[Bug 2059738] Re: Kernel 6.8 - Shutdown/Reboot hangs on Noble 24.04
Seeing this on my T460s as well Suspend (on lid close) ; the machine reaches the state where the lid light and the light on the power button "throb" as they would with 22.04, but the machine will not resume from suspend in response to keyboard events, mouse events, or a brief press to the power button. Poweroff : the machine reaches a state where everything appears "off", no lights, no screen activity etc, but the machine does not restart in response to a brief press of the power button. In both cases, a long-press of the power button is required. You can tell this has "taken" when the lights on the hardwire ethernet port blink briefly on release. Then a normal brief press will restart the machine. Both of these conditions happen reliably on lid close (suspend) or poweroff (from menu or command). Going to test reboot now since this is mentioned above. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2059738 Title: Kernel 6.8 - Shutdown/Reboot hangs on Noble 24.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/snapd/+bug/2059738/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1951832] Re: xl2tpd "Can not find tunnel" in jammy
Can confirm that Robie's fix works. 2) Step by step repro instructions Requirements : An L2TP VPN server (Windows Server) - Install Ubuntu 22.04 - Install network-manager-l2tp-gnome (and requirements) - Configure a new L2TP VPN connection for your server (in my case, not sure if this detail is required) - Configure gateway address - Configure password auth - In the IPsec Options, enable IPsec tunnelling - Configure the PSK from your server - In the PPP Options, enable MSPPE, and disable MSCHAP (leaving MSCHAPv2 the only auth option) Open a window with `journalctl -ef` running to watch the logs. Initiate the connection from nm-applet. 3) As someone definitely affected, and with a suitable corporate VPN endpoint available, I'll be happy to test the proposed updates. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1951832 Title: xl2tpd "Can not find tunnel" in jammy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xl2tpd/+bug/1951832/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1951832] Re: xl2tpd "Can not find tunnel" in jammy
More of a meta comment : If Ubuntu wishes to be taken seriously as a professional workstation OS (as I'm sure it will do, with an impending IPO next year), issues blocking VPN connectivity - especially to the Usual Suspect endpoints like L2TP (which will cover anyone using e.g. Azure for their corporate VPN) - need to be considered far more important. This issue was reported four months ago and will block Azure VPN connections from 22.04 until it's fixed (in the absence of workarounds), which means that many users would be unable to do their job, but has yet to be marked with an importance other than "Undecided". As an engineer who believes strongly that Linux has a place among his co-workers, it gets increasingly hard to justify this to operations when their compliance requirements (like connecting to VPNs) cannot be met out of the box. L2TP is, yes, a Microsoft thing. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't be taking it seriously - quite the opposite, as that means it forms a substantial minority of VPN endpoints out there. Hackarounds like manually installing old package versions or alternative VPN clients [1] do not inspire confidence. I know that the maintainers are absolutely doing their best within the constraints they are operating in, this comment is more directed at Canonical, in the hope that they can understand this is a part of the distro that needs to be tested and supported more rigorously. I get to see a quick glimpse of the Unity desktop, then this fullscreen splash error shows up "Oh no! Something has gone wrong. A problem has occurred and the system can't recover. [Bug 1969357] Re: Unity7 crashes on Jammy with 22.04's gnome-session version
Is this a `gnome-session` issue? The source sayeth (@ gnome- session/main.c:422) /* From 3.14 GDM sets XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP. For compatibility with * older versions of GDM, other display managers, and startx, * set a fallback value if we don't find it set. */ There doesn't seem to be any other location in the code that sets `XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP` and this code hasn't changed between the two versions listed above. Is this because of a change to `gdm` ? Does it work if you switch to lightdm? `gdm` sets this from the session definition, which is patched into gnome-session by debian/patches/ubuntu/ubuntu-sessions.patch (the patch file has changed between revisions but mostly to remove a community session) gdm fetches this @ daemon/gdm-session.c:2612 get_session_desktop_names() filename = g_strdup_printf ("%s.desktop", get_session_name (self)); g_debug ("GdmSession: getting desktop names for file '%s'", filename); keyfile = load_key_file_for_file (self, filename, NULL, NULL); if (keyfile != NULL) { gchar **names; names = g_key_file_get_string_list (keyfile, G_KEY_FILE_DESKTOP_GROUP, "DesktopNames", NULL, NULL); Can't see any obvious changes in GDM between Impish and Jammy that would cause this just from looking at the diffs though. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1969357 Title: Unity7 crashes on Jammy with 22.04's gnome-session version To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/1969357/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1624320] Re: systemd-resolved appends 127.0.0.53 to resolv.conf alongside existing entries
