[Bug 1551854] Re: LXD bootstrap issues on xenial

2016-03-07 Thread Stéphane Graber
Please can everyone affected by this issue post the output of: dpkg -l
lxc liblxc1 lxd lxd-client lxcfs

It's very difficult to figure out what's wrong when we don't even know
the version being used.

[Bug 1554223] [NEW] apt-get update fails with "Unable to find expected entry 'main/binary-i386/Packages' in Release file" on pure x86_64 repos

2016-03-07 Thread Dan Kegel
Public bug reported:

(ubuntu-bug wouldn't let me report bugs against apt, go figure.)

I run my own apt repo for a third-party app, and I have to include a
dummy i386 package to avoid an error from apt-get.

Along comes Chrome's decision to desupport i386, and suddenly this problem
matters to a lot of people,
who are all seeing apt-get update fail with:

W: Failed to fetch http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/dists/stable/Release
Unable to find expected entry 'main/binary-i386/Packages' in Release file
(Wrong sources.list entry or malformed file)
E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones
used instead.

While it would be easy for Google to include a dummy i386 package in
their repo, it would be even better if apt-get didn't barf like this on
pure 64 bit repos.

I attached a screenshot of the same problem under Unity.

[Bug 1553482] Re: Access to microphone is allowed even when user denies access to "video and microphone"

2016-03-07 Thread Olivier Tilloy
> Same small glitch with the ellipsis (long text) in the dialog with
> English, btw:

That’s because they are not the same prompts. One is the browser prompt
(the one with truncated text), the other one is from the trust store.

As mpt pointed out in bug #1553713, the mere fact that the browser uses
a dialog to prompt for permissions is confusing and not optimal, a non-
modal ribbon at the top/bottom of the webview would be more suited.

In any case, thanks for pointing out this truncation issue, I’ve filed
bug #1554220 to track it separately.

[Bug 1554220] [NEW] Text truncated in media permission prompt

2016-03-07 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Public bug reported:

This appears to be the case in several languages, including English, German and
French.
To observe, browse to e.g. https://appear.in/foobarbaz. You’ll get a prompt to
allow the browser to access the camera and microphone. Given that the question
is in the title of the dialog (which is limited to 2 lines of text, and
ellipsized), it is truncated, making it hard to understand the question at all.
See attached screenshot (in French).

Yes. I start them by ssh'ing in as user ubuntu and doing lxc-start.
Does that work for you?

This may not be enough to trigger pam-cgfs to create cgroups for you,
so that may be the reason it fails. What does

sudo lxc-attach -n test-libertine -- sudo -u ubuntu -H cat

show?

[Bug 1551854] Re: LXD bootstrap issues on xenial

2016-03-07 Thread Stéphane Graber
I'd like to note that LXD works differently from LXC here.

In LXC we mount debugfs through ubuntu.common.conf whereas with lxd, we
simply bind-mount /sys/kernel/debug from the host if it exists.

LXD doesn't use any of the /usr/share/lxc/* files. If it does on your
system, then you most definitely aren't running LXD 2.0.

I would say it should get more investigation first. For one thing, the
error message says "Maximum execution time of 3000 seconds exceeded", but
3000 seconds is 50 minutes and the entire autopkgtest run only took 5
minutes.

For now, the test is overridden for proposed-migration.

I see. That doesn't look like a very sane test to me; the test ought to test
that the output is *correct*, not test that the output matches some known
bug. Yes, I think patching this test to always check for the correct value
is appropriate.

Regardless of apparmor policies, if the user denied access to
audio/video, oxide shouldn’t even try to access the hardware. Obviously
if it does and succeeds in doing so, there’s also a bug lower down the
stack. Both issues need to be investigated and fixed (can be done
separately).

[Bug 1496927] Re: [Hyper-V] udev trying to modify owner and mode of /dev/vmbus/hv_vss

2016-03-07 Thread Joseph Salisbury
I believe the following commit will fix this bug:

commit ed9ba608e4851144af8c7061cbb19f751c73e998
Author: Olaf Hering
Date: Mon Dec 14 16:01:42 2015 -0800

Drivers: hv: vss: run only on supported host versions

I built a Wily test kernel with this commit, which can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1496927/

Can you confirm this test kernel fixes the bug?

