[Bug 1351267] Re: partman-auto prefers to give disk to swap, leaving root too small

2020-08-24 Thread Victor Sergienko
They didn't even have to choose desktops vs high-memory servers, just
make a better algorithm that takes into account both RAM size and disk
size.

2020-08-24 Thread Cody Ferber
Fair enough, but it literally says right above the check box.

Use proposed updates if you're willing to report bugs on any problems
that occur.

So something is wrong at least in terms of when you do move it into the
main repo.

But you also might want to remove that text if you don't want people to
use it and report bugs. :x

[Bug 1892422] Re: Pci passthrough interface not showing up in Ubuntu 20.04 but does show in 18.04

2020-08-24 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Neil,
thanks for the report.

I haven't seen/heard about this particular issue yet, maybe it is related to
the specific intel model and/or firmware version - so if you could derive that
from the host and let us know that might be helpful (if someone can find a
similar model to cross verify then).
That applies to both cases below.

It is not entirely clear from your report if:
A) you have kept the host the same (if so please report what you used) and only
switched the guest.
B) you have used the same host in both cases and ONLY switched the guest
between 18.04/20.04 ?

Since your kernel versions have the -kvm suffix (A) is more likely, but
let me guide you to the next steps for both.

See above why it's not fixed. It's b/c xnox doesn't want to accept that
his fix for #1351267 was less than ideal, so he labelled the problem
"opinion".

[Bug 1892422] Re: Pci passthrough interface not showing up in Ubuntu 20.04 but does show in 18.04

2020-08-24 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
--- A - Host stayed, Guest changed ---

If that is the case then we can mostly ignore the Host.
Never the less knowing the details what is used in the host is helpful.

As mentioned per your uname I assume you have `linux-kvm` used in the guest.
That is meant as a reduced kernel for virtual environments.

Chances now are high that:
1. the required intel module is no more built for this -kvm kernel
2. the required intel module is built but moved from the base to the extra
modules

In general please check (and report here) on both guests
- lsmod (will show us if a module is missing on the guest without net)
- lspci -v (will show us which driver is used - if any - on the passed through
intel card.

After we have above data, please try to install the kernel that isn't reduced.
Should be:
$ apt install linux-image-generic
$ apt remove linux-image-kvm
$ reboot

Did the situation now resolve?
Does the listing of lsmod and lspci now report an additional driver loaded
compared to before?

2020-08-24 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
--- B - Host changed, Guest stayed ---

In this case I think the biggest moving pieces are:
1. Host Kernel
2. Host qemu
3. Host libvirt (to a much smaller extend)

We can do some A/B tests to sort things out.
#1 install linux-generic-hwe-18.04 which will bring a 5.4 kernel to Bionic
#2,#3 install new qemu/libvirt in Bionic via `sudo add-apt-repository
cloud-archive:ussuri`

That should end up in a matrix like
  kernel-old kernel-new
qemu-old ? ?
qemu-new ? ?

Would be useful to know these.

[Bug 1873809] Re: Make linux-kvm bootable in LXD VMs

2020-08-24 Thread Stéphane Graber
We weren't planning to as the previous releases (xenial and bionic) did
not have "-kvm" image and their default image includes an initrd making
them boot just fine under LXD.

So it's really just groovy+focal that we need before we can start using those
images.
focal has been taken care of so we're just waiting for linux-kvm to hit the
release pocket on groovy before we can switch over to those.

bluetooth has multiple connectivity issues which sometimes can only be resolved
by unpairing and then pairing again.
Microphones randomly stop working until changing the active microphone multiple
times. Today my mic stopped working 3 times.
Sometimes cannot switch bluetooth headset profiles. Or it says that it switched
it but when you click on a different tab and go back, it reverts to the old
setting.

I see some warnings/errors in the logs that could be related:
gsd-media-keys[2948]: Unable to get default sink
gsd-media-keys[2948]: Unable to get default source

kernel: Bluetooth: hci0: SCO packet for unknown connection handle 65

pulseaudio[2489]: q overrun, queuing locally

please see the attached log.

I do not recommend that as a solution. The open source 'nouveau' driver

[Bug 1832859]

2020-08-24 Thread prajnoha
Based on the report here, this affects only setups with custom
services/systemd units. Also, the blk-availability/blkdeactivate has
been in RHEL7 since 7.0 and this seems to be the only report we have
received so far (therefore, I don't expect much users to be affected by
this issue).

