[Bug 1821276] [NEW] Add support for MAC address pass through on RTL8153-BD

2019-03-21 Thread Jesse Sung
Public bug reported:

== SRU Justification ==

* Impact:
RTL8153-BD is used in Dell DA300 type-C dongle and should be added to the
whitelist of devices to activate MAC address passthrough.

* Fix:
Two commits in upstream need to be applied in order to support this feature.
Both of them are in 5.0.

commit 8e29d23e28ee7fb995a00c1ca7e1a4caf5070b12
Author: David Chen david.ch...@dell.com
Date: Sat Feb 16 17:16:42 2019 +0800

r8152: Add support for MAC address pass through on RTL8153-BD

commit c286909fe5458f69e533c845b757fd2c35064d26
Author: David Chen david.ch...@dell.com
Date: Wed Feb 20 13:47:19 2019 +0800

r8152: Fix an error on RTL8153-BD MAC Address Passthrough support

* Testcase:
BIOS settings must be properly set before verifying.
1.[Settings][POST Behavior][MAC Address Pass-Through]: Passthrough MAC Address
2. There should be two MAC addresses in BIOS settings, ex:
[Settings][General][System Information]
Attach the dongle and see if MAC passthrough works.

* Risk of Regression:
Clean cherry-pick from mainline, and only add specific hardware to the
whitelist. Risk is low.

[Bug 1821272] Re: ubuntu-archive: devel is only a symlink rather than a suite

2019-03-21 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1821272/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1746772] Re: [MIR] pymacaroons, python-libnacl

2019-03-21 Thread Alex Murray
I reviewed pymacaroons 0.9.2-0ubuntu1 as checked in to Xenial.

pymacaroons is a python implementation of the Macaroon concept - like
cookies but with caveats, allowing delegation and attenuation of
authority - so kind of like capabilites (the real ones, not POSIX /
Linux ones).

- No CVE history in our database
- Depends:
  - debhelper, dh-python, python[3], python[3]-all, python[3]-libnacl,
python[3]-setuptools, python[3]-six
  - Nothing out of the ordinary for a python package, in particular uses
python[3]-libnacl for the crypto
- Does not itself do networking
- Does not daemonize
- No pre/post inst/rm
- No init scripts
- No dbus services
- No setuid files
- No binaries in the PATH
- No sudo fragments
- No udev rules
- No test suite - upstream has one but this does not seem to exist in
the orig tarball and no autopkgtest either :(
- No cron jobs
- Clean build logs

- No subprocesses spawned
- No file IO
- No logging
- No environment variable use
- No privileged functions
- No networking
- No privileged portions of code
- No temp files
- No WebKit
- No PolKit

No particular issues identified other than the missing test suite :/ -
security team ACK for promoting to main for Xenial/Trusty.

[Bug 1719545] Re: [P9][LTCTest][Opal][FW910] cpupower monitor shows multiple stop Idle_Stats

2019-03-21 Thread Khaled El Mously
@sthou...@in.ibm.com: Thanks for that test. Unfortunately I'm not quite sure
why the patch isn't fixing the problem. This was the patch that IBM submitted
upstream and reported that it fixes the problem. The patch applied cleanly to
bionic. I'm still investigating this further and may require your help in
testing it again if I can't reproduce the issue myself. Will update again
shortly.
Thanks.

[Bug 1821272] [NEW] ubuntu-archive: devel is only a symlink rather than a suite

2019-03-21 Thread Paul Wise (Debian)
Public bug reported:

The Ubuntu devel suite isn't a proper suite, just a symlink:

   $ curl -s http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/devel/Release | egrep
'Suite|Codename'
   Suite: disco
   Codename: disco

I would expect this output instead:

   $ curl -s http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/devel/Release | egrep
'Suite|Codename'
   Suite: devel
   Codename: disco

People using devel in their sources.list get a warning from apt:

   $ chdist create ubuntu-devel
   Now edit ~/.chdist/ubuntu-devel/etc/apt/sources.list
   Run chdist apt ubuntu-devel update
   And enjoy.
   $ sed -i '/ubuntu/{s/#//;s/dapper/devel/}'
~/.chdist/ubuntu-devel/etc/apt/sources.list
$ chdist apt ubuntu-devel -qq update
All packages are up to date.
   W: Conflicting distribution: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu devel
InRelease (expected devel but got disco)

[Bug 1821271] [NEW] New Intel Wireless-AC 9260 [8086:2526] card not correctly probed in Ubuntu system

2019-03-21 Thread You-Sheng Yang
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
New Intel Wireless-AC 9260 [8086:2526] card with subsystem id 4018 is not
correctly probed without the corresponding id entry in kernel.

