[Bug 1510540] Re: Text next to icons doesn't work on GTK themes

2016-01-08 Thread Simon Steinbeiß
As far as I understand this is not a problem with themes but it depends
on the app whether it actually enforces the both-horiz setting (i.e.
showing the text next to the icon in toolbars).

If it's not explicitely enabled on a GtkToolItem, this setting does exactly
nothing:
https://developer.gnome.org/gtk2/stable/GtkToolItem.html#gtk-tool-item-set-is-important

So I would presume that everything is fine and that this is not a bug.

[Bug 1532341] [NEW] OptionSelectorDelegate wrongly used in ItemSelector example

2016-01-08 Thread danjjl
Public bug reported:

In the example use of ItemSelelctor
(https://developer.ubuntu.com/api/apps/qml/sdk-15.04.1/Ubuntu.Components.ListItems.ItemSelector/),
an example is given that uses OptionSelectorDelegate.

The example initiates a Component with a
"Toolkit.OptionSelectorDelegate".

This gives the following error: Toolkit.OptionSelectorDelegate - Toolkit
is not a namespace

I believe the correct documentation would initiate a Component with a
"OptionSelectorDelegate".

[Bug 1532357] [NEW] Realtek Wifi card rtl8723be seems to lose network connection

2016-01-08 Thread marco.pallotta
Public bug reported:

After installing Ubuntu 14.04 64bit I encountered the continuos network hang.
Network manager doesn't seems to change its status, as well as my IP address

The only solution is to reboot the system and wait for next network hang (I
tested that just few commands via ssh lead to the issue).

To fix this I launched the following command and reboot the system:

interrupts you every time.

[Bug 1522422] Re: Update to php 7.0

2016-01-08 Thread Ondřej Surý
@racb and rest:

The main blocker is all the rdeps that depend on php5-. There
are two approaches we could take:

1) patch all the sources to depend on php-

2) prepare src:php5 that just depend 1:1 on src:php7.0

well, there's third option:

3) do as much 1) and then finish with 2)

I have prepared 2) here: http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-
php/php5.git/

Re 1) the new pkg-php-tools and naming needs decision and a quite lot of work:
http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-php-pecl/Week-of-Mon-20160104/000677.html

This has to be solved by PEAR maintainers with help from anybody who has
time to help (that's not me).

Cheers,
Ondrej

[Bug 1509723] Re: [Acer Aspire ES1-311] Ubuntu freezes occasionally

2016-01-08 Thread julio
@richard:

what can we do ? i am no expert in this either.
But my guess is supporting this thread:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109051
is the right thing to do, cause it is the bugreport at the right place, meaning
the kernel bug list.
This thread here is a ubuntu bug report, and actually ubuntu is not the problem.

it is a very difficult problem, there is no reproduction scenario, no
trace-dumps or anything that could help debugging this.
for me it is not too tragic as i can operate everything i need with kernel
v4.1.12
btw in that kernel bug thread mentioned above the latest reported kernel to
work is 4.1.15

[Bug 1532065] Re: can't open apt on 15.10 new install

2016-01-08 Thread Flames_in_Paradise
Missing logfiles -bugreport is not of great use without them, as the
situation will not be reproduceable.

Just in case - If U are unlucky with 14.04 LTS - I would assume
that U are having an UEFI-Mainboard, thus U should install wt UEFI-
Media, instead of BIOS-Legacy. In case U need help on this, it's
preferable that you join with ur local Kubuntu-Forum in order to seek
advice. U can find some information/link on https://www.kubuntu.org or
take a look at https://askubuntu.com/

OT: You should be able to run an upgrade 16.04.1 LTS lateron, it would
be recommend then to wait half year upon the to have things settled.
The system will inform u then. But U can also stick with Trusty Tahr
14.04 since this gets supporrted until 2019. Newer Versions of Kubuntu
will contain Plasma5 which is not yet ment for a stable production
environment. This may sound harsh but it's honest. at least.

Release-Notes: https://www.kubuntu.org/news/kubuntu-14-04-lts

Best wishes for the new year to U

In Ubuntu we don't have specific maintainers for packages, instead teams
that work towards goals. So unlike Debian where you'd need to mass file
a bug, give maintainers a chance to respond, then perhaps upload delayed
NMUs etc, in Ubuntu the method is for one developer to just mass upload
a change like this as necessary. So the actual doing of it doesn't
concern me, but there is a risk in having to deal with any failures that
might be the problem for our schedule.

However we do want to end up in sync with Debian in the end, of course,
so we don't want to do something one way if Debian will eventually do it
another.

Or we could drop src:php5 and provide additional transitional packages
in src:php7.0 instead, which would appear to be the same thing from a
binary package perspective.

Either way we could do this, but it seems wrong and hacky to me, except
temporarily and where users might install these directly and therefore
need a transitional package.

