I just encountered this issue when upgrading from 21.10 to 22.04, not
with a google account but with an orange.fr account. Workarounded thanks
to #4.

[Bug 1969326] Re: Enable hotspot feature for Realtek 8821CE

2022-05-06 Thread Soumadeep Sarkar
Can someone please verify the fix? I cannot verify the fix for Ubuntu
20.04, I am running Ubuntu 22.04 and I enabled proposed from software &
updates, there were a few kernel updates, the latest one being
5.15.0-30-generic. I did all the available updates in proposed. But wifi
hotspot still doesn't work on Ubuntu 22.04. My smartphone is able to
detect the hotspot but is unable to connect to it.

2022-05-06 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

I suggest looking through the OpenSSL notes in the Jammy Release Notes:
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/jammy-jellyfish-release-notes/24668

The OpenSSL security defaults have been raised in this release and it's
possible your VPN's configuration doesn't meet the minimum safety
guidelines.

[Bug 1971415] [NEW] Remote desktop is automatically enabled after login

*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

You have been subscribed to a public security bug by Seth Arnold (seth-arnold):

If I disable sharing/remote desktop in GNOME Control Center, then log
out and back in, it is automatically enabled again. I report this as a
security vulnerability because remote desktop is enabled without the
user's knowledge.

Software versions:
- Ubuntu 22.04
- gnome-remote-desktop 42.0-4ubuntu1
- gnome-control-center 1:41.4-1ubuntu13

Steps to reproduce:
1. Start with Remote Desktop enabled. "systemctl --user status
gnome-remote-desktop.service" reports "active (running)".
2. Disable Remote Desktop in Control Center. systemctl reports "inactive
(dead)".
3. Log out and back in.
4. Open Control Center. Remote Desktop is enabled again. systemctl reports
"active (running)".

Expected behavior:
Remote Desktop should stay disabled upon the new login.

Actual behavior:
Remote Desktop was automatically enabled again.

[Bug 1971192] Re: CVE-2022-0330

2022-05-06 Thread Seth Arnold
Hello Luís, we released a fix for this CVE for linux-azure-fde on 22
February 2022 in USN-5294-2:
https://ubuntu.com/security/notices/USN-5294-2

The linux-azure-fde source package is actually just some scripts, and
our kernel update tooling shows incorrect results on the webpage as a
result. Hopefully we will fix the tooling to give good reports, but in
the meantime I suggest tracking issues in this kernel via the USNs.

Thanks

Free up some space on the root filesystem, and then try:

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.

Hello, your bug has a few things:

cp: reguläre Datei '/usr/opt/eset/esets/lib/libesets_pac.so' kann nicht
angelegt werden: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden

This error message means something is broken with your antivirus
program. I suggest contacting ESET about this. Give them a link to this
bug report, it'll help their support staff understand what is going
wrong.

These messages suggest that you probably have a hardware problem:

[ 316.377333] pcieport :00:1c.0: AER: Corrected error received:

[  316.377338] pcieport :00:1c.0: PCIe Bus Error: severity=Corrected,

They are repeated over and over in your logs. It looks very unhappy.

[Bug 1972043] [NEW] Please add -ftrivial-auto-var-init=zero to default build flags

2022-05-06 Thread Kees Cook
Public bug reported:

Please add "-ftrivial-auto-var-init=zero" for GCC 12 (which is the first
release of GCC to provide this flag).

It goes well with the other important security flaw mitigation flags already
enabled in Ubuntu for GCC:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ToolChain/CompilerFlags

While many variables are initialized (due to -Wuninitialized), there is
a blind spot for variables passed by reference, padding, and cases where
-Wuninitialized just fails to track it. Universally wiping the variables
eliminates nearly the entire class of uninitialized stack variable use
(https://cwe.mitre.org/data/definitions/457.html) with nearly no
overhead (e.g. any duplicate assignments will already be squashed during
dead store elimination, etc).

