[Bug 1918880] Re: pulseaudio threaded-ml suspend issue

2021-03-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please check that you haven't enabled:

  realtime-scheduling = yes

in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf. And if the problem continues to occur after
that then please report it to the developers at:

  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/-/issues

and tell us the new issue ID.

[Bug 1918738] Re: Regression: Onscreen Keyboard Backspace, Enter and Capitalize do not work

2021-03-11 Thread Esokrates
Thanks Daniel, great work as always! Confirmed that downgrading to gjs
1.67.2-1 and libgjs0g 1.67.2-1 solves the problem.

[Bug 1918884] [NEW] .zfs snapshot directory is not accessible when snapdir=visible

2021-03-11 Thread Martin Calko
Public bug reported:

lsb_release -a
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS
Release:20.04
Codename: focal
___
dpkg -l | grep zfs
ii zfs-fuse 0.7.0-20
amd64ZFS on FUSE
___
zfs get snapdir pool1/postgresql
NAME PROPERTY VALUESOURCE
pool1/postgresql snapdir visible inherited from pool1
___
ls -la /var/lib/postgresql/
total 30
drwxr-xr-x 3 postgres postgres5 Mar 10 15:32 .
drwxr-xr-x 46 root root 4096 Mar 11 14:03 ..
drwxr-xr-x 3 postgres postgres3 Mar 10 15:29 12
-rw--- 1 postgres postgres5 Mar 10 15:32 .bash_history
-rw--- 1 postgres postgres 29 Mar 10 15:32 .psql_history
___
cd /var/lib/postgresql/.zfs/
-bash: cd: /var/lib/postgresql/.zfs/: No such file or directory
___

Situation is repeatable in other datasets, regardless of "snapdir"
property value.

In Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS with zfsutils-linux 0.7.5-1ubuntu16.9 it did work.

[Bug 1918880] [NEW] pulseaudio threaded-ml suspend issue

2021-03-11 Thread kailoran
Public bug reported:

My laptop failed to suspend overnight and was unresponsive when I opened
it back up. This is on Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS with kernel 5.6.0-1048-oem and
pulseaudio:amd64/focal-updates 1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.10 uptodate. In
syslog, I found a stream of suspend attempts with pulseaudio-related
issues repeating in a 40s cycle, so reporting this as a PA issue.

I have an issue that I suspect is caused by a recent glibc change, but I
haven't 100% ruled out another cause, so this report might be bogus.

I use PHP-FPM [1] with chroots enabled. Since upgrading glibc, name
resolving (via DNS) fails with "getaddrinfo failed: System error" in my
chroot and I'm pretty sure it is caused by the recently added "Block
attempts to dlopen any module we haven't already opened" [2]

What seems to happen is that the PHP-FPM master process only loads
libnss_files.so.2 and libnss_systemd.so.2 because it uses that to
resolve the username (it matches nsswitch which contains: "passwd: files
systemd")

If any of the FPM workers then attempts to perform dns resolving, that
fails because libnss_dns.so.2 has not been loaded yet (even though I
made it available in the chroot), and due to the recent change, it won't
be loaded either.

I have confirmed I can "fix" it by forcing the fpm master to load the
dns module by modifying nsswitch.conf outside of the chroot to contains
"passwd: dns files systemd", this fixes it

Can you link to more context on what security regressions this change
was meant to address? chrooted servers have been running for decades
using the NSS databases of the chroot jail, and this change breaks all
of them.

That issue is of no concern once the service is running, it applies to

[Bug 1915515] Re: "toram" loads the entire media, not just filesystem.squashfs

2021-03-11 Thread Dark Penguin
Oooh, I never thought about this use case!.. I thought it's just for
convenience: you can get an ultra-fast system instead of really slow
USB, and you don't have to worry about accidentally mixing up the drives
and nuking your flash.

My current use case is: make a multi-boot USB as a sysadmin tool for
rescue, bug testing and distro testing. Removing the flash after boot is
convenient if I work on several computers at the same time, and things
being really fast helps too. Reducing the memory requirements would
help, and removing the need to repack filesystem.squashfs into an ISO
would help greatly.