Also, I think it's less risk adding the extra dependency as already
described here https://access.redhat.com/solutions/4154611 than
splitting the blk-availability / blkdeactivate into (at least) two parts
running at different times. Also, if we did this, we'd need to introduce
a new synchronization point (like a systemd target) that other services
would need to depend on (and so it would require much more changes in
various other components which involves risks).

In future, we'll try to cover this shutdown scenario in a more proper
way with new Storage Instantiation Daemon (SID).

Hello,

I was able to get the touchpad working on my Lenovo Ideapad 3 15iil05 to

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT.

"i8042.nopnp=1 pci=nocrs"

I'm curious as to what this does that makes it work, but I can report

finger gestures work just fine).

Hopefully this helps someone.

I only do packaging for Debian and don't really know how Ubuntu works.
Maybe you should consult Ubuntu guys for backporting.

[Bug 1857385] Re: xHCI host controller not responding, assume dead via USB-C docking station

I have the same issue with my Cable Matters USB-C dual 4k DisplayPort

In my experience, it does not occur on every disconnect, however each
time it does occur, it appears to be preceded by a kernel oops:

[Bug 1884583] Re: vim is dependent on libcanberra0 in Ubuntu 20.04, had no such dependency in Ubuntu 18.04

2020-08-24 Thread Scott Mcdermott
Upstream says they will not remove the sound library and its indirect
freedesktop theme (35 sound files) dependencies because it's not a big
deal, and it's not X so technically it's still 'nox'. I don't think
this is sane for a package installed on many servers to start bringing
in desktop requirements, but the maintainer is firm.

I'm hoping Ubuntu will consider overriding Debian and adding --disable-
canberra to their vim-nox build.

[Bug 1776622] Re: snapd updates on focal never finish installing. Can't install any other updates.

2020-08-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This is a focal bug already.

** Description changed:

snapd (2.33+18.10ubuntu3) cosmic never finishes installing. Can't
  install any other updates.

The first time I gave up waiting and killed it. Then...

  $ sudo apt full-upgrade
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to
correct the problem.

  $ sudo dpkg --configure -a
  Setting up snapd (2.33+18.10ubuntu3) ...
snapd.snap-repair.service is a disabled or a static unit, not starting it.

  << never ends >>

All the while the snap and snapd process use about 0.3% CPU (which is
  more than usual).

  WORKAROUND:

[Bug 1798166] Re: “Mouse battery low” notification can't be disabled

2020-08-24 Thread Dan
N, please don't mark this as invalid. This is the most annoying
notification on my wonderful Gnome desktop. It is so premature. First
off, it thinks my MX Logitech keyboard is a mouse and secondly, it
displays over and over long before the keyboard needs to be charged.

I use this keyboard with 2 other operating systems and none of them have
this issue.

[Bug 1888107] Re: in show applications doesn't scroll down

2020-08-24 Thread David Wang
I have exactly the same issue with dual screen setup on my two notebooks. One
is Thinkpad X250 with 5.4 kernel, the other is HP Zhan66(AMD Renoir 4700U) with
5.7 kernel. Exactly the same symptom:
- Single screen no problem;
- dual screen: when open the "show applications" button on the bottom left
corner, and the applications screen shows up, up/down scrolling does not work.

This is a really annoying bug. Please help solve it. Thanks!

David

They are different code bases.

Please keep comments here about Xorg and if you see problems with

[Bug 1867815] Re: Add vid:pid of TP-Link Archer T4Uv2

2020-08-24 Thread Peter Parkes
My T4UH (rtl8812au) and a dlink DWA-182 (reported as rtl8812au) do not work
with this driver.
The T4UH worked under kernel 3 (and possibly 4 ?) but is now not working. It is
recognized but no wlan interface is created. This occurs on two different
computers, both running Ubuntu 20.04.1 kernel 5.4.0-42-generic.
I notice that this bug report is now a number of months old ...is it likely to
be addressed this year?
Other drivers for this device (which worked previously) appear to build
correctly but now do not work with kernel version 5 (same problem as above).
Do you know of a 5.x kernel under which this module will load correctly?
Is there anything I can do to get this working under kernel 5.x?
Thank you. My apologies if I'm coming across as terse or impolite. I'm just a
little frustrated.

