[Bug 1884943] Re: Bookmarks don't save

2020-06-25 Thread Chris Guiver
On starting the program, it appears
~/.local/share/qpdfview/qpdfview/database
is accessed as the file date/time stamp reflects this.

I then let it sit idle (~two mins, or clock minute has incremented
twice) before I start creating bookmarks, the timestamp doesn't alter
reflecting on program start

guiverc@d960-ubu2:/de2900/lubuntu_64$ file
~/.local/share/qpdfview/qpdfview/database
/home/guiverc/.local/share/qpdfview/qpdfview/database: SQLite 3.x database,
last written using SQLite version 3031001

(this is the file I'd expect to change with creation of bookmarks,
however it appears empty using sqlitebrowser to view detail within it -
no records. stat & `ls` were used to watch for changes on adding
bookmarks..)

[Bug 1884455] Re: pulseaudio creates /root/.config/pulse/ before zfs-mount.service can mount the /root dataset

2020-06-25 Thread Dumitru Sipos
That is a very good observation about not having to be on startup!!
After I disabled both vmware.service and virtualbox.service, I cleaned-up:
delete the '/root' and then make sure to mount it from the zfs dataset.

Then I shutdown the system yesterday evening (2020-06-25).
When I started the system this morning (2020-06-26): I saw that again the zfs
dataset could not be mounted because a '/root' already exists, this time with
an empty ".cache" folder in it.
So it seems you were right about the vwmware or virtualbox that they use
pulseaudio as root.

But that is not the real issue: problem is with the ".cache" folder
which is created at shutdown 'after' the zfs dataset is unmounted, just
like you said.

I'm not sure how to investigate what happens at shutdown, but I'll try
to find out.

Meanwhile it's clear this not a pulseaudio issue ==> this ticket should
be closed (I'm not sure if I can do that, or you or someone else needs
to do it).

Daniel, thank you very much for your quick and very helpful responses: I
appreciate it a lot!

[Bug 1884943] Re: Bookmarks don't save

2020-06-25 Thread Chris Guiver
I booted a Lubuntu 20.04 install on my hp.8200 and searched ubuntu.com
for a PDF and grabbed http://people.ubuntu.com/~lyz/xubuntu/xubuntu-
feltonlug.pdf viewing it in qpdfview.

I firstly made a bookmark on page 12 (Quality Assurance), it appears in
bookmarks list of available bookmarks. I exited program, re-entered and
no bookmarks exist. I repeated this three times with different pages &
each time same result.

I then repeated this on my primary (d960/groovy) box and had the same
occur

guiverc@d960-ubu2:/de2900/lubuntu_64$ apt-cache policy qpdfview

Note: 2:4.11.6+dfsg-0ubuntu1.2 indicates recent focal-updates but the
kernel clearly seems to be not a ubuntu one "5.6.12-sunxi64"

malloc(): unsorted double linked list corrupted

This is a copy and not a normal crash report.
I was trying to match it against [1].
There are a few around samba_dnsupdate, but none matches the signature of yours.
Never the less without a full core dump and a reliable way to reproduce it is
unlikely that a lot will happen (see the others on [1]

If you could report the crash [2] it would become part of this database
where same crashes are mapped together. If there are spikes of the same
kind it indicates that there might be a higher chance to trigger/debug
it.

[Bug 1885120] Re: package mysql-server-8.0 8.0.20-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: installed mysql-server-8.0 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2020-06-25 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

On upgrading a service this service has to be restarted to pick up the fixes.
Rather rarely a real issue occurs that the newer version does e.g. fail with
the formerly working configuration.
But most of the time what happens is, that a service was installed, but stays
unconfigured or experimented with but left in a broken state.

Now on any update of the related packages that service has to be restarted, but
since its config is incomplete/faulty it fails to restart.
Therefore the update of that package has to consider itself incomplete.

Depending on your particular case there are two solutions:
- either remove the offending package if you don't want to continue using it.
- Or if you do want to keep it please fix the configuration so that re-starting
the service will work.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete.

