[Bug 1712658] Re: Rhythmbox is only partially translated in Ubuntu 17.10

2017-08-26 Thread Devin Grant
I believe Rhythmbox itself is fully translated, but the plugin that's
installed on all default installations as of Ubuntu 17.10, Alternate
Toolbar, probably hasn't been fully translated yet; it's a fairly new
plugin, so that might be why the translation isn't completed.

Might I suggest disabling that plugin to find out if the application is,
in fact, fully translated in your native language?

[Bug 485345] A list of more than 500 article ideas

2017-08-26 Thread mi_ride
Before I start any new website, I create a list of 3 niche topics I can
choose from. All of those niche topics are topics I am passionate about or
really want to learn more about.
With those 3 niche ideas, I perform what is called keyword research so that
I can create a list of a MINIMUM of 100 article ideas in a spreadsheet.
Take a look http://mmd.md/divorce_n.php?m=ENDg1MzQ1QGJ1Z3MubGF1bmNocGFkLm5ldA--

[Bug 1713290] [NEW] bluetooth not working asus laptop 1604 fresh install

2017-08-26 Thread Fernando Roa
Public bug reported:

I cannot make work the bluetooth in a laptop Asus K46CB=S46CB=S46CM with ubuntu
16.
I have read several forums like
https://askubuntu.com/questions/787023/bluetooth-not-working-on-ubuntu-16-04-lts
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2082152,
https://www.vivaolinux.com.br/topico/Notebooks/Problemas-com-o-Bluetooth-no-Asus-S46CB.
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=213841

I have tried several of the suggestions, but nothing worked. On a newer Asus,
suggestion worked. Including installing blueman,
setting AutoEnable=true in /etc/bluetooth/main.conf, and
sudo apt-get install aptitude
sudo aptitude install firmware-atheros

performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 735496] Make money using affiliate programs

2017-08-26 Thread Robert Cotterman
When I started my first blog online, I really had no intention of making any
money from it. I started writing my first blog simply because I thought it was
fun.
However, I started to learn about how much money can actually be made
online, which is when I started to get serious about learning how to make
that happen. The biggest windfall in my business is learning how to make money
 using affiliate programs.

[Bug 1705157] Re: On fresh install or fresh boot greeter always show "ubuntu" though selected session may be ubuntu-wayland

2017-08-26 Thread Doug McMahon
A bit different than before.

1. On fresh install 1st. login, says "ubuntu" but session is xorg
2. If switching once back & forth then "ubuntu' correctly produces wayland
3. Whatever session is logged into then a log out/in shows & produces that
session, i.e. completely correct.
4. A reboot again always shows "ubuntu" but session will be whatever it was at
shutdown/restart

[Bug 1302416] Re: deja-dup monitor was taking 6GB of memory

2017-08-26 Thread Jure Sah
When I had the issue I did not have Google Chrome installed. I was
instead, creating disk images with ddrescue. Needless to say that
involved some active changes in files substantially larger than the
amount of system memory.

Unfortunately as the issue occurred spontaneously and completely
disabled my computer when it happened, I had resorted to uninstalling
deja-dup rather than attempting to resolve the issue.

Will try fix next week.

I feel like the strings introduced by this patch are wrongly

[Bug 1302416] Re: deja-dup monitor was taking 6GB of memory

2017-08-26 Thread Michael Terry
Sigh, I've never been able to reproduce this. Despite several people
saying it's connected to Chrome Remote Desktop, we also have several
reports of it happening without that involved.

I'm currently testing a workaround (committed to trunk) that sets a
memory limit on the monitor process, as a quick and dirty hack to
alleviate the effects of this bug. If anyone wants to test on their
machine, you can edit /etc/xdg/autostart/deja-dup-monitor.desktop to
change its Exec line to:

Exec=bash -c "ulimit -v 100;
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/deja-dup/deja-dup-monitor"
X-GNOME-AutoRestart=true

(change the x86_64-linux-gnu part as needed)

I'd welcome reports of success or failure with this.

