[Bug 1937115] Re: Unable to boot/install Impish daily in UEFI boot mode

2021-07-23 Thread Bernard Stafford
Daily 20210721 .iso . This Bug was reported in QA Test Live Session.
Just installed .iso in Virtual Box from a download file,
Tested as Live Session, Success. Loaded good everything worked.
Except for some outdated files that apport would not collect.
Most likely files being used until developed ones finish.
Please check your media and .iso checksum.
Could have a corrupt download or bad USB.

On Ubuntu Desktop AMD daily 20210721.This bug report is reported on testing
Live Session.
Notation .iso works good in Virtual Box. Except for some old expired packages
used, still in development; apport would not send report. Image loads fine.
Live session works good.
Please check your media and .iso checksum or gpg.

2021-07-23 Thread Brett Johnson
I resolved this problem by modifying my /etc/apt/sources.list to remove
the mirror method, and point directly to ubuntu sources. I.e. my old
sources.list contained lines like this:

  deb mirror://mirrors.ubuntu.com/mirrors.txt xenial main restricted

Which I modified to this:

  deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ xenial main restricted

[Bug 1937874] [NEW] one --accept-regex expression negates another

That's bogus. The workaround is to remove this option:

--accept-regex 'administrative-orders.page[^&]*$'

But that should not be necessary. Adding an --accept-* clause should
never cause another --accept-* clause to become invalidated and it
should not shrink the set of fetched files.

[Bug 1937873] [NEW] overlay-root doesn't work bij default.

2021-07-23 Thread Usarin Heininga
Public bug reported:

By default the module 90overlay-root gets installed, but this module won't work
in hostonly mode.
In hostonly mode the required kernel module overlay is not installed.
Using the command line option rootovl at boot will hang the system, because the
dracut module will try to run but fail because of the missing kernel support.
Other dracut modules fix this by setting hostonly='' before running instmods.

Regards,

Usarin Heininga

[Bug 1937869] [NEW] not able to SSH access a server after bridge-utils was removed

2021-07-23 Thread Patricia Domingues
Public bug reported:

I've upgraded a server via `do-release-upgrade` from Ubuntu Bionic to
Focal. It was ENI configured (since Ubuntu 12.04 Precise):

```
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
# The primary network interface
iface eth0 inet manual
# The primary bridge interface
auto br0
iface br0 inet static
 address 10.230.71.10
 netmask 255.255.248.0
 gateway 10.230.64.1
 bridge_ports eth0
 dns-nameservers 10.230.64.1
```

and I lost SSH access to the system after the upgrade was completed
because bridge-utils was removed during the last upgrade phase:

```Remove obsolete packages?
187 packages are going to be removed.
...
Removing bridge-utils (1.6-2ubuntu1) ...
```
I think the reason was because `bridge-utils` was automatically installed,
probably via `libvirt-bin`, but is this correct - a automatically package
cleanup happening in an "obsolete removal" phase?

[Bug 1937286] Re: containerd depends on unreleased docker19 package in focal

2021-07-23 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thanks for reporting this issue.

This is happening because containerd relies on a version of docker.io in
-updates, which in turn requires a version of runc in -updates.

This issue affects environments where the updates pocket is disabled and
only the security pocket is used.

We will rebuild docker.io and runc in the -security pocket and will
publish them early next week.

[Bug 1937316] Re: Cannot download source packages provided by Ubuntu ESM

2021-07-23 Thread Rob Savoury
Understood. It is simply a distinction therefore between ESM supported
systems and regular LTS supported systems (still in the usual five year
support window). Good to have that clarified.

[Bug 1927161] Re: dpkg-source: error: diff 'openssl/debian/patches/pr12272.patch' patches files multiple times; split the diff in multiple files or merge the hunks into a single one

2021-07-23 Thread Dan Streetman
multiple patches shouldn't ever be cat'ed into a single file; that is
awful. One patch file per actual patch.

This fails because quilt allows fuzz, while dpkg-source doesn't, and it
shouldn't.

[Bug 1863434] Re: 20.04 grub menu not visible

2021-07-23 Thread playerum
I have the same problem.

I've installed Windows 10 with Secure Boot enabled, then I've installed
Ubuntu 18.04.5 without Secure Boot, the menu was not displayed, I
thought it was because of the Secure Boot, but...

My notebook (Dell Inspiron 5537) has a battery problem and displays a message
asking to press F1 key to continue or F2 for settings.
I removed the battery and the grub graphical menu was displayed without a
problem.

