[Bug 1844195] Re: beegfs-meta lockup with glibc 2.27 on bionic

2019-09-20 Thread Ekrem SEREN
Hi, we have the same issue. I can confirm that after attaching gdb to
the beegfs-meta process, it resumes normal operation.

On our system it seems the issue is recuring more or less around 24h.

Release: Ubuntu 18.04.1 bionic
Kernel: 4.15.0-39-generic
libc6: 2.27-3ubuntu1

[Bug 1844847] [NEW] System isn't using amdgpu so its defaulting to vesa driver.

2019-09-20 Thread Curt
Public bug reported:

the kernels after 4.15.0-55-generic give this error in sys.log:

Sep 20 18:56:09 curt-desktop kernel: [1.783787] amdgpu :01:00.0: Direct

been initialized
Sep 20 18:56:09 curt-desktop kernel: [1.784033] amdgpu: probe of

so amdgpu isn't working after that kernel, thus it uses VESA for video.
So I have no dual monitors any more.

[Bug 1844841] Re: Changes within a directory only appear if manually refreshing with F5

2019-09-20 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 184481

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

I also just tested this on my 19.10 box (thunar: Installed: 1.8.9-1) and didn't
have an issue on directories created within thunar itself, nor an opened
terminal where I `mkdir /path/new-dir` with `thunar` showing the directory on
which I was creating the directory. I tested this using both local
directories, and NFS directories stored on another box. (I realize my box is a
different version; it's my belief I'll get the same response on 19.04 &
currently don't have time to start up a 19.04 box, but please read on)

Are the directories you are creating being created on your existing
box/session? or from another box (eg. if I `ssh` to the server where my
directory is actually stored & create directory there, my local
machine's thunar which is displaying the directory located on the other
box does not see that creation, as it was done on another box - is this
the sort new file/folder creation you mean??)

I've marked this incomplete, please provide more detail as requested, or
clarification, (or tell me if I'm wrong), then please return the status
of this bug to "New"

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

[Bug 1834967] Re: Activities overview doesn't shrink some windows adequately and they are partially off screen

2019-09-20 Thread Robert
Ok, I did not manage to figure this one out yet, but I did find
something interesting. The windows actually scale differently depending
on whether the panel is extended or not. You can just install dconf-
editor and go to /org/gnome/shell/extensions/dash-to-dock and toggle
extend-height in order to change this setting.

I caused the clipping to show up by just launching gedit and maximizing
it before going to the overview. You can see from the attached
screenshot that the only difference in the activities view is the panel
on the right-side is not extended, and yet the gedit window on the left
looks much larger, as though it was zoomed in. That is what is causing
the clipping and why Fedora is unaffected even with the same extension.
The scaling in Fedora is identical to the right-hand side of the image
where the panel is not extended. There is some difference in how the
windows are being drawn.

Another example: If I open two non-maximized gedit windows, in Fedora
they will appear side by side. In Ubuntu? Top and bottom, with the
bottom clipped.

I tried looking at a diff of the Ubuntu Dock code vs stock dash-to-dock,
but I wasn't able to find any difference relating to size/scaling of the
windows, so I'm not sure exactly what is causing it.

[Bug 1844841] [NEW] Changes within a directory only appear if manually refreshing with F5

2019-09-20 Thread Douglas Silva
Public bug reported:

When a file changes, or when a new file or folder is created in a
directory, and Thunar is showing that directory, changes will not be
visible until you press F5.

This is not the case for the desktop (where my wallpaper is). Changes
there are shown in real time, as expected.

[Bug 1834967] Re: Activities overview doesn't shrink some windows adequately and they are partially off screen

2019-09-20 Thread Robert
@carlosjosepita

The thing is that dash-to-dock also adopts Ubuntu Dock settings, since
that is what Ubuntu Dock is based on. So if I remove Ubuntu Dock, for
example, but then install dash-to-dock, it actually starts in panel
mode. (that is not a default) The fact that this bug does not seem to
occur in Fedora 30 with dash-to-dock (v66) installed makes me believe it
is some Ubuntu Dock specific thing, but I am just speculating atm.

[Bug 1834967] Re: Activities overview doesn't shrink some windows adequately and they are partially off screen

2019-09-20 Thread Robert
I attempted to replicate this bug on Fedora 30 in a VM by installing
dash-to-dock and enabling panel mode, but the previews do scale properly
there. So strange...

In Ubuntu, you can easily replicate this bug by installing Ubuntu 19.10
in a VM and just launching Firefox, Files, and Rhythmbox. As the largest
window, Firefox is put down to the bottom and clipped. At least on my
system, disabling panel mode fixes the issue to where I can basically
create infinite previews and see all the window titles, and re-enabling
it triggers the clipping once again.

[Bug 1834967] Re: Activities overview doesn't shrink some windows adequately and they are partially off screen

2019-09-20 Thread Robert
Here is a proper screenshot. The bug occurs whenever the windows become
large enough or numerous enough, at which point they overflow past the
bottom screen in the Activities Overview. They are clipped to where if
you highlight them, you cannot see their window titles. I tested not
having the dock installed and this problem did not appear, so it seems
to be a bug in the extension.