I would suggest having "toram" keep the existing functionality, but
adding "toram=filesystem.squashfs" that acts the same way as in Debian
(loads only the specified file). However, this would probably be a
significant pain to implement, for a moderate benefit in a pretty exotic
use case. Unless more people want it for whatever they are doing.

[Bug 1918858] Re: change qterminal window size & pastes of URL are incomplete

2021-03-11 Thread Chris Guiver
** Description changed:

  ** Background (long-winded)

My primary box (that I use for almost everything).
  - dell [optiplex] 960 (c2q-q9400, 8gb, amd/ati cedar radeon hd
5000/6000/7350/8350)

On Tuesday morning I ran UWN scripts that generated certain files that
  get posted to various sites.

  Pasting from my `qterminal` window

  guiverc@d960-ubu2:~/uwn$ cat issues/673/microblog.txt ; mousepad
issues/673/fridge.post
Issue 673 of the Ubuntu Weekly Newsletter is here! Covering the week of
February 28 - March 6, 2021 https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuWewsletter/Issue673

  ** Actual results

I tried to right-click the qterminal window and copy the URL, but it's
  no longer complete!

important bit is the URL has now had
"UbuntuWewsletter" shrunk from what it was, ie. instead of
"UbuntuWeeklyNewsletter"

meaning some of my pastes (mewe which was done late) were wrong! That
  was days ago now

  If I do it again

The 'cut' appears to be where the right-size of the window is.. likely
because I've re-sized the window between Tuesday morning & Now (Friday
  arvo).

  ** Expected result

I'd expect a RIGHT-CLICK and COPY.LINK.ADDRESS to get the full URL even
  if I've re-size the window.

I can work around this; I keep a tab open just for UWN; I won't do that
in future (so I'm not tempted to just COPY-LINK-ADDRESS without reading
  it)

I just noticed this, and haven't explored it yet.

  ** Suspected cause

I suspect it's related to me re-sizing the window, which there is a very
good chance I've done that between tuesday morning & now, as I don't
  consider consequences of that..

  I just re-sized that window and right-click COPY.LINK.ADDRESS again
  (same URL) and now it's

  "https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Ubuntwsletter/Issue673;

  ie. "Ubuntwsletter" instead of "UbuntuWeeklyNewsletter"

Shrink window again and COPY.LINK.ADDRESS is

resizing the window (smaller) and the COPY.LINK.ADDRESS becomes invalid

[Bug 1918862] [NEW] sudo-dbgsym_1.8.21p2-3ubuntu1.2_amd64.ddeb is missing from http://ddebs.ubuntu.com/pool/main/s/sudo/

2021-03-11 Thread fidgetingbits
Public bug reported:

on ubuntu 18.04 while debugging a sudo_1.8.21p2-3ubuntu1.2 problem it
was found that sudo-dbgsym_1.8.21p2-3ubuntu1.2_amd64.ddeb is missing
from http://ddebs.ubuntu.com/pool/main/s/sudo/

the only (easy to find) place that seems to have a copy of this ddeb is
http://repo.nova.cu/nova/pool/extendido/s/sudo/

it would be nice if this was provided by the official ubuntu ddeb source

i'm aware 1.8.21p2-3ubuntu1.2 is not the latest available version and I
am specifically interested in debugging this exact version

thank you!

[Bug 1918858] Re: change qterminal window size & pastes of URL are incomplete

2021-03-11 Thread Chris Guiver
qterminal window which I right-click & COPY-LINK-ADDRESS from

the 'perl publish-uwn.pl 673' & first `cat issues/673..` was executed my
local Tuesday morning.

I usually leave `htop` running in the tab, why it appears a number of
times

finally the `cat issues/673/..` to view the same detail again today..
note the line appears longer on the just executed `cat` HOWEVER that
file was generated by the `perl publish-uwn` script & I've not run it
again elsewhere..

[Bug 1918666] Re: Cannot close the modal "Connect to Wifi" window to return to desktop

2021-03-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Since these bugs are going to keep occuring in different places, and the
eventual fixes for gnome-shell for each will be different, I have
separated out bug 1918738 again.

