[Bug 1756191] Re: Thumbnail sidebar shows error icons in place of some images.

2020-01-01 Thread Mi-La
Hi, I have new installation of Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS (xubuntu). It has
ristretto 0.8.2 and the bug still occurs there. It's nice to have fixed
the bug, but I don't understand why the LTS users should have work with
the buggy version until next LTS. Any plans to fix it in current LTS? Or
do I miss an easy way how to install ristretto 0.8.3 (the fixed version)
in my current system? Thanks.

[Bug 1858067] Re: package firefox 71.0+build5-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: package is in a very bad inconsistent state; you should reinstall it before attempting configuration

2020-01-01 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be
a bug report so I am marking it incomplete and suggesting you seek
support.

Processing triggers for man-db (2.7.5-1) ...
dpkg: error processing package firefox (--configure):
package is in a very bad inconsistent state; you should
 reinstall it before attempting configuration

In the description you mentioned "I found /var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend
was locked by dpkg when I was trying to install other app, then i killed
it" which is the most likely cause of this problem. The lock is there
to prevent another process from trying to install/remove/upgrade
software whilst a process is already writing to that system. You killed
this safety/protection system allowing corruption.

You can also find help with your problem in the support forum of your
local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at
https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support
options please look at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-
support/709

For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

If you believe I'm in error, or can detail how you ensured nothing in
fact was doing any updates explaining the lock, or have cleaned up the
mess created, and still have the problem, please return the status to
"New" leaving a comment.

[Bug 1858011] Re: Discover app bug, cant find some apps

2020-01-01 Thread Walter Lapchynski
I'll also add that there's no similar problem with Greek, so it's not
that it's non-English languages that are the problem. So far, it seems
that it is specifically Turkish.

Discover is not non-functional when using Turkish, but some apps don't
show up. Steam Installer can't be found, but Blender can.

[Bug 1858011] Re: Discover app bug, cant find some apps

2020-01-01 Thread Walter Lapchynski
I can confirm this by changing to Turkish language, logging out and back in,
and then opening Discover.

This is somehow related to AppStream but I'm a bit unclear how.

Running in terminal produces:
adding empty sources model QStandardItemModel(0x555778d00810)
Could not open the AppStream metadata pool "Unable to add data:
MDB_BAD_VALSIZE: Unsupported size of key/DB name/data, or wrong DUPFIXED size"

took really long to fetch KNSBackend(0x555778d05950, name =
"/usr/share/knsrcfiles/discover_ktexteditor_codesnippets_core.knsrc")

That AppStream error (MDB_BAD_VALSIZE) turns out to be an issue, again
specifically for Turkish, for elementaryOS' app store:
https://github.com/elementary/triage/issues/6

Also perhaps related, I also get an error "Please check your connectivity"
instead of the "Featured" content that seems related to AppStream:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=409220

FWIW the "Featured" content comes from here:
https://autoconfig.kde.org/discover/featured-5.9.json
And for grins I checked on appstream.ubuntu.com for all the ones that normally
show up (Inkscape and KDE SDK do not), all of them have a "Name" in "tr," so it
shouldn't be a translation issue.

If you look into the zsys-setup source you'll notice that there are two
possible configs that can be passed into sfdisk. One is chosen if there
is EFI detected and the other if not. My machine doesn't have EFI
enabled, but the disk is GPT, so it needs that configuration for the
drive. I believe, and I'm no drive expert, that you need to look for the
label type to make this determination.

For me the output of: sfdisk -d /dev/sda includes a "label: gpt" which I
believe can be used to determine which disk format config should be
used.

[Bug 1846090] Re: Asus UX580GD (GDX1505:00 27C6:01F1) Touchpad (LCD) screen support

2020-01-01 Thread Taha Soomro
My screenpad will work if I set to Intel graphics *only*. You may have
to restart. I have ASUS Zenbook 15 UX534FTC.

The other issue is that there's no way to change true brightness (ie not
just changing the color via xrandr) on the screenpad. Not sure if a bug
or just a lack of functionality in Ubuntu handling external HDMI
displays.

[Bug 1858058] Re: Received several error messages during update

2020-01-01 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Looking at the Apt logs, it could be a user (with `sudo` access) has
modified the /etc/default/grub and it needs correction. To me, support
seems appropriate.

