[Bug 1853468] Re: Postgres upgrade says warning unknown distribution NEON

2019-11-21 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Eddie,
190ubuntu0.1 suggests that you are on Ubuntu bionic or something derived from
that.

The package needs to know where it runs, and it does so via /etc/os-
release

# we have /etc/os-release, use it
if [ -r /etc/os-release ]; then
. /etc/os-release
DISTRO="${ID:-unknown}"
RELEASE="${VERSION_ID:-unstable}" # unstable doesn't have this field

Based on that in /usr/share/postgresql-common/supported-versions there is a
mapping which default now applies.
That could for example be
DISTRO=Ubuntu
RELEASE=18.04

Which would map to postgresql 10.

In your case that isn't true. You are not running Ubuntu but a derivative.
If that decides to change these values then packages might stumble over that.
There is nothing to fix here, it is part of KDE-Neon as a downstream to
maintain a Delta for this just as Ubuntu does to Debian and Debian does to
upstream.

WHen tmux 3.0 is really released we should check if the fix is in and if not
maybe backport for the scope of Ubuntu 20.04.
But for now give upstream some time to release things...

No, it means we may need some special quirk for this system.

If there's no better way to handle this, we may need to disable runtime
power management as a last resort.

[Bug 1853200] Re: cpu features hle and rtm disabled for security are present in /usr/share/libvirt/cpu_map.xml

2019-11-21 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
This was now accepted upstream in qemu.
[1] is the merge commit containing the new names discussed here 02fa60d1 /
9ab2237f but also tsx-ctrl which seems to be part of the overall tsx handlign
and not yet part of the patches of last week 2a9758c5.

@security - are you gonna take a look at picking those up?

P.S. I haven't seen similar updates to libvirt CPU maps yet.

The kernel boots fine. At first glance it seems to me somehow you get
either corrupted filesystem or corrupted binaries installed. With some
more googling, it could also be bad memory module installed[1]. Could
you try removing/replacing them?

system previously, so I decided to connect my hp printer with my router.
At the time of connecting, it wanted a WPS pin. I somehow found the WPS
pin on hp printer from https://errorcode0x.com/wps-pin-on-hp-printer/
and connected it. But then my scanner is not working anymore. What
should I do now?

[Bug 1830961] Re: Kernels & kernel drivers fail to build with gcc-9 [error: ‘-mindirect-branch’ and ‘-fcf-protection’ are not compatible]

2019-11-21 Thread You-Sheng Yang
Copied SRU justification from bug 1848922.

** Description changed:

+ [SRU Justification for backport-iwlwifi-dkms]
+
+ [Impact]
+ FTBFS against v5.3 kernels on Eoan/Focal.
+
+ [Fix]
+ * Backport fix from upstream commit f47729b94e11 (backport: rename
ktime_get_boot_ns for v5.3+).
+ * Also updates -fcf-protection=none usage for bug
+ 1830961.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Verified DKMS module build on linux-oem/linux-oem-osp1/linux-generic >= 4.10
kernels on series Xenial/Bionic/Cosmic/Disco/Eoan and Focal.
+
+ [Regression Risk]
+ Low. There is no functional changes in comparison to 7906-0ubuntu1.
+
+ original bug description
+
Compiling kernels & kernel modules fails due to these errors:

  ./include/linux/compiler.h:193:1: error: ‘-mindirect-branch’ and ‘-fcf-
  protection’ are not compatible

(This happens with any kernel modules.)

This appears to be due to the changes in 9.1.0-3ubuntu1 enabling -fcf-
protection by default on 19.10's gcc-9.

Switching to gcc-8 allows compilation to proceed.

  WORKAROUND:

  sudo ln -fs gcc-8 /usr/bin/gcc

[Bug 1853550] [NEW] lubuntu 20.04 live daily; unable to make use of virtual keyboard

2019-11-21 Thread Chris Guiver
Public bug reported:

Lubuntu 20.04 Daily QA-test on
motion computing j3400 (c2d-u9400, 4gb, intel mobile 4 series)

The plan was to use this tablet-pc without it's keyboard. It is the
equivalent of mouse-only device, and whilst I could get FCITX active on
panel, and virtual keyboard to show, I was unable to make use of it to
connect to wifi, enter details into firefox, qterminal etc.