[Fix]
Upstream commit 3941310cf665 "iwlwifi: add new card for 9260 series".

[Test Case]
Verified on Intel 9260D2WL.

[Regression Risk]
Low. This patch effectively adds new id match for a unsupported (yet) device
only.

[Bug 1679307] Re: [XPS 15 9560, Realtek ALC3266, Black Headphone Out, Left] No sound at all

2019-03-21 Thread Stephen
I use Ubuntu 18.04 (Linux version 4.15.0-46-generic
(buildd@lgw01-amd64-038) (gcc version 7.3.0 (Ubuntu 7.3.0-16ubuntu3))
#49-Ubuntu SMP Wed Feb 6 09:33:07 UTC 2019) and I also have this issue.

This command (as given above):

alsactl restore

does work for me ... until it happens again. And then I just use the
command again. It would be nice for this to be resolved.

[Bug 1821269] Re: [Aspire ES1-131, Realtek ALC255, Mic, Internal] No autoswitch (4-pole combo jack mic doesn't detect)

2019-03-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
For a 4-pole combo jack to work you need:

1. To be sure the laptop's socket supports 4 poles (is there a headset
icon next to it?); and

2. To be sure your headset uses the same standard as the laptop.
Unfortunately there are at least two different and incompatible
standards for 4-poles ("TRRS"):

https://www.cablechick.com.au/blog/understanding-trrs-and-audio-jacks/

I can't find any detailed specs or photos of that laptop. If you are
sure there's a headset icon next to the port then my next suggestion
would be to try a different type of headset (a PC headset instead of
Apple, or vice versa).

[Bug 1821169] Re: Jumpy touchpad input when upgrading to 19.04 from 18.04

2019-03-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
To verify if the problem really is with libinput please try:

1. Install the old Xorg touchpad driver:

   sudo apt install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

2. Reboot and then only log into Xorg sessions.

If that avoids the problem then please confirm by:

3. sudo apt remove xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

4. Reboot and verify the bug returns in Xorg sessions.

[Bug 1821262] Re: gnome-shell crashes when closing evolution

2019-03-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Firstly, please try uninstalling your extensions to see if that makes
the problem go away:

b'org.gnome.shell' b'enabled-extensions' b"['audio-input-
switcher@anduchs', 'audio-output-switcher@anduchs',
'caffe...@patapon.info', 'native-window-placement@gnome-shell-
extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'audio-selec...@bjarosze.gmail.com',
'audio-switcher@AndresCidoncha', 'output-audio-devices@muflone']"

Secondly...

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

In short does not click anywhere.

If everything including the panels doesn't respond to clicking, but the
cursor moves, then that means the gnome-shell process has frozen but
Xorg is still working (Xorg moves the cursor).

[Bug 1821059] Re: Screen remains black/off when the system is resumed from sleep

2019-03-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
You can certainly try using the old non-modesetting driver. To do that
you need to add a xorg.conf file forcing Xorg to use the old 'intel'
driver instead. Something like:

Section "Device"
  Identifier "MyGPU"
  Driver "intel"
EndSection

2019-03-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1813423 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1813423

Yes, the differences in hardware model and software don't matter here.
What's common is that it's an Intel GPU using the Xorg modesetting
driver, which uses the i915 kernel driver.

Your Nvidia GPU doesn't appear to be a problem here.

Maybe some safer instructions would be something like (not tested):

[Bug 1784774] Re: snapd is not autofs aware and fails with nfs home dir

2019-03-21 Thread Andrew Conway
I just tested restartung snapd while I am logged in via kerberos with an
autofs home directlry. It doesn't seem to help. In particular, I tried
launching system monitor (which uses snap) unsuccessfully. Using 18.04
with kerberos, and /home/ mounted via autofs.