[Bug 1888916] Re: after the upgrade completes reattaching to the screen session can restore your sources.list file

2020-08-24 Thread Brian Murray
Actually, just choosing to resurrect the screen window will restart the
upgrade process which then will warn you about an upgrade not succeeding
and then if you exit that sources.list.distUpgrade will be restored.

I tried messing with screenrc and adding "onerror" to zombie
(https://www.gnu.org/software/screen/manual/html_node/Zombie.html) but
that did not help.

[Bug 1892798] [NEW] eliminating resolvconf/openresolv dependencies

2020-08-24 Thread Gleep Glorp
Public bug reported:

By default Ubuntu now uses systemd to manage the nameservers in
resolv.conf, so resolvconf and openresolv seem to be redundant. However,
it appears that systemd's resolvectl is compatable with resolvconf style
commands if symlinked as resolvconf.

I'm not really sure how deb packaging works, but if it possible to check
for the resolvconf command, and if not found just symlink
/usr/bin/resolvectl to /usr/sbin/resolvconf then wg-quick will work
without additional packages.

See
https://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/focal/man1/resolvectl.1#compatibility%20with%20resolvconf(8)
for more info.

Apologies if there is a better place to direct this info.

Take a look at this patch [1]. Use the CORB command recording to write a
similar patch. It will contain a 2034-entry long array of hda_verb
structs [2]. Each hda_verb contains

{Node ID, Verb ID, Payload}

Apply your patch, compile, and run.

[Bug 1892797] [NEW] sbkeysync fails to return non-zero on error

2020-08-24 Thread dann frazier
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
sbkeysync may exit with exitcode 0 even if it failed to update keys. The
secureboot-db service will report no error in this case. This can lead a user
to believe they have protected themselves against known insecure bootloaders
when they have not.

An example of when this can happen - and where I noticed it - is if you
have a system w/ limited variable store space and you try to import a
new DBX update file. This is the case today if you pull in the latest
DBX for boothole on an OVMF VM w/ a 2M NV variable store (we've since
added 4M images - see bug 1885662).

[Test Case]
Boot a secureboot VM, e.g.:
cloud-localds seed.img user-data.yaml
virt-install --name test \
 --boot
loader=/usr/share/OVMF/OVMF_CODE.secboot.fd,loader_ro=yes,loader_type=pflash \
 --import \
 --disk path=focal-server-cloudimg-amd64.img \
 --disk path=seed.img \
 --ram 1024 --feature smm=on --vcpus 1 --os-type linux \
 --os-variant ubuntu18.04 --graphics none \
 --console pty,target_type=serial --network network:default

[Bug 1892782] Re: linuxfx settings shows error when double clicking an icon

2020-08-24 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1892782/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you

[Bug 1892617] Re: xubuntu groovy - ubiquity appears stuck formatting partition

2020-08-24 Thread Chris Guiver
I wrote another update for this last night, but I must have closed
browser before hitting POST sorry.

I needed a Lubuntu 18.04 for support; so used that partition (sda5 on d755-8)
to install to, and the Lubuntu 18.04.5 hung too (2+ hours).
Looking, it looked identical (message wise in journalctl & dmesg)

I rebooted, ran `badblocks` across sda1 & sda5 without issues.
erased sda5 & created a new sda5 using `gparted` (no issues)

Tried again to install Lubuntu 18.04.5 (amd64, last daily/RC) iso and it
hung for ~two hours.

I don't know how to query iso.qa.ubuntu.com to scan for all my d755-8
install alongside, replace partition, manual partitioning for more
detail, but that box is used heaps for QA-testing.

[Bug 1875528] Re: Extra frozen / stuck mouse cursor after auto screen lock / sleep

2020-08-24 Thread Bob Bobbart
I am also having this issue on a brand new laptop (Ryzen 5 4500),
however the dead mouse pointer is there from a fresh reboot. It is left
over from the login screen and remains there once the system has logged
in. If I logout, the 'dead' mouse becomes the only one on the login
screen, yet loging back in causes it to freeze while a second pointer
becomes active.

Very strange behaviour!

[Bug 1892792] [NEW] Causes grub-install to segfault

By backing patches out, I found that it was caused by
debian/patches/remove-arrows.patch. In a few places, like in parse_acpi_root(),
that patch dropped the initialization of the pos variable.

