[Bug 2058866] Re: proposed-migration for cups-browsed 2.0.0-0ubuntu8

2024-03-24 Thread John Johansen
So what I think is going on from a first pass look at this is that

We are seeing a change in kernel behavior around exec. The 6.8 has a
known change here, that doesn't normally trigger because unconfined is
delegating access into the profile. However in the lxd case, unconfined
can is not delegating access it the profile needs access to the
application.

the accompanying patch should fix the issue, and does not actually grant
anymore permission that was already required, it was just being
delegated in by unconfined.

[Bug 2058881] [NEW] [snap] Allow chromium snap to access Pressure Stall Information (PSI)

It seems the AppAmor profile should be updated to allow Chromium access
to the pressure stall information for it to monitor and manage it's
processes?

All logs on https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/c/cups-browsed/noble/armhf
should include kernel information.

Latest 2.0.0-0ubuntu8 failure has:

211s autopkgtest [22:10:53]: testbed running kernel: Linux
5.15.0-101-generic #111-Ubuntu SMP Wed Mar 6 18:01:01 UTC 2024

Last successful 2.0.0-0ubuntu3 log has:

349s autopkgtest [18:43:33]: testbed running kernel: Linux
5.4.0-170-generic #188-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jan 10 09:51:10 UTC 2024

But that was a retry of the release version of the package AFTER things
started failing;
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-noble/noble/armhf/c/cups-browsed/20240322_173402_07be9@/log.gz
is earlier and has:

351s autopkgtest [17:30:50]: testbed running kernel: Linux
5.4.0-170-generic #188-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jan 10 09:51:10 UTC 2024

so it's not a kernel difference.

It appears to be a genuine change in the binaries when built with new
toolchain that causes them to have a new mmap that wasn't there before?

If I aa-enforce and run strace, I see:

execve("/usr/sbin/cups-browsed", ["cups-browsed"], 0xffa82a54 /* 12 vars
*/) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied)

so this failure happens before we even reach the executable?

[Bug 1970069] Re: Annoying boot messages interfering with splash screen

2024-03-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
That commit is not meant to reflect the outcome of discussions that
happened after it (comment #93). It's just an intermediate "UNRELEASED"
commit reflecting intermediate development.

My intent with shared repos like this is to show what is being worked on
before anything is released to the archive. The tags still accurately
reflect what reached or was proposed to the archive.

2024-03-24 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Hi again Vladimir,

I did upload a -6 today to temporarily disable the tests to help the ARM
builders across the transition better, so you can also do a sync, I
believe.

Disclaimer: I haven’t tested that on Ubuntu, only Debian, and not yet on
t64-affected architectures (but the powerpc buildds should pick it up
shortly; I was unable to make the armel and armhf ones meet the
prerequisites because the main archive is more strict in which porter
uploads it accepts than debian-ports are).

[Bug 2058866] Re: proposed-migration for cups-browsed 2.0.0-0ubuntu8

2024-03-24 Thread Steve Langasek
Reproducible on amd64.

[6037055.006277] audit: type=1400 audit(1711335561.053:35916):
apparmor="DENIED" operation="file_mmap" class="file"
namespace="root//lxd-noble_"
profile="/usr/sbin/cups-browsed" name="/usr/sbin/cups-browsed"
pid=788055 comm="cups-browsed" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r"
fsuid=1000110 ouid=100

So this is a regression wrt cups-browsed running under apparmor in a
container, and not specific to armhf.

[Bug 2058866] [NEW] proposed-migration for cups-browsed 2.0.0-0ubuntu8

2024-03-24 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

cups-browsed 2.0.0-0ubuntu8 on armhf segfaults on startup (detected via
an autopkgtest), early enough that LD_DEBUG=all gives no output. A
local no-change rebuild of 2.0.0-0ubuntu7 succeeded and the executable
ran, so 8 was uploaded to try to fix this. But the executable somehow
ONLY runs as ./debian/cups-browsed/usr/sbin/cups-browsed and segfaults
when invoked as /usr/sbin/cups-browsed.

[Bug 2054121] Re: Random whole system lockups on Lenovo ThinkStation P350 Tiny

2024-03-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I would not give up on NVIDIA just yet. No one else with NVIDIA hardware
is reporting an issue like this so it's just as likely a problem with
some other kernel driver or system component.

That said, unless you want to experiment with swapping components (like
the NVIDIA card or RAM) then changing to a new PC would be the fastest
solution.