My problem with systemd-resolved : * My router hands out a nameserver (itself) via DNS * When I'm inside my network, I want my router to resolve IP addresses for my domain * When I'm outside my network, I want the public DNS to resolve them First lookup works fine! > does NOT improve security at all Reason why it does : all the other paths in PATH by default are root- writeable only. If a personal ~/bin folder is at the front by default, all it takes is for someone to exploit you is to e.g. get you to unpack an archive in your HOME that has a) the files you wanted and also b) a ./bin folder containing a `cd` program, for example Installing a persistent override of common system commands only requires user-level access with your ~/bin at the front of PATH. Yes, you still only need user-level access to add a line to someone's bash profiles to add ~/bin (or any other folder) to the start of PATH. But it's one more little thing to overcome. [Bug 1578193] Re: cannot load legacy-only plugin
> It appears that upstream 1.3.1+ plugin requires "Strong" secrets The bug report referenced relates that the decision to not support PSK (or IKEv1) in the StrongSwan NM plugin is a "political decision". In 2010. It's still a dumb one. Even today in 2017 my IT dept has set up their VPN with IKEv1 and an 18-char PSK. Which means I can't even use the command-line version of StrongSwan because the "political decision" is baked into the VPN daemon. By all means make it impossible for your SERVER to have a stupid config, but clients rarely have a choice over the setup they're connecting to. Conversely the No.1 complaint I hear about StrongSwan server is that it's hard to set up - I concur, having had to do it myself. But that's by the by here. This means there is currently _no_ NetworkManager VPN client for Ubuntu that supports IKEv1 ; you have to resort to the Shrewsoft client, which doesn't play well with other clients, doesn't play well with NetworkManager or it's captive dnsmasq instance. Is it useful to continue to use the output of a project that allows "political decisions" to get in the way of actually being useful to the greatest number of users? I would argue that the choice of StrongSwan over LibreSwan here is harming adoption of Ubuntu in the enterprise (presuming, that is, that LibreSwan has no such political opinions baked into it and you can actually use it's NM plugin to connect to most VPNs). If LibreSwan is good enough for RedHat and the GNOME team maintain a NM plugin for it (as they do), would that not be a better choice for Ubuntu? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1578193 Title: cannot load legacy-only plugin To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/1578193/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1625828] Re: Enforced PSK length >= 20
I agree - but making it really inconvenient to use a common business VPN configuration, however outdated and ill advised it may be, isn't doing Ubuntu as a distro any favours. I get that StrongSwan wants to maintain a reputation for, well, strength, but I'd consider the best place to encourage strength is on the server - make it inconvenient for admins to configure weak VPNs, and easier to configure strong ones, rather than make it downright awkward for clients to connect. That places the burden firmly in the court of those people who can actually do something to change things, and doesn't just create a duplicated problem across many, many clients, who suffer a loss of productivity as a result. The majority of outcomes from that scenario will be... * "Dammit, this piece of hippy OSS software doesn't work, I'm going back to Windows" * Lots of fiddling around with config files or alternate VPN clients * User contacts their network admin asking for changes and is told it's too much trouble (because they'll have to distribute new config to every user) ... many users will not feel inclined to question their network admin because they don't want to attract hassle or think it's futile, many will not be able to persuade them to change their setup, leaving only a small minority of cases where change will be affected in exchange for a lot of lost productivity. Anyway, I've said my piece, I accept that as the project maintainer your decisions about what code goes into your repo are final, and I'm not interested in having a huge argument. Since we've established that strongswan is not the package for IKEv1, perhaps Ubuntu should consider, like RedHat, offering libreswan, which AFAIK does have a working NetworkManager plugin that will support IKEv1. The lack of this feature is a focus of #1457078, so I'm going to close this as Invalid. ** Changed in: network-manager-strongswan (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1625828 Title: Enforced PSK length >= 20 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-strongswan/+bug/1625828/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1457078] Re: L2TP client support for PSK removed from 15.04/15.10