This upstream patch fixes it:
https://github.com/rhboot/efivar/commit/5dc12cc56c79d293cf68d12a0b84373a785745e7

Note that we also carried that patch in 37-2ubuntu4. However, the
segfault only seems to occur when compiled with GCC 10, which happened
first w/ 37-4ubuntu1.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

2020-08-21T06:01:50.456351Z 0 [ERROR] InnoDB: Cannot continue operation.

This is an I/O error and it can be an indication that your filesystem is
corrupted. Checking the dmesg logs you can also find a bunch of failures
while trying to read some memory spaces, which makes me believe you have
an issue with your hard drive.

Since this seems to be a hardware problem I am marking this bug as
Invalid. If you do not agree please add more information and change the
status back to New, and we will revisit this bug.

[Bug 1892788] [NEW] launches yagv when opening FOLDER

2020-08-24 Thread whitis
Public bug reported:

Critical bug. file-roller will make the system user interface sieze up
and cause you to lose work.

- Ubuntu 18.04
- install firefox and yagv
- In firefox, download and select open with archive manager
https://www.chepclub.com/uploads/9/2/9/8/9298268/chepbedlevel_3.0.zip
- In file roller, click on the folder ChepBedLevel2.0
- It will not browse the folder
- Double click on the folder.
- Instead of browsing the folder, It will launch yagv on the g-code files. It
might also launch the text editor (gedit?) on the STL file.
- the system doesn't hang every time but it does occur multiple times.
- ssh in remotely and killall file-roller to get control of your machine back.

file-roller is very unresponsive, even with the machine working ok.

Same thing happens with a 3D model with no g-code downloaded from thingiverse
containing no g-code.
www.thingiverse.com/thing:2867275
In this case, it tries to open the huge STL file with a text editor. In this
case, I noticed that trying to type in a terminal window caused the text editor
search box to appear.

The hangs might be occuring in gedit and/or yagv (never seen that
before) but gedit was launched without consent.

This seems to be exciting an existing bug in the system. It not uncommon
for certain programs dialog boxes to sieze control of the the mouse
pointer and make the machine unusable. I had more trouble than usual
recovering, however. Ctrl-Alt-Del and cancel did not work and
switching consoles didn't work. I have disabled a few dialog boxes that
cause this problem, like the an application is unresponsive, do you want
me to make the entire system unresponsive? dialog box.

[Bug 1851518] Re: [950SBE/951SBE, Realtek ALC298, Speaker, Internal] No sound on internal speakers, very very quiet on headphones

2020-08-24 Thread John Hoff
@gannon1

I am tracking what your saying concept wise. Here is a summary of what
I did today, in part just to help me clarify my thoughts and in part so
you can maybe correct any gaps and save me troubleshooting time :).

- I have gone through all the documents in the wiki for QemuHDADump and
as far as I can tell it is running as expected on my PC and creating
good logs. I am able to see the logging happening in real-time and I
get the frame binary files. I am also able to use his extract and
format programs to "see" the data as text. As an example, the attached
file named CORB has the final formatted output from disabling and re-
enabling the realtek device in windows

- Looking at the HDA spec, this seems to be the only detailed
description of the CORB entries :

HDA Spec CORB 32 bit format
The controller generated (outbound) Verb format
 Bits 31:28 Codec Address
 Bits 27:20 Node ID
 Bits 19:0 Verb Payload

It is not currently clear to me how to parse the "verb payload" or how to
map
these CORB values into anything useful.

- Several of the documents you listed and your comments mention playing
back or using the values to turn on the sound. I assume (maybe
incorrectly), that we are trying to a) produce a list of HDA Verb
commands that match each CORB entry to prove the sound turns on and then
B) work to whittle down the list to the minimum required ones. Part B
will be effort, but I think that will just be applied time once we
achieve Part A. For Part A, again my assumption, we are trying to
convert CORB values into the HDA Verb format :

HDA Verb format
 The hwdep device name
 The widget NID
 The verb
 The parameter

- Since I was stuck on what to do with the output from QemuHDADump, I
went back and read the other articles more, specifically the BSD
article. That author took a different approach and instead of using the
QemuHDADump program, he just altered Qemu to give him more info in the
output. His source code was available so I worked with that to try and
replicate his results. I couldn't just use his common.c file directly
because we are on different version of qemu, but I was able to modify
the common.c file on my version of qemu, and then remake qemu
successfully. So now, instead of just getting lines like this :

