[Bug 1571295] Re: pptpd module config loaded at wrong location

Ok, got confirmation from the Debian maintainer:

Thanks for the catch, that is indeed incomplete. Will do another
upload soon, have to sort out some other issues first.

---

That is your good catch Robie!

I have a question how to go on - what are the next steps here?
a) Do we wait until the next Debian package release is available, then merge it
and only then then create a new SRU?
b) or is that 4/5th partial fix "enough to be considered being in the Dev
release" (See #1 at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure) and
I could provide an updated/extended SRU now?

Confirmed there's a regression on 16.10 where dbus functionality is

[Bug 1604032] Re: Touchpad scrolling broken on unity8 desktop (regression)

2016-07-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Confirmed (using Apple Magic Trackpad) that two-finger scrolling is non-
responsive in webbrowser-app and System Settings. But I have also
verified that two-finger scrolling still works in Xmir and native GTK
apps. So the regression is specific to Qt.

[Bug 1604227] [NEW] Menu font size too small - not utilizing system font

2016-07-18 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
Public bug reported:

I use a monitor resolution of 1792 x 1344.
I therefore upped my system font/size to UbuntuMedium 14 (= 14 points?).

Most apps seem to notice this font/size and use it, but SMPlayer apparently
does not.
[LibreOffice also did not and looked awful (to me, at least), until I installed
some sort of GTK-related package, and now it looks snazzy]

If you look at one of the screenshots attached to my just-reported Bug #1604224,
you can see just how tiny the menu seems, compared to the size of the
icons/buttons, etc.
(By the way - the new icons/buttons introduced recently (version ~15?) look
really
nice!)

All relevent system/pkg. info is exactly as found in Bug #1604224.

[If it is too much of a pain to refer to another bug, I can copy the relevant
info and attach one of the same screenshots here into an additional comment.
Just let me know.]

[Bug 1604224] Re: Window redraw is messed up.

2016-07-18 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
I just noticed something else - if I use SMPlayer's menu, and the bounding
box(es) for the menu extend beyond the main SMPlayer box, the part that extends
beyond remains behind after I finish
using the menu. The main SMPlayer box, and the Playlist box get redrawn over
the pieces of the menu that remain.

[Bug 1604224] [NEW] Window redraw is messed up.

2016-07-18 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
Public bug reported:

Something really goofy is going on with SMplayer playing on my Lubuntu
16.04 system.

I will attach some screenshots, but let me first describe the situation
as it is happening right now.

Right now, I had played an audio (.mp3) file, having previously played a
number of video (.mp4) files maximised (I don't know if originally I
told it to maximise, or it just did so, based on the dimensions of the
video).

The box SMPlayer shows, with the controls, is occupying the upper left hand
side of the screen., but the windowbar extends the full width of the screen.
It is on Desktop #3.

If I go to Desktop #1, where I am writing this bug report in Firefox,
and then switch to Desktop #3, the image of Desktop #1 is visible behind
the SMPlayer box and Playlist box. In addition, when Lubuntu switches
Desktops, it briefly puts up a little box showing the (for me) 4
Desktops as a series of connected squares, one of which is dark colored,
and the rest white, along with the text 'Desktop x', x being the number
of the Desktop. Anyway, this is usually transient, disappearing within
a quarter of a second or so. On Desktop #3, this little box has taken
up permanent residence.

If I go to Desktop #2, which is where I have my file manager (Nemo)
window displayed, and then to Desktop #3, Now it is the file manager
window which is behind SMPlayer and Playlist boxes.

If I go to Desktop #4, which is empty except for the desktop, and switch to
Desktop #3,
now it is the desktop which is behind SMPlayer/Playlist boxes.

I assume that it is incorrect for SMPlayer to draw a small box for audio
file playback, but have the window bar for that small box go across the
whole screen.

What I don't know is who is responsible for window redraw - if it is the App
that redraws,
or if the App merely reports the dimensions of the window and gadgets etc. to
the OS, which then redraws, based on that report, or ... ?

Something is definitely wrong, though...

Re: [Bug 1603810] Re: Ubuntu turns monitor permanently off during boot

2016-07-18 Thread Jason Gunthorpe

joseph.salisb...@canonical.com> wrote:

Yes. I've done multiple reboot experiments now and have learned the bug
only happens about 80% of the time, so I did all of these will multiple
reboots each:

3.16.0-77 GOOD
3.19.0-65 GOOD
4.2.0-42 BAD
4.4.0-31 BAD

All generic versions, 4.4 was using the .efi.signed variant.

I've attached the dmesg for 3.19-65

BTW, none of the kernels manage a seamless graphical boot like Windows
does. All successes sit at black screens for a long time then transition to
the splash for maybe 0.5s then into the graphical login (after another
black screen flash). Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen
Ubuntu do this properly on any release on any hardware I've tried (at least
with EFI boot). Even my HP's at work sit at a black screen for more time
than the splash. So I don't understand why Canonical bothers with the
vt_handoff stuff, when it seems *worse* on than off. At least without
vt_handoff you get something that looks like a running computer instead of
black screen.. That said, I think it works better with BIOS boot ??

Windows 7 & 10 both do this perfectly in EFI mode, the monitor is never
black.

https://git.launchpad.net/~xmir-team/xorg-server/+git/xmir/commit/?id=f72fad2cd4b8d6fbdef0335fbfa11e2ca38d3f86

But the Xmir crash is not causing the client start-up failure. The
client start-up failure is causing the Xmir crash.

