[Bug 1653201] [NEW] 3.13 kernel has a broken overlay module which does not handle symlinks correctly

2016-12-29 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Public bug reported:

>From brauner's commit message in lxc repository [1]

"The 3.13 kernel has a broken overlay module which does not handle
symlinks correctly."

This is now causing the lxc-tests (1.0.9-0ubuntu1) in kernel SRU failed
with the lxc-test-unpriv test case.

Note, the older version 1.0.9-0ubuntu1 works fine

[Bug 1653200] [NEW] Inconsistent use of defaults

2016-12-29 Thread Gabriel Burca
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
MediaTomb version: 0.12.1-47-g7ab7616-1ubuntu2

The contents of /etc/default/mediatomb are used by 3 start-up scripts,
but the usage is inconsistent.

/etc/init/mediatomb.conf expects variables NOT to be prefixed with "MT_"
(ex: INTERFACE vs MT_INTERFACE).

/etc/init.d/mediatomb expects "MT_" prefixed variables, except for the
OPTIONS variable, and ignores the MT_PORT variable.

/lib/systemd/system/mediatomb.service expects "MT_" prefixed variables,
ignores the OPTIONS variable, and expect the port to be in the MT_PORT
variable.

Since the interface is also specified in the /etc/mediatomb/config.xml
file, perhaps the MT_INTERFACE variable should be removed to reduce
confusion.

I'm not sure why all 3 start-up scripts are installed, but at least they
should behave consistently if they all use the same defaults file.

[Bug 1653193] [NEW] Can't build if behind a proxy server

2016-12-29 Thread cleary
Public bug reported:

There's no option for specifying proxies using the ubuntu-default-image
script

I've attached a patch - it fully supports http proxy support being
passed to live-build, I've added cursory bash env variable support for
https_proxy and ftp_proxy too, but these just get set as bash vars in
the script, and go no further.

Normally I would agree with you, but there is also the fact that they
actually told you to do this on their website. I actually did this long
ago (relatively) and didn't know the repercussions. Isn't it possible to
remove any existing diversion during upgrade?

[Bug 1653162] Re: System won't boot after upgrade to 16.04 with 4.4.0 kernel

2016-12-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Jon Schewe, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

As per www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-
support/product/poweredge-1800/drivers?os=biosa an update to your
computer's buggy, insecure, and outdated BIOS is available (A08). When
you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate how does this improve the
situation?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

Also, you don't have to create a new report.

It is most helpful that after the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still
reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on how this improves the
situation.
3) Please mark this report Status Confirmed.

If it's not reproducible, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your help.

2016-12-29 Thread Axel Beckert
Comment #3 only works if you added a diversion _manually_.

I consider comments #5 to #7 being a confirmation that this is not a bug
in the package, but caused by the local administrators having added
local diversions themselves.

[Bug 1490349] Re: 15:10 and 16.04: bluetoothd reports "Not enough handles to register service" at start

2016-12-29 Thread Ubfan
On Lenovo w520, Ubuntu 16.04, kernel 4.4.0-57-generic, bluez 5.37-0ubuntu5,
unity desktop.
Same error messages relating to "Not enough free handles to register service".
Resuming from suspend results in bluetooth icon in title bar grayed out,
bluetooth switch is OFF, and bt mouse non-functional. Invoking the bluetooth
settings from the icon shows bt switch ON. From the settings, turn bluetooth
OFF, then ON again, then in the title bar icon, turn bluetooth ON also, then
the mouse will connect. Happens 10-20% of the time resuming from suspend,
greatly improved from kernel 4.4.0-32.

[Bug 1653179] [NEW] dpdk-dev incorrect symlink under $RTE_SDK

2016-12-29 Thread Patrick MacArthur
Public bug reported:

$ ls -l /usr/share/dpdk/x86_64-default-linuxapp-gcc/lib/librte_eal.a
ls: cannot access
'/usr/share/dpdk/x86_64-default-linuxapp-gcc/lib/librte_eal.a': No such file or
directory
$ ls -l
/usr/share/dpdk/x86_64-default-linuxapp-gcc/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/librte_eal.a

/usr/share/dpdk/x86_64-default-linuxapp-gcc/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/librte_eal.a

This prevents SPDK from building since it expects the libraries at that
location.

I think the fix is just removing the symlink that DPDK installs and
replacing it with the correct one.

[Bug 1653056] Re: kimchi never finishes installing even after an hour when the other 150 megabytes of packages took 5 minutes

2016-12-29 Thread Brendan Perrine
I have found something else that is interesting is that a script was
opening to setup kimchi was never finishing because of a typo missing
two dashes. /var/lib/dpkg/info/postinst on if installing you need to
have dpkg --configure instead of dpkg configure. Seems like a minor typo
and could maybe need to be upstreamed from debian?

[Bug 1637140] Re: package amavisd-new (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2016-12-29 Thread JKMore
I have find the solution for the failed update:
Here is the solution.
For those who are new to Ubuntu OS. Please follow this step.
(1) Use Administration under system
(2) click Synaptic package manager as Superuser.
(3) under search or/quick filter--- type "amavisd-new, unmarked both
amavisd-new and amavisd-new mailfilter for complete uninstalled.
(4) When it finished uninstalled restart your system and you are done.

(5) Use your ubuntu updater again as superuser, to check any new update if
there is any. The updater will install for you. When finished restart your
system and you are done.
Bravo.

I guess update fail because there is duplicate file system preventing the new
update to be installed.
Good luck.

approach before submitting a fix upstream.

