[Bug 1841333] Re: "Unfortunately Probing for devices to install to failed. "

2019-08-24 Thread Karl
I tried installing 18.04.3 on an Intel Compute Stick (x64 atom), which
comes shipped with ubuntu 14.xx, with the same results. Since the
hardware is a bit odd, I'm not sure how relevant the error is. That
said, installation of 18.04.2 on this hardware purportedly worked.

2019-08-24 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1841333/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1679898] Re: [Hyper-V] Ubuntu VM crash during Hyper-V backup or live migration after installing kernel 4.4.0-72

2019-08-24 Thread Jay Utah
I have had this exact problem with Ubuntu Server 16.04 thru 18.04
current on Citrix XenServer from version 7.1 thru 7.6 current.

Either HVM or PV, it doesn't seem to matter. When I live-migrate a
Ubuntu Server VM, it seems like i have a 1/6 chance of the machine
freezing within about a minute of the migration being done.

This migration roulette is awful when its the production database or NFS
server. We've done a ton of XenServer updates thinking that would clear
up the problem, but it seems that it isn't a XenServer problem.

[Bug 1841132] Re: mpt3sas - storage controller resets under heavy disk io

2019-08-24 Thread Drew Woodard
Hi Kai-Heng, thanks for your response.

I followed your advice and installed these packages from the ppa:
linux-headers-5.3.0-050300rc5_5.3.0-050300rc5.201908182231_all.deb
linux-headers-5.3.0-050300rc5-generic_5.3.0-050300rc5.201908182231_amd64.deb
linux-image-unsigned-5.3.0-050300rc5-generic_5.3.0-050300rc5.201908182231_amd64.deb
linux-modules-5.3.0-050300rc5-generic_5.3.0-050300rc5.201908182231_amd64.deb

I then rebooted the system and checked versions with "uname -a" and "modinfo
mpt3sas":
(kernel 5.3.0) (mpt3sas driver 29.100.00.00)

The stress test has now been running for 4h with no errors, which is 8x as long
as the previous best on 18.04.
I will leave the stress test running overnight in the event that the bug still
exists but occurs less frequently.

[Bug 1841333] [NEW] "Unfortunately Probing for devices to install to failed. "

2019-08-24 Thread Maranda Davis
Public bug reported:

I downloaded Ubuntu Server 18.04.3 LTS and put it in a disc using the built in
windows 10 tools. I then put it in my computer and booted it up. After setting
my language and such it told me "Unfortunately Probing for devices to install
to failed. Please report a bug on launchpad and if possible include the
contents of the /var/log/installer directory." I also tried to burn it on a USB
drive with the tool Etcher and it did the same thing.
I don't know how to include the contents of the /var/log/installer directory or
if it is possible.

[Bug 1841331] [NEW] shortcuts defined in lxqt-panel and lxqt-runner doesn't work at start

2019-08-24 Thread Hans P . Möller
Public bug reported:

In lxqt shortcuts are mostly defined in lxqt-globalkeys, but lxqt-runner and
lxqt-panel also have their own place where they can be defined.
After upgrade from 21aug in eoan (apparently upgrade to 0.14.1-0ubuntu2), for
panel and runner shortcuts defined in their own places stop working and they
need to be restarted to take effect. And when they take effect, if
lxqt-globalkeys is restarted they fail again. Is like there is some specific
order in which they need to be started in order to work ok.

Tested in 3 different installations, 2 VM and 1 real, all of them
installed clean in 19.04 or before.

[Bug 1841330] Re: [HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14-ba1xx, Realtek ALC295, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2019-08-24 Thread anoopjohn
Thanks for looking into this. The system comes pre-installed with
Windows. The speaker works in Windows but I have not gotten it to work
yet on Ubuntu yet.

I played around with hdajackretask, snd-hda-intel model but nothing
seemed to work.

After I had posted this bug I was playing around with different
solutions. It looks like I ran into something that made it work.

I saw a post about booting into windows, shutting down the system
completely and then booting into Linux. It looks like that did the
trick. I had earlier only rebooted from Windows into Ubuntu but never
shutdown and reboot.

[Bug 1841324] Re: installing one app in 2 versions, Ubuntu and non-Ubuntu

2019-08-24 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better

In order for this to proceed, we need to know

(1) your release of Ubuntu, architecture, (`apport-collect 1841324`)
(2) your package version of ubuntu-software (apt-cache policy `ubuntu-software`)
(3) how the other Chromium was installed. Was it flatpak?, snap?, appimage?
compiled from source? etc

Ubuntu-software only knows about a subset of the packages/meta-packages
found in your listed apt sources, but has awareness of some snaps. Many
popular package managers present all packages available but usually
don't know about snaps. Neither though will know about appimages or
flatpaks, and cannot know about software compiled from source.