[Bug 1604219] [NEW] Install Ubuntu 16.04 via USB crashed

2016-07-18 Thread Tharakan
Public bug reported:

This is a decade old laptop and just before install saw a memtest error
... probably something in RAM. Good chances that the crash is because of
that. This bug is posted in the rare chance if its helpful to change
things such that minor RAM related errors can be worked around.. that'd
be awesome.

[Bug 1603183] Re: Right click in webbrowser-app doesn't do anything

For a moment I hit the same bug. Then I realised it was user error:

Right click in webbrowser-app only works on links and text selections.
Right clicking elsewhere on a page is apparently not meant to do
anything (and on some pages like news.google.com will act like a left
click).

[Bug 1294877] Re: Error erasing device: Unknown or unsupported erase type `'

2016-07-18 Thread Tharakan
I can confirm that the bug exists (and has a simple workaround).
Mine is an updated UbuntuMate (15.04) and while trying to create a new Bootable
USB pen drive got the same error. As mentioned elsewhere, opened up the pen
drive in fdisk, removed all partitions, created one partition as 'c' type (VFAT
...), exit, mkfs.vfat /dev/sdb1. Now when I go back and create the bootable USB
it works as expected.

My machine:
$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 15.04

BTW, I am having the issue in 14.04, after upgrading to kernel

I think we need proper instructions to sign the module, or an automated

[Bug 1603655] Re: After update, xorg will not boot

2016-07-18 Thread Steve Langasek
Given that your apport output is from the previous kernel, this line is
very suggestive:

[ 18.073838] fglrx: module verification failed: signature and/or
required key missing - tainting kernel

The 3.13.0-92 kernel is the first one in this series which implements
Ubuntu's updated SecureBoot policy, which requires specific action by
the machine administrator in order to allow unsigned modules.

You should have been prompted for this on upgrade. Do you remember
seeing such a prompt?

Can you please attach the output of the following command:
$ debconf-show shim-signed

To successfully upgrade to the new kernel, you will want to:

 - run 'sudo update-secureboot-policy', and choose to disable SecureBoot
 - run 'sudo apt-get install linux-signed-image-generic'
 - reboot to the UEFI prompts, in order to confirm the SecureBoot policy change.

[Bug 1603449] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2016-07-18 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From gws...@au1.ibm.com 2016-07-18 21:21 EDT---
Yeah, There is only one patch should be backported and it should fix the kernel
crash. The patch is backported to Ubuntu-4.4.0-31.50 and attached. Note I
checked out the base kernel code from below git repo:

git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-xenial.git (branch: master)

Another patch (as below link shows) cann't be backported to ubuntu 4.4.0
yet as the fix depends on EEH support for SRIOV which isn't there. Lets
backport it when needed.

https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=cca0e542e02e48cce541a49c4046ec094ec27c1e
. ("powerpc/eeh: Fix wrong argument passed to eeh_rmv_device()")

2016-07-18 Thread Leonardo Borda
Hi Timo,

As per the comment #9 the packages should be in -proposed but they are
not there. I can see them in
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sssd/1.11.8-0ubuntu0.2/+build/10197654
though...

Can you make it available in -proposed ?

Re: [Bug 1591868] Re: fwupd consuming 100% CPU

2016-07-18 Thread Mario Limonciello
Thanks for sharing. You seem to have two fwupd processes running in your
test. Do you get the same output if you kill -9 them first where the last
thing output was "performing init() on test"?

If so, my suspicion would be some corrupt appstream data. The only thing
that happens between loading the plugins and loading the configuration file
is that the appstream store is initialized.

Can you check if both of these report successfully?

appstreamcli validate /var/cache/app-info/xmls/fwupd.xml

appstreamcli validate /usr/share/app-info/xmls/org.freedesktop.fwupd.xml

@hughsie, any other thoughts?

[Bug 1603655] Re: After update, xorg will not boot

2016-07-18 Thread dualBootLaptop
> From a terminal window please run:

> and then change the status of the bug to 'Confirmed'.

...okay? As I said, I apt-get removed linux-
image-3.13.0-92-generic:amd64, so the system information *now* will show
that it's not installed. The information just posted is the state of the
system when it's *working*. Is that what you wanted? Or did you want me
to reinstall linux-image-3.13.0-92-generic:amd64?

If you *do* want me to reinstall linux-image-3.13.0-92-generic:amd64,
can you tell me exactly how to do it? The Software Updater is showing me
the available updates right now, and the new linux-image is not on the
list, probably because the Software Updater noticed that I manually
uninstalled it and is assuming that I don't want anything I manually
uninstalled...which is actually pretty smart, that's kind of cool. But
it means that I don't know how to reproduce the installation process.
Should I apt-get dist-upgrade?

I'm not actually completely sure how all this works. Which packages

If they are conffiles, the recommended fix I think is to remove them in

2016-07-18 Thread Rob Loach
Built ontop of wgrant's feedback, a new patch:
http://files.robloach.net/bzr-git--gpg.diff

While I understand the best way around this would be to implement the
GPG signatures in bzr, but this is affecting many projects brought into
Launchpad through bzr-git. Ignoring it may be the best option until we
can implement it correctly in the bzr space.
