[Bug 1633609] Re: spice-vdagentd does not work
Both versions 16.04 and 16.10 uses version 0.15 of spice-vdagent. I tried installing version 0.17 from Ubuntu 17.04 on 16.10. It failed the same way. I traced the problem to the function session_info_session_for_pid in file systemd-login.c. It seems that the problem is related to systemd. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1633609 Title: spice-vdagentd does not work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/spice-vdagent/+bug/1633609/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1661926] [NEW] libprotobuf10 has libprotobuf-lite.so.12.0.0 and breaks unity-greeter
Public bug reported: I believe I was cleaning out some unnecessary packages and somehow I tripped into a situation where unity / lightdm / xwindows wasn't starting. It kept blinking faintly during bootup when X was supposed to start. It took me a minute to figure out what was malfunctioning. I found errors in the /var/log/lightdm directory of log files. Apparently libprotobuf-lite.so.10 wasn't available. but I had libprotobuf-lite10 installed. As you'll see from the output below, it seems like the later versions of libprotobuf-lite10 and libprotobuf10 have version 12 in them and unity- greeter isn't wired to use version 12. I downgraded to the previous versions of libprotobuf-lite10 and libprotobuf10 and things are working for me again. $ dpkg --list | grep unity-greeter ii unity-greeter 16.10.2.2 amd64Unity Greeter root@cafe: /var/log/lightdm# cat seat0-greeter.log /usr/sbin/unity-greeter: error while loading shared libraries: libprotobuf-lite.so.10: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory /usr/sbin/unity-greeter: error while loading shared libraries: libprotobuf-lite.so.10: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory /usr/sbin/unity-greeter: error while loading shared libraries: libprotobuf-lite.so.10: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory /usr/sbin/unity-greeter: error while loading shared libraries: libprotobuf-lite.so.10: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory /usr/sbin/unity-greeter: error while loading shared libraries: libprotobuf-lite.so.10: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory root@cafe: /var/log/lightdm# ldd /usr/sbin/unity-greeter linux-vdso.so.1 => (0x7fff491b9000) libgdk-3.so.0 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgdk-3.so.0 (0x7f35f9e1f000) libindicator3.so.7 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libindicator3.so.7 (0x7f35f9c0d000) libido3-0.1.so.0 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libido3-0.1.so.0 (0x7f35f99ea000) libgtk-3.so.0 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgtk-3.so.0 (0x7f35f9103000) libpangocairo-1.0.so.0 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpangocairo-1.0.so.0 (0x7f35f8ef6000) libpango-1.0.so.0 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpango-1.0.so.0 (0x7f35f8ca8000) libatk-1.0.so.0 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libatk-1.0.so.0 (0x7f35f8a83000) libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0 (0x7f35f8861000) libgio-2.0.so.0 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgio-2.0.so.0 (0x7f35f84cc000) libgobject-2.0.so.0 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgobject-2.0.so.0 (0x7f35f8279000) libglib-2.0.so.0 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libglib-2.0.so.0 (0x7f35f7f65000) liblightdm-gobject-1.so.0 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/liblightdm-gobject-1.so.0 (0x7f35f7d49000) libcairo.so.2 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcairo.so.2 (0x7f35f7a36000) libcanberra.so.0 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcanberra.so.0 (0x7f35f7824000) libX11.so.6 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libX11.so.6 (0x7f35f74eb000) libXext.so.6 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libXext.so.6 (0x7f35f72d9000) libm.so.6 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libm.so.6 (0x7f35f6fd) libpthread.so.0 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0 (0x7f35f6db) libc.so.6 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (0x7f35f69e9000) libcairo-gobject.so.2 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcairo-gobject.so.2 (0x7f35f67e) libfontconfig.so.1 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libfontconfig.so.1 (0x7f35f659d000) libXinerama.so.1 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libXinerama.so.1 (0x7f35f639a000) libXi.so.6 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libXi.so.6 (0x7f35f618a000) libXrandr.so.2 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libXrandr.so.2 (0x7f35f5f7d000) libXcursor.so.1 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libXcursor.so.1 (0x7f35f5d73000) libXcomposite.so.1 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libXcomposite.so.1 (0x7f35f5b7) libXdamage.so.1 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libXdamage.so.1 (0x7f35f596d000) libXfixes.so.3 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libXfixes.so.3 (0x7f35f5767000) libxkbcommon.so.0 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libxkbcommon.so.0 (0x7f35f5528000) libwayland-cursor.so.0 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libwayland-cursor.so.0 (0x7f35f531e000) libwayland-egl.so.1 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libwayland-egl.so.1 (0x7f35f511c000) libwayland-client.so.0 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libwayland-client.so.0 (0x7f35f4f0d000) libmirclient.so.9 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libmirclient.so.9 (0x7f35f4c7d000) libepoxy.so.0 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libepoxy.so.0 (0x7f35f4988000) librt.so.1 =>