I am not a developer, but suspect what you want may not be possible, but
we cannot know until more information is provided.

If you provide the details, please respond in comment (or description)
and return the status to 'New'. Likewise if you believe I'm in error,
please respond in comment and change to 'New'.

Thanks again for helping make Ubuntu better.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively"

if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at

[Bug 1836823] Re: python-acme will break on November 1st

2019-08-24 Thread James Hebden
Robie, Brad -

I've made adjustments to the buster package (0.31.0-2) and pushed the
changes to my Salsa guest account as discussed:
https://salsa.debian.org/ec0-guest/acme/commits/ubuntu

I have tested this branch against Xenial, Bionic, Cosmic and Disco and
the resulting package builds and installs alongside the existing
distribution packages, and attempting to do a registration indeed speaks
to the v2 ACME endpoint using the regular distro certbot command.

I have also run the package test suite on each distribution without
issue. I have attached also a debdiff.

** Patch added: "Package debdiff for building on all current Ubuntu versions"

I can confirm that.

CUPS got 100% CPU in an environment where i've some KONICA-MINOLTA MFP,
and i've the same errors in logs:

Note that i move my PC between at least 3 environment (home, work site
1, work site 2) with similar configuration, and only on 'site 1' (where
i've KONICA-MINOLTA MFP i got 100% CPU.

[Bug 1832144] Re: Ubuntu 19.04 suspend freeze on Dell inspiron 7373

2019-08-24 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
In general we should find "PM: suspend entry (deep)" when attempting to
suspend but it's not in the log. So the system may freeze before that.

Since nothing useful was logged, I don't think I am capable of debugging this.
If you want to take the adventure, this can be a good start:

[Bug 1841324] [NEW] installing one app in 2 versions, Ubuntu and non-Ubuntu

2019-08-24 Thread Nick via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

Two copies of the Chromium browser were on my Ubuntu laptop. (A recent
update mentioned Chromium, so maybe that's when it happened.) They were
the same version except that one was Ubuntu's and the other was not
(75.0.3770.142 (Official Build) snap (64-bit)). I opened both but didn't
see a difference except in the version string, but I didn't explore in
depth. I checked the Ubuntu Software app and found only one listing for
Chromium and it showed as having been installed.

I decided to uninstall. There was no way visible to choose which
Chromium would be uninstalled.

The result was that the Ubuntu one uninstalled but the non-Ubuntu one
stayed. The Ubuntu Software app then said that Chromium was not
installed, although actually the non-Ubuntu version of Chromium was
still present. The Ubuntu Software app has the same report even after a
cold reboot.

Since the Ubuntu Software app incorrectly says that Chromium is not
installed, I installed it ("Version 75.0.3770.142 (Official Build) Built
on Ubuntu , running on Ubuntu 18.04 (64-bit)" (sic)). This gave me two
icons for Chromium, so I uninstalled one, with the same result as above.

No crash was apparent at any stage.

I prefer that I be given a choice of which version to uninstall and that
the Ubuntu Software app recognize that an app is currently installed.

[Bug 1841321] Re: Curtin Fails to Validate Storage Config with Crucial P1 NVMe drive

2019-08-24 Thread Ryan Harper
Thanks for filing the bug.

A "quickfix" would involve getting into the installer shell, manually
patching the curtin python source on the instance, and then re-running
the install. I've not poked around inside the installer so I'm not sure
where the the subiquity snap keeps curtin. If you do find it then you
can apply this change:

The line change needed for curtin to match the WWID of the nvme device:

diff --git a/curtin/block/schemas.py b/curtin/block/schemas.py
index fb7507d..96b3eb6 100644
--- a/curtin/block/schemas.py
+++ b/curtin/block/schemas.py

+{'pattern': r'^(nvme|eui)+\.(\d|[a-zA-Z]|\-)+'},
+],
 },
 'grub_device': {
 'type': ['boolean', 'integer'],

I'm putting but a branch to fix this pattern and when it his curtin
master, when the subiquity snap is rebuilt and published, then the
installer will pick up the fix as well.

[Bug 1841323] [NEW] mystery message during HDD unlocking

2019-08-24 Thread Nick via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

On my Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS laptop, after a cold boot, after I enter the
password for unlocking the boot hard drive, five dots change colors at a
rate of about one dot per second. Based on that timing, about 90 seconds
into the process (the dots changing colors takes about 99 seconds and
the dots graphic in some form is up for about 110 seconds) a message
appears on screen, saying something about using ctrl-c. The message is
maybe two lines long and is displayed only for about a second. I don't
know what it says.