This has frustrated me for a month or so... I can get onto my work VPN via the ShrewSoft client (ike and ike-qtgui) but it's not integrated with NetworkManager (and overwrites /etc/resolv.conf, interfering with it). You have to resort to manual configuration of the dnsmasq instance created by NetworkManager in order to get it to play nice with managed connections - turn off the DNS settings in the ShrewSoft client and add them manually to dnsmasq to stop it overwriting /etc/resolv.conf The manual config above may also work, but likewise, won't play nice with other NetworkManager connections. The NM plugin for StrongSwan has been updated to support PSK but I don't know if this means it supports IKEv1... it imposes a 20 character minimum, and of course, my network admin has configured a PSK shorter than this, so I can't test it. I agree with the sentiments expressed above that removing support for an exceedingly common (if not best-practice) VPN configuration does not create the best impression of Ubuntu. RedHat has retained support via the NetworkManager-libreswan plugin as described in the page below. https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en- US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/7/html/Security_Guide/sec- Securing_Virtual_Private_Networks.html Sadly, Debian still has libreswan in the "experimental" section. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1457078 Title: L2TP client support for PSK removed from 15.04/15.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-strongswan/+bug/1457078/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1625828] [NEW] Enforced PSK length >= 20
Public bug reported: As per #1578193, the NetworkManager package has been broken until recently fixed in version 1.4.0 Installed the PPA packages from Ryan Harper. This seems to restore NM support. Hooray! However, the code enforces a PSK length of 20 or greater when using PSK + XAuth. It's not even clear if the code supports IKEv1 via the GUI. The only other package in the central repo with support for IKEv1 now that OpenSwan (or LibreSwan?) has been replaced is ShrewSoft VPN client (ike and ike-qtgui) - which does not integrate with NetworkManager (instead, it overwrites /etc/resolv.conf and actively interferes with it). As I understand it, the StrongSwan team have a policy of "encouraging" proper, secure VPN configuration, and that weak PSKs are not something they consider /de rigeur/. Both the GUI and backend plugin for NetworkManager enforce a minimum PSK length of 20 characters. Now, I'm all for encouraging secure config. But I'm also all for things being useful. My network administrators have set a PSK with a length lower than this arbitrarily chosen limit. Requests to have the length of it raised will no doubt meet with opposition, principally because it will have to be redistributed to every user. Yes, using PSK with a lot of users is also dumb, I agree. BUT : * Since the retirement of OpenSwan / LibreSwan from Ubuntu there's no NetworkManager support for IKEv1 / PSK / XAuth * Now it's fixed(? - not sure if it supports IKEv1 - I know charon does, but dunno about the NM plugin).. I still can't use it to connect to my work VPN * I don't perceive it as the place of a VPN client to dictate what the proper configuration of a VPN server should be (via the means of getting users to pester their network admin) I therefore consider this arbitrary limit a bug. Relevant revisions imposing this limit in Git are 2b63883dba7ff015ee6a013cf5583ac464509e2c 9e74a0952e27e3ac0055b0831919aaddfef1e1b5 I therefore submit for consideration the notion that these limits should be patched out. ** Affects: network-manager-strongswan (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: ikev1 psk -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1625828 Title: Enforced PSK length >= 20 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-strongswan/+bug/1625828/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1314113] Re: TLS 1.1 and 1.2 are disabled by default