[Bug 1554152] Re: pollinate fails in many circumstances, cloud-init reports that failure, maas reports node failed deployment

2016-03-07 Thread Dustin Kirkland 
bzr commit -m '* pollinate, pollinate.1: LP: #1554152
  - change the failure mode of pollinate, so as to more cleanly
tolerate network failures
  - add a --strict option to re-enable the previous behavior,
ie, strictly exit non-zero if pollinate fails for any reason
  - we've always promised that pollinate would operate on a best-effort
basis, improving the prng seeding when possible, but failing
gracefully when not possible; as such, we've made good on the first
half of that promise, however, the latter half has proven
troublesome; this is due to the fact that if pollinate exits
non-zero, then its callers (cloud-init, maas, etc.) may well
interpret the behavior strictly as a failure to boot the system,
when in fact that's not the case; instead, we'll clearly print
a warning to syslog, and we'll retry the seeding on next pollinate
service start (e.g. a reboot); moreover, we'll carry a --strict
flag in the case that users want to opt into the previous behavior' --fixes

[Bug 1554149] Re: Asks for separate permission for microphone and camera

2016-03-07 Thread Olivier Tilloy
@Peter: the prompt you’re seeing is the one to grant access to the web
API (MediaDevices.getUserMedia()). The trust store / apparmor operate at
an entirely different level, by intercepting direct access to the
hardware. You’re probably not seeing the trust store prompts because you
have already granted those permissions for the browser.

Note that the web API prompt is per domain (and permissions are not
remembered across browsing sessions, that’s a missing feature in oxide,
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/oxide/+spec/site-settings), whereas the
trust store permissions are per app, so they are going to be prompted
only once for the browser the first time a site requests those
permissions).

This (in maas-region-controller.postrm) prevents dbconfig-common from

[Bug 1554214] [NEW] Usege of vfio-pci module via /etc/dpdk/interfaces doesn't work

2016-03-07 Thread Thiago Martins
Public bug reported:

Guys,

I'm trying to use the "vfio-pci" with DPDK under Xenial but, it does
not work.

When with "uio-pci-generic", it works, like this:

---
pci :01:00.0uio-pci-generic
pci :01:00.1uio-pci-generic
---

After reboot, I can see that devices and bounded to DPDK-compatible
driver "dpdk_nic_bind --status", as expected.

However, when I change it to "vfio-pci", it does not work anymore, like
this:

---
pci:01:00.0vfio-pci
pci:01:00.1vfio-pci
---

I tried to add "vfio-pci" to the "/etc/modules" but, it also doesn't
work after reboot.

So, I disabled all entries under "/etc/dpdk/interfaces", to try it
manually, like this:

---
dpdk_nic_bind --bind=vfio-pci em1
dpdk_nic_bind --bind=vfio-pci em2
---

Then, it worked! Look the output of "dpdk_nic_bind --status":

---
Network devices using DPDK-compatible driver

:01:00.0 'NetXtreme II BCM57800 1/10 Gigabit Ethernet' drv=vfio-pci
unused=bnx2x
:01:00.1 'NetXtreme II BCM57800 1/10 Gigabit Ethernet' drv=vfio-pci
unused=bnx2x
---

So, it is not working via "/etc/dpdk/interfaces" but works manually!

NOTE: To make it work manually, the module "vfio-pci" must be declared
at "/etc/modules" as well.

Cheers!
Thiago

Hi Andres,

Maybe unrelated and I may not understand your intentions, but I see the
following in your maas-region-controller.config:
set_question() {
if ! db_fget "$1" seen; then
db_register dbconfig-common/dbconfig-install "$1"
db_subst "$1" ID "$1"
db_fget "$1" seen
fi

Which gets called by:
set_question maas-region-controller/dbconfig-install true
set_question maas-region-controller/pgsql/app-pass ""
set_question maas-region-controller/remote/host "localhost"

But isn't the question from the second set, the $1 in the first
function? So shouldn't that "db_register" line also register the other
questions and use the value provided as argument?