[Bug 2054510] Re: Incomplete screen redraws in virtual machines running Xorg

2024-03-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It can be put into the next mutter update but there is no reason to
delay the currently proposed update for it. This seems like a never-
ending problem that we're discovering old intermittent build failures in
an old GNOME release. We will fix them as they are discovered, but not
all of them need to be treated as blockers.

2024-03-24 Thread Alan Pope  濾
Why do we have to file a new bug for this. The task for mantic says it's
fix released, but it clearly isn't.

alan@ziggy:~$ grep -r Meta.Rectangle /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/
/usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ubuntu-d...@ubuntu.com/appIcons.js:

This is fixed in noble, but not mantic.

I see no SRU pending: https://ubuntu-archive-team.ubuntu.com/pending-sru

This bug was filed against mantic, it's a mantic bug. So the status of
'fixed released' is clearly just incorrect, surely?

[Bug 2058854] [NEW] ubuntukylin-desktop-minimal uninstallable, ukui-themes vs ubuntukylin-theme

2024-03-24 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

The new ukui-session-manager in -proposed makes ubuntukylin-
desktop(-minimal) uninstallable because it drops the alternative
dependency on ubuntukylin-theme | ukui-themes in favor of a dependency
on ukui-themes only, which conflicts with ubuntukylin-theme; but
ubuntukylin depends on ubuntukylin-theme (which makes sense).

This is entangled in the time_t transition, so I am uploading ukui-
session-manager to revert the dependency change. If some other change
to the ubuntukylin seed is desired, I leave that to the Ubuntu Kylin
team.

[Bug 2058851] [NEW] RM: ignition-gazebo ignition-gui ignition-launch ignition-rendering ignition-sensors

2024-03-24 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Public bug reported:

These are Ubuntu-specific and broken, we can't fix ignition-rendering
easily even, it has weird C++ build failures and seemingly undefined
macros.

[Bug 2058766] Re: .NET 8 fails to build with clang 18

2024-03-24 Thread Mateus Rodrigues de Morais
A fix has been pushed to dotnet/runtime main and made it to 9.0 [1].
This will probably need an upstream backport to release/8.0 before we
can pick it up. In the meantime, I'll create a patch with the necessary
changes.

[Bug 2058830] Re: vp9 hw decode broken on modern AMD apus, needs amdgpu update

2024-03-24 Thread Andrea Agnolin
** Description changed:

  Current version of amdgpu binaries in linux-firmware shipped with ubuntu
  22.04 (jammy) and ubuntu 23.10 (mantic) create various problems when
  decoding VP9 content with the iGPU on modern AMD mobile processor
  (rembrant and phoenix, i.e. 6xxxU/H, 7x40U/H and 7x35U/H processor).

  The issue has been reported and solved upstream:

- https://gitlab.com/kernel-firmware/linux-
- firmware/-/commit/977332782302476e1c863b09b840f463d0378807
+ https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/issues/8044
+
+ [EDIT: fixed link]

  Solution dates to the end of February: https://gitlab.com/kernel-
  firmware/linux-
  firmware/-/commit/977332782302476e1c863b09b840f463d0378807

  Ubuntu 24.04 already ships the updated binaries and should not be
  affected.

  Steps to reproduce:
  * on an affected system play a VP9 video with hardware decoding

  Additional links:
  *
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/commit/?id=977332782302476e1c863b09b840f463d0378807
  * https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2267714
  * https://www.phoronix.com/news/AMDGPU-Firmware-Fixes-VP9

  Workaround:
  * download the amdgpu folder from upstream linux-firmware repos
  * compress each file with zstd
  * copy into /lib/firmware/amdgpu
  * regenerate the initrd

  I'm currently running ubuntu 23.10 (mantic) with binaries from upstream
  and the issue is solved.

[Bug 2047022] Re: WiFi is not work after upgrade Kernel to 6.5.0-14-generic

2024-03-24 Thread Terrian
FTR Kernel 6.5.0-25 fixed the problem for me; using > 2 weeks now.

I posted the previous comment #29 (can no longer edit it) about how
previous 6.5 kernels caused unstable/broken wifi.

ASUS GA15 Zephyrus
AMD Ryzen 9 6900HS
MB GA503RM
NW Mediatek 7922

Prior to the 6.5.0-25 update, was using grub to force kernel 6.2.x so I
could maintain reliable wifi. Happily the bug seems fixed now, in my
case at least.

You might want to contact Oliver Grawert (o...@ubuntu.com) as he diagnosed