I'd not want to use a PC that way, but I suspect we'll have users who
will want to. This could be a WISHLIST request.

[Bug 1838796] Re: TPM event log does not contain events measured after ExitBootServices

2019-11-21 Thread VINAY RAJESH
I have verified the kernel image provided above. The PCR5 values in the
TCG logs and in the TPM match. I have also verified that the
ExitBootServices event is present in the binary_bios_measurements.
However, I see there is a mismatch for PCR4 and PCR7 between the TCG
logs and the TPM values. I am not sure if that is expected or is it
something to be concerned about.

PCR4 logs the EFI Service Application events. Attaching screenshots of
the PCR values and PCR4 log events for your reference.

An alternative, that I can see beyond editing the whole iso file:

- Add a menuentry in the iso file. This menuentry should have the boot
option 'persistent' alongside the other boot options. So there would be
two standard boot options, live and persistent live.

I will try to start a discussion in the Ubuntu Forum for the developing

[Bug 1853542] [NEW] X hangs for several seconds periodically when no GL clients are open

2019-11-21 Thread Noah Meyerhans
Public bug reported:

Not sure if this is an issue with the X server or with the kernel i915
module, so I'm starting with X.

The system is a Thinkpad X1 Carbon, Gen 7. Details on the graphics
hardware (from lspci -vv) are below. BIOS is up-to-date as of Nov. 21.

The symptom is that X will not redraw screen state for several seconds
at a time under certain circumstances. Characters typed into a window,
or an application that attempts to redraw regularly, are the easiest
demonstration of this. E.g. running 'vmstat 1' in a terminal (which
should print one line of text every second), I see no activity for
roughly 5 seconds, and then all 5 seconds worth of content are printed.

Generating some activity with the mouse/trackpad seems to trigger a
refresh before the full time delay expires.

This problem does *not* occur in the default Ubuntu GNOME environment.
It appears that it only occurs when there are no GL clients running. In
a minimal "failsafe" X session, it is reproducible 100% of the time. In
a failsafe session with the "glxdemo" program from the "mesa-utils"
package installed, the problem does not occur. I suspect that there's
enough GL usage in the standard GNOME configuration that this doesn't
affect most users, but my default X session doesn't use much GL.

Re: [Bug 1853525] [NEW] no python 2.7.17 in LTS version

2019-11-21 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
I am sorry you have an issue with python on Ubuntu.

By policy, Ubuntu does not blindly upgrade toolchains to point releases in
an LTS release, but we go through extensive validation with rebuild and
autopkgtests across all of our supported 6 architectures, which is usually
in excess of upstream testing. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates

Note your bug report suggests that you are using out of date package. rc1
is not the latest version of python2.7 in bionic. It has been updated to
final release, and has had security updates since. Can you please verify
you are using 2.7.15-4ubuntu4~18.04.2 ?

What particular issue are you having? Can you provide a minimized
reproducer? Traceback? Segfault / coredump? If we have those details about
the issue you are experiencing we can work towards resolving it with
regression testcase, patch and eventual release of an SRU.

I understand you feel frustrated, but please take some time to explain in
detail the issue you are experiencing.

[Bug 1853525] Re: no python 2.7.17 in LTS version

2019-11-21 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Python 2 is very near EOL & thus Debian & Ubuntu have been working to
remove it as much as possible; ie. getting packages that use python
ported to use python3 instead, with only security fixes the exception.

