[Bug 1711544] Re: ALT+Tab in Unity on Artful shows two selectors

2017-08-18 Thread Khurshid Alam
For me it started to happen after Unity:Unity7 session was renamed To
Unity:Unity7:Ubuntu. So many services which checks with XDG_DESKTOP are
failing. And unnecessary services are starting.

gnome-session (3.24.1-0ubuntu19) artful; urgency=medium

  * debian/patches/50_ubuntu_sessions.patch:
- prepend "ubuntu" to DesktopNames. This will enable us to have per
session default experiences and session override.
- append "ubuntu" for unity session. Indeed, Unity overrides will be
higher in the hierarchy (like button positions) than ubuntu override
  defaults.

[Bug 1711780] [NEW] IP stops returning to arp-scan when sshed into

2017-08-18 Thread Scott Cohen
Public bug reported:

When I do a scan of my local network via the command arp-scan
--localnet, I find that the IP of the machine which has Ubuntu-MATE on
it shows up in the list of IPs brought back by arp-scan. But when I ssh
to that machine and then issue the command arp-scan --localnet from the
machine that I had sshed from, I find that the IP address of the
computer with Ubuntu-MATE on it is absent from the list. I expect the IP
address with the machine with Ubuntu-MATE to show up. I tested this with
other machines and operating systems and those still returned an IP
address when issued arp-scan --localnet. The Ubuntu-MATE machine was the
only one which didn't.

I posted a bug report here and here:

[Bug 1627808] Re: Please enable e10s (multi-core CPU processing) support

2017-08-18 Thread est31
Thanks for resolving!

The fix won't last though, as Firefox 57 onward will only load web
extensions. I've filed bug #1711778 as followup to track porting of this
add on.

[Bug 1711777] [NEW] screen sync only in popup window google pinyin chinese input librewriter ubuntu 16.04 amd integrated graphics

2017-08-18 Thread Elaine Wong
Public bug reported:

HW
Memory 5.8 GiB, Shared graphics 2GiB
AMD A4-5000 APU with Radeon HD Graphics x4
Gallium 0.4 on AMD KABINI (DRM2.49.0 /4.10.0-32-generic, LLVM 4.0.0)
64-bit
SSD

Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Libreoffice 5.4

Often, though not always horizontal tearing looking like sync problem
occurs only within the popup window of Chinese input using google-pinyin
within Librewriter. the blinking and flashing will stop as soon a word
is selected.

It happens under any of the following scenarios
- graphics came with original install
- mesa graphics for AMD
- AMD CPU microcode, or not

PPA used
in addition to usual
ubuntu-x-swat
libreoffice-5-4
chrome/deb
nilarimogard/webup8

[Bug 1610765] Re: Apparmor refuses mysqld open on /etc/mysql/my.cnf.migrated causing it to fail to start

2017-08-18 Thread cripperz
@andreas
Just a description how this happened again. Usually it would happen after the
server lost power and reboot this error would come back. Or the VM abruptly off
without a proper shutdown then i will hit into this issue.

root@ns3:/etc/mysql#apparmor_parser -r -T -W -v /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld
Replacement succeeded for "/usr/sbin/mysqld".
root@ns3:/etc/mysql#

For testing sake, i added below in the /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld

  /sys/devices/system/node/* r,
  /sys/devices/system/node/ r,
  /sys/devices/system/node/node0/meminfo r,

  /proc/** rk,
  /proc/* rk,

then i get

audit(1503106354.767:603): apparmor="STATUS" operation="profile_replace"

[Bug 1576341] Re: systemd in degraded state on startup in LXD containers

2017-08-18 Thread Mathew Hodson
This bug was fixed in the systemd with 234-2ubuntu6 - Ignore failures to
set Nice priority on services in containers.

---
systemd (234-2ubuntu2) artful; urgency=medium

  * Ignore failures to set Nice priority on services in containers.
  * Disable execute test on armhf.
  * units: set ConditionVirtualization=!private-users on journald audit socket.
It fails to start in unprivileged containers.
  * boot-smoke: refactor ADT test.
Wait for system to settle down and get to either running or degraded state,
then collect all metrics, and exit with an error if any of the tests failed.

open-iscsi (2.0.874-4ubuntu1) artful; urgency=medium

  * Merge with Debian unstable. Remaining changes:
- debian/tests: Add Ubuntu autopkgtests.
- debian/iscsi-network-interface.rules, debian/net-interface-handler,
  debian/open-iscsi.install:
Prevent network interface that contains iscsi root from bouncing
during boot or going down during shutdown.
Integrates with resolvconf and initramfs code that writes
  /run/initramfs/open-iscsi.interface
- debian/open-iscsi.maintscript: clean up the obsolete
iscsi-network-interface upstart job, file on upgrade.
- Let iscsid systemd job run in privileged containers but not in

[Bug 1711760] [NEW] [2.3] resolv.conf is not set (during commissioning)

2017-08-18 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Public bug reported:

Using MAAS 2.3, during commissioning (and likely in the rest of the
ephemeral environment) we have noticed that resolv.conf is not set with
the DNS server.