It wouldn't help to tell me what it says. I likely won't have that
report with me when I boot, say, a few months from now.

The package is as proposed by Launchpad and I'm not using that laptop
now so I don't know the version. No crash was apparent.

Please post the message for long enough for most people to read it and
decide what to do. If it offers an action that can only be invoked
during a brief period, please rephrase it to tell us what we will be
able to do when that moment comes and then have it tell us when that
moment has arrived.

Even better would be to lengthen the time period during which the action
can be invoked with the intended effect.

I acknowledge there were some horrible changes in the past but the
current page should be valid.

[Bug 1841320] [NEW] You break the rule Icon doesn't look real :)

2019-08-24 Thread klfyt
Public bug reported:

I believe you just break the rule of
"this icon does not look real".
Each icon you create has to look real
at some level.

[Bug 1841313] Re: Asus X451MA does not boot with linux > 4.15.0-55

2019-08-24 Thread axt
> Linux Mint 18.3 (Ubuntu 16.04.3)

At the first: Mint is *not* Ubuntu, it is only based on it with several
changes, additions and withheld packages.

As a basis I would always have flashed the last available BIOS/UEFI. But
216 is already on your Asus X451MA.

"r8169 can't disable aspm" (your screenshot) is an information, not an
error.

Are the kernels fully installed, i.e. is there _enough space_ on a
possibly separate boot partition?

But...Xenial is obsolete (only original Ubuntu Xenial has 5 years "LTS"
status), kernel 4.15 is very _old_ (it must be maintained by Canonical
or the distributions that use it). I know Mint allegedly also supports
18.3, but at best Cinnamon and other additives.

You should install a recent distribution...and on an Atom Silvermont
N3540 with a lightweight desktop environment (LDisco with LXQt,
LBionic.3 with LXDE).

[Bug 1839777] Re: PC frezzes under NO heavy workload and gnome-shell.crash is created

2019-08-24 Thread ProfWoland
Trouble is that I can't produce freeze when I want it happens out of the random
and the thing that I use button to turn it off so I doubt it can record why
that happened and I think that is why it shows "on login screen" because it
throws error at me when I boot after freezing. I looked again and now it shows
has "1000.crash. reports.
Also it has freezed like an hour ago but it throw me on login screen and in
/var/crash was file modified approximately in same time and it was "122.crash"
also whenever it throws at me window to send report I don't get secondary
window to send report so it doesn't send reports.

[Bug 1841318] [NEW] some crash rest to a "dash" on left, old system ???

2019-08-24 Thread charles marshall
Public bug reported:

I have a dual boot system that somehow got corrupted on the ubuntu side.
What causes it I do not have a clue. There are two very shaky, blurred
screens. Pressing the firefox icon open up browser fine and all seems to
work. The display is different from what I gotten use to, but it seems
ok. If I close, I get the shaky, very annoying display.

I wish I could give you more helpful info. I tried some stuff on the
terminal that I got readying internet. I think I must have had another
"display" stuffed on top of my original. I don't know how so I am just
guessing. I did not have the "dash"??? on the left before. Now, I do.

I am 78 years old and I choose Ubuntu because I like it. I do not do a
lot of "programing" type of stuff. Ubutnu Mate is what I was using, I
think.

Hope there is something that helps you. Thank you so much for your help.
Ubuntu is a good system.

Thanx, Charlie

[Bug 1686084] Re: x11vnc terminates with **stack smashing detected** error

2019-08-24 Thread Santiago Gala
I'm seeing it consistently on 18.04.3 LTS. Fairly easy to reproduce by
installing idle in the machine running x11vnc, starting idle and
clicking in any of the menus. 9 out of 10 times it crashes x11vnc.

[Bug 1833498] Re: djvulibre mimetype definition is incorrect and not needed

2019-08-24 Thread Tigran Aivazian
The link to https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=786511 doesn't
allow leaving comments because no account can be created in this system
(called "bugzilla" or something --- I vaguely remember maybe 15-20 years
ago it was working, but now it doesn't). I tried to create an account in
order to leave the comment pointing out the error in their decision to
not support single-page djvu files.

a mistake. There is no valid reason to do so whatsoever.

** Description changed:

  Linux 4.15.0-58-generic #64-Ubuntu SMP Tue Aug 6 11:12:41 UTC 2019 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
  error similar to:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1798921

however, all kernel patches do not fix this error !!

maybe it is related to specific hardware / BIOS version?
in my case the Samsung R780 laptop
  terminal fix helps:
  sudo modprobe -r sky2; sudo modprobe -i sky2

  or an entry in GRUB
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT = "quiet splash pci = nomsi, noaer"
I think the problem is rather related to the option: pci = nomsi, noaer
  regards!
