[Bug 1653201] [NEW] 3.13 kernel has a broken overlay module which does not handle symlinks correctly
Public bug reported: >From brauner's commit message in lxc repository [1] "The 3.13 kernel has a broken overlay module which does not handle symlinks correctly." This is now causing the lxc-tests (1.0.9-0ubuntu1) in kernel SRU failed with the lxc-test-unpriv test case. Note, the older version 1.0.9-0ubuntu1 works fine [1] https://github.com/lxc/lxc/commit/90e4eead72be090a95ef343edde009579ea876a9 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: linux-image-3.13.0-106-generic 3.13.0-106.153 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-106.153-generic 3.13.11-ckt39 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-106-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.23 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC1: kernel 1652 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: kernel 1652 F pulseaudio CRDA: country TW: (2402 - 2472 @ 40), (3, 27) (5270 - 5330 @ 40), (3, 17), DFS (5735 - 5815 @ 40), (3, 30) CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Fri Dec 30 02:36:47 2016 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=1f9745fc-dd5d-4bf1-b6d8-b1ccbdb8bcb4 InstallationDate: Installed on 2016-12-14 (15 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Release amd64 (20140722.2) MachineType: Dell Inc. [Bug 1653200] [NEW] Inconsistent use of defaults
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS MediaTomb version: 0.12.1-47-g7ab7616-1ubuntu2 The contents of /etc/default/mediatomb are used by 3 start-up scripts, but the usage is inconsistent. /etc/init/mediatomb.conf expects variables NOT to be prefixed with "MT_" (ex: INTERFACE vs MT_INTERFACE). /etc/init.d/mediatomb expects "MT_" prefixed variables, except for the OPTIONS variable, and ignores the MT_PORT variable. /lib/systemd/system/mediatomb.service expects "MT_" prefixed variables, ignores the OPTIONS variable, and expect the port to be in the MT_PORT variable. Since the interface is also specified in the /etc/mediatomb/config.xml file, perhaps the MT_INTERFACE variable should be removed to reduce confusion. I'm not sure why all 3 start-up scripts are installed, but at least they should behave consistently if they all use the same defaults file. ** Affects: mediatomb (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1653200 Title: Inconsistent use of defaults To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mediatomb/+bug/1653200/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Jon Schewe, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product- support/product/poweredge-1800/drivers?os=biosa an update to your computer's buggy, insecure, and outdated BIOS is available (A08). When you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate how does this improve the situation? For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. Also, you don't have to create a new report. It is most helpful that after the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible: 1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an apport-collect): sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date 2) Please make a comment specifically advising on how this improves the situation. 3) Please mark this report Status Confirmed. Also you could have a look at the current logwatch upstream git repo and see if there is already a commit that address the situation you are fixing yourself before submitting upstream. [Bug 1606369] Re: Compiz ‘Thumbnail Window Previews’ artefacts (further fix +)
The solution proposed by David Black won't eliminate all artefacts related to the thumbnail window previews. To see this, apply the proposed solution and then just type "wish" in a MATE-Terminal. The resulting window has a geometry of 200x200, and the corresponding thumbnail still gives rise to the reported artefact. Same problem with any other top-level window having a sufficiently small size. Alternative solution: Change org.compiz.profiles.mate.plugins.thumbnail.border from the value 12 to 19 (or higher). With this patch, I could no longer reproduce that annoying thumbnail artefact, regardless of whether the change proposed by David Black was in effect or not. BTW: IMHO, the shadow effect generated by the original offset value of 6 (for active-shadow-x-offset, active-shadow-y-offset, inactive- shadow-x-offset and inactive-shadow-y-offset) looks better than the one corresponding to the proposed offset value of 2). [Bug 1653162] Re: System won't boot after upgrade to 16.04 with 4.4.0 kernel
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected xenial ** Description changed: I have a Dell PowerEdge 1800 with Dell CERC 1.5/6ch RAID controller in it. Everything worked fine under Ubuntu 14.04.1. When I upgraded to 16.04.1 the system won't boot. It can't find the root filesystem. I see errors about host adapter dead on the screen many times. This is with kernel 4.4.0-57 and with 4.8.0-32. When I switch back to kernel 3.13.0-105 the system boots just fine. I have mptbios 5.06.04. The CERC card says bios version 4.1-0 [Build 7403] When booting into the ercovery kernel I'm getting error messages about host adapter dead. Eventually I get a message: "aacraid: aac_fib_send: first asynchronous command timed out. Usually a result of a PCI interrupt routing problem update moher board BIOS or consider utilizing one of the SAFE mode kernel options (acpi, apic etc)" Using kernel parameter "intel_iommu=on" doesn't help. This was suggested on a post that I saw about these errors. Booting with "noapic" didn't help. Booting with "noapic noacpi" didn't help. I've also tried the dkms modules from Adaptec and that doesn't seem to help either. I can't figure out how to upgrade the firmware or BIOS on the system from Ubuntu either. [Bug 1651396] Re: Backup fails every time after one incremental file is possibly corrupted
To create a new full backup, simply backup to a new location, or move the files in the current location to some other place. Déjà Dup will detect the absence of previous backups and start a new full backup. The backup location is the directory that stores the duplicity files that Déjà Dup produces (compressed and possibly encrypted duplicity-... files). For instance ftp://user@server:port/path/to/backup/location. You may also want to run the incremental backup that fails, from the command line, with verbose output, to try and understand what leads to that failure, and help triage this bug, because right now we unfortunately don't know enough to reproduce or fix it: $ DEJA_DUP_DEBUG=1 deja-dup --backup As Aaron said Déjà Dup is a good balance between ease of use and reliability. Since it is a front-end to duplicity, I would recommend using duplicity directly for more reliability (see manpage for usage). You would then avoid all the potential front-end bugs. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1651396 Title: Backup fails every time after one incremental file is possibly corrupted To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/deja-dup/+bug/1651396/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1653162] [NEW] System won't boot after upgrade to 16.04 with 4.4.0 kernel
Public bug reported: I have a Dell PowerEdge 1800 with Dell CERC 1.5/6ch RAID controller in it.
