[Bug 1655555] [NEW] Chromium aborts on SIGBUS every minute with vm.overcommit_memory=2

2017-01-10 Thread max ulidtko
Public bug reported:

The Linux kernel has a knob, vm.overcommit_memory, which switches how
memory allocation requests are handled. What I'm reporting is that
Chromium is basically unusable with a non-standard setting of that knob
(which makes sense as a better default to me on my system).

So, steps to reproduce:

1) install chromium-browser
2) sysctl vm.overcommit_memory=2
3) run chromium-browser

Expected behavior: works normally.

Actual behavior: crashes every minute or two. Console output:

[1]7449 bus error (core dumped) chromium-browser

I believe this is either a misconfigured build, or an upstream bug.

[Bug 1614299] Re: install failure on python 3.5

2017-01-10 Thread Manfred Hampl
As already written in https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/python-apt/+question/285522

python-apt version 0.7.8 is a very old and obsolete version (was for Ubuntu
9.04).
For Ubuntu 14.04 the designated version is 0.9.3.5ubuntu2

The message
"from DistUtilsExtra.command import *
 ImportError: No module named 'DistUtilsExtra'"
might indicate that the package python-distutils-extra is missing.

[Bug 1217959] Re: 'metadata' file not found when creating backup ("Could not restore ‘/home/user /.cache/deja-dup/metadata’: File not found in backup"

2017-01-10 Thread Vej
@Xwarman: Please be aware that you disabled one of the major checks to
ensure a successful backup.

@all: I am wondering if this happens before or after the backup taking
place?

A more recent output of the file /tmp/deja-dup.log after running the
appropriate line below and replicating the problem might be helpful as
well. Especially because there seems to be another problem in the backup
of the original reporter. You may want to scrub the log of any
incriminating file names or details:

DEJA_DUP_DEBUG=1 deja-dup --backup | tail -n 1000 > /tmp/deja-

But, I can not successfully reproduce this issue on the machines I have.
Could you help to try if the kernel fix the issue?

The kernel is a little bit older than the latest one,
so please make sure to boot the system with the right kernel.

Thanks pat-mcgowan, I attach the two files. "syslog" I truncated to the

logged, before that I took a quick look and I think there were only the
usual messages related to starting device and such.

I checked and the device does not think it is paired by bluetooth.

[Bug 1655546] [NEW] sqlite backend missing when recompiled with Qt 5.7.1

2017-01-10 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Public bug reported:

For some reason when akonadi was compiled against Qt 5.7.1, the sqlite
backend did not get compiled. This lead to dh_install error and required
the following workaround:

http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/23780287/

The missing backend however should probably be restored.

[Bug 1655534] [NEW] Libvirt lxc kills guest containers on first restart

2017-01-10 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Public bug reported:

On the Tail end of working on https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=848317 I found that we have an issue with libvirt-
lxc guests.

Effectively on the first restart of libvirt we loose all the guests.
I reported upstream and the soon emerging
http://www.spinics.net/linux/fedora/libvir/msg141665.html so much sounded like
the solution, but then if applied does not fix it.

Yet it is so close that the goup setup might be slightly different for
us, but very likely this is the root-cause.

I'm opening this bug to track this, since we need a deeper check to be
done why the upstream solution doesn't work for us.

While being a bad bug in terms of really breaking stuff, prio is only
medium/low as to manage containers lxd is so much better and more
recommended.

[Bug 1655531] [NEW] ttf-mscorefonts-installer fails to download fonts

2017-01-10 Thread Oscar Tiderman

'''

The folder on sourcefourge project should probably be named to something _not_
containting spaces, and/or the downloader script would have to be fixed to
handle the space by changing it to %20 so the fonts can be downloaded.

** Description changed:

On 16.04.1 I "sudo apt-get install gnucash gnucash-docs". The packages
install fine, and I get version 1:2.6.12-1 of gnucash and version 2.6.12-1 of
gnucash-docs. However, when from within the GnuCash gui I select "Help ->
Contents" or press F1 I get an error dialog telling me that the help files
can't be found, and that the likely reason is that the package gnucash-docs
hasn't been installed.

[Bug 1650775] Re: GnuCash could not find the files for the help documentation

2017-01-10 Thread Matt Miller
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected ec2-images

** Description changed:

- On 16.04.1 I "sudo apt-get install gnucash gnucash-docs". The packages
- install fine, and I get version 1:2.6.12-1 of gnucash and version
- 2.6.12-1 of gnucash-docs. However, when from within the GnuCash gui I
- select "Help -> Contents" or press F1 I get an error dialog telling me
- that the help files can't be found, and that the likely reason is that
- the package gnucash-docs hasn't been installed.

