[Bug 1894166] [NEW] libasan missing debug symbols break debugging
Public bug reported: By default, all symbols are missing from libasan binary that is installed with this package. This, among other things, effectively breaks debugging with gdb (and LLDB , but that doesn't matter). To be able to catch ASAN errors in GDB , one would break on "__sanitizer::Die" and go from there, but without symbols, this won't work. Other tools rely on symbol lookups to determine instrumentation presence , which would fail in this case as well. For example, without libasan5-dbgsym installed: (gdb) break __sanitizer::Die Function "__sanitizer::Die" not defined. Make breakpoint pending on future shared library load? (y or [n]) y Breakpoint 1 (__sanitizer::Die) pending. (gdb) r ... ASAN REPORT ... ==1802381==ABORTING [Inferior 1 (process 1802381) exited with code 01] However, with libasan5-dbgsym installed: (gdb) break __sanitizer::Die Breakpoint 1 at 0x776bc200: file ../../../../src/libsanitizer/sanitizer_common/sanitizer_termination.cc, line 49. (gdb) r ... ASAN REPORT ... ==1805058==ABORTING Breakpoint 1, __sanitizer::Die () at ../../../../src/libsanitizer/sanitizer_common/sanitizer_termination.cc:49 49 ../../../../src/libsanitizer/sanitizer_common/sanitizer_termination.cc: No such file or directory. Since AddressSanitizer is primarily used for debugging anyway, would it make sense to have libasan with symbols by default? ** Affects: gcc-9 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1894166 Title: libasan missing debug symbols break debugging To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-9/+bug/1894166/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1894159] [NEW] lldb API uses wrong executable filename
Public bug reported: I've noticed that some of my debugging scripts that use lldb to launch and debug processes don't work and hang indefinitely on Ubuntu Focal with latest llvm toolchain installed. The culprit is the fact that lldb API tries to launch a binary named "lldb-server-10.0.0" which doesn't exist (installing lldb installs lldb- server as a symlink to lldb-server-10 , but not lldb-server-10.0.0). This becomes apparent when logging is enabled for the debugger: 1599167975.387668848 python 0x238adc0 Listener::StartListeningForEvents (broadcaster = 0x236c6f0, mask = 0x00020004) acquired_mask = 0x00020004 for lldb.process.gdb-remote.async-listener 1599167975.387677193 python successfully created process 1599167975.387685061 python setting up hijacker 1599167975.387690544 python 0x238b500 Listener::Listener('lldb.PlatformLinux.DebugProcess.hijack') 1599167975.387698174 python 0x02369F20 Broadcaster("lldb.process")::HijackBroadcaster (listener("lldb.PlatformLinux.DebugProcess.hijack")=0x0238B500) 1599167975.387704611 python launching process with the following file actions: 1599167975.387755871 python 0x0236C170 Communication::Disconnect () 1599167975.387762785 python Process::SetPublicState (state = launching, restarted = 0) 1599167975.387876272 python shlib dir -> `/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/` 1599167975.387891054 python HostInfo::ComputePathRelativeToLibrary() attempting to derive the path /bin relative to liblldb install path: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu 1599167975.387899160 python HostInfo::ComputePathRelativeToLibrary() derived the path as: /usr/lib/bin 1599167975.387925148 python support exe dir -> `/usr/bin/` 1599167975.387954235 python process launch failed: unable to locate lldb-server-10.0.0 This issue is simply resolved by making yet another symlink to lldb-server to point to lldb-server-10.0.0 but without logging enabled, it isn't obvious where the problem is. This behavior can be observed by executing the attached python script (slightly modified lldb example from https://lldb.llvm.org/use/python- reference.html). Expected behavior is that breakpoint is set and hit, but due to missing lldb-server-10.0.0 binary, the process is never launched. ** Affects: llvm-toolchain-10 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "sample script that demonstrates the issue" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1894159/+attachment/5407505/+files/test.py -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1894159 Title: lldb API uses wrong executable filename To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/llvm-toolchain-10/+bug/1894159/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: The problem happens on a freshly installed Ubuntu 18.04. On first boot after reinstall, the state of pavucontrol and Ubuntu's sound settings is as shown in the attachment 1.png When I change HDA-Audio Generic to Analog Stereo Duplex in pavucontrol, the state is as shown in the attachment 2.png and I still don't have sound on Front One workaround about this is to use pavucontrol to change the port to Headpones in Output Devices tab, as shown in attachment 3.png, and the Front will output sound. The problem is I have to change to Headphones in Output Devices every time I boot the system. [Bug 1681918] Re: GNOME Tweak Tool disables all extensions when removing one extension
This might possibly need to be the highest priority. Same thing happens on a fresh Ubuntu GNOME zesty installation (see the attachment). I thought that installing a new one might be a good workaround, so I went to extensions.gnome.org, picked a random extension, and installed it. [Bug 1655177] [NEW] Impossible to search for apps using onboard virtual keyboard
