[Bug 1638695] Re: Python 2.7.12 performance regression

2016-11-17 Thread Jorge Niedbalski
Hello,

I am in the process of verifying this performance regression on a 16.04
Xenial machine using the kernel Linux-4.4.0-38.

I ran a locally compiled python 2.7.12 version built with different
versions of GCC, 5.3.1 (current) and 4.8.0 both coming from the Ubuntu
archives.

The benchmark suite I am using is the pyperformance suite
(https://github.com/python/performance), I am running the full test
suite, using the following command:

$ pyperformance run --python=python2 -o xxx.json

According to the latest test run i did using Python 2.7.12/GCC 4.8
(using GCC 5.3.1 as the baseline), 50% of the tests (32/64) have a
significant variance in performance from which 19/32 are slower (in
times ranging from 5-15%).

Just for information, I am comparing results using the following
command:

$ pyperformance compare python-2.7.12-gcc-5.3.1.json
python-2.7.12-gcc-4.8.0.json

I am attaching here the current comparison results for analysis.

Evidently a newer ubuntu-app-launch package mismatches with the older

2016-11-17 Thread Anton Marchukov
I was able to get Yubikey 4 working by reinserting it. Also I checked
and sounds like it works with e.g. U2F and GPG without reinsertion, so
it has some kind of multi-function support.

Closing as Invalid. Sounds like not Ubuntu software problem.

[Bug 1639202] Re: Cannot enlist/commission machines in MAAS 2.1 with usb network adapter

2016-11-17 Thread Dave Chiluk
Please ignore the comment from brad-figg as the above comment originated
from a bot.

That being said, I've had a bit of an opportunity to research this.
Initramfs-tools is responsible for updating the initramfs and including
modules in the initramfs. Unfortunately I don't think that adding
usbnet and cdc_ether to the default initramfs produced by the distro is
the correct course of action on this case.

That being said, it may be possible to create the maas images with all
network modules in it as that would make more sense, in my opinion. I
guess this is why Andre originally opened this against maas-images.

[Bug 1637030] Re: hostnamectl changes hostname without password

2016-11-17 Thread Marc Deslauriers
systemd ships with a policykit file which allows the system
administrator to set the hostname.

The policykit file is located here:
/usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.hostname1.policy

and in the systemd source here:
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/blob/master/src/hostname/org.freedesktop.hostname1.policy.in

This behaviour is by design.

Please file a bug with the upstream systemd project if you believe this
should be changed. Thanks.

[Bug 1640939] Re: help

2016-11-17 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System ->
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

[Bug 1642068] Re: snapd memory sizes grows huge over time

2016-11-17 Thread Gustavo Niemeyer
Did you did into that problem? I don't see the potential leak looking at
the function. All of the arguments other than *ThreadStart are allocated
in the stack, and ts is freed on threadentry which is the function
provided as the start_routine parameter of pthread_create.

What is the actual issue reported?

to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security

[Bug 1642366] Re: idk what this is

Thanks!

[Bug 1641259] [NEW] xfce4-terminal shows password visibly in clear between attempts and accepts (updated Nov. 17th)

2016-11-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

You have been subscribed to a public security bug by Marc Deslauriers
(mdeslaur):

Corrected copy and pasted info Nov. 17th.

If written quickly after a failed attempt xfce4-terminal shows password
visibly in actual characters and accepts the password.

Example (the word "pass" is the password):

brett@BrettPC:~$ sudo su
[sudo] password for brett:
pass
Sorry, try again.
[sudo] password for brett:
root@BrettPC:/home/brett#

To clarify I did not enter a password the second time it sad "[sudo]
password for brett:" it simply accepted the one shown visibly.

[Bug 1642573] [NEW] Xenial update to 4.4.32 stable release

2016-11-17 Thread Luis Henriques
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The 4.4.32 upstream stable
patch set is now available. It should be included in the Ubuntu
   kernel as well.

   git://git.kernel.org/

TEST CASE: TBD

The following patches from the 4.4.32 stable release shall be
applied:

tcp: fix overflow in __tcp_retransmit_skb()
net: avoid sk_forward_alloc overflows

[Bug 1642068] Re: snapd memory sizes grows huge over time

2016-11-17 Thread Colin Ian King

creation at the C/Go interface layer, as mentioned in comment #5. I
suspect that's an issue that needs fixing with the Go layering glue

[Bug 1641615] Re: gnutls api breakage in 3.5.6

2016-11-17 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Ok, gnutls backport "complete" although we should jump on gnutls 3.5.7
whenever it gets released IMHO.

I prepped the gnutls fix as debdiff and the backpedal on libvirt which takes
back our tries to get around the issue.
Attaching both now.

[Bug 1642068] Re: snapd memory sizes grows huge over time

2016-11-17 Thread Gustavo Niemeyer
@Colin, Sure it definitely needs to be improved. As I said above, this
is just a cheap way to get us going, and the proper fix is a
transactional storage on disk.

@Mark, Yes, we can prune based on number of changes as well. It's not
expensive. That's a good trick to get us going farther.

