Re: [Bug 1574324] Re: pulseaudio crashes when connecting to bluetooth headphones (due to ubuntu changes?)

2016-10-10 Thread Luke Yelavich
Ok, I am pretty sure it is patch 0502 in the bluez5 patch set. If I
enable only 0501 and 0502, and move some code required by 0502 from 0506
and build pulse, enabling 0502 causes Pulse to assert as previously
logged. Am in the process of digging through that patch to work out how
it changes things such that things don't work as they should... And I
don't think its just one patch hunk either. I will update when I have
more info.

2016-10-10 Thread Michael F Winthrop
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1516208 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1516208

I have resolved almost all of the problems noted above, however the method was
tedious. I found a listing of all the packages in Kubuntu 16.04. I then used
"sudo apt-get build-dep " on every package from an X-term
in the conjured GUI from xinit (above). Some packages were not present in the
first place. Many had some unmet dependencies. I answered "y" to all install
requests. After going down the list most problems were eliminated. I currently
have some bugs in kwin_x11, however nothing that stops the show.
1. Desktop icons will operate by a left double click, but not a right click and
selecting "open"I get error, malformed url.
2. The top of screen decorations of some windows are aff the screen and I have
to use to get the decorations on screen.
3. kwin_x11 will not execute in debug mode. (Makes bug reporting impossible)
4. KXStudio installed and cadence does not initialize correctly.
Re-installation did not fix it. I have to start alsa every second boot. Once
working everything is good.
5. I frequently need to do updates from a terminal because the update program
did not let me know it was going to do it.
6. Shutdown usually work normally, but sometimes it crashes. Restart always
crashes and needs a "power button" restart.

[Bug 1619919] Re: Cursor jump sometimes by touchpad button

2016-10-10 Thread s.illes79
just made an observation, it happens when I use my middle finger to move
the mouse and click with index finger. Sometimes the double touch of
middle/index finger is interpreted as mouse move, the jump is more or
less the same distance as if i had moved the index to the middle finger
position .

[Bug 1632184] Re: image build with bodhibuilder crash near end-installation

2016-10-10 Thread Paul Dufresne
After trying to reboot machine to test, an error occured and system opened me a

to test what was going on.

In it I just ran "$ gksudo ubiquity gtk_ui" and it worked flawlessly.
Same medium, same answers, but this time in the environment, in root mode.

Which suggests to me that the problem appears in non-english, while
install from GRUB.

[Bug 1631955] Re: Update e-d-s to 3.22.1

2016-10-10 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I installed the evolution-data-server packages from yakkety-proposed. I then
rebooted (because e-d-s sometimes keeps services running even after log out?).
I tried these apps and they appeared to work as well as before:
- evolution
- gnome-calendar
- gnome-contacts
- gnome-shell and its built-in calendar

I set the block-proposed tag because I believe it would have
automatically been promoted to the regular yakkety archives today
without that tag. I'll let the release team decide if they want this
update now or would rather wait a few more days.

[Bug 1632197] [NEW] display freezes after recent apt update/upgrade

2016-10-10 Thread Lionel Hampton
Public bug reported:

After a recent upgrade (which includes linux,xorg-server,compiz,unity...see

below), the display periodically freezes and is completely unresponsive
to

keyboard and mouse (other than pointer movement), after attempting to
drag a

window across the workspace. This is a problem for both of two modes of
window

dragging: ++drag and +s then drag.
Other than

when dragging windows, no other activity on the desktop/display appears
to be a

problem. The system is otherwise quite stable.

But...

In addition (and this is also new since the upgrade and probably
related), the

display and input goes dead after closing the lid on the laptop. This
happens

whether displaying the desktop, or in a virtual terminal, or when logged
out with

the login screen displayed. The display goes blank (per the usual), but
does not

go active again when the lid is raised (bad). The system is configured
to "never

suspend" and to "do nothing" when the lid is closed and to "never" turn
the screen

off due to inactivity.

The noted behavior is now on exhibit with both the upgraded kernel and
the "old"

kernel (4.4.0-38-generic and 4.4.0-36-generic, respectively). Prior to
the

upgrade, this laptop was perfectly stable (booting 4.4.0-36), and (for
what it's

worth) windows10 (ughhh) is still quite stable, suggesting that this is
not a case

of hardware gone flaky.