[Bug 1652525] Re: DNS leak in ubuntu 16.10

2017-01-10 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Saying "there's a leak" doesn't mean anything. What makes you think it's
the case? What are you looking at to tell it's the case?

Please show the data you're using, preferably with something that looks
like an IP address (even if it's not the exact thing in your
configuration, it should make sense -- we need to see that the value is
the same as what is in logs, etc.)

Additionally, please make sure you include the logs at least from
NetworkManager (/var/log/syslog), preferably the whole syslog as things
like what dnsmasq says are also relevant.

Also, please try to kill -USR1 the dnsmasq process:

sudo pkill -USR1 -c -e dnsmasq

Then include here what gets written by dnsmasq to /var/log/syslog, both
before connecting to the VPN, and after connecting to it. We need to see
what nameservers are used on and off the VPN to be able to tell at all
if some requests are sent to the wrong server.

[Bug 1583164] Re: Panel Indicator uses 25% cpu

2017-01-10 Thread hungrywolf
I was able to solve this by removing/renaming the file ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css
The file appears to contain several customized gradients that are applied to
panel applets, on top of whatever theme is already in use.

1. Rename or remove ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css
2. Kill the process panel-(number)-indica
3. If prompted, click 'Execute' to restart the plugin

After doing this, process panel-14-indica went from 5% cpu to 0%, and
stayed at 0%.

Replacing the gtk.css file, and killing and restarting the indicator
plugin, reversed the process and raised the cpu usage again. For me,
changing which GTK theme I was using had no effect. I am using Xubuntu
16.04.

[Bug 1652348] Re: initrd dhcp fails / ignores valid response

2017-01-10 Thread Jay Vosburgh
I have instrumented ipconfig, and determined that the ultimate source of the
problem
is that, for the case of multiple interfaces, ipconfig has a dependency on the
kernel's probe order of the network interfaces.

For whatever reason, the -31 kernel probes the network devices in one
order (e.g., ens3 then ens4), and the -57 kernel in the other order
(ens4 first then ens3).

The probe order of network devices (and PCI devices in general) is
explicitly not defined, and so this is not a bug in the kernel itself;
ipconfig is failing due to its dependency on a specific enumeration
order.

The issue in ipconfig is that it is using a single packet socket to
attempt to multiplex packet traffic on multiple interfaces. Presuming
that ens3 will answer DHCP and ens4 will not, for the case that works,
the order ends up being something like:

send DHCP request on ens3
send DHCP request on ens4
[ system gets DHCP response via ens3 ]
try to receive DHCP reply sent by peer for ens3; this matches, and all is happy

For the case that it fails, the sequence is roughly:

send DHCP request on ens4
send DHCP request on ens3
[ system gets DHCP response via ens3 ]
try to receive DHCP reply sent by peer for ens4; the reply is actually for
ens3, so ipconfig
throws it away (as the XID, et al, don't match what is expected for the ens4
DHCP request).

This repeats until ipconfig gives up.

As I said above, the issue is that ipconfig is trying to multiplex
traffic for two interfaces on one packet socket. This is fine for
sending, but for receiving on an unbound packet socket, there is no way
to receive a packet sent to a specific interface. Packets are delivered
to recvfrom/recvmsg in the order received.

I note that ipconfig sets sll.sll_ifindex on the msghdr provided to
recvfrom and recvmsg system calls; perhaps the author believed that this
limits received packets to only packets received on that ifindex. This
is not the case, and the sll_ifindex passed to recvfrom/recvmsg is
ignored.

I'm looking into whether or not there is an simple fix for this that
will let ipconfig function without major rework to utilize one packet
socket per interface.

[Bug 1654381] Re: network screen message "not configured but has address" is confusing

2017-01-10 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
I changed the wording a bit, it now says "Has no IPv%s configuration,"
instead of "not configured". Enough to close this? Or should we want
until the installer image uses netplan?

[Bug 1583088] Re: Randomly corrupt font / text / characters in Unity8

2017-01-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Without knowing what project is to blame or where the source code is, I
think this actually looks like a glPixelStorei bug, or lack of
glPixelStorei. If you don't call glPixelStorei before your glTexImage2D
then the default unpack alignment is 4 bytes. And it's possible the font
glyph cache code doesn't know that, assuming default stride alignment is
to 1 byte accuracy instead.