That said, during the commissioning process, MAAS does not send any
metadata to cloud-init to configure the network, rather, we expect the
image to boot from the network via DHCP. So, cloud-init writes:

ubuntu@manual:~$ cat /etc/network/interfaces.d/50-cloud-init.cfg
# This file is generated from information provided by
# the datasource. Changes to it will not persist across an instance.
# To disable cloud-init's network configuration capabilities, write a file
# /etc/cloud/cloud.cfg.d/99-disable-network-config.cfg with the following:
# network: {config: disabled}

dns-nameservers 192.168.122.2

Which correctly includes the DNS server. However:

ubuntu@manual:~$ ping google.com

[Bug 1642966] Re: package cups-daemon 2.1.3-4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 1

2017-08-18 Thread Eric Desrochers
Here's a debdiff[1] that I have tested and mitigate the situation with
the reproducer using VirtualBox.

The proposal patch integrate a custom "debian/cups-daemon.prerm"
maintainer script in case the pre-removal "old-version" from the
installed package fails (as seen using the above reproducer) and then
switch to the pre-removal script from the "new version" from the package
to-be install in order to stop cups.socket and cups.path indivually
before #DEBHELPER#.

[Bug 1245666] Re: Pidgin is creating zombies

2017-08-18 Thread amk
16.04.3 LTS Pidgin 2.10.12 (libpurple 2.10.12) also impacted.

The notes above consider this situation normal, but it is not. There is
no reason for the app to skip collecting the spawned processes after
failed DNS or connection attempt.

https://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/15617 is still in new status.

[Bug 1711483] Re: Crackling sound after resuming from suspend

2017-08-18 Thread indigocat
I checked in Firefox 55, which routes all audio via PulseAudio, and
sound is perfect.

There may be a problem between chromium-browser and pulseaudio.

** Description changed:

PulseAudio exhibits abnormal behavior after resuming from suspend:
- Crackling sound present during HTML5 video playback in browsers (Chromium,
Firefox, Chrome).
+ Crackling sound present during HTML5 video playback in Chromium 60.

  I tried adding tsched=0 to load-module module-udev-detect in
  /etc/pulse/default.pa, and it didn't work.

I slightly increased fragment number and size in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf,
  didn't work either.

Before suspending, multiple sound sources can be handled without problems nor
audible noise.
After suspending machine, sound source is noisy/crackling, as if there were
buffer underruns.

[Bug 1711754] [NEW] Crackling sound from HTML5 video while routing sound through PulseAudio

2017-08-18 Thread indigocat
Public bug reported:

All HTML5 videos watched in Chromium, using PulseAudio as session-wide audio
daemon, begin to crackle, as if there were audio buffer underruns.
I began experiencing this problem while watching videos on YouTube, edX,
Coursera, Udemy.

Going through all PulseAudio troubleshooting steps (e.g. adding tsched=0
to load-module module-udev-detect in /etc/pulse/default.pa, etc.) did
not work.

Watching the same videos in Firefox 55.0.2 (which routes all audio
through PulseAudio) gives perfect sound, no crackling/underruns.

Hardware: IBM ThinkPad T410s with Intel + NVidia graphics (Optimus - using
discrete NVidia only)
OS: elementary OS 0.4.1 Loki (based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS)
Package: chromium-browser:

[Bug 1700827] Re: [MIR] pcp package

2017-08-18 Thread Ken McDonell
Apropos the CVE's all of these have been completely addressed in past PCP
releases.
CVE-2012-5530 - fixed in PCP 3.6.10 (released 19 Nov 2012)
CVE-2012-3421, CVE-2012-3420, CVE-2012-3419 and CVE-2012-3418 - all fixed in
PCP 3.6.5 (released 16 Aug 2012)
CVE-2001-0823 - fixed in PCP 2.2.1 (released 21 Jun 2001)

I am in agreement with Frank, that we'd really like to see some specific
issues identified that are barriers to inclusion of PCP in main.