/usr/sbin/grub-mkconfig: 34: /etc/default/grub: Syntax error: EOF in backquote
substitution
run-parts: /etc/kernel/postrm.d/zz-update-grub exited with return code 2

You could find help with your problem in the support forum of your local
Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at
https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support
options please look at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-

[Bug 1858048] Re: install errpr

2020-01-01 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

This package failure looks like it was caused by bad ISO download,
corrupted install media, or device failure. eg. look in the logs and
you'll see messages like these :-

Jan 1 23:30:05 ubuntu-studio kernel: [ 353.757611] SQUASHFS error: zlib
decompression failed, data probably corrupt
Jan 1 23:30:05 ubuntu-studio kernel: [ 353.757620] SQUASHFS error:
squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x25b627dc

Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be
a useful bug report so I am closing it, as it appears to be a bad ISO or
faulty device (inc. bad write-to-device). If you believe I'm in error,
please leave a comment explaining why and change the status back to
'New'. I suggest you verify your ISO download, and use the 'check disc
for defects' option to validate your media before install to ensure a
good download & write.

[Bug 1858051] [NEW] md5 auth is broken in sane-backend

2020-01-01 Thread James Ring
Public bug reported:

When attempting to use saned resources that are protected by md5, the
current version (1.0.27-3.2ubuntu3) fails. To reproduce:

$ sudo echo testuser:goodpass:test > /etc/sane.d/saned.users

This will tell saned to put a password on the 'test' resource.

Ensure that ~/.sane/pass contains:

testuser:goodpass:test
testuser:goodpass:net:localhost:test

This will cause sane clients to send the appropriate password.

Then:

$ scanimage -d net:localhost:test --accept-md5-only >  /tmp/foo
scanimage: open of device net:localhost:test failed: Access to resource has
been denied

This is not expected. sane-backend built at head does not exhibit the
problem.

The issue was caused upstream by
https://gitlab.com/earlephilhower/backends/commit/39ceeae616a2e1638c2760d4364adcaa210a413b
and was fixed by https://gitlab.com/sane-
project/backends/commit/74898c4330cc25521ddbf008aa18db75fc00af1b.

It would be nice to get a new release of sane-utils to fix this issue.
Thanks!

I've also opened this as spacy issue at

neversegfault even if the program supplied has issues?

2020-01-01 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1858040/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1858040] [NEW] Kubuntu 19.10 installer selects wrong disk for grub when installed to 2nd disk

2020-01-01 Thread Ralph Scharpf
Public bug reported:

The system has a HDD (sda) for data and a SSD (sdb) for system. In BIOS,
SSD is given as first disk but this is not recognized by kernel. The
system has a legacy BIOS, no EFI.

At the installation all the options have been activated (full
installation with updates and HW drivers). The installation was
requested to use entire SSD (sdb) without LVM.

When installation is finalizing, an error pops up that installation of
grub to /dev/sda failed. Installation was requested to be done to
/dev/sdb, so it is likely that some grub install parameter was wrong.

I unplugged SATA cable of HDD to let SSD be /dev/sda and installation
was successful.

[Bug 1858035] [NEW] Xorg freeze (Ubuntu 19.10 stuck on splash screen)

2020-01-01 Thread Faton Beqaj
Public bug reported:

Yesterday I had just installed Ubuntu 19.10 and after my third or fourth
reboot it would not start, it just got stuck on the splash screen. I
didn't know what to do, but I still had the USB from which I had
installed Ubuntu, so I plugged it in and booted up from the USB, and
then I pressed the shutdown button, and before it shut down Ubuntu asked
me to remove the installation media and press OK, I did, the laptop shut
down, and now I booted up my laptop as usual, not from the USB, and this
time it did not get stuck on the splash screen. So I left it at that,
but just now, I booted up my laptop, and again it got stuck again, and so
again I did the boot up from the USB, shut down, remove USB, and reboot
as usual from the laptops HDD. Now it works again. This problem seems to
happen on a random basis. I hope this helps to solve this problem.

Addendum to comment #16: Switching the "keyboard input method system" to
either "XIM" or "none" does NOT help on my system. Moving the focus
between several input fields sometimes restores the correct behaviour
and suddenly changes back to the faulty one, usually when pressing Alt
Gr after typing some characters.