2017-08-26 Thread Tim Richardson
HI Doug, it could be hardware dependent although my two Optimus laptops are
very mainstream (both Quadro). It's more likely to be configuration (I hope)
How do you achieve modeset=1? How do you confirm that you have Prime Sync
working? I use xrandr --verbose | grep PRIME

regards

Tim

[Bug 1713276] [NEW] CVE-2017-9417 “Broadpwn”

2017-08-26 Thread Adam Smith
Public bug reported:

Broadcom BCM43xx Wi-Fi chips allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary
code via unspecified vectors, aka the "Broadpwn" issue.

Cypress (was Broadcom) have given the Raspberry Pi foundation new
releases of the WiFi and Bluetooth firmware to fix the problem. See
https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/issues/1342#issuecomment-321221748

The pre-release files found at the above link are now included in the
latest release of raspbian stretch.

Would it be possible to include these new files in the linux-firmware
package? Please note at the moment the package is missing the file
brcmfmac43430-sdio.txt. Without this file the wifi does not work on the
raspberry pi 3.

[Bug 1713274] [NEW] zenmap uses menu package in /usr/share/applications/zenmap-root.desktop file, but does not depend on it

2017-08-26 Thread Norbert
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Install zenmap.
2. Try to find its desktop file to launch as root:
  $ dpkg -L zenmap | grep desktop
  /usr/share/applications/zenmap-root.desktop

  $ cat /usr/share/applications/zenmap-root.desktop | grep Exec | grep zenmap
  Exec=su-to-root -X -c zenmap %F
3. Try to launch it with `su-to-root -X -c zenmap %F`
4. Get
  $ su-to-root -X -c zenmap %F
The program 'su-to-root' is currently not installed. You can install it by
typing:
  sudo apt install menu

Expected results:
'zenmap' package depends on 'menu' package so it could be launched as root.

Actual results:
'zenmap' package does not depend on 'menu' package and could not be launched as
root.

[Bug 1713173] Re: CPU fan speed not controlled by thermald

2017-08-26 Thread Devang
The PWM control has a range of 0-255 or 1-255 with 0 being off for the
fan.

** Description changed:

- The asus I have has only one fan for the CPU and GPU, and a shared
- heatsink. When I am fully utilizing the GPU and CPU, the fan runs at
- 4000 rpm max. I see the following messages in dmesg:

[Bug 1713173] Re: CPU fan speed not controlled by thermald

2017-08-26 Thread Devang
Some more information, with changed report: The asus I have has only one
fan for the CPU and GPU, and a shared heatsink. When I am fully
utilizing the GPU and CPU, the fan runs at 4000 rpm max. I see the
following messages in dmesg:

"powercap intel-rapl:0: package locked by BIOS, monitoring only"

and

"CPU4: Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled
CPU4: Package temperature/speed normal
mce: [Hardware Error]: Machine check events logged
CPU6: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled
CPU6: Core temperature/speed normal"

I see the latter messages around every 5 minutes when the fan is running
at 4000rpm. They happen on every CPU*.

When I control the fan manually using: echo 255 > /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon2/pwm1
It gets louder than when it is running at 4000rpm, and I don't see MCEs anymore
in dmesg. This is all under a folding@home load of full usage.

Why doesn't thermald use the PWM control for the fan?

** Description changed:

- I have an ASUS with i7-4710HQ running 16.04, and thermald doesn't seem
- to increase fan speed as much as it can (it reads 2600-4000 under load).
- Manually changing the fan speed using the PWM control changes the speed
- and it becomes louder than what it is at 4000.
+ The asus I have has only one fan for the CPU and GPU, and a shared
+ heatsink. When I am fully utilizing the GPU and CPU, the fan runs at
+ 4000 rpm max. I see the following messages in dmesg:

- I have been seeing a lot of MCEs in dmesg: CPU5: Package temperature
- above threshold, cpu clock throttled. I can provide more information if
- needed.
+ "powercap intel-rapl:0: package locked by BIOS, monitoring only"
+
+ and

[Bug 1713173] Re: CPU fan speed not controlled by thermald

2017-08-26 Thread Devang
** Description changed:

I have an ASUS with i7-4710HQ running 16.04, and thermald doesn't seem
- to increase fan speed at all (it constantly reads 1400 even under load).
+ to increase fan speed as much as it can (it reads 2600-4000 under load).
Manually changing the fan speed using the PWM control changes the speed
- and it becomes louder.
+ and it becomes louder than what it is at 4000.