Checking that /home is autofs will not solve the problem, if /home/user
is autofs, which is useful in the case of having a local user that has a
home directory in the standard place.

Installed is Debian Stretch/Sid with kernel 4.9.6.

Successful boot without crash is possible with
- disabled amdgpu (e.g. old nomodeset)
- or disabled iommu (iommu=off)
otherwise the kernel crashes and the file-system is corrupted.

iommu=off is much better way now, because the notebook runs in energy
efficient manner - the fan is quiet or stopped.

Attached are kernel messages using netconsle.

I think this because I tried to switch off external GPU using acpi_call module.
The following command was successful:

echo '\_SB_.PCI0.VGA.PX02' > /proc/acpi/call

while running kernel with no KMS (no amdgpu). Fan really went silent
after this, but kernel crashed in several seconds in similar way like
with amdgpu and active iommu.

The filesystem is after every crash corrupted. I'm afraid that storage
controller goes through iommu too and crash causes some random writes to
disk :(. But may be I am wrong and this ACPI call is illegal in reality
and amdgpu does something wrong regarding iommu to. Nevertheless amdgpu works
with iommu=off fine. Maybe the problem is with some buggy BIOS/firmware
from vendor.

I will try a newer kernel.

> This is pretty strange, could someone explain it to me? Wasn't mwait bugged

Looks like this patch makes kernel to ignore BIOS messages about unsupported
C-state.
this function used in "acpi_processor_ffh_cstate_probe" which further used in
"processor_idle.c" file. It cause "cx.entry_method" value change from
ACPI_CSTATE_SYSTEMIO to ACPI_CSTATE_FFH.

It is really strange that this patch works but idle=halt is not. Maybe this is
somehow silently disables C6 state.
Can your system reach turbo frequencies with this patch?
Maybe I understand something wrongly...

rdmsr yields 68010, which has bit 4 set.

[Bug 1690085]

2019-03-21 Thread jvdelisle
I am running Fedora on AMD Ryzen 5 2500U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx
with Gnome.

I use kernel parameters idle=nomwait iommu=pt processor.max_cstate=1 set
via grubby.

I am not getting any hangs unless I suspend with lid close or suspend on
power button. It would probably be better to not execute an MWAIT per
the errata. The method in comment 561 would work for those who have the
gumption to build their own kernel.

The iommu=pt I read about somewhere as useful to do, but I don't know if
it helps. Some suggest set idle=halt which also avoids the MWAIT
instruction.

I am also told that the DRI driver has an issue with loading at boot
which will hang the kernel.

Such a "fix" does not exist. Possibly because it is unlikely this is
causing it and BIOS might be applying the fix already. People with B1s
(model 1, stepping 1) could test though by doing as root:

# modprobe msr
# rdmsr -a 0xc0011020

and looking at bit 4 in the result.

[Bug 1821264] [NEW] gnome-software from xps 13 9365 with Dell-oem running Ubuntu 16.04 segfaults

2019-03-21 Thread Jill Manfield
Public bug reported:

installing Dell Oem.
Running update/upgrade
sudo -s
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade -y

Then running gnome-software results in the GUI loading but after 10
seconds it crashes and you see a segfault.

I tried information in +Bug/1798236 but U16 does not have a later
version of gnome-software. I also saw a bug similar that mentioned we
need packagekit 1.12 but U16 doesn't bundle that only U19 does. I tried
download a package for testing purposes but it does not resolve the
issue. I saw another case within our Dell database that suggests
appstream might cause the crash so I removed appstream and did and
update/upgrade again. It stopped the crash initially but not on reboot.
I also added the gnome3 repository in hopes I could get the updates that
way and that did not help either.

It is unclear what is needed to resolve this issue. Please let me know
what logs you need me to provide to look into this further.

[Bug 1790205] Re: systemd journals take up too much space, aren't vacuumed automatically

2019-03-21 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
I have filed the usability issue of --disk-usage upstream at
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/12063

** Bug watch added: github.com/systemd/systemd/issues #12063
   https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/12063

** Summary changed:

- systemd journals take up too much space, aren't vacuumed automatically
+ systemd journals take up a lot of space, and it's not obvious how much is
used, and what the upper limit is.

