[Bug 1972043] [NEW] Please add -ftrivial-auto-var-init=zero to default build flags
Public bug reported: Please add "-ftrivial-auto-var-init=zero" for GCC 12 (which is the first release of GCC to provide this flag). It goes well with the other important security flaw mitigation flags already enabled in Ubuntu for GCC: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ToolChain/CompilerFlags While many variables are initialized (due to -Wuninitialized), there is a blind spot for variables passed by reference, padding, and cases where -Wuninitialized just fails to track it. Universally wiping the variables eliminates nearly the entire class of uninitialized stack variable use (https://cwe.mitre.org/data/definitions/457.html) with nearly no overhead (e.g. any duplicate assignments will already be squashed during dead store elimination, etc). ** Affects: gcc-12 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1972043 Title: Please add -ftrivial-auto-var-init=zero to default build flags To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-12/+bug/1972043/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1970260] [NEW] SECURITY: safe.directory backport doesn't check key name
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** You have been subscribed to a public security bug by Seth Arnold (seth-arnold): The recent backport of the security fix for CVE-2022-24765 does not contain enough of the upstream fix for the issue. Specifically, it does not contain a subsequent commit that corrects the omission of checking the key name when searching the config file for safe directories. In the implementation backported to Ubuntu, the config file parser does not check the name of the key when scanning key/value pairs for directories that should be considered as safe. As such, any key whose value looks like a directory name will cause that directory to be treated as safe. (i.e. "foo.bar = /path/to/something" is functionally equivalent to "safe.directory = /path/to/something") Upstream commit bb50ec3cc300eeff3aba7a2bea145aabdb477d31 which fixes the issue is attached as a patch. ** Affects: git (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Fix Released -- SECURITY: safe.directory backport doesn't check key name https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1970260 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1918583] Re: Switch to libgpiod and disable CONFIG_GPIO_SYSFS
Now that jammy's out (which still includes CONFIG_GPIO_SYSFS), let's at least consider this for kinetic. I would suggest it would sensible to at least try this in an interim release prior to the next LTS. There will undoubtedly be things that break, but it's probably better to be aware of how much breakage potential there is around this (and what it would take to encourage users over to libgpiod, or if that's practical in all cases). I'll add linux-raspi to the target list as that's probably the kernel flavour that this will impact most and target to kinetic. ** Also affects: linux-raspi (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu Kinetic) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Also affects: linux-raspi (Ubuntu Kinetic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags added: rls-kk-incoming -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1918583 Title: Switch to libgpiod and disable CONFIG_GPIO_SYSFS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1918583/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Yes Trogdor, it seems to be the same bug as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1971516 Can confirm that when selecting the file name box this issue does not happen. This explains every single behavior I've described. On a second thought, this issue doesn't seem to be related to "top level directories" whatsoever. The observed behavior of top-level directories emerges because when you click on any shortcut on the left the file name box is selected. Another thing I've noticed is that both Chrome, Firefox and Telegram have a full screen file save dialog. Software that have a resizable file save dialog (or a custom file save dialog) don't seem to suffer from this behavior. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1970984 Title: Can't save files in a Folder in a Folder 22.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1970984/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1972034] [NEW] On browser download/save dialog, filename in name box is highlighted as if it is active, but typing doesn't edit name unless you click into the box
Public bug reported: This has bugged me for many years now, and figure as long as the kinks are being worked out on this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1971516 I should bring it up: When you download a file from a browser, the save dialog pops up, and the filename in the name box at the top is highlighted (just the name, not the extension), which is the universal symbol for "I'm highlighted, start typing and you'll overwrite me!" However, typing does nothing unless you click the box, at which point the cursor is in the middle of the name, and you have re-highlight if you want to rename the file. This is still confusing to me after many years. Expected behaviour: Either: Filename is highlighted and you can start typing to replace the name (but not the extension) Or: Filname is NOT highlighted by default, indicating you are not ready to edit. Since Ubuntu 20.04... possibly longer. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1972034 Title: On browser download/save dialog, filename in name box is highlighted as if it is active, but typing doesn't edit name unless you click into the box To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1972034/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1971516] Re: File save dialog from all browsers can't save outside of Downloads or /tmp when file name is not selected
Updated the title because I think I figured out the key (and it looks like others have too!). If you navigate through the file system, the "name" box at the top becomes greyed out, and when hit "save" nothing happens. If you click into the name box again to make it active, it saves as expected. If you click into one of the shortcut folders on the left (Downloads, Home) it can save because the filename box remains active. However, clicking any other folder the name box is inactive and saving just doesn't happen. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1971516 Title: File save/download from all browsers fails to save when file name box is not active. [Bug 1971992] Re: openssl rmd160 digest broken
Hey Jan, thanks for the report. This has been discussed upstream at https://github.com/openssl/openssl/issues/16994. OpenSSL 3 has deprecated RIPEMD160 and thus moved them to the legacy provider according to the official openssl migration guide at https://www.openssl.org/docs/manmaster/man7/migration_guide.html. It looks like it can be worked around for now by adding -provider legacy as in: openssl rmd160 -provider legacy < some-file or by modifying your openssl.cnf to always load the legacy provider. ** Bug watch added: github.com/openssl/openssl/issues #16994 https://github.com/openssl/openssl/issues/16994 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1971992 Title: openssl rmd160 digest broken To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssl/+bug/1971992/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1968722] Re: File fails to print when rendered with CUPS, prints fine when fed directly to printer
> These two statements seem to be contradictory. If driverless printing is more reliable, that would seem to imply that files sent directly to the printer print more reliably than files sent through the CUPS filters, which would seem to imply that it is the filters, not the printer, that have bugs. Driverless printing does not mean sending PostScript files directly to the printer, it means that the client discovers the printer via DNS-SD, queries the printer for its capabilities via IPP, and then prints in one of the formats PDF, Apple Raster, PWG Raster, or PCLm to the printer, dpending what it supports. CUPS does this automatically if no "conventional" print queue exists (remove any queue for your printer).