Reading the OpenJDK 7 code ; offhand, I can't find a way to do this comprehensively via configuration. The Oracle response to the CVE for Poodle : http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/documentation/cve-2014-3566-2342133.html * They've disabled SSL v3.0 - this is consistent with what I see in my current OpenJDK * They recommend setting the system property "https.protocols" - AFAICT this only affects sockets created using the URL class. * Indeed : "There is no general System or Security property to disable a specific protocol for applications using the javax.net.ssl.SSLSocket and javax.net.ssl.SSLEngine APIs (See below for one exception on the JDK 8 client side.)" * There is a mechanism for doing this globally at the class that determines the enabled protocol set by setting a system property in OpenJDK 8, but not 7 This is a PITA for clients that use e.g. Apache HttpClient and don't use the URL class ; such clients will have to be rewritten to manipulate the socket and call it's .getEnabledProtocols() method. This SO question seems to cover it from the POV of HttpClient 3.x : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/32587141/how-to-force-commons- httpclient-3-1-to-use-tls-1-2-only-for-https The overall best solution to this seems to be : upgrade to OpenJDK8, which has TLSv1.2 enabled by default. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1314113 Title: TLS 1.1 and 1.2 are disabled by default To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openjdk-7/+bug/1314113/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1407998] [NEW] randomsound should be able to use Pulseaudio for input
Public bug reported: Basically all the other bugs on this package are to do with randomsound being an ALSA program. This means it blocks the audio device. Even with the workarounds like starting it after pulseaudio starts, it blocks the mike and renders it useless for other programs. If it could use Pulseaudio for input, it would no longer be a problem. Not sure if this causes problems (randomsound is a system daemon.. is Pulseaudio a user process?) In my case : the workaround is to not allow it to start at boot sudo update-rc.d -f randomsound remove .. and only start it when I know I'll be depleting the entropy pool. [Bug 1359078] Re: package openjdk-7-jdk 7u55-2.4.7-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-i386/src.zip', which is also in package openjdk-7-source 7u55-2.
So, the packaging situation is a bit muddy here. I have previously manually created a softlink from /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64/src/zip - ../java-7-openjdk-i386/src/zip Because the source package (which is basically necessary for a useful debugging environment in Eclipse, etc), puts the archive in the i386 folder... even through source is platform-independent. Eclipse expects to find src.zip in the root of the JDK by default, hence the softlink. Also submitted bugs to the effect that the packaging should change to put the source in a platform-independant location and softlink to the archive in the appropriate platform-dependent locations. Perhaps a half-baked version of this is what's occurring. I note the new folder `openjdk-7` is now the new location of the src.zip archive and there is an appropriate softlink in the amd64 folder. Inspecting the packages... openjdk-7-jdk : This package now includes /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64/src.zip (a link to the source) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1359078 Title: package openjdk-7-jdk 7u55-2.4.7-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-i386/src.zip', which is also in package openjdk-7-source 7u55-2.4.7-1ubuntu1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openjdk-7/+bug/1359078/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Confirmed that this happens when you have no internet connection (installing on a VirtualBox VM on a host stuck behind a proxy). * Get to Ubuntu One stage * Lack of connection detected correctly * Continue greyed out * Click Login Later - nothing happens * No disk or network activity (for some reason the USB activity lamp on the VM flashes a lot at this point even though there are no USB devices connected) Also confirmed that workaround described in #16 seems to work - if you use the manual partitioning wizard, create and format an ext4 partition for /, clicking Login later works - the continue button is ungreyed but you don't have to click it because the installer then continues. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1240683 Title: Ubuntu one login during install hangs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1240683/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1208019] Re: Eclipse menus doesn't show up in Saucy
Revisiting this : I don't see this behaviour with Inkscape or with GIMP. I still see this with Eclipse 4.3 The behaviour almost looks like the menu is being drawn behind the application window, but that could just be a product of the code flow mentioned above. See attached image : the top of the menu visible in the menu bar area has been drawn, along with some of the menu spilling into the application window, but this seems to have stopped short of rendering the whole menu. [Bug 618587] Re: eclipse does not work with appmenu
