[Bug 1758009] Re: Unity not starting: compiz-config crashes on login

2018-03-23 Thread Robert Prije
I think I'm getting the same error

I have 2 accounts on this computer.

This morning my wife logged in to hers and immediately received the
error "Ubuntu 16.04 has experienced an internal error". It referenced
the executable path /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/unity/compiz-config-
profile-setter. Since then her login receives no errors but continues to
show only the desktop image with no panel or windows.

I am still able to login and function just fine under my own login.

Attached the associated crash file.

[Bug 1758251] Re: Ubuntu 16.04.4LTS installation doesn't finish, sends report

2018-03-23 Thread Gary Ford
Further note and another try at installation:
=
I used the "Universal USB Installer-1.9.8.0" to create the USB stick that I
then used to install Ubuntu.
>From this USB stick, I booted to "Try Ubuntu"

Once booted I opened a terminal:
sudo rm /usr/lib/ubiquity/apt-setup/generators/40cdrom

Then I click the "Install 16.04LTS" icon.
I selected Download updates while installing
and I selected Install third-party software.

I've tried installation quite a few times, and trying different things.
The new thing that I hadn't tried was the removing of the 40cdrom file.
I tried numerous times and ways, but that was new this time, and of
course I'm not sure if this was the trick, but I thought I would mention
it.

After awhile, it completed installation and I was able to reboot, and then
login. So as far as getting the basic installation, I'm okay.

[Bug 1757299] Re: [Dell OptiPlex 755] xorg hangs

2018-03-23 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

- The problem is that my GUI stops responding after launching a few
- applications, and is correlated to high CPU utilization of xorg.
+ The problem is that after launching a few applications, the GUI may
+ become unresponsive, although this is not consistently reproducible.
+ When the GUI is unresponsive, it is correlated to high CPU utilization
+ of xorg.

- An example reproduction scenario:
- launched startx,
- launched an xterm via twm,
- launched another xterm via the first,
- launched tmux,
- launched firefox-esr, bluetooth-manager, and pavucontrol,
- maximized the xterm running tmux
+ An example reproduction scenario is launch the following in order, and
quickly:
+ startx
+ xterm via twm
+ another xterm via the first xterm
+ tmux
+ firefox-esr
+ bluetooth-manager
+ pavucontrol

- xorg stopped responding, ctl-alt-Fn don't respond either
+ While the above are launching, maximize the xterm running tmux, and the
+ GUI immediately becomes unresponsive. For example, Ctrl+Alt+Fn don't
+ respond.

- logged in via ssh, attached to tmux, launched htop, copied htop output,
- in which you can see xorg consuming lots of cpu.
+ After this, I logged in via ssh, attached to tmux, launched htop, copied
+ htop output, which shows xorg at 94.6 CPU%.

[Bug 1710993] Re: PulseAudio requirement breaks Firefox on ALSA-only systems after 55.0.1 update

2018-03-23 Thread Vasiliy via ubuntu-bugs
Mans, are you crazy?
Firefox don't compile, so we decide add Pulseaudio for ALL USERS OF LUBUNTU.
It's not your choice. It's our systems, and we don't like Pulseaudio. Because
this we use Lubuntu. Lightweight distro for servers and old workstations (from
Pentium 3 700 Mhz, yes).
Your decision is wrong. You must recompile firefox with Alsa support, because
you maintainers, and Mozilla team says that maintainers must support alsa, if
they want. You want. Because Lubuntu is Pulseaudio-free distro.
I not asking you, not begging. Because you not asked thousands and millions
users of Lubuntu about this piece of Pulse. Just do it.

[Bug 1757299] Re: [Dell OptiPlex 755] xorg hangs

2018-03-23 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
gregrwm:

>"i am not asking for help."

If you are not expecting this bug to be fixed (i.e. not asking for a
developer to help), then feel free to mark this report Status Invalid.
Otherwise, please refrain from "smart alec" remarks, as it doesn't
motivate developers to want to fix bugs you report.

Despite this, allow me to clarify a previously asked question:
After reproducing the problem, if you SSH in and only kill processes that are
not xorg, which processes do you have to kill until your GUI begins to be
responsive again?

2018-03-23 Thread Andrew Enderson
Public bug reported:

I've installed keepassxc as a snap and as a deb package. In both cases,

[Bug 1757299] Re: [Dell OptiPlex 755] xorg hangs

2018-03-23 Thread gregrwm
i am not asking for help. this is a bug report. i am reporting a bug.
if there is useful information i can gather i am happy to do so.

