[Bug 1629881] Re: Vc package significantly out of date

2017-01-25 Thread KFJ
Looking at

http://packages.ubuntu.com/zesty/vc-dev

I assume that even 17.04 seems to be set to use the old version.

2017-01-25 Thread Steve Beattie
>From the dpkg terminal log, the error that's occurring is:

  Processing triggers for initramfs-tools (0.103ubuntu4.7) ...

The casper-memdisk bit should not be necessary; it's likely that issuing
the following commands will resolve the problem you're seeing:

sudo dpkg -P casper-memdisk
sudo apt-get install -f
sudo update-grub

2017-01-25 Thread Steve Beattie
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

2017-01-25 Thread Steve Beattie
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue. The bug has been
fixed in cubemap 1.3.1-3 currently in zesty. To fix this in yakkety,
someone needs to apply
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/298145325/cubemap_1.3.1-2_1.3.1-3.diff.gz
to the version in yakkety and push it through the SRU process

[Bug 1645698] Re: [SRU] Upgrade network-manager to latest point release

2017-01-25 Thread Aron Xu
@cyphermox, most of the common cases are covered before I push changes
to the git repo. I've made some minor updates to
NetworkManager/DistroTesting page and let's continue use it for smoke
testing.

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

This SRU would try to have the latest well-tested upstream point release
(1.2.6) of 1.2.x land in Xenial, which is the successor of the current
1.2.2 version, fixing quite some bugs that's suitable to land in the
  stable branch.

  https://cgit.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/tree/NEWS?h=nm-1-2

  [Test Case]

After installing the updated version, users should be able to avoid some
mem leaks in some cases and have generally improved DNS related
  experiences.

+ Also, as this is a general point release update, cases described in
+ https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NetworkManager/DistroTesting should be used for
+ smoke testing.
+
  [Regression Potential]

This is a bug/regression fix for 1.2.2 and 1.2.4, which is quite
  complete.

  [Other Info]
The first attempt at SRUing this to xenial was for 1.2.4 but it failed
verification. This second attempt matches yakkety with 1.2.6.

Parallel building was enabled in xenial to keep the diff between xenial
and yakkety minimal since they are basically in sync now. Parallel
building was enabled in the yakkety package in May 2016 so it's been
  working fine for a while.

[Bug 1658555] Re: trying to install lobo linuxs

2017-01-25 Thread Steve Beattie
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1659319] Re: Changing language mid-word results in duplicated words

2017-01-25 Thread Alberto Mardegan
This seems to happen, more generally, when you edit any word.
For example:

  - type "prin"
  - select "prince" from the autocompletion
  - type "s"
  - select "princes" from the autocompletion

and you'll get "princeprinces".

[Bug 1658921] Re: NetworkManager does not manage wired connection

2017-01-25 Thread Aron Xu
Can you provide your NetworkManager.conf as well as your
/etc/network/interface file? Normally these two files should look like
this:

1. NetworkManager.conf:
[main]
plugins=ifupdown,keyfile,ofono
dns=dnsmasq

[ifupdown]
managed=false

2. interfaces:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

That is to say, have dnsmasq and ifupdown plugins enabled and set
[ifupdown] to "managed=false", at the same time don't include anything
other than "lo" in /etc/network/interfaces.

[Bug 997200] Re: Test for captive portal before putting applications in online mode

2017-01-25 Thread Aron Xu
Just did some testing with up-to-date 16.04 LTS:

1. Initial state:
Wi-Fi enabled, but not connected to any network; ethernet is unplugged.

$ nmcli general
STATE CONNECTIVITY WIFI-HW WIFI WWAN-HW WWAN
disconnected none enabled enabled enabled enabled

2. Connect to a SSID that has captive portal:
$ nmcli general
STATE CONNECTIVITY WIFI-HW WIFI WWAN-HW WWAN
connected full enabled enabled enabled enabled

This means network-manager has put the state to connected and emits a
signal of full connectivity, which makes other applications "think" the
device is online with full access to the Internet.

mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at

[Bug 1656280] Re: Support installing subordinate systemd on Ubuntu Desktop 14.04.5

2017-01-25 Thread Steve Langasek
The changelog says:

  * debian/patches/deputy_cgroup.patch: Make deputy systemd use
alternative dsystemd cgroups path and nonpid1 systemd should setup
these mountpoints.

Does this refer to mounting of /sys/fs/cgroup/dsystemd or of
/sys/fs/cgroup/systemd? Are changes needed to some other package to
support this?

[Bug 1562344] Re: Not working hotkeys for brightness in HP ProBook 640 G2

2017-01-25 Thread Steve Langasek
This is a simple string change in the rules database and is already
present in 16.04. I am not blocking the release of the SRU for
verification of this change. If there are any further problems upon
testing, please reopen.