With the battery connected I had to use the `GRUB_TERMINAL=console`
option to show the menu.

I'm not, I hit it all the time with git-style multiple patches in one

I am quite surprised by this behaviour.

Especially since, `quilt push -a; debuild -S` works find, unpacks fine,
applies fine etc.

Quite a weird limitation imho. Do you think this warrants an upstream
dpkg bug report?

[Bug 1937316] Re: Cannot download source packages provided by Ubuntu ESM

Yes, this is intended. It is not assumed that every user with access to
a system can access credentials used to operate the software on the
system. It is assumed a user with root access can access those
credentials and provide source packages as might be required for
customer purposes.

[Bug 1937854] [NEW] Keyboard shortcut Super+Up is hardcoded to show activities overview

2021-07-23 Thread Heewa Barfchin
Public bug reported:

### Affected version

Ubuntu 21.10 (dev), Wayland, Gnome 40.2.0, gnome-shell 40.2-1ubuntu1

### Bug summary

The keyboard shortcut `Super+Up` seems to be hardcoded to something
along the lines of showing activities overview, and cannot be removed or
used for any other action, even if it's shown as assigned to one.

### Steps to reproduce

1. Open system preferences, and navigate to Keyboard -> Keyboard Shortcuts ->
Customize Shortcuts -> System
2. Verify that no action has `Super+Up` set, removing/changing any actions if
it's already assigned.
3. Optional: assign `Super+Up` to some other action.
4. Press `Super+Up`

### What did you expect to happen

Either the action which `Super+Up` is shown to be assigned to, or
nothing if no action has that shortcut assigned.

### What happened

The activities overview is shown.

[Bug 1937850] [NEW] the -L / --relative option breaks --accept-regex

2021-07-23 Thread Bill Yikes
Public bug reported:

This code should in principle (per the docs) fetch a few *.pdf files:

$ wget -r --level 1 --adjust-extension --relative --no-clobber --no-directories\
   --domains=ncua.gov --accept-regex 'administrative-orders/.*.pdf'\

'https://www.ncua.gov/regulation-supervision/enforcement-actions/administrative-orders?page=22=year=desc='

But it misses all *.pdf files. When the --relative option is removed,
the PDF files are downloaded. However, when you examine the tree-top
HTML file, the links pointing to PDF files actually are relative.

[Bug 1937380] Re: btrfs fails during scrub

2021-07-23 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1937380/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you

[Bug 1937141] Re: package mysql-server-8.0 8.0.25-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: installed mysql-server-8.0 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2021-07-23 Thread Utkarsh Gupta
Hello,

Thank you for filing this bug report. As I see:
> I tried to install the Open Source Social Network and it
> said there's some MySQL errors and conflicts?

After reading the logs, which say:
> 2021-07-22T02:13:49.189938Z 0 [ERROR] [MY-010285] [Server]
> Failure to parse RSA private key (file exists):
> /var/lib/mysql//private_key.pem: error:0909006C:PEM
> routines:get_name:no start line

It looks like the public key file contents were replaced with the
private key file contents or somehow the keys got messed up.

Interestingly, there's a similar known report in upstream tracker:
https://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=70115

Maybe you can manually recover the keys and restart the slaves and
things should start to work again normally?

I tried to reproduce but couldn't find a way to do that. So whilst I can
think it's a local issue and I am marking as "Incomplete", if you
believe that it's actually a bug in the package rather than a local
problem, let us know why you think that and if possible, give us some
steps to reproduce the issue. Once done, also set the status of the bug
to "New" and we'll take a look at it again.

For local configuration issues, you can find assistance here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Thank you!

mac read_eeprom
mac mac_address 01:02:03:04:05:06
max write_eeprom

I have not tested this!

The code first appeared in commit 946afdf6209e ("board: sifive:
unmatched: add initial support for a platform ID EEPROM") dated June
30th, 2021 and is not contained in release v2021.07.

[Bug 1937286] Re: containerd depends on unreleased docker19 package in focal

2021-07-23 Thread Miriam España Acebal
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

It seems that your point is to use the latest containerd version with
and old docker.io version. We kindly suggest, if it's possible for you,
update to the latest docker.io version from updates repositories. We
can't figure out more about your necessity of installing
19.03.8-0ubuntu1.20.04.1 version without more context from your side...
it seems you're receiving only security updates, not updates, but we
can't confirm that without more information.

However, if you believe that this is really a bug in Ubuntu, then we would
be grateful if you would provide a more complete description of the problem
with steps to reproduce, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu
rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug
status back to "New".