[Bug 1607535] Re: ttf-mscorefonts-installer 3.4+nmu1ubuntu2 fails to install core fonts
** Description changed: [Symptoms] When installing or updating the package ttf-mscorefonts-installer in Ubuntu 16.04 or 16.10, an error message appears in a GUI window, indicating "failure to download extra data files" (the fonts themselves) "after package installation" (the package itself appears to have been installed). This error message re-appears regularly, as a cron-job re- tries the failed download. If installing or updating from the command line, additional failure information is given in an error message prefixed by "E:", but this error message depends on the mirror server which is contacted for the download: "404 Not Found" is common, but there is also "Protocol http not supported or disabled in libcurl", and complains about invalid Content-Range headers. [Cause] The current 3.4 version of ttf-mscorefonts-installer in Ubuntu 16.04 delegates the download of the proprietary Microsoft Core Fonts for the Web (Andale, Arial...) to the package update-notifier, which itself delegates it to the program apt-helper provided by the package apt. The download URL points to the host downloads.sourceforge.net, which redirects to a randomly-chosen mirror server .dl.sourceforge.net. Unfortunately, the program apt-helper has a bug in the way it treats redirections. This bug makes apt-helper keep a space in the URL instead of encoding it to %20 before contacting the mirror. It is more extensively documented in bug 1655431 and bug 1651923. The mirror replies to this malformed request with an error message (e.g. "404 Not Found"), and download fails. Some mirrors appear to understand the malformed request nonetheless, and send the requested font file, however since there are 11 fonts to download, the chances of getting 11 understanding mirrors are low. Hence why the error message usually concerns andale32.exe or arial32.exe instead of webdin32.exe. [Workaround 1] Download the fonts manually and put them all in the same directory. You can use wget for that, because contrary to apt-helper, it handles redirections fine (command line formatted for readability, do not include line breaks and line indents): - $ wget http://downloads.sourceforge.net/corefonts/ - {andale32.exe,arial32.exe,arialb32.exe,comic32.exe,courie32.exe, - georgi32.exe,impact32.exe,times32.exe,trebuc32.exe,verdan32.exe, - webdin32.exe} + $ wget http://downloads.sourceforge.net/corefonts/ + {andale32.exe,arial32.exe,arialb32.exe,comic32.exe,courie32.exe, + georgi32.exe,impact32.exe,times32.exe,trebuc32.exe,verdan32.exe, + webdin32.exe} Or you can use your browser: point it to https://sourceforge.net/projects/corefonts/files/the%20fonts/final and download the same files. Make sure the package is purged and no remaining setup triggers are remaining, using your favorite package manager or command-line APT: - $ sudo apt-get purge ttf-mscorefonts-installer + $ sudo apt-get purge ttf-mscorefonts-installer Then reinstall the package, this time pointing to the previously- downloaded fonts in a second step: - $ sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer - # (this will most likely fail again) - $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure ttf-mscorefonts-installer + $ sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer + # (this will most likely fail again) + $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure ttf-mscorefonts-installer The second command should return a "graphical" interface in the terminal. Use it to point to the directory where you downloaded the fonts (/path/to/directory/containing/the/fonts). Make sure no .deb files are in this directory, they seem to be picked up too and then it fails. If a pop-up shows up for a post-install action later, just let it run, it shouldn't come back. It may triggered by the file /var/lib/update- notifier/user.d/data-downloads-failed and you may be successful in avoiding the regularly-reappearing message by removing this file. But this point is less clear. Once everything is working, you can delete the downloaded fonts in .exe format, they have been uncompressed and installed in /usr/share/fonts/truetype/msttcorefonts in .ttf format. Adapted from: Vincent Gerris (comment 17), Lesley Binks (comment 18). [Workaround 2] Remove Ubuntu's version of ttf-mscorefonts-installer and install Debian's version instead. Indeed, Debian's version uses wget to download the fonts, and contrary to apt-helper, wget handles redirections fine. Download the package from https://packages.debian.org/ttf-mscorefonts- installer. Version 3.6 has been tested by several users. This workaround should work with Debian's version 3.4+nmu1 too, but then you'd be prompted to update to Ubuntu's problematic version 3.4+nmu1ubuntu2 next time you update your packages. To download the package with wget (command line formatted for readability, do

[Bug 1607535] Re: ttf-mscorefonts-installer 3.4+nmu1ubuntu2 fails to install core fonts
This bug has been fixed in apt-transport-https 1.2.19 (xenial) and 1.3.4 (yakkety), released 2017-01-26, by Julian Klode in bug 1651923. If you are still affected by it, update apt-transport-https to the appropriate version and reinstall Ubuntu's version of ttf-mscorefonts- installer. You should remove Debian's version of ttf-mscorefonts- installer beforehand, if you installed it (unless you want to keep using Debian's version of course). If you run into Content-Range errors when reinstalling ttf-mscorefonts- installer, remove the downloaded fonts in /var/lib/update-notifier /package-data-downloads/partial/ and try again. This is a different bug, also fixed recently, but not backported to Xenial and Yakkety yet (bug 1657567). ** Changed in: msttcorefonts (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1607535 Title: ttf-mscorefonts-installer 3.4+nmu1ubuntu2 fails to install core fonts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/msttcorefonts/+bug/1607535/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1607535] Re: ttf-mscorefonts-installer 3.4+nmu1ubuntu2 fails to install core fonts