2016-03-07 Thread Paul Gevers
Hi Andres,

Maybe unrelated and I may not understand your intentions, but I see the
following in your maas-region-controller.config:
set_question() {
if ! db_fget "$1" seen; then
db_register dbconfig-common/dbconfig-install "$1"
db_subst "$1" ID "$1"
db_fget "$1" seen
fi

Which gets called by:
set_question maas-region-controller/dbconfig-install true
set_question maas-region-controller/pgsql/app-pass ""
set_question maas-region-controller/remote/host "localhost"

But isn't the question from the second set, the $1 in the first

[Bug 997020] Re: apport-collect does not work on headless servers

2016-03-07 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
This has a compelling reason given a fair amount of original reporters
are doing so via Server OSes (i.e. no GUI).

This would want to be addressed as resources become available to ease
triaging, and server original report confusion.

** Changed in: apport (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided => Medium

** Changed in: apport (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => Triaged

** Changed in: apport (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Medium => Wishlist

** Description changed:

It is essential that apport-collect works on a headless/non-X installs
in order to report bugs. In this case, apport-collect tries to use a
text-based browser to attempt to login to Launchpad.

- I tried lynx, links2, elinks and w3m, of which only w3m worked. With
- elinks I get the following message: "Your Page Was Stale" after
- selecting "continue".
-
- To make apport-collect work, execute the following:
-
- sudo apt-get install w3m
- sudo update-alternatives --set www-browser /usr/bin/w3m
+ I tried lynx, links2, elinks and w3m. With elinks I get the following
+ message: "Your Page Was Stale" after selecting "continue".

This bug is related to #556927, #645024 and #683337. As these only
concern the functioning of w3m, I would here like to raise the issue
that a proper installation must make sure that a compatible text-based
browser is installed and set as default.
+
+ WORKAROUND: Execute the following:
+ sudo apt-get install w3m
+ sudo update-alternatives --set www-browser /usr/bin/w3m

[Bug 1547838] Re: ADMtek ADM8511 "Pegasus II" USB Ethernet causes oops

2016-03-07 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
a1291762, as per
http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=3781730=8=4060
an update to your computer's buggy, insecure, and outdated BIOS is
available (F.20). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

Also, you don't have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement
or not.
3) Please mark this report Status Confirmed.

If it's not reproducible, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

2016-03-07 Thread Martin Pecka
I'm also affected by this bug, when running both glxgears and Gazebo
simulator (or, its graphical client using OpenGL).

Switching to a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+F1) and back unfreezes the screen for
a while. The screen only looks frozen, but normally reacts to mouse and
keyboard events. This only happens if the GL window is displayed on my
primary display (which is handled by the intel integrated chip). The
notebook has 2 video outputs and a discrete AMD graphics, and I think
only one of the outputs is handled by the AMD card, so I think one of
the outputs is handled by the intel card and does not get frozen.

Ubuntu 14.04.3 64bit.

I think that before upgrading from 14.04.2 to 14.04.3 this did not
happen.

[Bug 1530171] Re: [Regression] Thinkpad dock: External monitors not recognized after 15.04 upgrade

2016-03-07 Thread Robert Schetterer
I am tested wily ,xenial, kubuntu, kernels 4.2 , 4.4 on brand new thinkpad
t450s with thinkpad pro dock 90w.
The laptop and the dock has latest fimware !
Intel graphics driver is at latest state too.
Also tested latest 4.5 drm intel nightly. All external displays work always
when directly attached to the laptop.
But with laptop docked, external displays are only running after boot, but fail
when wake up from sleep mode configured in kde
closing lid. This is a very common user powersetting an is awaited to work.
Most of the times external displays could reconfigured i.e by script produced
from arandr ( gtk gui wrapper for xrandr ). But a universal script workaround
seems complicated with acpi, systemd in userland for all thinkable combinations
of possible displays ( up to three include lcd on laptop are possible).

It should simply work out of the box.