[Bug 1652764] Re: [Patch] Unmatched named lines

2016-12-29 Thread Eric Desrochers
Also you could have a look at the current logwatch upstream git repo and
see if there is already a commit that address the situation you are
fixing yourself before submitting upstream.

I did a quick search and I found a major rework for named report, which might
solve the situation...
I think it's worth looking at the existing git repo and see if problem is solve
already.

If it already in place in logwatch git, then you can request a backport
in Xenial and other affected releases.

If not already in place, then submit your fix upstream, and then once
approve/merged we can then backport it into Ubuntu affected releases.

* Upstream repo :

$ git clone git://git.code.sf.net/p/logwatch/git logwatch-git

* Potential candidate that IMHO is worth reviewing:

commit 22c55d1246c8d2295e416105b0bef695349fcb04

[named] Major rework for named report

- Catch connection timed out zone transfer failures
- Catch zone expired and other messages that have view names
- Move important messages/errors to the top of the report
- Always report deniend zone transfers
- Ignore client signer approved messages

resulting window has a geometry of 200x200, and the corresponding
thumbnail still gives rise to the reported artefact. Same problem with
any other top-level window having a sufficiently small size.

Alternative solution: Change
org.compiz.profiles.mate.plugins.thumbnail.border from the value 12 to
19 (or higher).

With this patch, I could no longer reproduce that annoying thumbnail
artefact, regardless of whether the change proposed by David Black was
in effect or not.

BTW: IMHO, the shadow effect generated by the original offset value of 6
(for active-shadow-x-offset, active-shadow-y-offset, inactive-
shadow-x-offset and inactive-shadow-y-offset) looks better than the one
corresponding to the proposed offset value of 2). Of course, this is
just matter of taste.

[Bug 1480673] Re: [ELAN 3320KD-3100] Asus T300 CHI bluetooth Touchpad is recognized incorrectly

2016-12-29 Thread er453r
Did some more digging.

- Kernel 4.10-rc1 - the same
- /dev/input/eventX - does not even fire multitouch events, so no luck here
- Tried sniffing bluetooth data with hcidump - and, oddly, this does not fire
multitouch events also!

So probably, the driver has to request multitouch support from the
device explicitly, which does not happen, Can't find any technical
documentation for the touchpad microcontroller so I think we are out of
luck

[Bug 1653162] Re: System won't boot after upgrade to 16.04 with 4.4.0 kernel

2016-12-29 Thread Jon Schewe
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected xenial

** Description changed:

I have a Dell PowerEdge 1800 with Dell CERC 1.5/6ch RAID controller in
it. Everything worked fine under Ubuntu 14.04.1. When I upgraded to
16.04.1 the system won't boot. It can't find the root filesystem. I see
errors about host adapter dead on the screen many times. This is with
kernel 4.4.0-57 and with 4.8.0-32. When I switch back to kernel
3.13.0-105 the system boots just fine.

  I have mptbios 5.06.04.
The CERC card says bios version 4.1-0 [Build 7403]

When booting into the ercovery kernel I'm getting error messages about host
adapter dead.
  Eventually I get a message:
"aacraid: aac_fib_send: first asynchronous command timed out.
Usually a result of a PCI interrupt routing problem
update moher board BIOS or consider utilizing one of
the SAFE mode kernel options (acpi, apic etc)"

Using kernel parameter "intel_iommu=on" doesn't help. This was suggested on a
post that I saw about these errors.

  Booting with "noapic" didn't help.
Booting with "noapic noacpi" didn't help.

I've also tried the dkms modules from Adaptec and that doesn't seem to help
either.

I can't figure out how to upgrade the firmware or BIOS on the system from
Ubuntu either.

[Bug 1650835] Re: wifi association times out while typing password

2016-12-29 Thread Markhor
I suffer from this problem too. It is very annoying. I always have to
hurry typing or NM drops the connection attempt and the window which
asks for the password becomes orphaned.

I guess there must be some hardcoded timeout in NM.

[Bug 1651396] Re: Backup fails every time after one incremental file is possibly corrupted

2016-12-29 Thread Nathanaël Naeri
To create a new full backup, simply backup to a new location, or move
the files in the current location to some other place. Déjà Dup will
detect the absence of previous backups and start a new full backup.

The backup location is the directory that stores the duplicity files
that Déjà Dup produces (compressed and possibly encrypted
duplicity-... files). For
instance ftp://user@server:port/path/to/backup/location.

You may also want to run the incremental backup that fails, from the
command line, with verbose output, to try and understand what leads to
that failure, and help triage this bug, because right now we
unfortunately don't know enough to reproduce or fix it:

  $ DEJA_DUP_DEBUG=1 deja-dup --backup

As Aaron said Déjà Dup is a good balance between ease of use and
reliability. Since it is a front-end to duplicity, I would recommend
using duplicity directly for more reliability (see manpage for usage).
You would then avoid all the potential front-end bugs.

scsi_scan=sync -> didn't help

For now I'm just booting the 3.13.0 kernel since I need the server up

[Bug 1653162] [NEW] System won't boot after upgrade to 16.04 with 4.4.0 kernel

2016-12-29 Thread Jon Schewe
Public bug reported:

[Bug 1653056] Re: kimchi never finishes installing even after an hour when the other 150 megabytes of packages took 5 minutes

2016-12-29 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for taking your time to report this issue and help making Ubuntu
better.

I can confirm this isse with kimchi 1.5.0-0ubuntu1, and also ran into to
the same issue when I attempted to install it on Ubuntu Zesty. The
installation process downloaded all packages, set up plenty of others,
but when it came to "Setting up kimchi" it didn't seem to progress any
further. Not sure why it seems to take forever.