I strongly suspect an interaction between the upgraded compiz package
and the

upgraded xorg-server as the source of the problem, since the underlying
system

continues to operate even though the display and input are dead (deduced
by the

fact that scheduled cron jobs run to completion well after the display
has gone

dead), and because the first problem only occurs when dragging a window.
(It

would help if I were able to switch into a virtual terminal, but the
keyboard is

totally deceased.)

There is no indication of a problem in the log files that I have been
able to

discern. However, there is at least one instance of dumped core (so to
speak) by

upstart in /var/crash since the upgrade.

I realize that this is not enough detail to be of much help, and not
much of the

bug reporting docs seem to apply to this case, so please do let me know
what more

I can do to assist in tracking down the problem.

[Bug 1632194] [NEW] To much scrollbar padding to the right

2016-10-10 Thread Hans109h
Public bug reported:

Padding on all scrollbars in Thunderbird does not allow the mouse to
click the scrollbar button when all the way to the right of the screen.
Clicking in the trough results in erratic scrolling.

I was able to fix this behavior in Firefox by creating a

[Bug 1632193] [NEW] Editing of LDAP users causes blank screen

2016-10-10 Thread Adam
Public bug reported:

When editing a user, the initial edit screen is shown correctly, but
trying to save changes or click through to any of the other tabs with
user information to edit causes a blank screen. This is a known issue

I try to create a new file, everything is fine. Nothing is out of the
norm other than the fact that the window is too big (the window that
pops up when you create a new file). The window being too big prevents
me from clicking "create file" thus preventing me from even being able
to paint. I'm on a Windows 8 if that helps. I'm new to Krita.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Create a file (Ctrl+N)
2.Click on either custom document or create from clipboard
3.You will notice that you can not re-size or change the window
4.You can't click on "create file"

Actual Results:
That is exactly what happens. Everything else works (Changing background
colors, number of layers, PPI setup, etc.) except you (I can't) can't click on
"Create file" due to the window being too big and I also can not re-size the
window. I also am not able to "scroll" down the window itself. Very frustrating.

Expected Results:
Either allow said user to re-size the window or maybe have the window not be
too large?

I am on a windows 8. I downloaded it off of the Chrome browser. It is a
64-bit. Hope I helped.

Indeed I had chosen 'Install' directly in Grub (which seems to suggest
that because it is not run by root, it failed to create a temporary file
in /target/etc/default while installing language pack).

Alright then...

Does gdm let you log in to Unity7 (is it installed)? If so try that and
see if it's any smoother (which would make part of the problem the Gnome
compositor).

I have two theories at least:
1. modesetting can't deal with hiDPI very well; or
2. compiz/unity7 is falling back to software rendering under the modesetting
driver.

Can you please test #2? Just tap the Super key to open the Unity7 dash.
Is it translucent or solid coloured?

Also, failure to set correct permissions for /dev/dri/* I think is
lightdm's problem. So adding lightdm here.

[Bug 1447909] Re: external mic not detected on machines with alc256 codec

2016-10-10 Thread Hui Wang
@mmifas,

Thank you for your testing result, and It looks like the headphone
(0x21) can't detect the plug/unplug. I have no idea why this happened.

I already asked for help from Realtek technical expert, he suggested we
turn on the hidden register (0x20), then generate an alsa-info.txt.

To do so, please follow the steps as below:

1. sudo echo 1 > /sys/modules/snd_hda_codec/parameters/dump_coef

2. generate a new alsa-info.txt and upload it to launchpad. (refer to
#14).

Thanks.

[Bug 792085] Re: Automatic remount of safely removed usb 3.0 drive

2016-10-10 Thread msj
For USB 3.0 Disks, Across Ubuntu Distros. This surely needs to have
more priority.

Unless this is fixed, We noobs might simply give up on Ubuntu/Linux
altogether.

My Machine: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, NVidia Chipset, Asus X552C

Device: Seagate BackupPlus 1 TB USB POwered Ext Hard disk Issue: Ext HDD
keeps spinning(I place the palm below Ext HDD & feel the spinning is
still On), Light keeps glowing, Nautilus Left Side Panel shows the disk
is till mounted.

mount will list all mounted disks.. I used & found Seagate HDD is
mounted as /dev/sdb1 I installed udisks using apt-get & ran these 2
commands in terminal. udisks --unmount /dev/sdb1 udisks --detach
/dev/sdb

Caution***not udisks --detach /dev/sdb1, It is /dev/sdb

Now, the Nautilus Left Side Panel doesn't show the mounted icon for the
Ext HDD, but the spinning is still on.