If we do 2) then that's only temporary anyway, presumably, since we'll
want to drop all transitional packages in a future release both in
Debian and Ubuntu?

Given the schedule we probably want to take the path of least resistance
though. I certainly don't want to do something you don't want to support
in Debian.

This worries me a bit more. Do we risk breaking PEAR/PECL users if we
commit to PHP 7.0 in 16.04 and then find we don't have this ready in
time?

[Bug 1531455] Re: reboot under Oracle Virtual Box not possible

2016-01-08 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Switching over to virtualbox, as it appears an issue with their kernel
module (i.e. not linux kernel issue).

** Description changed:

Running 16.04 server without X under latest Oracle Virtual Box 5.0.12 on
Windows. After issuing 'shutdown -r now' the following boot process is not
successful and hangs with message:
---[ end of Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: unable to mound root fs on
unknown-block(0,0)

If using 'shutdown -h now' and then staring the machine anew from
Virtual Box manager, then the system starts as it should. Thus, for
short, warm reboot hangs and cold reboot operates as desired. I have the
feeling that this behavior was introduced with kernel 4.3, but I cannot
  swear on it.
+
+ WORKAROUND: Switch network adapter type to Intel Pro/1000 MT Desktop
+ from paravirtualized network (virtio-net).

[Bug 840777] Re: Muting sound indicator in Unity Greeter does not mute sound on login

2016-01-08 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
** Description changed:

I am using beta edition of Ubuntu 11.10,with lightdm 0.9.3-0ubuntu8,and unity
4.12.0-0ubuntu2,
There is a new feature in Display Manager(well,I didn't notice it in gdm,but
it might have been there as well),That you can mute the sound so that login
sound wont play(This option exists in the top of the lightdm login page, when
you turn on ubuntu and load it)However,Login sound will still play and sound
settings will change regardless of what you choose.
  I should add that,this happens only after a reboot or shutdown,boot again,and
not when you logout and login again

- Desired solution:
- - Any changes made to the volume control in the Unity Greeter should carry
through to the logged in session and vice versa.
- - For example, if a user changes or mutes the volume in the Unity Greeter,
when they are logged in to their session this value should be carried over
- - The other way around is also true, if a user changes or mutes the volume in
their session, when they log out this value should be displayed in the greeter.
- - Sound settings are stored individually on a per user account basis. The
sound settings displayed in the greeter should change in line with the
currently focused user account. So for example User A is currently focused and
has has volume at 100%. If the focus in the greeter is changed to User B (who
has volume muted), the sound indicator should change to display the muted state.
+ : "Sound volume should also be
+ independent of which user — or whether any user — is logged in. This
+ way, if you mute or turn down sound at the login screen, you will not be
+ surprised or frustrated by sound playing loudly after you log in."

[Bug 1532157] [NEW] Link to release notes Kubuntu-Trusty throws 404

2016-01-08 Thread Flames_in_Paradise
Public bug reported:

hi!

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/TrustyTahr/ReleaseNotes/Kubuntu -> gets to
mention this link:

http://www.kubuntu.org/news/kubuntu-14.04

which throws a 404-error-report (Page not found)

Should direct to:

https://www.kubuntu.org/news/kubuntu-14-04-lts

AND if you are on it, it would also be nice to fit the Release-Notes-
Link of Ubuntu into here:

https://www.kubuntu.org/news/kubuntu-15-10 (just like in the 14.04LTS-
Kub-Page)

This is missing: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WilyWerewolf/ReleaseNotes/

As the underlying system is not impeccable it is welcome to have Kubuntu
users informed e.g. to switch in case of AMD-closed-source-Drivers
(fglrx) to open-source driver _before_ the Upgrade – otherwise they run
into a black-screen. This is "warmly recommended" as said in the Ubunut-
RN.

Cheers. & all happiness for 2016 to all of U.

better.

As per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-
support/product/precision-m3800-workstation/drivers/advanced an update
to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A10). If you
update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate
does it change anything?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement
or not.
3) Please mark this report Status New. If it's not reproducible, please mark
this as Invalid.

[Bug 1528032] Re: Xorg freeze

2016-01-08 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
leex, as per http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-
page.aspx?pid=4714#bios an update to your computer's buggy and outdated
BIOS is available (F7). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement
or not.
3) Please mark this report Status New. If it's not reproducible, please mark
this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1532314] Re: Buffer overflow in cgmanager

2016-01-08 Thread Shimin
It can happen fairly often. For example, in one case it happened 5 times
within a span of less than 30 minutes.

Jan 8 05:35:04 ip-10-169-176-230 cgmanager[781]: *** buffer overflow detected
***: /sbin/cgmanager terminated
Jan 8 05:40:23 ip-10-169-176-230 cgmanager[15954]: *** buffer overflow

Jan 8 05:51:00 ip-10-169-176-230 cgmanager[31989]: *** buffer overflow

Jan 8 05:56:19 ip-10-169-176-230 cgmanager[23719]: *** buffer overflow

Jan 8 06:01:38 ip-10-169-176-230 cgmanager[5627]: *** buffer overflow detected
***: /sbin/cgmanager terminated

However, I still don't know the specific condition that triggers it. I'm
repeating the same test suite over and over, and sometimes it can go for
a long time without triggering.