If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it
helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem
specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

Hi,
from your log:

2020-06-25T06:53:24.803948Z 0 [ERROR] [MY-011300] [Server] Plugin mysqlx
reported: 'Setup of socket: '/var/run/mysqld/mysqlx.sock' failed, another

2020-06-25T06:53:26.069046Z 0 [ERROR] [MY-010119] [Server] Aborting

I have seen such issues rarely to show up as flaky behavior, but in your
case it seems soemthing else really locks that file still.

You might have a look at running procsses and the last (on a re-install)
reported PID especially.
Do you have an out-of-archive mysql running in background and/or had a very
unclean application shutdown that might keep it open?

As trivial as it sounds - if unsure how to clean up a restart might help
as well here.

[Bug 1885087] Re: Can't keep brightness value after reboot/poweroff in some nvidia gfx

2020-06-25 Thread hugh chao
** Description changed:

systemd-backlight saves the brightness value right before
shutdown.target, however it doesn't work because the nvidia_0 backlight
sysfs disappears after GFX device is closed by Xorg, long before
  shutdown.target.

  [Impact]
System can not keep the brightness value, after reboot/poweroff the
brightness will still be highest.

  [Fix]
Suggested by Nvidia, we need to run nvidia-persistenced.service before
systemd-backlight@backlight:nvidia_0.service

  [Test Case]
Adjust the brightness value, reboot, the value must keep persistence during
boots.

-
  [Regression Risk]
Low, this fix is just adjust the systemd order more earier.

Thanks Harry,
to understand and group the rules better - if you'd have an attachment for
these "thousands of varied examples" from your log, please attach them.

Also if you happen to know that some of them only trigger with a
particular config that will be useful. If you can't relate apparmor-
denial <-> config, it would still at least be helpful to share more
details about the one config you used (you described it, but providing
config files would help).

Hi Yuri,
there was no recent change in regard to lvm handling in libvirt or lvm itself
that would obviously be related. Which Ubuntu release are you on - and between
which package versions did you upgrade?

[Bug 1882410] Re: GNOME Shell crashed with signal 5

2020-06-25 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Try this:

Settings > Privacy > Diagnostics > Send error reports to Canonical =
Automatic

then reproduce the crash and hopefully errors.ubuntu.com will show it.

Although I would hope that even with 'Manual' set you would find the
crash file in /var/crash ..?

[Bug 1882671] Re: unbalanced UEFI TPL manipulations in iPXE with DOWNLOAD_PROTO_HTTPS enabled

2020-06-25 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
I beg your pardon Lazlo, but one more question on CONFIG=qemu.
Since it was introduced config=QEMU was exported for efi and legacy roms.
But it seems for legacy roms like 82540em.rom CONFIG=qemu being set or not
doesn't make a difference.

I I just look at src/config/qemu/* vs src/config/ there is a massive
difference and I see it showing up in the build log, so the export has
"some" effect.

Grepping for qemu.*82540em I see

But at least on the output size of 82540em.rom I see no difference.
Hence my question - does CONFIG=qemu have no effect on the legacy roms?
If it has an effect what is the recommended config for them - setting it or not?
(Right now I have no more set CONFIG=qemu for legacy roms, but since it would
be a change I want to be sure it really is a no-op or at least what is
recommended).

[Bug 1875459] Re: System hangs when loading google maps on chrome with navi AMD GPU

2020-06-25 Thread You-Sheng Yang
Would it be possible for you to do a kernel bisection?

First, find the last good kernel (v5.6.5 in this case) and the first bad
kernel version from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ .
Then,

  $ sudo apt build-dep linux
  $ git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git
  $ cd linux
  $ git bisect start
$ git bisect good $(the good version you found)
$ git bisect bad $(the bad version found)
  $ make localmodconfig
  $ make -j$(nproc) deb-pkg LOCALVERSION=-bisect-$(git log -1
--pretty=format:%h)
  $ sudo dpkg -i ../linux-image-*.deb ../linux-headers-*.deb

After installing the newly built kernel, then reboot with it.