For local configuration issues, you can find assistance here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

[Bug 1931136] Re: Don't unhook ExitBootServices() when EBS protection is disabled

2021-07-23 Thread Julian Andres Klode
In lieu of other releases not being hirsute, I just did the "exit from
grub returns to shell" test from inside the EFI shell with
15.4-0ubuntu7, which passed. I also accidentally did a MAAS-style PXE
shim -> PXE grub -> ESP shim -> ESP grub chainboot which worked fine.

We are going to do more regression testing in bug 1921134, but this
makes me confident that the patch for EBS handling is still correctly
working :)

By virtue of binaries being identical, this verification applies to all
releases.

[Bug 1905285] Re: socket-activated sshd breaks on concurrent connections

2021-07-23 Thread Athos Ribeiro
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ Users of the systemd socket activated ssh service may experience a race
+ condition that may lead an ssh instance to fail.
+
+ The race condition happens when, for a running socket activated ssh
+ service,
+
+ an instance A is started, creating the RuntimeDirectory for the service;
+ then
+
+ an instance B is started, relying on the RuntimeDirectory created for
+ instance A; then
+
+ instance A halts, causing the RuntimeDirectory to be deleted.
+
+ If, at this point, instance B has not chrooted into RuntimeDirectory
+ yet, then instance B will fail.
+
+ The proposed patch fixes the issue by preserving the RuntimeDirectory
+ after an instance A of the socket activated ssh service halts.
+
+ [Test Plan]
+
+ 1) Stop any running instances of ssh.
+ `systemctl stop ssh`
+
+ 2) Start the socket activated ssh service.
+ `systemctl start ssh.socket`
+
+ 3) Verify that no errors related to ssh were logged in /var/log/auth.log
+ `cat /var/log/auth.log | grep 'sshd.*fatal.*chroot.*No such file or
directory'`
+
+ 4) perform several ssh connections to the running server in a short time
span. ssh-keyscan may help here.
+ `ssh-keyscan localhost`
+
+ 5) Verify that errors related to ssh were logged in /var/log/auth.log
+ `cat /var/log/auth.log | grep 'sshd.*fatal.*chroot.*No such file or
directory'`
+
+ 6) Apply the proposed fix (make sure the socket activated service is
+ restarted)
+
+ 7) repead step (4), then verify that no new entries were appended to the
+ step (5) output
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ If the changes to the socket activated unit file are wrong, the socket
+ activated service may fail to start after the package upgrade. In this
+ case, we would need to instruct users to perform local changes to the
+ unit file with possible additional fixes while a new version of the
+ patch lands.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ This fix has been forwarded to Debian and accepted in
+ https://salsa.debian.org/ssh-team/openssh/-/merge_requests/12

[Bug 1937238] Re: systemd-time-wait-sync.service stuck in "activating" state after boot, blocks timers from starting

2021-07-23 Thread Dan Streetman
This is almost certainly because you don't have the systemd-timesyncd
package installed, or you don't have the systemd-timesyncd service
enabled.

On a very quick glance, it seems the systemd-time-wait-sync service
should have been bundled into the systemd-timesyncd package when it was
split from the main systemd package, however I'll have to look closer to
see if there is some reason it wasn't.

** Description changed:

+ [impact]
+
+ systemd-time-wait-sync service never completes when systemd-timesyncd
+ package is not installed
+
+ [test case]
+
+ remove the systemd-timesyncd package and enable the systemd-time-wait-
+ sync service, and reboot. Check status of the service to see it's stuck
+ in 'activating' state, e.g.:
+
+ ubuntu@lp1937238-f:~$ sudo systemctl status systemd-time-wait-sync.service
+ ● systemd-time-wait-sync.service - Wait Until Kernel Time Synchronized
+  Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/systemd-time-wait-sync.service;
enabled; vendor preset: enabled)
+ Active: activating (start) since Fri 2021-07-23 15:32:12 UTC; 19s ago
+
+ [regression potential]
+
+ TBD
+
+ [scope]
+
+ this is needed in f and later
+
+ the systemd-timesyncd package was split out from the main systemd
+ package starting in focal, so this problem exists in f and later
+
+ the service doesn't exist in b, so this is not needed there
+
+ [original description]
+
  When I start my server running Ubuntu 20.04 the systemd-time-wait-
  sync.service is stuck in "activating" state. I noticed this because none
  of the systemd timer units triggered, because all the timers depend on
  systemd-time-wait-sync.service. Running "systemctl restart systemd-time-
  wait-sync.service" manually works around the problem.