Robin: Sorry I couldn't reply sooner. For 16.04, this bug has been fixed in apt-transport-https 1.2.19, released Jan 26, 2017, so you shouldn't run into it again with the Ubuntu ttf-mscorefonts-installer 3.4 package, provided you update apt- transport-https to 1.2.19. For 14.04, I cannot reproduce what you describe. On my own 14.04 machine, I am able to install Ubuntu's ttf-mscorefonts-installer 3.4 without any error. Your issue may have a different cause. If you can still reproduce it, please open a new bug report with as much information as you can give, and subscribe me to it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1607535 Title: ttf-mscorefonts-installer 3.4+nmu1ubuntu2 fails to install core fonts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/msttcorefonts/+bug/1607535/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 1568459] Re: unison incompatible with older ubuntu/debian versions
Many Debian and Ubuntu versions e.g. Ubuntu Trusty don't have that version available. Raspbian Wheezy neither. But those are just examples. Unison is intended to allow for sync-ing of directories over multiple platforms, Windows included. As a minimum 2.40 needs to be everywhere, but 2.32 would also be useful. p...@beardsell.com On 5 February 2017 at 01:24, Mark Fosterwrote: > How about just add the 2.48 version in {xenial,yakkety,zesty}-backports? > > -- > You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to a > duplicate bug report (1642079). > https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1568459 > > Title: > unison incompatible with older ubuntu/debian versions > > To manage notifications about this bug go to: > https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unison/+bug/ > 1568459/+subscriptions > -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1568459 Title: unison incompatible with older ubuntu/debian versions To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unison/+bug/1568459/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1661869] Re: maas install fails inside of a 16.04 lxd container due to avahi problems
Oh right, I see now.. too early to comment as usual :( The problem is that you are setting up a "privileged" container for MAAS which does not use UID mapping, hence the issue shows up in the MAAS workflow but not with a normal container deployment. The rlimit-nproc is simply set in /etc/avahi/avahi-daemon.conf, so can easily be tweaked in the package. I believe the idea behind it originally is basically to ensure that avahi cannot be used to execute something else, despite all the chrooting, etc - even if there was a way. Essentially blocking further forking. For that reason, probably makes most sense to simply remove the limit rather than increase it by any given number. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1661869 Title: maas install fails inside of a 16.04 lxd container due to avahi problems To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/maas/+bug/1661869/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1437764] Re: ttf-mscorefonts-installer doesn't work from Ubuntu Software Center because of EULA, breaks APT
@Alain: not the same bug, you clearly have accepted the EULA already (it's written in the output). See bug 1649203/comments/13 for your Content-Range issue. Also make sure that apt-transport-https is 1.2.19 to avoid bug 1607535. Then you can remove Debian's version of ttf- mscorefonts-installer with "sudo dpkg -P /path/to/ttf-mscorefonts- installer_3.6_all.deb", and reinstall the Ubuntu one (that said the Debian version works fine too). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1437764 Title: ttf-mscorefonts-installer doesn't work from Ubuntu Software Center because of EULA, breaks APT To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/msttcorefonts/+bug/1437764/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It looks like a previous install of ttf-mscorefonts-installer failed. But reinstalling it may fail because of bug 1607535, since your version of apt is apparently < 1.2.19. Try removing it completely, updating apt packages to 1.2.19, and reinstalling it: sudo apt-get purge ttf-mscorefonts-installer sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer If you don't want to upgrade your whole system, use "install apt- transport-https" instead of "dist-upgrade" to upgrade only specific packages. To wit: echo "deb http://download.videolan.org/pub/debian/stable/ /" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/libdvdcss.list echo "deb-src http://download.videolan.org/pub/debian/stable/ /" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/libdvdcss.list sudo chmod a+r /etc/apt/sources.list.d/libdvdcss.list wget -O - http://download.videolan.org/pub/debian/videolan-apt.asc|sudo apt-key add - sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2 Apparently xine and the current libdvdread doesn't like the current libdvdcss2; one needs to use the old one. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1654087 Title: xine crashes when trying to play a DVD To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xine-ui/+bug/1654087/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1661899] [NEW] [20ENCTO1WW, Realtek ALC298, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all