I have been seeing a lot of MCEs in dmesg: CPU5: Package temperature
above threshold, cpu clock throttled. I can provide more information if
  needed.

[Bug 1713175] Re: Obsolete backup ext2/3/4 superblocks can confuse e2fsck on an encrypted LUKS partition

2017-08-26 Thread Devang
You are correct, not running atleast wipefs before using luksFormat on
the block device was a mistake on my part, but I barely remember making
it. I half expected fsck to come up with some errors, so I let it make
changes. It is not a volume that is always connected at startup, hence
the manual check. It was just the wrong block device. An isLuks check
would have returned yes and prevented fsck from running. Maybe libblkid
could detect luks partitions?

This happened on a 2 drive raid 1 array, which I have dd backups of, if
some how the array can be recovered. Hard lesson learned though. Thank
you for the explanation.

[Bug 1713266] [NEW] Display scaling doesn't actually update display scale-factor

2017-08-26 Thread Karl
Public bug reported:

In the "Displays" GUI, there's a slider called "Scale for menu and title bars"
that seems to update the scale-factor parameter
(/com/ubuntu/user-interface/scale-factor). When I click and drag the slider
around, it updates the screen's scale factor (most of the time). However, when
I click the slider, then change the value with the left and right arrow keys,
the scale-factor parameter is unchanged. Clicking "Apply" doesn't help.
I expected the slider to behave the same whether it was moved by mouse drags or
keyboard movements.

Steps to replicate:
1. Open a terminal and run `dconf watch /com/ubuntu/user-interface/scale-factor`
2. Open the Displays GUI
3. Click the "Scale for menu and title bars" slider and move it around with the
arrow keys. Note that the scale-factor in the terminal did not update.
4. Click "Apply". Note that the window is not rescaled.

I've also had trouble with mouse drags not updating scale-factor, but
I'm having trouble replicating that issue.

As a side comment, it seems that the name "Scale for menu and title bars" is a
little misleading. It controls the whole screen scaling, not just menu and
title bars, yes?

2017-08-26 Thread Olivier Doriath
I have the same exact issue!

I don't know if this will help, but as long as the HDMI audio isn't
working, my TV will display the Dolby symbol, followed by a capital D
when pressing the OK button (It is an LG 47LH7020). Once I get it to
work by restarting the TV, or switching input modes, the symbol is gone
and the audio works until a restart.

[Bug 468288] The price of a binary option

2017-08-26 Thread buurd
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 460039 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/460039

Hello friend,
In binary options trading you are betting that the price of a specific
asset will either increase or decrease during a set period. You have the
luxury of knowing your risk and return up front, before the trade ever
takes place.
Binary trading is an excellent way to get into the market without a large
outlay of capital or capital reserve required.

[Bug 1713259] [NEW] FFe: sip 4.19 transition

2017-08-26 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
Public bug reported:

I would like to update sip4, python-qt4 and pyqt5 to their latest
upstream versions: 4.19.3, 4.12.1 and 5.9, respectively.

The main motivation for this is pyqt5: I want to ship a pure upstream
version with proper support for Qt 5.9, instead of 5.7 with hand-crafted
patches that we have now. Also, with sip 4.19 the sip ABI should become
more stable, which should make future maintenance easier.

Upstream announcement for sip 4.19:
https://www.riverbankcomputing.com/news/sip-419.

* sip4, python-qt4 and pyqt5 need to be synced from Debian experimental;
* all packages that build-depend on python-sip-dev, python3-sip-dev,
python-qt4-dev or pyqt5-dev need to be rebuilt;
* ball and qtiplot need to be patched to fix FTBFS with sip 4.19;
* pyqwt3d and tulip need to be patched to fix FTBFS unrelated to sip.

I have all the patches ready, and I will prepare the rebuilds in a silo
PPA prior to landing, if I get the exception.

This transition was not done before feature freeze because I was waiting
for the Qt 5.9 transition to finish first (to avoid collisions).