I tried sudo umount -f /dev/sdb1

I get the error, umount2: Invalid argument umount: /dev/sdb1: not
mounted

My Problem is I've already lost 2 different 1 TB HDD's while working on
Ubuntu. Data Retrieval costs are upwards of $3.5 per GB in Bangalore
(200 INR per GB at SP Road)

Does anyone have a solution. Note: I've had the Ext HDD attached to
the laptop from past 7 days & spinning is still On.

I'm at end of my wits & can't afford to loose the data in this HDD.

[Bug 1632183] [NEW] saned not find scanner that scanimage -L finds

2016-10-10 Thread mike Bernson
Public bug reported:

When running scanimage -L on a remove system no scanner are found.
when running scanimage -L on local system (where saned is run) finds the
scanners.

when running scaned in deubg mode I can see the remote system request a list of

Hi, what makes you think it's an upstream problem?

As I mentioned, it works fine for apps run via Flatpak on the same
computer, so this very much sounds like an Ubuntu/Debian specific issue.

[Bug 1632169] [NEW] Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/elasticsearch/common/jackson/dataformat/yaml/snakeyaml/error/YAMLException

2016-10-10 Thread reanjr
Public bug reported:

Using freshly installed elasticsearch package, with START_DAEMON=true
set in /etc/default/elasticsearch, when I attempt to start the
elasticsearch service, it exits immediately with no error. I expect it
to start the elasticsearch service, and continue running.

I tracked the elasticsearch.service systemd file, which runs
/etc/init.d/elasticsearch start, which executes start-stop-daemon, which
then effectively calls the following command:

sudo -uelasticsearch /usr/share/elasticsearch/bin/elasticsearch -p
/var/run/elasticsearch.pid
-Des.default.config=/etc/elasticsearch/elasticsearch.yml
-Des.default.path.home=/usr/share/elasticsearch
-Des.default.path.logs=/var/log/elasticsearch
-Des.default.path.data=/var/lib/elasticsearch
-Des.default.path.work=/tmp/elasticsearch

When I run that command, I get the following error:

[Bug 1583853] Re: package dma 0.9-1 failed to install/upgrade: il sottoprocesso installato script di post-installation ha restituito lo stato di errore 1

2016-10-10 Thread Gordon McIntosh
I have been testing new installations of 16.04 server and desktop and
continually get the same response to do with DMA DRDY EXT and interupt 16
all fall over on installation - this has been going on for at least 2months
from 11 - Oct - 16 and appears to be caused by the installation programs If
the installation completes then inode faults start to appear and have to be
fixed manually using fsck eg: fsck /dev/sda1 this will recover lost inodes
and clear the wrong count but as soon as the system is rebooted they start to
appear again The problem needs to be corrected at the installation files as
most times it is impossible to successfully update from the installation.
Regards
Gordon McIntosh

[Bug 1631519] Re: No X on boot with external monitor connected

2016-10-10 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
I managed to reproduce it once trying to move from the on-laptop miniDP
connector to the dock's full-size DP connector -- then I had a black
background (well, no backgound) and the window trails.

It looks to me like an issue in compiz, but it might really be X. In
doubt, I'm not going to change this and let someone more knowledgeable
than me investigate this further.

If anything needs to be attempted, my X230 doesn't ever run anything
important (I use it for running installer tests, etc.), so I can do
further testing (and reinstalls).

[Bug 1631519] Re: No X on boot with external monitor connected

2016-10-10 Thread Robert C Jennings
These are working with 16.04 perfectly, I updated to 16.10 and had to
restore from backups to get back to 16.10. Then I booted from the live-
cd to capture this bug.

Scenarios:
 1. mDP to HDMI cable connected to a 1080p monitor (Dell E248Wfp); that is the
simple example and they all fail with the same result.
 2. same Dell via DP2 on the doc using a DP to single-link DVI adapter (like
http://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=104_id=10428_id=1042801_id=4827)
 3. DP2 on the doc connected to a Shimian LCD running at 2560x1440 connected
via a Dell (BizLink) DisplayPort to DVI Dual Link Adapter (like
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-BIZLINK-DisplayPort-Adapter-Powered/dp/B003XYBA72).
But I didn't want to confuse the issue with that more niche bit of hardware.