Public bug reported: This is a fresh install of Ubuntu 16-04 on a Thinkpad P50. Sound works when booting into Windows, but not in Ubuntu. No sound from internal speakers or headphones. [Bug 1597792] Re: plasmashell high CPU usage (100%+)
I will add that on my machine (Ubuntu 16.04.1) increases in CPU usage get triggered also by changes in the network connectivity. For example, if the WiFi connection drops and Skype tries to connect, Plasma goes immediately to 100%. Killing Skype reduces the CPU usage to 15-30%, but it stays around that for a while. Same thing when using Dolphin to copy large files from the internal SSD hardisk to USB thumbdrives. (I'm sure it's a fixable, and it will indeed be fixed in time for the announcement of KDE 6, which will bring all kinds of new and exciting bugs together with some nasty and unavoidable new features) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1597792 Title: plasmashell high CPU usage (100%+) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plasma-workspace/+bug/1597792/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1490349] Re: 15:10 and 16.04: bluetoothd reports "Not enough handles to register service" at start
@aromo Similar issue, couldn't connect UE Boom speaker was just getting 'Unable to register GATT service with handle 0x0001'. Found it strange that even when the speaker was powered down bluetoothd kept trying to connect (and disconnect seconds later) What I found was, UE Boom speakers can be powered on remotely using the mobile application - which is done through Bluetooth LE. This is why the speaker was connected even when powered-down because of it was connected via LE. I could be wrong but I believe the GATT service manages the messages from LE devices - So I tried disabling Bluetooth Low Energy on the laptop bluetooth adaptor through this command: sudo btmgmt le off Unpaired the speaker, restarted the laptop and afterwards I had no more "Unable to Register GATT" or "Device is already marked connected messages" and I was able to connect the speaker through Audio Sink. Haven't had any issues with it since (except for having to run a2dp.py - but that is a separate issue) Perhaps you could try disabling le and see if it works for you too? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1490349 Title: 15:10 and 16.04: bluetoothd reports "Not enough handles to register service" at start To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/+bug/1490349/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1661869] Re: maas install fails inside of a 16.04 lxd container due to avahi problems
Avahi is setting some rather strict rlimits which affect everything which uses that kernel uid, crossing container boundaries and so breaking containers. Unfortunately MAAS requires a privileged container right now, so you can't resort to uid mapping to avoid this problem. At the LXD level, all we can do to avoid this problem is to allow you to have one distinct id map per container, which we already support. But that's only going to work for unprivileged containers. One fix could be to tweak our avahi to relax or if not that useful, entirely remove those rlimits as it's a rather frequent pain point and I'm not sure of the benefit of those rlimits in the first place. Another fix would be to not have MAAS depend on avahi and let you install and run it without avahi, which is effectively what Brian's instructions do (as they disable avahi-daemon in the container). Marking the LXD task Invalid, as we're already doing all we can in this regard by supporting non-overlapping id maps for unprivileged containers. ** Changed in: lxd (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1661869 Title: maas install fails inside of a 16.04 lxd container due to avahi problems To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/maas/+bug/1661869/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1591515] Re: Network manager can't disconnect from wifi or connect to another wifi
i just installed xubuntu-16.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso and have seen the same (or slight variation of the same) behavior a few times over the last several days. machine is a thinkpad x220. lshw identifies the networking h/w as: - ethernet: 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection - wireless: Centrino Advanced-N 6205 [Taylor Peak] first failure case: - connect to wireless network, become active network participant. - attach ethernet cable, become active network participant. - disconnect ethernet cable. - both wired and wireless networks were now in disconnected state, wireless did not reconnect automatically, and there was no list of networks from which to select a connection. another failure case: - use laptop on wireless - put to sleep - wake laptop - same symptoms: both wired and wireless networks were now in disconnected state, wireless did not reconnect automatically, and there was no list of networks from which to select a connection. this has happened several times, but note that it doesn't happen _every_ time. when it does occur, there are two workarounds which will cause the laptop to resume normal operation: - sudo service NetworkManager restart or - sudo iwlist scan -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1591515 Title: Network manager can't disconnect from wifi or connect to another wifi To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1591515/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