In fact, I just installed the dash-to-dock extension, and if you turn
off the 'panel mode' so that the dock does not extend all the way down,
the problem goes away.

Are there any work-arounds or planned fixes to this problem?

I'm getting the same fault when deleting a large number of files from a

mkdir test_dir; for i in {1..300}; do touch test_dir/$i; done ; rm

After this, fsck cannot fix the HFS+ partition, meaning all files are

For what this is worth... I'm running a fully-updated Lubuntu system
(18.04.3 LTS) and I'm still seeing this problem with leafpad and smb
shares. Leafpad shows version "Leafpad 0.8.18.1" on the help/about
screen. It appears that there was a fix released in Debian 6 months
ago, but either it didn't make it down to the lubuntu repositories, or
it didn't get fixed.

[Bug 1844830] [NEW] cannot set freq 16000 to ep 0x86

2019-09-20 Thread themusicgod1
Public bug reported:

similar to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/459445
and https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/884210 , when
booting with a Logitech QuickCam plugged in:

Bus 001 Device 008: ID 046d:08c1 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Fusion

the system starts to hang, it has no sound output, and /var/log/syslog
is filled with lines like

Sep 20 13:36:36 eva kernel: [ 4210.449077] usb 1-6: 3:3: cannot set freq
16000 to ep 0x86

unplugging quickcam and replugging it is a workaround, but it would be
nicer if the system didn't go into a state where it hangs / has no sound
to begin with.

kernel:
Linux eva1 4.15.0-45-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jan 29 16:28:13 UTC 2019 x86_64

[Bug 1844829] [NEW] Windows can be clipped in Activities Overview

2019-09-20 Thread Robert
Public bug reported:

If the windows you have open are large enough or numerous enough, the
bottom previews will be clipped. This behavior did not happen previously
afaik, as the windows would re-scale to avoid this, as they do without
the dock installed. This is with a default installation of Ubuntu 19.10
and Ubuntu-Dock.

Attached is a screenshot showing the behavior that I am talking about.
If you mouse over the windows at the bottom, they are so far off the
screen that you are unable to read their window titles any longer.

 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1681830] Re: No Label for LVM Encryption Passwords

2019-09-20 Thread Moses McKnight
The bug is still there in kubuntu 18.04.2 and it confusing. I needed to
encrypt the disk so I selected that option, but there was no indication
what those boxes were for. It was obvious they were required however
since the Continue button was grayed out when selecting that option. I
finally decided it must be for passphrase entered twice, and that proved
correct.

[Bug 1844827] [NEW] [Ffe] bzr

2019-09-20 Thread Gianfranco Costamagna via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

package pending on bileto:
https://bileto.ubuntu.com/#/ticket/3810

Brief explanation:
meliae has been removed from eoan, breaking breezy and bzr testsuites.

bzr 2.7.0+bzr6622-17 tried to fix the testsuite, but removing the python
package broke bzr-* reverse-dependencies testsuites.

Debian is now moving from bzr to brz, I know somebody tried to push the
transition, but we were late in the process.

So the question is: should this bileto land or not?

Will this patch be in the future stable Linux releases ? I mean if Linux 5.3.1
will have this patch by default.
It is curiosity because I don't know how Linux versions works

[Bug 1843999] Re: Printing fails since last update

2019-09-20 Thread Adrian Midgley
I had previously installed Gimp-Gutenprint as the driver for the
printer, via the control panel, and in fact going via Gimp File Print
gets a print, with the Gutenprint options in the "ordinary" print
dialogue. I'm not sure it is quite so good though, so far, and I don't
have the icc profile stuff.

[Bug 1840726] Re: Write files to a CD or DVD does not mention how to install Brasero

2019-09-20 Thread Jim
Nothing happens, no notification popups.

Maybe its just my external usb dvd burner, but autoplay doesn't seem to.
Even if i go to:
settings -> devices -> removable media -> other media -> blank dvd disc
The default action is "CD/DVD Creator", but changing it to Brasero doesn't
automatically start it when i insert an empty dvd.

So now i'm not sure if "CD/DVD Creator" is a different program than
"Brasero", and maybe a default install does include it. (i did a minimum
install)

[Bug 1843144] Re: Nvidia card consumes large amount of power in suspend mode

2019-09-20 Thread Matt W
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1836630 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1836630

I "applied" the patch by commenting out the line in
/usr/src/nvidia-430.50/nvida/nv.c that is referred to in the link AceLan
posted, then I used apt-get install --reinstall on the nvidia-dkms
package to see if that would make the system compile and install the
edited source files.

After that it seems the power drain issue is fixed.

[Bug 1844815] [NEW] appindicators for startup applications missing from top bar upon login

2019-09-20 Thread Jonathan Kamens
Public bug reported:

I have two startup applications configured, flameshot and yubioath-
desktop. After upgrading this morning from 19.04 to 19.10, these two
applications are being started when I log in, but their appindicator
icons are not showing up in the top bar. Restarting gnome-shell with
Alt-F2 r does not help. To make the icons show up I have to kill and
restart the two applications. This is a regression from 19.04.