[Bug 1713248] Re: pubkey auth hangs on high latency networks

2017-08-26 Thread Jim Salter
After logging in, my actual tests move several gigabytes of http traffic
- downloads of incompressible data in files ranging from 16KB to 16MB -
complete without incident.

I've been resorting to establishing an ssh control channel while the
test laptops are in short range, then taking them to the longer range
and running the actual tests, using the already established control
channel to avoid the need for re authentication.

Literally *everything* but SSH pub key auth functions at long range.
This behavior is consistent across at least five models of wireless
interface, and thirty plus models of wireless router or access point.

[Bug 1311316] Re: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock

2017-08-26 Thread Sylwester
This has been bugging me for some time. Out family of 3 switch users and
it happens randomly for some users while others still work.

The only workaround I got is that I made a dummy user that I always
login on terminal 7. When any in the family gets this problem they hit
CTRL+ALT+F7 to that user lockscreen and use its fast user switch to pick
their own name. Then you get login prompt and can access your session.
Once in the session you get the same problem if you lock the screen so
its just to be able to save your work, close appications and kill the
screem with AltGr+SysRq+k since the logout will show a logout button
that will not work.

Once logged in again though the lock screen is normal for a random
duration of unlocks before the same happens again.

It beats loosing data but a fix would be nice.

2017-08-26 Thread Doug McMahon
Well, not exactly fixed...
>From an upgrade perspective it is fixed.
In general extended use it's fixed.

But from a fresh install -
The 1st. login will show "ubuntu" as selected session but in actuality it will
be a ubuntu-xorg session.
Again simply switching the login options fixes & unlike before issue won't
reappear.

Maybe this comes from installing from a live session which is ubuntu-xorg?
(- haven't tried a direct install from usb install media..

[Bug 1713254] [NEW] MATE icon theme is missing color folders

2017-08-26 Thread Brice Terzaghi
Public bug reported:

This is more a wishlist than a bug report. Problem happens on 17.04 and
17.10 (not sure about previous version, as the MATE theme has changed a
bit at some point).

Ubuntu MATE includes support for Folder Color
(http://foldercolor.tuxfamily.org/) out of the box. Yet, the MATE icon
theme (Ambiant-MATE / Radiant-MATE) doesn't include color folders and
reverts to the generic ones installed by FC. While they look similar,
they have small differences.

I've put a comparison of MATE using the FC icons vs recolored versions
I've done here: http://imgur.com/a/Zd143

I can upload them somewhere if you want to include them (not sure if
it's right to add an archive of icons as attachment to the bug report?).

Re: [Bug 1713238] Re: gufw will not open in ubuntu wayland 17.10

2017-08-26 Thread costales
I didn't like politykit in the past, so so so complicate to debug. I
migrated Gufw looking into the Gparted code.

I don't understand the issue, gnome shell - wayland. Gnome shell is the UI
and Wayland is the graphic engine (?). Gnome shell is running over wayland,
then Gufw or GParted should not work (?).

Anyway it is a so big change in the code and I don't time for it now :(

[Bug 1713249] [NEW] gnome-software don't install e.g gnome-tweak tool

2017-08-26 Thread Per-Inge
Public bug reported:

When installing gnome-tweak-tool and also chromium, gnome-tweak-tool
provides the error message "Enable Third-party Software Source? GNOME
Tweaks is provided by "ubuntu-artful-universe". This software source
must be enabled to continue installation. Cancel Enable to continue
installation"

However this source is already enabled and Packages will install gnome-
tweak-tool.

There is also problems with the search function. When you start gnome-
software and search for e.g tweak no results are presented. However if
you click on the desktop outside of gnome-software results are
presented.

Re: [Bug 1713248] [NEW] pubkey auth hangs on high latency networks

2017-08-26 Thread Colin Watson
I'm not sure your ping test proves that the network isn't dropping
packets. ping sends rather small packets by default, and you could have
a situation where only larger packets are dropped. Have you tried
asking ping to use larger packet sizes to try to narrow this down?

I'd also suggest using something like tshark on both ends to see exactly
what packets are being sent and received.
