[Bug 1801470] [NEW] Doble password to login after screen blocked

2018-11-02 Thread Daniel Jenkins
Public bug reported:

After every the screen is blocked, I have to write twice the password.
The first time the top bar is available but the user as seen on the
blocked screen still on. Then, I have to "cancel" the process which drop
down the "curtain" and then I have to enter the password yet again.

That happens since the update from 18.04 to 18.10.

[Bug 1801469] [NEW] LibreOffice Writer still does not print two-sided to HP printer

2018-11-02 Thread Robert Pearson
Public bug reported:

I have seen entries on Ask Ubuntu about this issue. I have previously
reported the problem 6 months ago. LibreOffice still prints only single-
sided despite the duplex-printing being set.

It is not the HP OfficeJet 7740 printer. Is not the HP Linux driver. It
is Writer.

As a work around, I am saving the document as a pdf file, opening it in
my browser (Chrome) and printing it 2-sided. Works perfectly.

This is a long term bug in LibroOffice Writer. It affects everyone who
has an HP printer. It needs to be fixed - (it can be fixed since
Chromium and Chrome can do it).

[Bug 1801439] Re: Unable to add PPA's via the software-properties

2018-11-02 Thread Chris Guiver
I followed TEST instructions in description

I got exactly the same output

Have you tried restarting LXQt panel that should probably do the trick as a
better workaround.

[Bug 1801438] Re: "Install Lubuntu 18.10" icon on desktop results in "Execute File" window appearing

2018-11-02 Thread Walter Lapchynski
I cannot reproduce this.

Here's the sha256sum of the image I'm using:
99408e73e5ff11727be6987d9b2f8ee3b6a3b672c9da540a63c8b462a0cf63c4
lubuntu-18.10-desktop-amd64.iso
which is indeed the published one:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/releases/cosmic/release/SHA256SUMS

Looking at the manifest:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/releases/cosmic/release/lubuntu-18.10-desktop-amd64.manifest
one finds, among other things:
libfm-qt5:amd64 0.13.1-5ubuntu7
casper 1.399

The last few changes in libfm included changes that allow for trusting
executables, thus eliminating the dialogs you're seeing if a special
flag is set for a particular executable. Furthermore in casper, you'll
see that a change was made to set that for the Lubuntu installer.

Perhaps your image doesn't match the hash correctly? A small bit of
difference can have dramatic effects.

[Bug 1801437] Re: Both "Install Lubuntu 18.10" and "Install System" appear in the System menu of the Live session.

2018-11-02 Thread Walter Lapchynski
Calamares comes with a desktop file, which isn't easily overridden
without potentially affecting everyone installing Calamares. We provide
our own Lubuntu specific desktop file, which is not part of the
calamares package, to allow for Lubuntu-specific branding. So it is what
it is. But there's only one icon on the Desktop. There's no real
expectation that a user would be searching through the menus to do their
install.

[Bug 1801447] Re: Boot-time login screen image lingers too long after password accepted

2018-11-02 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
Here is the second of the two screen images.

Note that more time has passed and more notifications have displayed in
the panel.

Seeing this, and that at first nothing seems to happen at all, a first-
time user might be getting worried that maybe something is wrong.

I have a dual-core 3.1 Mhz. system, so this would be even more worrisome
for someone with a slower system...

[Bug 1801447] [NEW] Boot-time login screen image lingers too long after password accepted

2018-11-02 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
Public bug reported:

First, when logging in from the boot screen, there is no indication that the
password entered was accepted.
The image remains on the screen what seems a long time.

So long, that eventually, the boot screen image ends up sharing the
screen with the panel as it is displayed, only disappearing when the
desktop/icons are finally displayed.

See attached photos.

They are both after the panel has displayed, the second after one or
more additional notifications (system tray?) appear.

(Sorry about the quality of the photos - Since it had not yet finished
logging in, I assumed I would not be able to invoke screengrab fast
enough to catch the image I needed...)

Curiously, this effect does not occur when logging in after logging out
- just when logging in from a [re-]boot...

[Bug 1801445] [NEW] package aspell-en 2018.04.16-0-1 failed to install/upgrade: installed aspell-en package post-removal script subprocess returned error exit status 2

2018-11-02 Thread Chris Guiver
Public bug reported:

Maybe refer to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/scowl/+bug/1801443

I was away (household chores) whilst an full-upgrade was being run, so
didn't see till after.

I'm using -proposed (see other url for my sources; my mirror is two
hours behind)

Box was a 18.10 QA-test install maybe 4-6 weeks ago, xubuntu (I think)
but with lubuntu-desktop added, bumped to 19.04. It's x86 (i686 class)
only

[Bug 1801203] Re: Several minor issues with the Cosmic release version

2018-11-02 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
Calamares is apparently NOT present ("dpkg-query: no packages found
matching calamares") on the installed release version of Lubuntu 18.10
(as I had suspected), so I am reporting the 5 separate issues from the
live session. Fortunately, ubuntu-bug seems to work from a live
session...