Additional info i invested a lot of time in kernel logs and trying grub start
parameter, cause there were other ugly bug with intel 915 driver ( pci lied SDE
etc fixed in 4.5 ) , there is also a point in the bios configure 10s to wait
for notice external displays. Also 2014 the dock had a bug ( also on windows
with external displays which was fixed by new firmware ).
It seems simply the dock does not pass external displays connected after laptop
and external displays got sleep mode after wake up, prove is made by
plug/unplugging external display and reenable it in kde. Also open windows were
only reconstructed
after awake with kernel 4.4 /4.5 after manual reenable, with kernel 4.2 most of
the time also plasma crashes and simply undock
crash x-server too. Any idea what to look next ?
Regards

[Bug 1547838] Re: ADMtek ADM8511 "Pegasus II" USB Ethernet causes oops

2016-03-07 Thread a1291762
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

This is a rather old USB ethernet adapter. It worked fine for me with
older distributions (including Ubuntu 10.04). I noticed it causing
problems after upgrading to 14.04 and stopped using it as a result
(since I needed reliable USB ethernet for work). I was also not
completely sure if it was this device causing the issue or interplay
between this device and a number of other networking USB devices that
  were used at work.

I'd like to use this ethernet adapter at home but the machine is running
Ubuntu 14.04 and the issue persists.

I have collected some information that might help. I'm happy to try more
things to collect information if that will help.

  I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 server 64-bit. I just rebooted so I'm running
  the latest updates.

I was told to run ubuntu-bug linux but I'm not sure how much useful
stuff is included in that. I'm including the kernel log which has some
bad stuff happening in it. Not sure if it got the system-freezing oops
or just the errors leading up to that.

It feels like a bug in the driver that corrupts memory because I see
issues with network-related things (eg. a ping crashed, but the next
  ping didn't), leading to a full-system freeze.

This machine has been happily running Ubuntu for a looong time (though
it was only recently upgraded to Ubuntu 14.04, previously it had been
running 10.04). I have not had stability issues with the machine but
plugging in the USB Ethernet reliably makes it freeze within minutes.
The symptoms also match what I saw on my machine at work.

OK, no need to let you continue to debug getting curtin partition handling
to learn about NVME.

If you're using maas 1.8, or maas 1.9; maas itself is generating storage
configuration

https://maas.ubuntu.com/docs/storage.html#storage

Ideally you don't need to inject your own custom partitioning/storage
config; you
configure maas in the UI and it emits storage configuration to curtin.

It's not clear to me how you're combining your own user-data with what MaaS
supplies.

It's hard to say; if you have the entire curtin config sent I may be able
to parse out what's going on:

maas node get-curtin-config

Boot device selection *could* be a maas issue or curtin. I suggest
opening a new bug against MAAS for the boot device selection,
and I can add a MAAS task to this one. In both places, please append
the output from the maas get-curtin-config output attached. This helps
us debug whether MAAS sent curtin valid configuration and determine
if we need to fix the bug in MAAS or curtin itself.

In _this_ bugs case; if the config you send which defines 'number' field in
the partition dictionary, then curtin will *faithfully* attempt to use
directly; ie; curtin is doing what it was told.

In the case where 'number' is not defined, curtin will attempt to determine
the
correct partition number. For NVME devices, the logic is not sufficient
since
it doesn't really know that the underlying device is an NVME and NVME
devices
use different scheme for naming partition device entries (p vs.
just )

In this bug, we will teach curtin to detect NVME devices and pick the
correct partition dev path
if the config does _NOT_ include a specified 'number' value.

I'll open a MAAS task in this bug to help track if MAAS itself needs to
know a device is an NVME
and then specify the 'number' differently ('p1' vs '1').

It's not clear to me how you're combining your own user-data with what MaaS
supplies.

It's hard to say; if you have the entire curtin config sent I may be able
to parse out what's going on:

maas node get-curtin-config

and attach to this bug.

The webapp container needs to hook to the webview’s
mediaAccessPermissionRequested signal, similar to what’s done for
geolocationPermissionRequested.
