[Bug 1766786] [NEW] chef is calling update-rc.d with the deprecated "-n" flag

2018-04-24 Thread Coops
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to 18.06 LTS, chef (specifically chef-solo) breaks when
trying to enable services.

The "-n" flag was removed from "update-rc.d" upstream here:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=856415

However chef (12.14.60-3ubuntu1) still uses it, which breaks configs.
Example chef error:

```
* service[xinetd] action enable
* /usr/sbin/update-rc.d -n -f xinetd failed - #
```

[Bug 1484157] Re: AltGr key acts like "Select All"

2018-04-24 Thread Marcin Kielar
I have same issue since a year or so. This is really annoying, as right
ALT on my keyboard is used to enter national characters - so it is used
heavily. In *some* places you loose what you just typed making it
impossible to work.

I noticed it is really hard to tell where issue will appear; right now I
have multiple tabs in Firefox 59.0.2 (64-bit) open. This "add comment"
text area works fine. I have another webpage open in same firefox, where
this occurs.

I also confirm this behaviour in libre office writer's search textbox (4.2.8.2
Build ID: 420m0 Build:2).

[Bug 1766785] [NEW] libplist FTBFS on armhf with bus errors

2018-04-24 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

[SRU Justification]
libplist currently fails to build on armhf with bus errors due to unaligned
access, making this not currently security supportable as of 18.04 release.
Since this library is seeded on all desktop images I am not looking to have
this included during the freeze but am making it an SRU instead.

[Test case]
If the package builds from source on all architectures, it has passed its test
suite showing that the new code works on all architectures and produces correct
results.

[Regression potential]
It is possible there may be performance regressions on some other little-endian
architectures besides armhf as a result of this change to the byte swap
implementation. I do not think this would be the case. I don't know if this
code path is performance-sensitive.

After reboot I have a server booted in UEFI mode.

** Tags added: apport-collected xenial

** Description changed:

  This is on a Hewlett-Packard ProLiant DL380 G7, with a Smart Array P410i
RAID controller containing a RAID 1+0 array of four SATA hard drives.

  It's running Ubuntu 16.04 with the linux-image-generic-hwe-16.04-edge
  packages installed.

The root partition consists of a simple ext4 filesystem on /dev/sda1,
which is on the RAID array

There is a more complex secondary mount involving mdraid and bcache
intended to be mounted at /srv - but we're seeing problems before that
  comes into play.

Booting into the last 4.13 kernel (4.13.0-39-generic) works fine.

- Booting into the latest 4.15 kernel (4.15.0-15-generic) results in the

[Bug 1766770] Re: 4.15.0-15-generic can't find root device

2018-04-24 Thread James Troup
William Grant points out:

 commit 8b834bff1b73dce46f4e9f5e84af6f73fed8b0ef
 Date: Tue Mar 13 17:42:39 2018 +0800
scsi: hpsa: fix selection of reply queue

Since commit 84676c1f21e8 ("genirq/affinity: assign vectors to all
possible CPUs") we could end up with an MSI-X vector that did not have
any online CPUs mapped. This would lead to I/O hangs since there was no
 CPU to receive the completion.

Our 4.15 does not have that commit, but does have the referenced one.

[Bug 1766775] [NEW] Notifications do not disappear

2018-04-24 Thread hackel
Public bug reported:

I frequently have notifications that do not disappear after being shown.
This is particularly prevalent with power management notifications.
Most of the time when I wake my computer from suspend, I see the
following notification at the top: "Automatic suspend - Computer will
suspend very soon because of inactivity." that never goes away.
Presumably, this was shown before my computer went to sleep, and should
have disappeared but didn't. I have to either click on the
notification, or click on the time to open the notification menu to get
it to disappear. Occasionally, the same behaviour occurs with other,
random notifications.

This is a long-standing issue for me, that I'm just now getting around
to reporting. I'm on 17.10, gnome-shell 3.26.2-0ubuntu0.1, and running
the gnome-session (not Ubuntu). I don't know if the issue is present on
Gnome 3.28, but plan to find out once 18.04 final is released.

** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1766778] [NEW] Australian mirror hash sum mismatch on handbrake_1.1.0+ds1-1ubuntu1_amd64.deb

2018-04-24 Thread Paul
Public bug reported:

http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/h/handbrake/handbrake_1.1.0+ds1-1ubuntu1_amd64.deb
differs from the file served by other mirrors (e.g. the Japanese one),
and breaks apt updates. The file has the correct size and timestamp, but
the first 1 MiB of the file is completely wrong (the rest is fine).
Seems like random corruption that somehow sneaked in during mirroring.

[Bug 1766770] Re: 4.15.0-15-generic can't find root device

2018-04-24 Thread James Troup
This appears to be a regression in the HPSA driver. In the 4.13 kernel,
the following hpsa output is seen:

  https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/Bq9ktJWtBm/

And the HW RAID volume ends up as /dev/sda. In 4.15, the HW RAID is not
found and one of the SSD volumes ends up as /dev/sda/

[Bug 1766757] Re: package shim-signed 1.34.9+13-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: installed shim-signed package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2018-04-24 Thread Steve Langasek
Your log shows this is an upgrade of shim-signed, from version
1.33.1+13-0ubuntu2 to 1.34.9+13-0ubuntu2, so you have previously had
this package successfully installed; but the error in your logs is:

Installing for x86_64-efi platform.
grub-install: error: cannot find EFI directory.
ESC[1mdpkg:ESC[0m error processing package shim-signed (--configure):
installed shim-signed package post-installation script subprocess returned
error exit status 1

This shows that you have no EFI System Partition mounted at /boot/efi.
Why is this?

The BootEFIContents attachment also shows that you have a fully
populated /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu directory; but if this is not actually an
EFI System Partition, it will not be visible to the firmware.

You do have a /dev/sda1 partition mounted at /boot. What filesystem is
on this partition?

[Bug 1766770] [NEW] 4.15.0-15-generic can't find root device

2018-04-24 Thread Barry Price
Public bug reported:

Booting into the latest 4.15 kernel (4.15.0-15-generic) results in the
root device not being found, and a stacktrace before an initramfs
prompt: https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/JnTXQ5YP9W/

[Bug 1747329] Re: Workaround needed to boot from USB stick - "gfxboot.c32: not a COM32R image"

2018-04-24 Thread sudodus
@Ken T (professorsnapper),

Which version of *ubuntu are you running, when you create your USB boot
drives? Is it a version before 16.04 LTS? In that case I think there is
an old and buggy version of the Startup Disk Creator, that you should
avoid :-)

A new robust *cloning* version of the Startup Disk Creator was bundled
with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

-o-

I'm glad that you have a version of Disks, that can do the job :-)

[Bug 1766728] Re: update linux-base on xenial

2018-04-24 Thread Thadeu Lima de Souza Cascardo
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

After some changes on linux package on bionic, linux-azure-edge and
linux-hwe-edge, which are based on that package, now require a linux-
base that provides linux-update-symlinks and linux-check-removal. Using
the latest version also means translations will be present.

  [Test Case]

Installing the latest linux-azure-edge will fail the config stage
because maintainer scripts call into non-existing linux-update-symlinks
  and linux-check-removal.

  Test result: TODO.

  [Regression Potential]

- Possibly breaks (or improves) bash-completion for perf. New functions on
- perl module are tested during build time. It could break symlinks
- creation for other kernels. TODO: testing that verifies those don't
- break.
+ New functions on perl module are tested during build time. It could
+ break symlinks creation for other kernels. perf bash completion is not
+ distributed, so does not conflict with linux-tools-common. TODO: testing
+ that verifies those don't break.

[Bug 1766765] [NEW] xflock4 fails if light-locker installed in /usr/local/bin

2018-04-24 Thread Paulo Marcel Coelho Aragão
Public bug reported:

I'm running Xubuntu 17.10. After I installed libglib2.0-dev
2.54.1-1ubuntu1, light-locker 1.7.0-2ubuntu1 stopped working correctly,
because it couldn't ready its schema (/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/apps
.light-locker.gschema.xml) anymore, so it couldn't get its settings from
the gsettings backend, logging an error message in ~/.xsession-errors:

Schema "apps.light-locker" not found. Not storing runtime settings

The consequence of this was: whenever the screen was blanked, it was
locked, even though I had configured on Xfce Power Manager:

Security => Light Locker => Automatically lock the session: Never

light-locker was always locking the session automatically because it
couldn't read the settings through its gsettings backend.