Reading the above, I get the impression that the blacklisting does not get undone because the menu still doesn't work perfectly. I hacked my library as described in #46 above, then tried out Indigo. The menu seems to integrate into the global menu bar and into the HUD menu. * Shortcut keys don't work I did a brief experiment ; alt+key seems to open the top level menu, and then a shortcut key without alt will select the relevant menu item. This also works for nested menu items. This appears to behave no differently to the normal SWT shell menu. So I'm not sure what the issue is here.. * Arrow keys don't work properly Navigating into submenus with arrow keys doesn't seem to work properly. The first keypress is consumed and the highlight remains in the parent menu. The second keypress seems to work. This fault is not mentioned above, this is just something that I have noticed today while experimenting. This is of a lesser concern to me because I rarely navigate menus with arrow keys any more - especially the gargantuan menus that Eclipse has. * Dynamically constructed menus don't work properly The comments above seem to indicate that this is fixed. It seems what really needs to happen is for someone in the Eclipse packaging team, or someone trusted by the Eclipse packaging team, to perform the hack above, test the menu (to their satisfaction). Since I was able to find one (apparently previously undiscovered) bug in the menu after about 2 minutes of testing, this would seem to require work to fix. Although the problem I found doesn't affect me because of my menu use, I know that it will inevitably annoy someone. I can see why libappmenu doesn't read it's blacklist from a config file - because previously blacklisted apps might remain blacklisted, even after problems were fixed and removed from the list, because config files could remain. Instead, how about a whitelist as a config file ; those of us who want to accept the minor problems that using the global menu produces can override the blacklist, and should the problems be fixed and the internal blacklist entry be removed, we will be unaffected (apart from things working better), while everyone else gains another app that works with global menus. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/618587 Title: eclipse does not work with appmenu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/appmenu-gtk/+bug/618587/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 937965] Re: Eclipse does not support Unity's GlobalMenu
Apparently there are still some small problems with the Eclipse menus when using the global menu, but my personal opinion is that they are small enough to ignore for many use profiles. Since the only way to change the blacklist in appmenu is currently to rebuild the package or use an editor to fiddle with it's internal string resources, it would be nice to have a whitelist config file that could be used to override the blacklist. If nothing else, this would actually permit testing of the Eclipse menus in the global menubar for the average mortal. [Bug 999125] [NEW] nouveau module constantly polls i2c, consumes CPU, on unused nvidia / Optimus
Public bug reported: First noticed symptom ; lagging keyboard, pausing audio. Viewing processes in top / system monitor revealed that a kworker process was spiking the CPU every ~10s perf-top on the affected process output below Amateur opinion : Looks like nouveau module is constantly polling hardware via I2C bus, most of the time being spent spinning the CPU while waiting for the slow I2C bus to complete data transfers. This causes symptoms in whatever other modules happen to have landed in the same kworker process ; a reboot cleared up the keyboard lag. [Bug 919194] [NEW] Unity launcher menus get stuck if opened during workspace transition
Public bug reported: If you right click on a launcher icon while a workspace transition is in progress, the menu will be stuck open, and unresponsive. Reproduce : * Open an application. * Move your workspace viewpoint to another workspace * The following steps should be done rapidly, immediately after one another * Left click on the application icon in the launcher * While the workspace is still scrolling, right click on the application icon This causes the right click menu to open The menu will be unresponsive to the pointer - mouseover will not highlight menu items. etc * Now left-click in the context menu ; this should do nothing * The click will actually pass through to the application beneath it, if there is one The following things will clear the stuck menu : * Switching desktops to the left (but not to the right) * Opening a right-click menu for another launcher item. Keyboard impulses appear to continue to work. ctrl-alt-Up and Down keystrokes will now move the menu highlight around ; this is presumably why switching desktop to the left (ctrl-alt-Left) closes the menu. [Bug 42629] Re: EOG crashes on SVG images created with OpenOffice.org Draw