15469@1598294292.270884:vfio_region_write (:00:1f.3:region0+0x48, 0xad, 2)

15469@1598294292.270983:vfio_region_write (:00:1f.3:region0+0x5d, 0x1, 1)

I get more information, like this :

I think the most useful parts here are the CORB[] lines (for example) :

CORB[218] = 0x9cac8480 (caddr:0x9 nid:0x4a control:0xc84 param:0x80)

This would at least seem like it could be mapped to an HDA verbs, maybe
like so

sudo hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x4a 0xc84 0x80

- So with that change, I then recorded all the traffic during a re-
enable of the realtek devices in windows (I will attach files named
Enable and Disable). I then wrote a script to pull out the CORB[x]
lines from the log and to produce a new script with all the mapped HDA
Verbs. This generated 2034 HDA Verb commands (just on the re-enable of
the windows realtek device... yikes... )

- Anyway, I ran the script of 2034 HDA Verb commands on my PC. No
errors, but unfortunately no sounds came out of the speakers. Very
likely I just mapped the values to my HDA verbs incorrectly, I am just
guessing on how to do that, or possibly the specific action we need does
not happen on a re-enable.

Anyway, thoughts? Do you have any more clarity on how to replay the
CORB commands? I can try this all again with a suspend and resume, but
suspect that will be a lot of CORB values

[Bug 1891842] Re: ruby-bunny: FTBFS due to faulty testcase

2020-08-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package ruby-bunny - 2.14.4-4

---
ruby-bunny (2.14.4-4) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Team upload.

  [ Lucas Kanashiro ]
  * d/ruby-tests.rake: add a reminder to revisit the blacklisted spec file
  * d/control: update the Homepage url, the former does not work

  [ Sergio Durigan Junior ]
  * Adjust test infrastructure to use a customized rabbitmq-server.
In order to perform our tests, we have to install the rabbitmq-server
package. This means that when we build the package outside a chroot,
the systemd service of rabbitmq-server is started automatically. This
is expected behaviour, but it conflicts with what the setup step of
our tests does: it tries to start its own instance of rabbitmq-server
using a customized configuration file.
In order to overcome this problem, it is possible to start another
instance of rabbitmq-server listening at a different port. This is
what this commit does, which ultimately fixes a FTBFS that happens
when building ruby-bunny outside a chroot. Unfortunately, the
solution here is a bit hacky and prone to failures, but it works
reasonably well enough that I think it's safe to adopt it into
package.
- d/ruby-tests.rake: Use Socket.gethostname to compose the pidfile
  name.
- d/rules: On override_dh_auto_install, adjust the local rabbitmq.conf
file and instruct it to listen on localhost:16688; adjust several
environment variables needed to properly start rabbitmq-server and
ruby-bunny at the customized port; adjust the tests inside spec/ and
make sure they explicitly connect to the rabbitmq-server instance
running on the customized port. (Closes: #968420) (LP: #1891842)

[Bug 1890611] Re: Client cannot connect to remote mysql-server when the latter is configured with ssl parameters using a public CA

2020-08-24 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
Hi Jean-Christophe,

Sorry for this back and forth, I tried again to reproduce what you
mentioned but with a self-signed CA (like Rafael did in the first
comment) and it worked like a charm. Before you saying this is not the
same scenario you are facing, as far as I can see you are reporting a
problem when setting the ssl parameters (if the logs are saying "CA
certificate ca.pem is self signed" is because it is likely not reading
the files from your Let's Encrypt directory). In this case it does not
matter if it's a private or public CA. If you can confirm it is reading
your Let's Encrypt files and it is reporting that the certificate is
self signed share the logs and config files here and it will likely be
an upstream issue.

You might be tired of us asking for reproduction steps but there is no
way around that, we can't reproduce your problem. Try to add as much
details as you can, for instance, create a new container/VM of Ubutu
Focal/Groovy, install mysql-server, run command X, edit these files
adding these content, restart mysql service and so on.

I am marking this bug again as Incomplete, when you have more input for
us please change the status back to New.

[Bug 1631514] Re: snap doesnt work. error: cannot communicate with server

2020-08-24 Thread Claudio Matsuoka
This is a collection of bug reports and it seems that at least some of
them are already solved either by manually enabling services or using
newer versions of snapd. Are any of these issues still happening?