@John, 2MB / (10 tasks * 180 changes) is in the ballpark of 1kb per
task. That's not unrealistic I think. Also worth noting it's not just
plain data.. there will be a small amount of additional garbage created
per entry when processing it.

[Bug 1642568] [NEW] URL gets truncated when ctrl + clicking if partly visible

2016-11-17 Thread Sebastian
Public bug reported:

Reproducing
---
1. Start gnome-terminal.
2. Type enough to activate scrolling (eg. hit enter about 24 times for default
size).
3. Enter enough characters to get almost to end of line, then type an URL, e.g.
"https://www.ubuntu.com/";. The line should wrap somewhere in the URL.
4. Scroll up one line, so that only the first part of the URL is visible, e.g.
5. Ctrl + click the URL.

Expected Result
---
Web browser opens with the complete URL, e.g. "https://www.ubuntu.com/";.

Actual Result
-
Web browser opens with the truncated URL, e.g. "https://www.u";.

Further Information
---
The bug does not occur if the second line (with the last bit of the URL) is
visible. I tried with both Firefox (49.0.2) and Chrome (54.0.2840.90) with the
same result.

[Bug 1642558] [NEW] LXD - stateful stop hanging

2016-11-17 Thread Rick Box
Public bug reported:

Originally when performing a migration or an LXD stateful stop the
system simply sits and waits around. It looks like CRIU has executed a
command then nothing happens after waiting any length of time, until the
command is stopped with ctrl + c.

After leaving the system overnight now just redid it to try this and it
actually stopped the system but then failed to start it, so the
following error is from the system failing to restart the container.

[Bug 1642068] Re: snapd memory sizes grows huge over time

2016-11-17 Thread John Lenton
Unless I'm misreading something, it's growing at about 2MB every 60 sec.
180 changes should use a *lot* less than 2MB. So there probably is
something else going on...

Is pruning expensive? Could we set a bound on the number of unsuccessful
transactions in the system and prune when that is reached? So the number
is bounded in time (3 days) and in length?

[Bug 1622782] Re: 'snap install' return code unhelpful

2016-11-17 Thread Jacek Nykis
One important note - exit code 1 is still error so your PR:
https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/pull/2292

does not address root cause.

It will allow for another way to detect "snap already installed" failure (using
exit code rather than string) but calls like this will still cause traceback:
subprocess.check_call(["snap", "insatll", "snapname"])

[Bug 1638373] Re: End marker/start marker drop-down menus are empty

2016-11-17 Thread Cefn
As a workaround I downloaded libpoppler58 .deb and the libpng12 .deb
which it required, then put them in the same folder and ran from that
folder in terminal...

sudo dpkg -i libpoppler58_0.41.0-0ubuntu1.1_i386.deb
libpng12-0_1.2.54-1ubuntu1_i386.deb

...before attempting to install Inkscape stable again which succeeded.

Please note, my architecture is i386 and yours may be different, so
download the correct matching .debs for your platform. I searched for
Xenial packages in each case.

Seems libpoppler58 can live alongside libpoppler61 if necessary -
nothing needed to be downgraded or uninstalled that I could see and
Inkscape stable seemed to launch and run OK after this.

[Bug 1311316] Re: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock

2016-11-17 Thread Chris BB
running 16.04.1
Fujitsu Lifebook E752
single head.
no screensaver that i know of.

i don't use locking, but when returning from sleep the screen is locked.
so far, most of the times the pw-field is there, but not usable.
i also think that there should be icons in the top right corner and a clock
maybe? the space is empty.
just now i had a case of pw-field missing altogether. found this bug. did not
find any newer bug, so i post here.

initially recovered with workaround "unity --replace" which made the PW-
field show up. i could unlock the desktop, seemed fine.

now desktop totally screwed up: alt-tab unresponsive, launcher missing, top-bar
missing, whole thing looks funny. mouse works, can use scroll-wheel and mark
text in a left-over, fullscreen terminal, but not type..
put computer back to sleep, woke up again, now got a gray box that says "Chris"
(my username) "Password", a field and button s switch user and unlock. never
saw that before. might be because i tried to use described locking procedure
(ctrl-alt-l) which was suggesting to fix some things, which did not seem to
work.
typed PW, screen went away. back to screwed up desktop.
keyboard seemed useless. noticed that ctrl-n opens file-browser. works
repeatedly. with those windows open, i can use alt-tab to switch between these
new windows. browser, netbeans, thunderbird (should all be still living in the
background) are not presented.
task-switcher looks funny, too. just a row of images and a box around the
middle one.
used file-browser to start a video. worked. can now use alt-tab to switch
between file-browser and videoplayer.

i am a noob. if you need something, tell me.

[Bug 1632451] Re: Cant refresh snap after disable, enable packet.

2016-11-17 Thread Michael Vogt
I can reproduce this with the 2.16 release of snapd. It looks like its
loosing the "snap-id" on disable/enable.

However with the 2.17.1 release available in xenial-proposed and
yakkety-proposed this bug is no longer reproducible. The fix is part of
the 6930f996dc7fd42a1ca610fe0fcfa1b7a20f24c9 commit (sideinfo got
dropped on Enable).