[Bug 1801442] [NEW] Redundant boot-flag-clearing lines in overview window

2018-11-02 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
Public bug reported:

I don't use my Windows partition, except once in a while, when I need files
from it, so I do
not boot from it. When I saw "boot" checked, amongst various other flags, I
unchecked it
(I probably didn't need to - I don't know what all those flags do, anyway...)
On the overview summary, "Clear all flags for /dev/sda2" (or similar wording)
appeared 3 times.
I only unchecked one flag (only one was checked), so why the line was repeated
three times, I don't know...

[Bug 1801441] [NEW] Overview summary window is so tall, almost cannot see buttons

2018-11-02 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
Public bug reported:

After manually selecting partitions for installation, the overview summary
window is so tall that only the top of the buttons "Back", "Install", and
"Cancel" are visible.
I had to click on the window's Maximize button to see the whole button.
(I think I remember a later window having the same problem. but am not sure...)

Monitor Settings shows that the screen resolution defaulted to 1024 x 768 @
84.9967 Hz.
for this old-style CRT display, which according to the app, is capable of 1600
x 1200 max.
(It is actually capable of higher, with the nvidia-304 driver, which I am no
longer able
to install. My LubuntuN 17.10 uses some weird height of something like 1377...)

[Bug 1801438] [NEW] "Install Lubuntu 18.10" icon on desktop results in "Execute File" window appearing

2018-11-02 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
Public bug reported:

Double-clicking on the "Install Lubuntu 18.10" icon on the desktop in the
live-session results in
the Window "Execute File" appearing, and it asks what we want to do with
"...what seems to be a desktop entry". The options "Open", "Execute", and
"Cancel" appear (with "Execute" highlighted).
I suppose I should have figured "Execute" was the right option, but one
normally "Open"s an application, so I tried that first... Nope.

[Bug 1801439] [NEW] Unable to add PPA's via the software-properties

2018-11-02 Thread Clint Steed
Public bug reported:

Test
1. Start Software-properties. E.g. sudo software-properties-qt
2. Navigate to Other Software (Tab), Add -> Add, to add a PPA
3. Insert the PPA string. E.g. "deb
http://ppa.launchpad.net/graphics-drivers/ppa/ubuntu cosmic main "
4. Click Okay.

The software sources list does not contain the new field. Executing in
terminal results in the following error message.

[Bug 1801184] Re: tests time out on arm64 and armhf

2018-11-02 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Michael, or anyone else affected,

Accepted python-tornado into cosmic-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-
tornado/5.0.2-1.0ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-cosmic to verification-done-cosmic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-cosmic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

** Description changed:

  [impact]
The tests, both during build and in autopkgtest, tend to time out on slow
machines (e.g. when all builders are busy). The autopkgtest failures in
particular interfere with updating Python in Bionic and Cosmic.

  [test case]
- Just that the builds and autopkgtests complete successfully.
+ The builds and autopkgtests must complete successfully without stomping on
the retry button.

  [regression potential]
It's just setting an environment variable during build and autopkgtest which
has no impact on the built packages so there is no regression potential.

[Bug 1801437] [NEW] Both "Install Lubuntu 18.10" and "Install System" appear in the System menu of the Live session.

Public bug reported:

Upon booting with a USB live system of the release version of Lubuntu 18.10,
the system menu contains two entries that appear to be able to install the new
version.
One is labelled "Install Lubuntu 18.10" and the other is labelled "Install

I don't imagine that we need both options...

[Bug 1801436] [NEW] rhythmbox crashes constantly due to alternative-toolbar plugin

[Bug 1799339] Re: GeoClue times out on start

2018-11-02 Thread Steve Langasek
Please flesh out this SRU test case so that it can be clearly followed
by someone unfamiliar with xfce and redshift.

(Likewise, I don't know what to expect on an Ubuntu session wrt timezone
adjustment. Given that I have yet to find any option to let me manually
configure timezones in recent GNOME, to have the session start to change
timezone settings with no way to override through the UI sounds like it
would constitute a regression for some users.)

[Bug 1796499] Re: Keyboard calculator button not working

2018-11-02 Thread Steve Langasek
Seb, this is missing an SRU template, including a discussion of
regression-potential. I see that your patch is replacing the reference
to gnome-calculator.desktop with gnome-calculator_gnome-
calculator.desktop rather than supporting both, so if the user still has
the deb installed, won't this regress for those users? (Presumably
users of a flavor other than Ubuntu Desktop)

[Bug 1800214] Re: Enable TLS 1.3 by default in NGINX configs for Cosmic

2018-11-02 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Thomas, or anyone else affected,

Accepted nginx into cosmic-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nginx/1.15.5-0ubuntu2
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-cosmic to verification-done-cosmic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-cosmic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

** Description changed:

  [Reason for SRU]

Ubuntu Cosmic 18.10 ships with OpenSSL 1.1.1, which has TLS 1.3 support.
It was intended to enable TLS 1.3 in the default nginx.conf so that TLS
v1.3 support would be "enabled by default" if you enabled SSL, however
it did not get included due to my own schedule and issues.