I tried your commands and they trigger the crash.

[Bug 1528334] Re: No contact to WLAN no Sound here

2016-01-08 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Berger Gerhard, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better.

At your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream
kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (the release
names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily
folder)? Install instructions are available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . This will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may:
1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there.
2) Backup, or clone the primary install.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is
the release candidate number if it exists.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this
report's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1532397] [NEW] Firefox blocks writing some characters after switching to java application

2016-01-08 Thread rooobertek
Public bug reported:

versions:
 Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS
Firefox: 43 and few older releases
I am from Slovakia and I use english and slovak keyboard. When I want to write
for example character "Ď", I need to push "ˇ" (button left to the backspace on
the standard keyboard) and next "D". And I can't in this case:
- using firefox
- switch to netbeans with ALT+TAB (after click in left unity menu it works
correctly)
- push "ˇ", push "D" - I get "D" and not "Ď"

This bug is affecting me every day, because my web developing process is
often "refresh in firefox" > "small change in netbeans and save" > back
to step 1.

Firefox is the only one application that is doing this. Even thunderbird
is OK. More (maybe all) java applications are affected, at least
Netbeans, Android Studio, Oracle SQL Developer.

I have tried it on 3 computers with ubuntu 14.04, firefox with and
without default settings. I have also tried firefox 28 (it is in
repository), there it worked correctly.

[Bug 1390974] Re: Lost dependency for clisp

2016-01-08 Thread PeterPall
Found the (no more acccessible) mailing list entry in the internet
achive:

https://web.archive.org/web/20151020061212/https://www.ma.utexas.edu/pipermail/maxima/2013/034129.html

One of maxima's advantages is that if any lisp has a drawback one cannot live
with one can use a different lisp to compile maxima:
 - sbcl is quite fast but tends to run out of memory for big tasks
 - ccl has a very memory-efficient memory handling - but is about 10 times
slower than sbcl.
 - gcl is fast with big numbers (tens of thousands of digits) but a little bit
slower than sbcl when handling lists; it tends to run out of memory on other
places than sbcl.

Clisp is therefore not a dependency of maxima. It is an alternative
compiler it can be compiled with.

Maxima also provides the possibility to compile it with several lisps
when the package is created and to use a command-line switch that tells
maxima which of these lisps it has to use. This will of course make the
package considerably larger (since in this case most files have to be
shipped in a sbcl, a ccl, a gcl etc. version along with all the lisps
maxima depends on then). But - if there is enough need to do so maybe
the maintainer of the debian package can be convinced to add this
functionality to the package.

[Bug 1532400] [NEW] ubuntu 15.10 separate drive from Win 10 and UEFI partions on other drive

2016-01-08 Thread Mickey Lowy
Public bug reported:

Windows 8.1 Pro is upgraded to Windows 10 Pro. The SDC (SSD 256GB
Samsung)drive has sdc1 uefi partion of 350Mb (shows as NTFS, not FAT32 -
Windows set it up that way), the the rest of the drive is Win 10.

Trying to install Ubuntu 15.10 on empty SDA drive (SSD 500GB Samsung).
Swap file is on SDD drive.

I have turned off everything I can think of and it still won't load. I
turned off BIOS settings in ASUS X99 Mobo (as I understand them from the
Ubuntu instructions (fast boot, Intel tech, Security set to Other OS))

In Windows , I turned off hibernate (Never) and fast restart (never)

What other hoops do I have to jumped through to get Ubuntu loaded??

  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 2: Audio [DigiHug USB Audio], device 1: USB Audio [USB Audio #1]
  Subdevices: 1/1

On my .asoundrc (I copied here: http://www.alsa-
project.org/main/index.php/Asoundrc)

pcm.!default {

card 2

ctl.!default {

Should I add device # on each of those blocks? If you notice, each card
has different device #.

[Bug 1532342] [NEW] Wily update to v4.2.8-ckt1 stable release

2016-01-08 Thread Kamal Mostafa
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The v4.2.8-ckt1 upstream
stable
patch set is now available. It should be included in the Ubuntu
   kernel as well.

   git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/linux.git

TEST CASE: TBD

The following patches from the v4.2.8-ckt1 stable release shall
be applied:

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu Wily)

[Bug 1529395] Re: Cannot receive file from smartphone

I had very similar problem.
I installed gnome-user-share 3.14.2-2ubuntu2(for "16.04 Xenial Xerus" package
.deb from https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-user-share ) to my
Ubuntu(15.10 Wily werewolf) machine, then Bluetooth file receiving success.
This workaround not smart, may other effects.