[Bug 1844809] [NEW] clicking desktop notifications to bring up linked up works intermittently in 19.10?

2019-09-20 Thread Jonathan Kamens
Public bug reported:

This is not going to be the highest quality bug report :-(, since it's
an intermittent issue and I don't know exactly what triggers it and I
can't even say with 100% certainty that it's new in 19.10, but I _think_
it is so I wanted to give people a heads-up just in case.

I just upgrade to 19.10 from 19.04. I use the Google Hangouts Chrome
app. When I get a text message in Hangouts it pops up a desktop
notification. Usually clicking on the notification causes the Hangouts
window to open. When I clicked on the notification nothing happened.
Then I got a second notification later and clicked on that one and the
window opened as it should have. Then I got a third notification later
and clicked on that one and again the window didn't open.

I _believe_, though I can't say for certain, that this worked
consistently in 19.04.

Yes, just updating the patch to your latest version. I'm ok if it needs to be

[Bug 1844811] [NEW] system menu is no longer dark in Yaru-dark or Adwaita-dark theme

[Bug 1844808] [NEW] in 19.10 can't delete file from desktop by clicking it and hitting delete key

2019-09-20 Thread Jonathan Kamens
Public bug reported:

Just upgraded to 19.10 today. Previously, in 19.04, I could delete a
file from the desktop by clicking on it and hitting the delete key. That
no longer works.

It's probably relevant that it doesn't appear to be possible to direct
keyboard focus to the desktop itself any longer. When I click on an icon
on the desktop and then hit the delete key, the keystroke is sent to the
window that had focus before I clicked. This appears to be true
regardless of what window focus mode I'm using (Click to Focus, Focus on
Hover, or Secondary-Click). Note that the description of Secondary-
Click, "Window is focused when hovered with the pointer. Hovering the
desktop removes focus from the previous window," does not appear to be
true. When I select that focus mode and hover my mouse over the desktop
I remain focused on the previously focused window.

Not really understand that why the regression happen in #12 but not in #10.
And I also check installing nvidia-dkms-430 with proposed dkms and it looks
works well.

installation:

dpkg -l | grep "nvidia\|dkms":

So, I believe both #10 and #12 is miss alarm.

[Bug 1844805] [NEW] virtualbox, virtualbox-dkms, virtualbox-qt fail during upgrade from 19.04 to 19.10

2019-09-20 Thread Jonathan Kamens
Public bug reported:

I upgraded this morning from 19.04 to 19.10 with `do-release-upgrade -d`
and the upgrade reported that virtualbox, virtualbox-qt, and virtualbox-
dkms encountered problems during the upgrade.

I uninstalled and reinstalled them after rebooting and saw this:

```
ERROR (dkms apport): kernel package linux-headers-5.0.0-29-generic is not
supported
Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 5.0.0-29-generic (x86_64)
Consult /var/lib/dkms/virtualbox/6.0.12/build/make.log for more information.
```

I think this means the version of virtualbox in 19.10 doesn't want to
compile against a 19.04 kernel?

The problem with this, of course, is that everyone who upgrades from
19.04 to 19.10 is going to have a 19.04 kernel installed during the
upgrade (and afterward, since one old kernel is saved), so the upgrade
will fail for everyone with virtualbox installed. I think this needs to
be fixed?

2019-09-20 Thread Micha
Is there any hope that this will ever be fixed by someone?

Not even Kodi does work on the laptop - cannot verify if it is the same
problem - but the osd while playback video looks the same (striped) way
as the menubar of the Unity-desktop...think its the same problem.

There is almost nothing we can do with these laptops until someone will
fix this!

[Bug 1844802] [NEW] Update to supervisor 4.0.0 or later for Python 3 support

2019-09-20 Thread redshiftzero
Public bug reported:

The version of supervisor currently packaged here is compliant only with
Python 2. Since Python 2 will EOL in a few months (January 1, 2020), it
would be good to update to a version of supervisor that is based on
Python 3. The first supervisor version on PyPI that supports Python 3 is
4.0.0:
https://github.com/Supervisor/supervisor/issues/1060#issuecomment-480438643,
so it would be nice to update to at least 4.0.0 or later.

[Bug 1621732] Re: gedit doesn't show last newline

2019-09-20 Thread Skeukry
This command fixes this issue (somewhat):
gsettings set org.gnome.gedit.preferences.editor ensure-trailing-newline false

By disabling the automatic addition of a last newline, gedit will show the
actual last newline. I would argue that it's rather an issue of
'ensure-trailing-newline' being unintuitive.

[Bug 1831297] Re: Gnote application menu should contain a Preferences item

2019-09-20 Thread Paul White
The upstream bug was closed on 2019-06-08 saying that the Preferences
menu item was visible using gnote 3.32.1 in Fedora.

I can confirm that the Preferences menu item is visible in Ubuntu 19.10
(dev) where gnote 3.32.1-1 is now available.

Closing as fixed.

** Changed in: gnote (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => Fix Released