I ran into this one with some SVG images generated by graphviz from dot files. My problem was even more extreme ; the entire X server crashed, taking my session and all my open applications with it. IMHO that makes it more than a minor bug - anything that can crash your X server can cause you to lose significant amounts of work. This happens reliably on both SVG and PNG images generated by the dot utility from the same file. The image is 4344x11893 pixels. The SVG will open harmlessly in Inkscape. The PNG opens harmlessly in GIMP. The thumbnail generator in nautilus creates a thumbnail for both without causing problems. Therefore I'm inclined to blame eog for the problem. In addition this seems to be mixed in behaviour. If I close a panel application and reopen it, a menu which previously exhibited the bug is replaced by one that works, sat next to icons with bugged menus. One can rake across from a menu in this working state to the other menus to open them, and they remain open. [Bug 873187] Re: Eclipse does not include the relevant software plugin repository
The underlying problems here appear to be * The repository list in the /usr/bin/eclipse startup script is still that for Helios, but the release for Oneiric has been updated to Indigo * The repo injection functions in the script are broken If there's no .eclipse folder the startup script executes this command which creates it and pre-fills it /usr/lib/eclipse/eclipse -clean -initialize It then hunts for the settings files governing p2 repositories so it can inject some extra entries. The find commands in the script now locate 2 paths rather than one, then tests the string of two paths to see if it's a file ; it isn't, it's a list of two paths. Thus it fails to inject entries into the config. e.g. for metadata, one set of settings in ~/.eclipse/org.eclipse.platform_3.7.0_155965261/p2/org.eclipse.equinox.p2.engine/.settings/org.eclipse.equinox.p2.metadata.repository.prefs And one here ~/.eclipse/org.eclipse.platform_3.7.0_155965261/p2/org.eclipse.equinox.p2.engine/profileRegistry/PlatformProfile.profile/.data/.settings/org.eclipse.equinox.p2.metadata.repository.prefs The latter file appears to be the correct one for the metadata ; this is where eclipse stores any update sites you add for yourself. The default files in the PlatformProfile.profile folder as created by this command appear to contain the Helios update sites as well ; and also references to the Galileo repositories (3.5). I'd be surprised if that were correct - these files look like they could do with a good cleanout. Since the way they are generated is hidden in the eclipse implementation, I'm not sure what contributes to their content. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/873187 Title: Eclipse does not include the relevant software plugin repository To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eclipse/+bug/873187/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 769277] Re: Eclipse shows overlay scrollbar but when i hover there is no scroll handles
Agreed - as mentioned in my comment on #779416 reproduced above in comment #51 ; The overlay scrollbar works just fine with Galileo on Natty, provided you remove this environment variable from the startup script. GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=true This was originally a workaround for the problems mentioned in #443004 (and it's many dupes). As far as possible, I've tested for these problems and they no longer seem to occur. It would seem the original GTK bug that caused these problems has been resolved. I REALLY LIKE the new scrollbars for Eclipse - because it has so many panels, overlay scrollbars mean you gain quite a lot of space that would otherwise just be full of scrollbar obscuring useful information. I was annoyed when I tried out Eclipse on Oneiric and discoverer that it's been blacklisted for the scrollbars. Please * Don't blacklist Eclipse for the overlay scrollbars - they work just fine IF you do the next thing * Remove the GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=true variable from the startup script on Natty (and other supported revisions) ** I note that on Oneiric, the startup script for Eclipse has been replaced by the normal Eclipse binary loader. I think this is why the Oneiric release of Eclipse sees the return of the main major annoyance with Eclipse on Ubuntu - no update sites configured. But that's a job for another bug. [Bug 781180] Re: gvim loses menu with Unity interface
This only occurs when you start gvim from a terminal. If you start gvim from the Unity interface, or from Nautilus, the menu appears correctly. As stated elsewhere, if you start gvim in the foreground, this doesn't happen either. Presume that what is happening is that the unity menu is attempting to bind to the initially started process, but instead should be binding to the process that gvim forks when you run it from the terminal. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/781180 Title: gvim loses menu with Unity interface To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vim/+bug/781180/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