** Also affects: systemd via
   https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/12063
   Importance: Unknown
   Status: Unknown

** Description changed:

After running Bionic for 3 months, I had 2.6 GB of journals.

I would not expect from a normal desktop user that they should have to
run commands like `sudo journalctl --vacuum-time=10d`.

I would nominate this command as a sane default to have running at each
reboot to ensure that logs do not exceed 500 MB:

  sudo journalctl --vacuum-size=500M

Supposedly, a server should by default retain more logs, so perhaps this
should be implemented through a configuration package "systemd-
configuration-desktop" as a dependency of the ubuntu-desktop meta
  package?
+
+
+ . as it turns out, it's hard to see how much disk space is used, and what
the upper limit is, even when it is set and respected by default.

[Bug 1821262] [NEW] gnome-shell crashes when closing evolution

2019-03-21 Thread Joe Barnett
Public bug reported:

Had this happen a few times now, where closing the main evolution window
results in a gnome-shell crash:

Mar 21 16:55:18 taplop gnome-shell[2552]: The program 'gnome-shell' received an
X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the
program.
  The error was 'BadWindow (invalid
Window parameter)'.
(Details: serial 221715 error_code
3 request_code 18 (core protocol) minor_code 0)
(Note to programmers: normally, X
errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the
error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with
the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment
 variable to change this behavior.
You can then get a meaningful
 backtrace from your debugger if
you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

[Bug 1816846] Re: segfault in libc-2.23.so netinstall installation pxe

Confirming the same issue as Nathaniel and Derek after using the updated
both initrd.gz and linux files from
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/xenial-updates/main/installer-
amd64/current/images/netboot/ubuntu-installer/amd64/.

How to force it to use the 4.4.0.142 image in PXE boot?
I am new to PXE. Where should I add "d-i base-installer/kernel/image string
linux-image-4.4.0-142-generic"? My .cfg file does not conatin anything like
"d-i".
Any info is appreciated.

[Bug 1810583] Re: Daily cron restarts network on unattended updates but keepalived .service is not restarted as a dependency

2019-03-21 Thread Ben Hollins
Thanks Karl. This solution from Chris Aumann seems perfect, and I've
just deployed it onto our HAPROXY pair. Just restarted udev and
networkd, and everything survives as expected now. Much appreciated.

Since Bionic already has the fix commit applied,
the original kernel version doesn't hit the problem.

[Bug 1821259] [NEW] Hard lockup in 2 CPUs due to deadlock in cpu_stoppers

2019-03-21 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

 * This problem hard locks up 2 CPUs in a deadlock, and this
soft locks up other CPUs as an effect; the system becomes
   unusable.

 * This is relatively rare / difficult to hit because it's a
corner case in scheduling/load balancing that needs timing
with CPU stopper code. And it needs SMP plus _NUMA_ system.
(but it can be hit with synthetic test case attached in LP.)

 * Since SMP plus NUMA usually equals _servers_ it looks like
a good idea to prevent this bug / hard lockups / rebooting.

 * The fix resolves the potential deadlock by removing one of
the calls required to deadlock from under the locked code.

[Test Case]

 * There's a synthetic test case to reproduce this problem
(although without the stack traces - just a system hang)
   attached to this LP bug.

 * It uses kprobes/mdelay/cpu stopper calls to force the code
to execute and force the timing/locking condition to occur.

 * $ sudo insmod kmod-stopper.ko

Some dmesg logging occurs, and systems either hangs or not.
   See examples in comments.

[Regression Potential]

 * These are patches to the cpu stop_machine.c code, and they
change a bit how it works; however, there are no upstream
fixes for these patches anymore and they are still the top
of the 'git log --oneline -- kernel/stop_machine.c' output.

 * These patches have been verified with the synthetic test case
and 'stress-ng --class scheduler --sequential 0' (no regressions)
on guest with 2 CPUs and one physical system with 24 CPUs.

[Other Info]

 * The patches are required on Xenial and later.
 * There are 4 patches for Xenial, and 2 patches pending for Bionic.
 * All patches are applied from Cosmic onwards.

[Original Description]

These 2 hard lockups happened all of a sudden in the logs, and many soft
lockups occur after them as a fallout.