The short term fix for hirsute should still be https://salsa.debian.org

** Summary changed:

- Shell regressions in gjs 1.67.2-2 starting with "JS ERROR: Error: Argument

Also the offending change in gjs 1.67.2-2 is a feature, not a bug fix.
So it probably shouldn't have happened at all after feature freeze.

[Bug 1918733] Re: file integrity check provides no feedback to the user

2021-03-11 Thread Chris Guiver
I ran a Ubuntu hirsute (Desktop) test yesterday (I think) and just had a
rotating loopy thing in the centre of the screen for a long while, no
indication as to what the system was doing (I suspected media
validation), so this isn't just impacting Lubuntu, but Ubuntu itself I
suspect.

I only noted what I saw on iso.qa.ubuntu.com
(install worked; but no squashfs errors were present as I `dmesg |grep
squashfs` out of habit in testing)

[Bug 1918666] Re: Shell regressions in gjs 1.67.2-2 starting with "JS ERROR: Error: Argument : value is out of range for uint32"

2021-03-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The same change also landed in gjs upstream an hour ago:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gjs/-/merge_requests/583

For hirsute however we should probably revert it. Because we're going to
keep finding places in gnome-shell that now fail with the error checking
for some time to come. And while that happens, random parts of the shell
will break. So the new error checking is not something we should
introduce right now at the end of the cycle.

[Bug 1918586] Re: File system becomes read only during upgrade

2021-03-11 Thread Ben Ganley
I'm not able to access these machines physically as I'm getting remote
hands to do it as they are in different countries. I'm unlikely going to
be able to get you enough information to investigate this issue.

I'm having the devices wiped and reinstalled.

Sorry about that.

[Bug 1918855] Re: Xorg xserver got signal 6 to abort

2021-03-11 Thread Kai-Chuan Hsieh
I follow the upstream bug to install obiaf ppa's mesa lib and run the
test for two times, then I can get pass successfully for both run. I
plan to run the test three times to make sure the edge mesa lib can
really solve the problem, because the issue seems happens randomly.

[Bug 1918739] Re: Gnome-shell got stuck and produces a plethora of error log messages to syslog file

2021-03-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1908429 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1908429

Thanks for the bug report.

Since most bugs are caused by third party extensions, removing them from
the equation is the first thing to try. Please uninstall or disable (via
the Extensions app):

  'compiz-alike-windows-eff...@hermes83.github.com'

If the problem still happens after that then it would seem to be a
duplicate of bug 1908429. I will mark it as such now.

** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1908429
gnome-shell fills syslog: Attempting to run a JS callback during garbage
collection. This is most likely caused by destroying a Clutter actor or GTK
widget with ::destroy signal connected, or using the destroy(), dispose(), or
remove() vfuncs. Because it would crash the application, it has been blocked.
The offending callback was SourceFunc().

[Bug 1918427] Re: curtin: install flash-kernel in arm64 UEFI unexpected

2021-03-11 Thread Date Huang
Hi Dann

I'm not sure how to test custom kernel with Curtin during installation.
I will try to install it into non-flash-kernel system and see APT will install
it or not.

As your advice, I have a question about this.
If this question isn't critical, I think this should work.
Do we need to consider about someone who will want to use EFI-STUB to boot
directly?
If so, maybe we shouldn't add grub-efi-arm64 to recommends?
Because it will install unnecessary package for them.

grub-efi-* will be installed in `install_missing_packages` stage before
`install_kernel`.
So flash-kernel will not be installed if grub-efi-* is installed and in
recommends of kernel.

[Bug 1918557] Re: Desktop environment crashes when working in Intellij IDEA

2021-03-11 Thread Ivan Senin
WORKAROUND:

Just patch your libunityshell.so (for me, located at
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/compiz/libunityshell.so).
Among symbols of this library find ComputeShapedShadowQuad and change its first
instruction into "ret" using a reverse engineering hex editor of your choice.
DISCLAIMER: I did not check the code there in depth, so I cannot guarantee that
this solution won't create a memory leak or something else. But for me it did
fix the problem.
I actually tried to find source code of DecorationsShape.cpp:73 but failed to
do so. Unity 7 seems to be abandoned or something, that's really strange
considering I'm using Ubuntu 20 LTS.