[Bug 1632165] Re: modesetting driver unbearably slow on MacBookPro12, 1

2016-10-10 Thread Michael Gratton
A few more points about this. When I first stated looking into this, I
found Xorg reporting a few things:

 - No access to /dev/fb0 (since I wasn't in the video group)
 - Acceleration seemed to be disabled

However after adding myself to the video group (for access to the FB and
DRI devices), and explicitly enabling glamor accel, performance remained
terrible after logout/login.

After switching back to the intel driver, performance very noticeably
improved.

The attached Xorg log is using modesetting, after the two tweaks were
made above.

[Bug 1629661] Re: Hissing sound in headphones

2016-10-10 Thread LGB [Gábor Lénárt]
** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Opinion => Confirmed

** Description changed:

Ubuntu 16.04 on 64 bit produces hissing sound (just by my - far from
being 'musical' - ear, it sounds like a sinus wave with frequency about
1KHz or so) on headphones. Interestingly, after boot this does not
happen and usually can be hear only after the first application which
makes any sound (but not always, sometimes it starts later). But if any
time it starts, it remains, whatever I do, exiting the application
(which makes the sound) even by killing pulseaudio process, etc. I've
read a lot on this issue but usually - it seems - always notebook
problems mentioned, however it's a desktop machine (Asrock FM2A88M
extreme4+ motherboard, AMD A6-6400K CPU, integrated audio). It seems it
uses snd_hda_intel kernel module though. I've tried advices mentioned by
various resources throughout the net, disabling powersave problems,
using hdajackretask from alsa-tools-gui, etc, but they didn't help.

[Bug 1632165] [NEW] modesetting driver unbearably slow on MacBookPro12, 1

2016-10-10 Thread Michael Gratton
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Yakkey, I found the graphics performance of my
MacBookPro12,1 (13", 2015, retina/hidpi display) became unbearably slow
- switching workspaces, playing games, even just scrolling web browser
tabs was visibly slower. The computer became constantly warm, and
battery life dropped.

Switching from using from modesetting back to the intel driver fixed
these problems.

[Bug 1632162] [NEW] Slow LibreOffice Calc file save operations

2016-10-10 Thread mister_russ
Public bug reported:

When saving a large spread sheet (209k) with lots of comments, Calc
(LibreOffice) take 50 minutes to save the file on the first attempt. The
screen goes gray and we wait. Once completed, a second save with take
about 12 seconds.

Also screen movement from cell to cell is jerky. If a page
up/down/left/right is executed, again the screen locks up as the program
pans a few spaces at a time. Painfully slow. Make using the application
impossible.

This did not happen with with the same file in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. It
would take 10 seconds to complete the save. Cursor movement around the
screen was crisp.

1- Ubuntu Release 16.04 LTS
2- Version: 5.2.2.2
   Build ID: 1:5.2.2-0ubuntu1~xenial0
   CPU Threads: 2; OS Version: Linux 4.4; UI Render: default;
   Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); Calc: group

[Bug 1631519] Re: No X on boot with external monitor connected

2016-10-10 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
I've tried this on my own Lenovo Thinkpad X230 (also a 2306CTO), and I
can't reproduce the issue at all. I've tried both the dock's full-sized
DP connector and miniDP on the laptop itself (undocked), both work with
no issues at all, and no artifacts on the external screen (or the panel,
for that matter).

I have no idea what causes this. Perhaps we're dealing with a monitor
that claims to support some resolutions it doesn't really like? The
monitor I use is a fairly good Dell P2210, but doesn't apparently
confirm to EDID 1.3 (but still works correctly).

** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => Incomplete

[Bug 1631996] Re: syntax error: EEXISTS should be EEXIST

2016-10-10 Thread Serge Hallyn
** Description changed:

  https://github.com/ansible/ansible-modules-core/issues/2585

This is fixed in yakkety but broken in xenial. The single-line fix
  should be SRU'd.
+
+ Impact: when the file module fails, ansible fails trying to report the erorr
message.
+ Test case:
+ ansible 127.0.0.1 -m file -a "path=/mp/xx state=directory mode=0755"
+ This should show permission denied, but instead fails saying "There was an
issue creating /mp as requested: 'module' object has no attribute 'EEXISTS'"

Just like Ubuntu itself, upstream releases long term support releases,
as is 2.0 and then periodic point releases including all the accumulated
bugfixes.

Only the latest upstream release gets full support from the upstream
developers, everyone else is expected to first update to it before
receiving any kind of support.