Please refer https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Python/Python36Transition or

[Bug 1853521] Re: ı cant install ubuntu ı have an error "errno 5" input/output problem

2019-11-21 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

This package failure looks like it was caused by bad ISO download,
corrupted install media, or device failure. eg. look in the logs and
you'll see messages like these :-

Nov 21 21:30:51 ubuntu kernel: [ 593.627075] SQUASHFS error: zlib
decompression failed, data probably corrupt
Nov 21 21:30:51 ubuntu kernel: [ 593.627079] SQUASHFS error:
squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x4df8ecfc

Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be
a useful bug report so I am closing it, as it appears to be a bad ISO or
faulty device (inc.` bad write-to-device). If you believe I'm in error,
please leave a comment explaining why and change the status back to
'New'. I suggest you verify your ISO download, and use the 'check disc
for defects' option to validate your media before install to ensure a
good download & write.

I am still reading this (although busy, hence the delay). I quite
strongly don't want to change the default but maybe we can make it
easier to disable than applying sed to the entire ISO (!). Probably the

[Bug 1853005] Re: Wifi randomly drops out

2019-11-21 Thread thedoctar
No. I tried it on a 4.13 kernel and the problem persists. Specifically,

1. I ping my router, everything is fine.
2. I download a large file from an ssh server at my uni. The speed is very
fast, 7.5 MB/s
3. After a few seconds, the internet drops out without any warning and I can no
longer ping my router. I didn't check journalctl unfortunately.

[Bug 1853030] Re: No connection through SSH over WIfi after kernel update

2019-11-21 Thread Hui Wang
When this problem happens, does the wifi network on rpi4 still work?
e.g. using ping command or other network commands other than ssh?

Another test is when problems happens, switch back to 1007 kernel (the
1007 kernel, initrd and dtb are in the folder of
/boot/firmware/$filename.bak, remove .bak, then you could boot with 1007
kernel), does the ssh work again?

[Bug 1853528] [NEW] Buggy energy management of Realtek ALC3266 audio card

2019-11-21 Thread Philippe
Public bug reported:

When powertop is actived, I have a unbearable whistling in 3.5mm jack
headphones.

When powertop is disabled, I have not problem with my 3.5mm jack
headphones.

Dell 9570 XPS 15 / Realtek ALC3266 audio card / Linux Mint 19.2 based on
Ubuntu 18.04 / same problems on Ubuntu 18.04 and Debian 10 Buster.

History of the problem :

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1841485

The current version of powertop is 2.11 :

https://01.org/powertop/

It would be advisable to migrate as quickly as possible to this version
for all Debian / Ubuntu systems. This driver is very important for good
system stability in energy saving mode. I hope you all do your best to
keep it up to date in the future.

If you need help for more details or tests feel free to send me an
e-mail.

I dare to hope for a quick/urgent fix from you.

Best regards.

Philippe

[Bug 1845801] Re: [nvidia] Automatic login fails and then all subsequent logins fail. Killing gnome-session-binary fixes it, or just not using automatic login.

2019-11-21 Thread Edgar Bonet
Having the exact same issue here:

 - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
 - NVIDIA Driver Version: 430.50

System utterly broken after upgrade from 19.04 (kernel panics), managed
to kind of repair it, then this infinite login loop. I could get out of
the loop by logging in another virtual console, then typing

sudo systemctl restart display-manager.service

Now I tried Valtteri Vainikka's workaround, and it worked wonderfully.
Thanks!

[Bug 1811504] Re: scan with Laserjet MFP-M28 fails

2019-11-21 Thread Fabian Leven
Hi,

this bug also affects me.

Printer: HP LaserJet MFP M28-M31
hplip-version: 3.19.11
Operating System: Linux Mint 19.2

I have similar/the same issues as the ones @t-moreau pointed out:

Using "Simple Scan", scanning in "Text" mode with 150 or 300 dpi works.
Higher dpi-settings do not work. Using "Photo" mode fails.

It was pointed out earlier, that a timeout might be causing the
troubles. This idea would be supported by the fact that scanning with a
higher resolution or in "Photo" mode takes longer.

Is someone still looking into this?

[Bug 1853519] [NEW] Bionic update: upstream stable patchset 2019-11-21

2019-11-21 Thread Kamal Mostafa
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:

   upstream stable patchset 2019-11-21

 Importance: Undecided
