gedit
/etc/default/grub'), then add the 'nomodeset' option to
"GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=" (e.g.

Leads me to belief that the test is broken, and depends on the actuall memory
to be in a consistent state after allocation. It seems that it has been
recognised already that the test is borked, and it ends up skipping said test
most of the time on s390x with OOM error. In my instance, it's getting OOM
killed, rather than getting OOM error. Disabling MALLOC_PERTURB_ passes the
test, which I've now done. This bug should be forwared upstream, for further
investigation.

My goal is to bring Ubuntu packaging more closely aligned with the

[Bug 1465183] Re: ubuntu 15.04 dhcp: option routers and option rfc3442-classless-static-routes

2015-11-24 Thread renard
I can confirm I hit the same bug in a full Linux environment.
- server: 4.2.4-7ubuntu12.3
- client: 4.3.1-5ubuntu4

All clients (+500 hosts) in 4.2.4-7ubuntu12.3 work like a charm.

I cannot understand why this had changed. Any planned date to resolve this
issue?

Thanks.

Wouldn't it make more sense for this list to be dynamic, to also include

[Bug 1500533] Re: Ubuntu Mate Welcome can't install any software when OS installed without internet connection

2015-11-24 Thread Luke Horwell
Thanks for sharing the feedback. It's true, Ubuntu MATE Welcome cannot
install software when the computer is not connected to the Internet. It
also causes problems later when repositories are improperly being added
(and attempts to refresh the source list) due to being offline.

To address this, I've added to ability to detect when the computer is
offline (specifically, cannot reach the Ubuntu repository server) and
displays a message informing the user to connect to the internet.

I made some commits in my copy of the repository, to be sent as a pull
request later.

-- Detect internet connection:
https://bitbucket.org/lah7/ubuntu-mate-welcome-16.04/commits/bfa97fab86d99ff7430f1cf65e349d17dd9f4eae

https://bitbucket.org/lah7/ubuntu-mate-welcome-16.04/commits/b9f174f4c441cff9b739372cec23b3dcabbba859

If applicable, further work will be needed to refresh the sources list
prior to installing the software.

[Bug 1519364] Re: Existing session is terminated while login from locked state

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1519364/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

well, the bug is with the underlining library used and triggered by
trying to delete anything which is not on the local filesystem, trash
being one case but e.g bug #1510587 is about symlink on external mounts
and has the same cause ... maybe let's wait to land the fix and see it
fixes your issue as well

[Bug 1510716] Re: Wallpaper gets offset when logged in

2015-11-24 Thread Luca Weiss
Sorry for the delay, I can confirm the bug persists when using the Open-source
drivers (AMD). But I also had the same "problem" while using the proprietary
Nvidia drivers on my laptop (it has dual-graphics with an integrated Intel one).

[Bug 1508562] Re: Broken symlinks for JSP support in libjetty-extra-java version 6.1.26-1ubuntu1.1

2015-11-24 Thread Dobedani
I did indeed experience problems and tried to correct the symlinks that were
broken, as was visible from the File manager. I also added a few extra symlinks
to Tomcat jars in the /usr/share/java folder. It then seemed that I was
getting a step further, but unfortunately I then got this error:
javax.el.ExpressionFactory.newInstance()Ljavax/el/ExpressionFactory
I concluded that the symlinks el-api.jar and jsp-api.jarhad to be adapted to
point to version 2.2 jars, so I upgraded them. Only to get more errors:
javax.servlet.ServletContext.getClassLoader()Ljava/lang/ClassLoader;  and
No org.apache.tomcat.InstanceManager set in ServletContext. I still hope that
this can be fixed. Jetty is important as web server for Solr.

[Bug 1470730] Re: [HP EliteBook 840 G2, Realtek ALC3228, HP UltraSlim Dock 2013] Line in/Line out on docking station doesn't work

2015-11-24 Thread val-s
I guess I'm still not understanding the release process and whether this
is fixed, if there is more information needed, and how we can test it?
Sorry for a newbie question, but what's next?

I don't mind giving it a whirl if someone shares installation
instructions. I'm unclear how to properly recompile alsa-driver for
ubuntu or if I can pull an upstream artifact with this fix.