So, I uninstalled light-locker 1.7.0-2ubuntu1, cloned its upstream git
repository:

https://github.com/the-cavalry/light-locker

built and installed it, under /usr/local, its default. This solved my
first problem: light-locker was now able to read its configurations
through gsettings, but xflock4 stopped working. Looking at this bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-session/+bug/1537507

I realized that xflock4 was just a shell script, and I discovered that,
right at the beginning, it sets its PATH to:

PATH=/bin:/usr/bin
export PATH

So, as light-locker is installed as /usr/local/bin/light-locker, xflock4
obviously cannot find it through PATH.

Of course, I could just install light-locker under /usr, but it's
standard practice to install locally built software under /usr/local, to
avoid conflicts with software installed from the distribution, which is
installed under /usr.

Therefore, xflock4 needs to be fixed so as to include /usr/local/bin in
the PATH variable:

PATH=/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin

This will also affects Xubuntu 17.10 and 18.04, because xfce4-session
remained at version 4.12.1-3ubuntu3.

[Bug 1766751] Re: Switching between Caja windows shows x-caja-desktop which doesn't do anything

2018-04-24 Thread Gabriel
It only appears when using the shortcut labeled "Move between windows of
an application, using a popup menu", and selecting it doesn't focus the
desktop, it doesn't change the focused window.

+ This is in xubuntu 18.04 final build 20180424. The same happened in
20180421.1. It also happened as far back as 0412.
The standard configurations can be loaded. Pressing the Save Configuration
button brings a popup to name the configuration. Call it "". But
what is actually saved is whatever configuration is currently highlighted in
the menu.
If Current Configuration is highlighted, the initial/default "Current
Configuration" (I believe it's Xubuntu Bionic) is copied. The name of the
saved configuration is " (Copy of Current Configuration)".
If (say) Gnome 2 is selected, then the default Gnome 2 is copied, and the
name of the saved configuration is listed as " (Copy of Gnome 2)".
- UPDATE: The problem seems to be fixed in version 1.0.7-0ubuntu2.

[Bug 1766746] Re: Cannot save customized configurations - can only copy defaults

2018-04-24 Thread Alistair Buxton
After discussing this on IRC it seems it could be a quirk of how the UI
works: if you want to save the current config, you need to make sure
that "current config" is selected in the list. Otherwise it will make a
direct copy of whatever you do have selected.

[Bug 1765897] Re: vertical graphic lines glitch (on secondary top monitor)

2018-04-24 Thread Chris Guiver
when I login with "xubuntu"; i'm getting glitch (about same width of
pixels; left of (my upper) monitor 2 in the same spot as under GNOME,
but it's static. The colors are varied, a mixture of black, grey-green-
white, brown, white, as if some of a prior wallpaper was left on the
monitor when my selected wallpaper was drawn.

Changing wallpaper does nothing, the edge of the wallpaper is always
just to the right of the 'glitch' and never covers it.

OF NOTE:

 ---
 |--
 |-- (top monitor 2nd)
---(bottom first monitor, to left of upper one)
   ---
   ---

Of note however, if I open a window (terminator, settings or any window) and
drag it to the left of the screen - it pauses at the edge of the 'wallpaper'
and doesn't cover the glitch! If I push further on the window (after
resistance) it then covers the glitch before the left side of my window
disappears off screen. This is possibly significant.

[Bug 1766751] Re: Switching between Caja windows shows x-caja-desktop which doesn't do anything

2018-04-24 Thread Victor Kareh
This selects the desktop itself (which is an instance of caja). The idea
seems to be that you can switch between the applications and the
desktop. Selecting the desktop allows you to then use the keyboard to
move between desktop icons.

Not sure if this is a bug or whether this is the intended behavior, but
I have seen people requesting the Desktop to have an entry in the window
switcher. There was a recent change in Marco (about a month ago or so)
where a lot of the window/app switcher keybindings were fixed (most
weren't working correctly), so I wonder if this "feature" has been there
all along, and that fixed finally exposed it.

Regardless, the fact that the entry is labeled as `x-caja-desktop` _is_
a bug.