2022-05-06 Thread Seth Arnold
Hello, this looks like the starting point of the problem:

Start-Date: 2022-04-17  16:08:22
Commandline: apt-get purge firefox
Purge: firefox-locale-de:amd64 (1:1snap1-0ubuntu2), firefox:amd64

End-Date: 2022-04-17  16:08:24

Start-Date: 2022-04-17  16:12:17
Commandline: apt-get install firefox firefox-locale-de
Install: firefox-locale-de:amd64 (1:1snap1-0ubuntu2), firefox:amd64
(1:1snap1-0ubuntu2)
Error: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
End-Date: 2022-04-17  16:12:19

I suggest trying:

sudo apt purge firefox-locale-de firefox+

(The + at the end of firefox+ will ask apt to install firefox.)

[Bug 1970158] Re: Login Password error

2022-05-06 Thread Seth Arnold
I'm sorry, this doesn't make enough sense for me to know where to re-
assign this. I suggest giving a lot more details about what applications
you're using, etc.

Thanks

[Bug 1970260] [NEW] SECURITY: safe.directory backport doesn't check key name

2022-05-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

You have been subscribed to a public security bug by Seth Arnold (seth-arnold):

The recent backport of the security fix for CVE-2022-24765 does not
contain enough of the upstream fix for the issue. Specifically, it does
not contain a subsequent commit that corrects the omission of checking
the key name when searching the config file for safe directories.

In the implementation backported to Ubuntu, the config file parser does
not check the name of the key when scanning key/value pairs for
directories that should be considered as safe. As such, any key whose
value looks like a directory name will cause that directory to be
treated as safe.  (i.e. "foo.bar = /path/to/something" is functionally
equivalent to "safe.directory = /path/to/something")

Upstream commit bb50ec3cc300eeff3aba7a2bea145aabdb477d31 which fixes the
issue is attached as a patch.

[Bug 1918583] Re: Switch to libgpiod and disable CONFIG_GPIO_SYSFS

2022-05-06 Thread Dave Jones
Now that jammy's out (which still includes CONFIG_GPIO_SYSFS), let's at
least consider this for kinetic. I would suggest it would sensible to at
least try this in an interim release prior to the next LTS. There will
undoubtedly be things that break, but it's probably better to be aware
of how much breakage potential there is around this (and what it would
take to encourage users over to libgpiod, or if that's practical in all
cases).

I'll add linux-raspi to the target list as that's probably the kernel
flavour that this will impact most and target to kinetic.

[Bug 1799679] Re: Nvidia driver causes Xorg to use 100% CPU and huge lag when dragging OpenGL app windows

2022-05-06 Thread Kes
Updated today to 22.04 and started noticing this issue as well.

easy to reproduce when chrome have video or any kind of animation happening.
If there are only static pages (like text). There are no lag. This affects all
window dragging.

* terminal
* files
* other apps
* also chrome itself

Once chrome tab with animation/video/charts is closed or no longer
active, everything start working fast again.