4) the steps in the description of this bug were performed in fairly
rapid succession, so several apps were busy starting up. The lockup
occurred instantly after maximizing the xterm. 6) killing Xorg freed
the terminal. 3) it is not consistently reproducible. Under xenial it
happens watching videos (Bug #1744429). Since installing bionic, videos
haven't tripped it so far. This bug report describes an occurrence that
didn't involve a video.

5) here is what htop looks like right after logging in, launching
startx, 2 xterms, and htop:

when Xorg hangs but does not crash, as in this bug description, will a
manual kill of Xorg, perhaps with a certain signal, produce the crash
report you describe?

[Bug 1758466] Re: bionic: default io_timeout for nvme is 255 on AWS

2018-03-23 Thread Phil Sweeney
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected ec2-images

** Description changed:

According to AWS docs, using newer instance types that use NVME drivers
(c5/m5), the io timeout should be set to maximum (ideally 4294967295).
  https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/nvme-ebs-volumes.html

It appears this is done for 16.04, but in 18.04 it is the default.

Test done by spinning up an m5.large instance in ap-southeast-2.

Ubuntu 16.04 AMI on AWS (latest AMI - 20180126):

  $ cat /sys/module/nvme/parameters/io_timeout
  4294967295

  $ uname -r
  4.4.0-1049-aws

Ubuntu 18.04 AMI on AWS (latest nightly AMI - 20180323):

  $ cat /sys/module/nvme_core/parameters/io_timeout
  255

  $ uname -r
  4.15.0-1001-aws

Perhaps as part of the move to nvme_core this got lost.

[Bug 1724639] Re: Bug in Kernel 4.13 : Intel Mobile Graphics 945 shows 80 % black screen

2018-03-23 Thread Nicolas Krzywinski
Same problem on Gigabyte GA-T1028X
Intel® Atom™ Processor N280(1.66GHz)
Mobile Intel® GS945 Express Chipsets
Intel® GMA 950

Adding this to /etc/default/grub helped me too:
GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=text

Additionally adding this to the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT line enabled the
touchpad (which wasn't working before):
i8042.noloop=1 usbhid.quirks=0xeef:0x1:0x40

[Bug 1758467] [NEW] Update yelp* to 3.28.0

2018-03-23 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

The Ubuntu Docs team requested that the new versions of yelp* stuff not
be updated to the 3.28 versions for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. The new versions
have changes that will require rewriting of the rules used to generate
the html documentation for https://help.ubuntu.com/stable/ubuntu-help/

The desktop app yelp should have no compatibility problems.

Even if it takes some time to update those html rules, Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
can be used for a while to update the web site. It just would be
annoying to be stuck on 16.04 LTS for a while instead!

Therefore, I'm filing this tracking bug and setting the block-proposed
tag in case someone accidentally syncs the packages even though we're in
Freeze status for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.

[Bug 1758466] [NEW] bionic: default io_timeout for nvme is 255 on AWS

2018-03-23 Thread Phil Sweeney
Public bug reported:

According to AWS docs, using newer instance types that use NVME drivers
(c5/m5), the io timeout should be set to maximum (ideally 4294967295).
https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/nvme-ebs-volumes.html

It appears this is done for 16.04, but in 18.04 it is the default.

Test done by spinning up an m5.large instance in ap-southeast-2.

Ubuntu 16.04 AMI on AWS (latest AMI - 20180126):

$ cat /sys/module/nvme/parameters/io_timeout
4294967295

$ uname -r
4.4.0-1049-aws

Ubuntu 18.04 AMI on AWS (latest nightly AMI - 20180323):

$ cat /sys/module/nvme_core/parameters/io_timeout
255

$ uname -r
4.15.0-1001-aws

Perhaps as part of the move to nvme_core this got lost.

-- Bug description --

Reported in the Ubuntu bug tracker:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/scilab/+bug/225070

--
Using stacksize() function to increase virtual memory in Ubuntu 7.10's scilab
4.1.1 results in excessive memory allocation. In some cases memory is
continually allocated until system slows to a crawl, swapping.

Ubuntu 7.10
Scilab package: 4.1.1-1

In comparison, scilab 4.1.2 downloaded as a binary from scilab.org works
fine. A previously downloaded 4.1.1 version of Scilab from scilab.org
also worked fine (used on an older version of Ubuntu, 6.10 LTS I
believe) so it is not fundamentally a scilab problem.

