[Bug 1937869] [NEW] not able to SSH access a server after bridge-utils was removed
Public bug reported: I've upgraded a server via `do-release-upgrade` from Ubuntu Bionic to Focal. It was ENI configured (since Ubuntu 12.04 Precise): ``` auto lo iface lo inet loopback # The primary network interface iface eth0 inet manual # The primary bridge interface auto br0 iface br0 inet static address 10.230.71.10 netmask 255.255.248.0 gateway 10.230.64.1 bridge_ports eth0 dns-nameservers 10.230.64.1 ``` and I lost SSH access to the system after the upgrade was completed because bridge-utils was removed during the last upgrade phase: ```Remove obsolete packages? 187 packages are going to be removed. ... Removing bridge-utils (1.6-2ubuntu1) ... ``` I think the reason was because `bridge-utils` was automatically installed, probably via `libvirt-bin`, but is this correct - a automatically package cleanup happening in an "obsolete removal" phase? ** Affects: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1937869 Title: not able to SSH access a server after bridge-utils was removed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/1937869/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1937380] Re: btrfs fails during scrub
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1937380/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. Hello, Thank you for filing this bug report. As I see: > I tried to install the Open Source Social Network and it > said there's some MySQL errors and conflicts? After reading the logs, which say: > 2021-07-22T02:13:49.189938Z 0 [ERROR] [MY-010285] [Server] > Failure to parse RSA private key (file exists): > /var/lib/mysql//private_key.pem: error:0909006C:PEM > routines:get_name:no start line It looks like the public key file contents were replaced with the private key file contents or somehow the keys got messed up. Interestingly, there's a similar known report in upstream tracker: https://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=70115 Maybe you can manually recover the keys and restart the slaves and things should start to work again normally? I tried to reproduce but couldn't find a way to do that. So whilst I can think it's a local issue and I am marking as "Incomplete", if you believe that it's actually a bug in the package rather than a local problem, let us know why you think that and if possible, give us some steps to reproduce the issue. Once done, also set the status of the bug to "New" and we'll take a look at it again. For local configuration issues, you can find assistance here: http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community Thank you! ** Bug watch added: MySQL Bug System #70115 http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=70115 ** Changed in: mysql-8.0 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1937141 Title: package mysql-server-8.0 8.0.25-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: installed mysql-server-8.0 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-8.0/+bug/1937141/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report. It seems that your point is to use the latest containerd version with and old docker.io version. [Bug 1931136] Re: Don't unhook ExitBootServices() when EBS protection is disabled
In lieu of other releases not being hirsute, I just did the "exit from grub returns to shell" test from inside the EFI shell with 15.4-0ubuntu7, which passed. I also accidentally did a MAAS-style PXE shim -> PXE grub -> ESP shim -> ESP grub chainboot which worked fine. We are going to do more regression testing in bug 1921134, but this makes me confident that the patch for EBS handling is still correctly working :) By virtue of binaries being identical, this verification applies to all releases. ** Tags removed: verification-needed verification-needed-bionic verification-needed-focal verification-needed-xenial ** Tags added: verification-done verification-done-bionic verification-done-focal verification-done-xenial -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1931136 Title: Don't unhook ExitBootServices() when EBS protection is disabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shim/+bug/1931136/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1905285] Re: socket-activated sshd breaks on concurrent connections
** Description changed: + [Impact] + + Users of the systemd socket activated ssh service may experience a race + condition that may lead an ssh instance to fail. + + The race condition happens when, for a running socket activated ssh + service, + + an instance A is started, creating the RuntimeDirectory for the service; + then + + an instance B is started, relying on the RuntimeDirectory created for + instance A; then + + instance A halts, causing the RuntimeDirectory to be deleted. + + If, at this point, instance B has not chrooted into RuntimeDirectory + yet, then instance B will fail. + + The proposed patch fixes the issue by preserving the RuntimeDirectory + after an instance A of the socket activated ssh service halts. + + [Test Plan] + + 1) Stop any running instances of ssh. + `systemctl stop ssh` + + 2) Start the socket activated ssh service. + `systemctl start ssh.socket` + + 3) Verify that no errors related to ssh were logged in /var/log/auth.log + `cat /var/log/auth.log | grep 'sshd.*fatal.*chroot.*No such file or directory'` + + 4) perform several ssh connections to the running server in a short time span. ssh-keyscan may help here. + `ssh-keyscan localhost` + + 5) Verify that errors related to ssh were logged in /var/log/auth.log + `cat /var/log/auth.log | grep 'sshd.*fatal.*chroot.*No such file or directory'` + + 6) Apply the proposed fix (make sure the socket activated service is + restarted) + + 7) repead step (4), then verify that no new entries were appended to the + step (5) output + + [Where problems could occur] + + If the changes to the socket activated unit file are wrong, the socket + activated service may fail to start after the package upgrade. In this + case, we would need to instruct users to perform local changes to the + unit file with possible additional fixes while a new version of the + patch lands. + + [Other Info] + + This fix has been forwarded to Debian and accepted in + https://salsa.debian.org/ssh-team/openssh/-/merge_requests/12 + + [Original message] + This is mostly the same issue as https://bugs.debian.org/cgi- bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=934663. With the default configuration of openssh-server and systemd, sshd will complain and crash when multiple connections are made and terminated in a quick succession, e.g. with `ssh-keyscan`. It results in the following errors in /var/log/auth.log: ``` Nov 22 20:53:34 {host} sshd[14567]: Unable to negotiate with {client} port 41460: no matching host key type found. [Bug 1937238] Re: systemd-time-wait-sync.service stuck in "activating" state after boot, blocks timers from starting
This is almost certainly because you don't have the systemd-timesyncd package installed, or you don't have the systemd-timesyncd service enabled. On a very quick glance, it seems the systemd-time-wait-sync service should have been bundled into the systemd-timesyncd package when it was split from the main systemd package, however I'll have to look closer to see if there is some reason it wasn't. ** Description changed: + [impact] + + systemd-time-wait-sync service never completes when systemd-timesyncd + package is not installed + + [test case] + + remove the systemd-timesyncd package and enable the systemd-time-wait- + sync service, and reboot. Check status of the service to see it's stuck + in 'activating' state, e.g.: + + ubuntu@lp1937238-f:~$ sudo systemctl status systemd-time-wait-sync.service + ● systemd-time-wait-sync.service - Wait Until Kernel Time Synchronized + Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/systemd-time-wait-sync.service; enabled; vendor preset: enabled) + Active: activating (start) since Fri 2021-07-23 15:32:12 UTC; 19s ago + + [regression potential] + + TBD + + [scope] + + this is needed in f and later + + the systemd-timesyncd package was split out from the main systemd + package starting in focal, so this problem exists in f and later + + the service doesn't exist in b, so this is not needed there + + [original description] + When I start my server running Ubuntu 20.04 the systemd-time-wait- sync.service is stuck in "activating" state. I noticed this because none of the systemd timer units triggered, because all the timers depend on systemd-time-wait-sync.service. Running "systemctl restart systemd-time- wait-sync.service" manually works around the problem.