TLS 1.3 is the newest TLS protocol version and is available in OpenSSL
1.1.1. Behind the scenes, if TLS 1.3 support is available in OpenSSL,
it's available to NGINX when compiled against that version of OpenSSL.

Enabling this by default in the NGINX configuration file is trivial to
do, simply add TLSv1.3 to the `ssl_protocols` list. Doing this in the
default config is probably a good idea since we have TLS v1.3 support
  available.

This would be specifically for Cosmic.

  [Regression Potential]

OpenSSL 1.1.1 is the latest stable release of OpenSSL as of September.
TLS 1.3 is the latest TLS protocol. The TLS 1.3 protocol is the latest
and 'more robust' TLS protocol version and should be used where
  possible.

- Regression potential for the change to enable TLSv1.3 by default for
- NGINX in Cosmic would be minimal, as OpenSSL already has this protocol
- available.
+ There is risk of regression for clients which fail to negotiate a
+ connection when TLS 1.3 is presented. This is a risk we are accepting
+ as a necessary evil of continuing to evolve the security of network
+ services on the Internet.

- Should this cause any regressions, reverting is very simple as we just
- remove TLSv1.3 from the ssl_protocols line in the nginx.conf file.
-
- There is a regression risk for *browsers and clients* accessing things
- running on NGINX - TLS 1.3 could have some rollout pains and some
- browsers and endpoint clients might barf as TLS 1.3 becomes a 'thing'.
- However, this is more or less on those clients to be a failure case, and
- if we get too many things breaking from this enabling TLS1.3 in addition
- to TLS 1.2, 1.1, and 1.0, we can just revert this change with the simple
- revision change indicated above (remove TLS1.3 from the ssl_protocols in
- nginx.conf)
+ If nginx-specific protocol negotiation regressions are identified with
+ the use of TLSv1.3 which are not seen with other TLSv1.3-enabled servers
+ in cosmic, these must still be treated with priority as SRU regressions.

  [Other Info]

It was completely intended prior to Cosmic's release that I would enable
TLSv1.3 as a 'default' supported TLS protocol in nginx.conf.
Unfortunately, things got a little bit busy for me and that change was
  not included.

It would be beneficial to include TLSv1.3 in NGINX default protocols due
to the additional security advantages that come with TLSv1.3.

Ok. But it does have a libssh-gcrypt-dev, is there any chance this meets
your needs?

[Bug 1799217] Re: [SRU] Really don't ship Yaru-dark

2018-11-02 Thread Steve Langasek
I understand the motivation, but given that this is not regression-free
per Jeremy's comment, I don't think this meets the SRU policy.
Rejecting from the queue; feel free to grab me on IRC if you believe
this should be discussed further.

Also, please note that the package that was uploaded to the queue
includes other changes which are not covered by this SRU bug:

  [ feichtmeier ]
  * Minor enhancement:
- add small margin to radiobutton radio in popovers and checks

  [ Aaron Papin ]
  * Minor enhancements:
- Treeview drop target is missing bottom green border + label
- Left part of focus ring not displayed

While these may be sensible changes, the SRU process still needs to be
followed.

[Bug 1794589] Re: libssl1.0-dev conflicts libssl-dev

2018-11-02 Thread Dan Kegel
Our project also links against libssh-dev (sorry, I meant to mention that),
which has the same problem, but lacks a libssh-openssl1.0-dev.

Also, it's somewhat jarring to have to change dependency names
when we build against ubuntu 18.04 vs. 16.04; we can do that,
and have done it, but it adds a layer of confusion.

Giving up on Ubuntu's node seems like the best option at the moment,
which makes me sad. But since the next version of node uses the 'right'
version of openssl for ubuntu 18.04, it's very very tempting to
grab that from debian and slam it in to our 18.04 under a different name
(as we did with nodejs6 for a while).

I'm fighting a rising tide of "just use docker and upstream everything",
so if you don't hear from me anymore, I may have drowned :-)

Ok, thanks for clarifying.

But there is a build of libcurl-openssl linked against libssl1.0 in 18.04,
and therefore compatible with nodejs (libcurl-openssl1.0-dev).

And if you are using libssl directly, then you should use the one that's
compatible with the other libraries that you depend on (in this case:
libssl1.0-dev which would be compatible with nodejs-dev). You wouldn't be
able to take advantage of newer features from OpenSSL 1.1, but that is the
tradeoff of using nodejs packages from an Ubuntu release before OpenSSL 1.1
support is complete.

Does the above configuration meet your needs for a coherently installable
set of build dependencies, or are there other ssl-depending Ubuntu library
packages in the mix besides?