[Bug 778627] Re: bash completion now quotes shell variable references rather than expanding them

2017-01-25 Thread Valdemar Jakobsen
I strongly agree with thava (in comment #51).

It's now 2017 and this issue is still unresolved and continues to
require a sub-optimal workaround and no proper fix returning the
original behaviour and allowing the variable name to remain in the
command-line, post tab-completion.

[Bug 1659255] Re: memory leak

2017-01-25 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Try a heap profiler. The problem with high memory usage is that it's
often just indefinitely bloat and not a permanent 'leak'. This means the
program still has enough smarts to free it all on shutdown and no leak
checker will tell you what the problem was. But while it's running it's
still too big. So use a heap profiler...

[Bug 1590799] Re: nfs-kernel-server does not start because of dependency failure

2017-01-25 Thread CDSRV TechSupport
we had some hacks running so the service starts when the system comes
up, and a recent update to the latest 16.04 (4.4.0-57-generic #78) broke
them.

current workarounds, placed in /etc/rc.local :

##
systemctl add-wants multi-user.target rpcbind.service
service nfs-kernel-server restart
systemctl restart rpcbind
##

---

# run the commands manually to enable the services, it may be necessary
to issue 'systemctl daemon-reload' after adding the target.

# reboot to check that the service starts. some of these may not be
needed every startup but are there to recover the config after an
upgrade breaks the workaround.

# check
service nfs-kernel-service status

# for debugging:

# set debug flags
rpcdebug -m rpc -s all
rpcdebug -m nfsd -s all

# tail the logfile
tail -f /var/log/kern.log

# clear debug flags:
rpcdebug -m rpc -c all
rpcdebug -m nfsd -c all

[Bug 1659448] [NEW] grub fails to install bootloader for zesty LVM with Encryption

2017-01-25 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu GNOME 17.04 Alpha 2 candidate. Entire disk. Verified on both i386
and amd64. I am testing in VirtualBox. Only an 8GB virtual disk which
should be just barely enough for Ubuntu GNOME (see also LP: #1614810 )

Install completes successfully if I chose LVM, but if I chose to "Encrypt the
Ubuntu installation for security", I get this error:
"Unable to install GRUB in /dev/sda
 Executing 'grub-install /dev/sda1' failed.
 This is a fatal error."

After clicking ok, I get another popup with three options (Choose a
different device to install the bootloader on, continue without a
bootloader, cancel the instllation). None of the options appear to do
anything.

I'm attaching screenshots.

Thank you for the suggestion!

Having set the system with these values, I can deploy way more 52
instances.. I tested up to 200+ instances.. As expected, the deployment
time is increasing linearly. I think it's related to the asynchronized
io increase in KVM hypervisor.

Note that snapcraft doesn't exclude libraries correctly when that file
is different than xenial's either.

[Bug 1659402] Re: Ubuntu Budgie identifies itself in Grub as "Ubuntu" not "Ubuntu Budgie"

2017-01-25 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Just a guess, but maybe this could be handled in os-prober.

My initial thought is if grub could check whether a specific desktop
meta-package is installed and use that name instead of Ubuntu. I think
"Ubuntu" should still be the name if more than one metapackage is
installed instead of trying to pick a name.

If needed, the metapacakages could add an additional file to make it
easier for os-prober to identify them.

[Bug 1622728] Re: PHP version conflict for PHPBB3 on Xenial

2017-01-25 Thread Nish Aravamudan
Thank you for filing this bug report.

phpbb3 has been deleted from Debian (Bug # 816655) and also from Ubuntu
in Y and on. However, it seems upstream phpbb3 has updated their base to
be compliant with PHP7 (e.g.
https://tracker.phpbb.com/browse/PHPBB3-13657?jql=text%20~%20%22php7%22).
In this case, given the abandonment in Debian, it might be most
appropriate to update the major version of phpbb3 to a level supporting
PHP7. Let me see if uscan/uupdate work on the source package and I will
try to provide a build in a PPA to test.

Thanks,
Nish

[Bug 1659433] Re: trying to reinstall ubuntu in place, saving /home folder

2017-01-25 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We noticed that you were installing the LTS version of
Ubuntu using an older version of the installation media. The latest
point release of 16.04 is 16.04.1. Please try installing from that
version of the installation media and see if that resolves your issue.
Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1659087] Re: open(2) returns EOVERFLOW within tmpfs+userns

2017-01-25 Thread Jonathan Calmels
I can't reproduce the issue on Fedora 4.9.5-200.fc25.x86_64 either.
As you pointed out, setting the fsuid/fsgid to a known userns mapping does work.