If we had this list we're more than happy to work through them ... based
on 20+ years of experience with PCP development and deployment in many
big and ugly environments, I am confident that most of them will turn
out to be false positives, others can be fixed.

Thanks for the effort so far with the review.

[Bug 1711752] [NEW] Some right click items are untranslated

2017-08-18 Thread AsciiWolf
Public bug reported:

When clicking the icons of Terminal, Nautilus etc., some things are
being shown as the untranslated (English) strings even though they are
translated upstream (GNOME). For example the "New Terminal" for GNOME
Terminal, that is correctly translated (in Czech localization) as "Nový
terminál" in GNOME panel, but untranslated when clicking the GNOME
Terminal icon in the ubuntu-dock extension. Another example is the "New
Window" item in Nautilus. See the attached screenshots.

What would you have in mind. Is there another way we could resolve this
upstream, or should we turn to the user to make a patch to the source.list
before use, e.g. modifying the downstream debootstrap additionally for docker
to make the fix per trusty?

[Bug 1711735] Re: source.list for armhf includes trusty-security which does not exist for arm

2017-08-18 Thread Dan Watkins
The fix in bug 1679252 uses LB_PARENT_MIRROR_BINARY_SECURITY for
security lines (where currently trusty uses LB_PARENT_MIRROR_BINARY; I
don't _think_ this should work because LB_PARENT_MIRROR_BINARY is used
for the other sources.list lines which are fine, but it's worth a try.

Commit with that change pushed up to https://code.launchpad.net/~daniel-
thewatkins/ubuntu/+source/livecd-rootfs/+git/livecd-
rootfs/+ref/bug/1711735, and I've kicked off a build of livecd-rootfs to
attempt a build from.

[Bug 1711735] Re: source.list for armhf includes trusty-security which does not exist for arm

2017-08-18 Thread Dan Watkins
This was fixed for xenial in bug 1513529 and bug 1679252.
(Specifically, the former refactored sources.list generation
significantly and in a way which broke non-x86 architectures, and the
latter remedied that.)

Unfortunately, the changes to sources.list generation were fairly major,
so I don't think it would be appropriate to pull them all the way back
to trusty; we should find a less invasive fix.

[Bug 1711748] [NEW] Sync chef 12.14.60-3 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2017-08-18 Thread Unit 193
Public bug reported:

Please sync chef 12.14.60-3 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

Stefano Rivera pushed his changes in Ubuntu to Debian, and of course I
fixed the net-ssh incompatibility. There is no Delta.

Changelog entries since current artful version 12.14.60-2ubuntu5:

chef (12.14.60-3) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Team upload.

  [ Stefano Rivera ]
  * Build-Depend on ruby-fuzzyurl, rather than relying on it's indirect
presence via ohai -> ruby-chef-config.
  * Blacklist mount_spec and ifconfig_spec, as they require real root.
  * Be more verbose on failure, and tighten the pgrep to avoid catching
"systemd-cgroups-agent chef-client.service" after stopping.
(Patch from Ubuntu, Closes: #798618)
  * Unset http[s]_proxy in the subversion spec, so it doesn't alter generated
subversion commands.

  [ Unit 193 ]
  * Bump Standards-Version to 4.0.1.
  * d/p/0004-Use-newer-net-ssh.patch:
- Relax dependency on ruby-net-ssh (Closes: #869179)

NVMe disks are being detected as multipath disks, as pointed in the BZ 157373.
https://bugzilla.linux.ibm.com/show_bug.cgi?id=157373

There are two upstream commits in multipath-tools that solve this issue:

[Bug 1667750] Re: xhci_hcd: ERROR Transfer event TRB DMA ptr not part of current TD ep_index 2 comp_code 13

2017-08-18 Thread Iron Davey
I've tried this with the proposed xenial 4.11.0-13 kernel and it seems
to be working for me. I'm running a Precision 7510 with bios 1.13.6 . I
initially had a problem where the network card wasn't showing up, but
re-read earlier posts about disabling the thunderbolt dock security
feature in the BIOS. The only test I've done is to download the 16.04.3
iso image, and saw a peak of 11MB/s and a low of ~6MB/s.

As an aside, the TB16 I'm testing just showed up today, so I'm assuming
it has the latest firmware ;)

[Bug 1709126] Re: kernel BUG at [tty_ldisc_reinit] mm/slub.c!

2017-08-18 Thread Kamal Mostafa
Waiving the verification-needed-xenial, since this was originally
reported against linux-lts-xenial (no known xenial test installation
exists). Will ask the original reporter to re-verify the fix in linux-
lts-xenial.