Only interesting err from journal:
```
[Bug 1970984] Re: Can't save files in a Folder in a Folder 22.04
2022-05-06 Thread Miguel Belardinelli Prytoluk
Yes Trogdor, it seems to be the same bug as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1971516
Can confirm that when selecting the file name box this issue does not
happen. This explains every single behavior I've described. On a second
thought, this issue doesn't seem to be related to "top level
directories" whatsoever. The observed behavior of top-level directories
emerges because when you click on any shortcut on the left the file name
box is selected.
Another thing I've noticed is that both Chrome, Firefox and Telegram
have a full screen file save dialog. Software that have a resizable file
save dialog (or a custom file save dialog) don't seem to suffer from
this behavior.
[Bug 1972034] [NEW] On browser download/save dialog, filename in name box is highlighted as if it is active, but typing doesn't edit name unless you click into the box
2022-05-06 Thread Trogdor
Public bug reported:
This has bugged me for many years now, and figure as long as the kinks
are being worked out on this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1971516 I should
bring it up:
When you download a file from a browser, the save dialog pops up, and
the filename in the name box at the top is highlighted (just the name,
not the extension), which is the universal symbol for "I'm highlighted,
start typing and you'll overwrite me!"
However, typing does nothing unless you click the box, at which point
the cursor is in the middle of the name, and you have re-highlight if
you want to rename the file.
This is still confusing to me after many years.
Expected behaviour:
Either: Filename is highlighted and you can start typing to replace the
name (but not the extension)
Or: Filname is NOT highlighted by default, indicating you are not ready
to edit.
Since Ubuntu 20.04... possibly longer.
[Bug 1971516] Re: File save dialog from all browsers can't save outside of Downloads or /tmp when file name is not selected
2022-05-06 Thread Trogdor
Updated the title because I think I figured out the key (and it looks
like others have too!).
If you navigate through the file system, the "name" box at the top
becomes greyed out, and when hit "save" nothing happens. If you click
into the name box again to make it active, it saves as expected.
If you click into one of the shortcut folders on the left (Downloads,
Home) it can save because the filename box remains active. However,
clicking any other folder the name box is inactive and saving just
doesn't happen.
[Bug 1970984] Re: Can't save files in a Folder in a Folder 22.04
2022-05-06 Thread Miguel Belardinelli Prytoluk
I've done some further testing and this is 100% reproducible with Chrome
(deb), Firefox (apt) and Telegram Desktop (binary):
I can save to any of the "first level" directories, but not to any of the child
folders:
File saving testing with those three software:
~/ -> OK
~/1 -> Error
~/Desktop -> OK
~/Desktop/1 -> Error
~/Documents -> OK
~/Documents/1 -> Error
~/Downloads -> OK
~/Downloads/1 -> Error
~/Music -> OK
~/Music/1 -> Error
~/Pictures -> OK
~/Pictures/1 -> Error
~/Videos -> OK
~/Videos/1 -> Error
/media/DATA (a mounted partition) -> OK
/media/DATA/1 -> Error
[Bug 1971992] Re: openssl rmd160 digest broken
2022-05-06 Thread Tobias Heider
Hey Jan, thanks for the report. This has been discussed upstream at
https://github.com/openssl/openssl/issues/16994.
OpenSSL 3 has deprecated RIPEMD160 and thus moved them to the legacy provider
according to the official openssl migration guide at
https://www.openssl.org/docs/manmaster/man7/migration_guide.html.
It looks like it can be worked around for now by adding -provider legacy as in:
openssl rmd160 -provider legacy < some-file
or by modifying your openssl.cnf to always load the legacy provider.
This is no longer reproducible. I always create volumes this way and it
works. The latest version tested with Jammy Jellyfish: 1:4.0.0-1
Could you run the command
sudo lsusb -vvv > lsusb-out.txt
again, and even if it produces error messages attach the lsusb-out.txt
file to this bug report?
Thanks.
[Bug 1879169] Re: Thumbs never updated after renaming a bunch of image files
2022-05-06 Thread Alan Baghumian
Just tested with Focal's Nautilus 1:3.36.3-0ubuntu1.20.04.1 and this
does not happen.
Followed the same scenario and renamed 2 out of 4 sample files:
1) Using Nautilus itself.
2) Closed Nautilus and renamed the files in terminal.
In both cases Nautilus automatically regenerated the thumbnails.
[Bug 1968722] Re: File fails to print when rendered with CUPS, prints fine when fed directly to printer
2022-05-06 Thread Till Kamppeter
> These two statements seem to be contradictory. If driverless printing
is more reliable, that would seem to imply that files sent directly to
the printer print more reliably than files sent through the CUPS
filters, which would seem to imply that it is the filters, not the
printer, that have bugs.
Driverless printing does not mean sending PostScript files directly to
the printer, it means that the client discovers the printer via DNS-SD,
queries the printer for its capabilities via IPP, and then prints in one
of the formats PDF, Apple Raster, PWG Raster, or PCLm to the printer,
dpending what it supports. CUPS does this automatically if no
"conventional" print queue exists (remove any queue for your printer).
Or you can create a print queue with the lpadmin command and the "-m
everywhere" model specification.
Does this perhaps work for you?
[Bug 1970984] Re: Can't save files in a Folder in a Folder 22.04
2022-05-06 Thread Miguel Belardinelli Prytoluk
This does not happen only with browsers. Telegram Desktop can save files
to "~/" but not to "~/1/". I've tried gedit code and deluge, and I have
no issues saving files with those.