Here are some allocation examples between the two (total virtual process
size reported). Stacksize() function takes a numeric argument which is
the number of 8-byte doubles to increase stack allocation by, so
stacksize(4000) should allocate 320 MB to the stack. In these
examples, no code is being run or data loaded; just the command line
shell is started and the stacksize() command is executed. 4.1.2 produces
the expected virtual size; 4.1.1 is roughly double under no activity.
With significant code running, my observation is that Ubuntu's 4.1.1
scilab continues to allocate memory well beyond the stacksize() numbers
shown below, just doesn't seem to stop allocating (but that's a guess).
As a result, Ubutnu's scilab 4.1.1 is unusable.

stacksize() 4.1.1 (Ubuntu pkg) 4.1.2 (scilab.org binary release)
=
1000 180 MB 96.5 MB
2000 337 MB 174 MB
4000 649 MB 331 MB
1 1.43 GB 800 MB

Recommend: fix (presumed) configuration issue with Ubuntu's scilab 4.1.1
package.

[Bug 1758449] Re: skype snap does not work when home directory is not located in /home

2018-03-23 Thread Christian Boltz
Just as a quick info - to get things working with non-default home
directory locations, edit /etc/apparmor.d/tunables/home (or add a file
to /etc/apparmor.d/tunables/home.d/) and add your custom path
("/data/home/") to the @{HOMEDIRS} variable.

I'm not sure why read access to /data/ was requested (do you have
something besides the home directory in /data/ that could be needed by
snap or skype?) and if it is really needed, therefore I'd recommend to
re-check if this denial still happens after adjusting @{HOMEDIRS}.

[Bug 1758199] Re: Sync androguard 3.1.0rc2-1 (universe) from Debian testing (main)

2018-03-23 Thread Robie Basak
> We've been testing with the 3.1.0~rc2 version in Debian/testing, but
if you want the final 3.1.0 release in bionic, I can do that update.

I think it's really about whether you want it in Bionic. If you do,
you'll need to sell your case to the release team and ask specifically
for a feature freeze exception here.

[Bug 1715519] Re: bnx2x_attn_int_deasserted3:4323 MC assert!

2018-03-23 Thread r.stricklin
I was able to install the ppc64el 4.4.0-117 kernel from xenial-proposed.
It boots and passes at least enough traffic to make an interactive ssh
session function.

I'm having some DKMS issues, however, which are preventing me from
validating the patch prevents crash as expected (one of the modules we
need has BUILD_EXCLUSIVE for 4.8 and 4.10 only). I am working with the
IBM development team who publishes these modules to get that resolved
ASAP (they were surprised by this, so we are waiting for answers from
individual engineers, probably Monday).

[Bug 1758427] Re: Juniper VPN connection fails after authentication

2018-03-23 Thread Mike Miller
It looks to me like you have NetworkManager 1.10.4, so what release are
you actually on? Some OS info and lists of relevant packages and
versions would be helpful.

Anyway, the relevant error looks like

/usr/sbin/openconnect: /usr/local/lib/libopenconnect.so.5: version
`OPENCONNECT_5_4' not found (required by /usr/sbin/openconnect)
/usr/sbin/openconnect: /usr/local/lib/libopenconnect.so.5: version
`OPENCONNECT_5_3' not found (required by /usr/sbin/openconnect)

Looks like you have an openconnect installed from Ubuntu repositories as
well as an openconnect you compiled and installed yourself in
/usr/local. And it looks like the one in /usr/local is older, can you
try again after deleting the copy in /usr/local?

[Bug 1758459] [NEW] Getting 2.93 in Bionic

[Bug 1758442] Re: [HP WMI] Issues with brightness keys [HP ProBook 640 G1]

2018-03-23 Thread Ian Turner
I think this bug may actually be INVALID.

It turns out the root cause is setting this in /etc/default/grub, which I had
done in order to change the Grub keyboard layout:
GRUB_TERMINAL_INPUT=at_keyboard

After removing this line (and updating grub), the brightness keys work
correctly and none of the other keys trigger brightness changes.

[Bug 614309] Re: Advanced grub install options show partition table BEFORE format/repartition instead of AFTER

2018-03-23 Thread Mahmoud H. Al-Qudsi
@jamman647: 8 years late to the party, but the installer bases its
*post*-install configuration based on the selection you make on that
screen. There's no way to tell it what partition to boot from if it
doesn't show you what your partitions will look like at the time your
system, well, boots. Who cares what your partition layout looks like if
you're going to wipe it all away in a minute?