This bugfix release has already been uploaded to Yakkety and
automatically backported in the upstream PPAs for all Ubuntu releases.
So far without any reported regression.

This should qualify under the minor upstream bugfix release allowance of
the SRU policy, letting us SRU this without paperwork for every single
change included in this upstream release.

Once the SRU hits -updates, we will be backporting this to trusty-
backports as well, making sure we have the same version everywhere.

[Bug 1630994] Re: installation crashed

2016-10-10 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. While we appreciate the difficulties you are facing, it
would appear that the image (ISO file) you downloaded could be corrupt.
There is an easy way to verify the integrity of the Ubuntu ISO files you
download. Could you please visit
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM follow the instructions
and report back as to whether or not the MD5SUM verified? Thanks in
advance.

[Bug 1632151] [NEW] When ubiquity is in maybe-ubiquity or only-ubiquity, there is no way to access tty2-6

2016-10-10 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

 * When launching "Install Ubuntu" or when present with try or install
ubuntu screen, one cannot login on tty2-6.

 * This impacts debugging facilities during installation.

 * It appears that getty.target is not required by ubiquity, therefore
gettys on tty2-6 are not spawned, and no users are allowed to login.

[Test Case]

 * Boot Ubuntu Desktop CD

 * Select "Install Ubuntu" in the isolinux menu, or the UEFI menu

 * When presented with ubiquity screen, press Ctrl-Alt-F2 to open up
tty2

 * Login as user "ubuntu" with no password. If login prompt never
appears (current behaviour) this bug is still present.

[Regression Potential]

 * I have not tested this change in the OEM mode yet

[Potential fix]
 * Add to ubiquity.service [Unit] section
  After=getty@tty1.service
  Conflicts=getty@tty1.service
  Requires=getty.target

[Bug 996646] Re: Evolution mbox export broken

2016-10-10 Thread Max_E
The Precise release is coming close to EOL, so I'm sure some people
(like me) are panicking and trying to migrate their email to new systems
before April. Therefore, I'd like to report how I worked around this
issue in case anyone finds it useful. It's based on a modified version
of the directions in comment #3.

However, if you happen to need a 32-bit version of the fixed
libevolution package, then just install the one I've attached. If you
need a 64-bit version, then AntoineM has built one in comment #4
(although I haven't tested it.) The rest of this is just in case you
need to build your own fixed package.

First of all, here's a direct link to the upstream patch to fix the
issue: [1] the link in AntoineM's post doesn't work anymore; I think due
to a hash collision in Evolution's git history, it goes to the wrong
commit. But this link seems to work for me, for anyone who needs the
patch. However, if it still doesn't work for you, look through their
commit logs for commits during Febuary 2, 2012. The one you want is
called "Bug 667576 - Junk between messages after saving an mbox file."

Second of all, between when Evolution 3.2.3 was released and when the bugfix
was written, the Evolution team appear to have moved their files around. In the
older version, the e-mail-folder-utils.c file is in the "mail" directory
instead of in "libemail-engine." So to patch it I did
cd evolution-3.2.3/mail
patch -p2 https://git.gnome.org/browse/evolution/patch/?id=df3495a6ec99d53beeaac6b9a2fde8dfd356c439

** Attachment added: "libevolution_3.2.3-0ubuntu6_i386.deb"

[Bug 1630327] Re: Ubiquity crashes during final configuration if user requests encrypted home partition

2016-10-10 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Can you still reproduce this? I've tried to do this today on the
development release's daily image, and the install completes with no
issues.

The issue I see for now is that there are not enough of the logs to tell
what went on. If you can reproduce the issue, could you please attach
/var/log/syslog and /target/var/log/syslog to this bug report?

Otherwise, you could also try to add "debug-ubiquity" at the end of the
kernel command-line when you boot the image, by hitting F6 when you see
the initial boot menu, and typing it in just before the "---". Following
that, /var/log/installer/debug should contain lots of debugging
information from the installer.

Thanks!

I am using Unified Linux Driver, from Samsung's HP, since the printer
was not able to print without it. After installing it, the printer was
automatically discovered and I could print one page. After that, the
printer goes automatically to disabled state. Re-enabling it does not
work, since it is disable few seconds later.

The printer used to work normally up to last week, when my computer was
still running Ubuntu 14.04 (and Samsung Linux Driver).

change included in this upstream release.

Once the SRU hits -updates, we will be backporting this to trusty-
backports as well, making sure we have the same version everywhere.