If the issue still happens,

  $ git bisect bad

Otherwise,

  $ git bisect good

Repeat to "make -j$(nproc) deb-pkg " until you find the commit that
causes the regression. Use `git bisect log` to dump bisect history.

Public bug reported:

[Bug 1878225] Re: snapd.seeded.service waits forever (?) to have snaps seeded in LXD on s390x and arm64

2020-06-25 Thread Stéphane Graber
AppArmor mount rules have had a lot of issues in the past (and still do)
depending on the version of kernel, the parser and the exact rule. If
you want an easy way out of this, setting `raw.apparmor=mount,` on your
container will almost certainly get such issues to disappear.

LXD 4.0 has a number of tweaks in the rules to workaround a bunch of those
issues.
It's a trick we can do on unprivileged containers as we don't rely on apparmor
for security there, for privileged containers, we don't get to do the same and
so our policy is quite a bit more strict.

Report from bug 1885239 mentioned additional nvidia module parameter
"nvidia_drm.modeset=1" may work-around this.

[Bug 1232873] Re: "could not back up files" dialog never shown; breaks scheduled backups

2020-06-25 Thread Michael Terry
--auto is how we launch the background backups.

I think this bug has been fixed in recent releases by a more concerted
effort to keep the progress windows on top of the rest of the interface.
But if folks can still reproduce using a recent Deja Dup (40+ I’d say),
please reopen and I can try to reproduce.

[Bug 1885240] Re: LED clock display jumbled on virtual console

In this vlcsnap, number 52 was rendered as having "gadzook" (which is
stroke that connects a ligature). Also number 7 had descender (which
extends below baseline of typograph).

[Bug 1885240] [NEW] LED clock display jumbled on virtual console

2020-06-25 Thread Bagas Sanjaya
Public bug reported:

Invoking `htop` from virtual console (such as from Ctrl-Alt-F3) cause
LED clock displayed as jumbled (that is the clock numbers does not
rendered correctly as expected). In this case the numbers could have
"ascender/descender" and "swash" strokes (as on typographic terms).

The bug does not occured when invoking `htop` from terminal emulators.

Re: [Bug 1882453] Re: [nvidia] GUI blanks after long period of use

2020-06-25 Thread Chris
Daniel,

The attached photo has memory utilization data on the Nivida GPU on
typical use. I'll try to figure out how to force the problem on demand.
I believe its related to an application I'm using, however the problem
has not returned and I've updated the driver a few times already.

Thanks Daniel,

Chris Morales

[Bug 1885239] [NEW] Freeze after upgrading 18.04 LTS to 20.04 LTS with NVIDIA's driver.

2020-06-25 Thread Janne Heikkinen
Public bug reported:

After upgrading 18.04 LTS to 20.04 LTS X started to freeze at the login
when using NVIDIA's driver 440.82 or 440.100.

When investigating log files, the following was found in Xorg.0.log:

"(EE) NVIDIA(GPU-0): Failed to acquire modesetting permission."

To prevent the freeze, adding kernel command line parameter
"nvidia_drm.modeset=1" was required.

Nouveau driver had already been blacklisted, as it has never been stable on the
computer in question.

[Bug 1874567] Re: [nvidia] Rotating secondary monitor to portrait fails, results in landscape

2020-06-25 Thread ADFH
I also logged https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-
drivers-340/+bug/1876551 about nvidia-340 drivers having the same
problem (won't remember the config).

My workaround is a .desktop file that calls xrandr with my desired
parameters I configured with nvidia tool and then dumped out with
xrandr.

[Bug 1884754] Re: Fractional scaling not persisted in VMware Player

2020-06-25 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for pointing that out. That sounds relevant to bug 1885026 and
this one...

In the case of this bug it explains why the fractional scaling value is
not persisted -- because the virtual monitor resolution has changed.
Mutter considers that a different display configuration and so won't
keep any old settings from it. You can see this as a separate block in
your ~/.config/monitors.xml

** Changed in: mutter (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: mutter (Ubuntu)