Public bug reported: It is impossible to search for apps using the `onboard` package and its virtual keyboard. Because it's... well, a keyboard on a screen, as soon as the first key is pressed, Slingshot registers it as the key outside of the window and closes itself. Unfortunately, this means that the search functionality is completely useless on any sort of touchscreen devices. I've tried (and succeeding) in replicating this by opening the Slingshot both through Wingpanel and through a Meta + Space keyboard shortcut and then doing the following: 1. Touching on a button on a screen. 2. Using the touchpad to navigate to some key on the keyboard and touching it (which means that this issue is easily reproducible on non-touchscreen devices). In both of these cases, Slingshot closed. Now, I have absolutely no proposal for the fix, but I think that this is a non-expected feature for a touchscreen device niche. ** Affects: slingshot Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: touch ** Also affects: onboard (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** No longer affects: onboard (Ubuntu) ** Description changed: It is impossible to search for apps using the `onboard` package and its virtual keyboard. [Bug 1567219]
(In reply to Ivo Raisr from comment #31) Thank You for reviewing. I have fixed all things that you mention. The full patch is attached, and the new version of tests is also attached. > 2) When including "tinfl.c", do we want to define "TINFL_HEADER_FILE_ONLY"? > 20) I don't see any coregrind/Makefile changes to build m_debuginfo/tinfl.c? In case we use #include "tinfl.c" without defining TINFL_HEADER_FILE_ONLY, we don't need tinfl.c in Makefile. If we include header only (by defining TINFL_HEADER_FILE_ONLY before #include) then tinfl.c needs to be compiled separately (this solution is applied in rev2 patch). > 5) CEnt.data has now non-fixed size. Why CACHE_ENTRY_SIZE is still used in > various places > around image.c; for example in alloc_CEnt() and realloc_CEnt()? CACHE_ENTRY_SIZE is still in use as default (and minimal) size of cache entry. Larger entries will be allocated in case size of the uncompressed data is grater than CACHE_ENTRY_SIZE. > However I don't have any system with toolchain supporting '-gz' at hand. > I assume you tested on MIPS. [Bug 1567219]
Thank you for suggestions. I've prepared few patches: ElfXX_Chdr-build-fixup.diff - tinfl is moved to m_debuginfo, checking for Elf32/64_Chdr structs is placed into "configure" and line endings in tinfl.c are converted to Unix style. Elf32/64_Chdr, SHF_COMPRESSED and ELFCOMPRESS_ZLIB come from libc () and exist only in newer versions of libc. These structures/constants are not present in Kernel, so I didn't move them to vki. We can place them to separate header or pub_tool_libcbase.h, if you think it's more appropriate. zdebug-support.diff - support for .zdebug sections is added to readelf.c. Three kinds of compressed debug sections are supported by Binutils 2.26 (zlib, zlib-gnu and zlib-gabi) and I have tested Valgrind with all of them on MIPS/X86 Linux. According to the manual (https://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc/Debugging- Options.html), GCC should support -gz=zlib and -gz=zlib-gnu options for generating compressed debug sections, but I haven't succeeded to set up the environment in which it works. I've written two simple Memchek tests (compressed_sections_test.diff) which use these options, but they are not tested properly. The order of applying patches (after applying compressed-dwarf- support.diff and tinfl-modifications.diff) : patch -p1 < ElfXX_Chdr-build-fixup.diff patch -p1 < zdebug-support.diff patch -p1 < compressed_sections_test.diff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1567219 Title: Valgrind does not support compressed debug info To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-z-systems/+bug/1567219/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1037134] [NEW] Variable wait when going out of suspend using xfce/xubuntu
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS xfce/xubuntu What happened is for a long time I had an issue that when I want to work on always on computer and I want to get the screen, the screen would be black with one line on top (with time) somewhat available and mouse would be working but nothing else. The time of the wait would depend how long I didn't use the machine. If I login for another machine and do top I would see that CPU is being used to process something graphical. I was able to fix the bug when playing with screen saver controls. Even though I was running xfce/xubuntu gnome screen saver was active and making problems and ubuntu offer to kill gnome screen saver which I accepted. [Bug 1016962] [NEW] MakeProjectCreator fails for projects based on taoidldefaults
Public bug reported: It appears that this is build and packaging issue inherited from Debian. Package tao-idl puts binary tao_idl into /usr/lib/ace/TAO and then provides the script in /usr/bin/tao_idl with the following content: --- #!/bin/sh ACE_ROOT=/usr/lib/ace; export ACE_ROOT; TAO_ROOT=$ACE_ROOT/TAO; export TAO_ROOT; exec $TAO_ROOT/tao_idl $@ --- This should work. I am guessing that this specific Debian/Ubuntu tao_idl location was not specified during the ACE+TAO build, and MakeProjectCreator TAO infrastructure still expects to find tao_idl in its default location: ${ACE_ROOT}/bin/tao_idl. If I am not mistaken, this in file /usr/lib/ace/TAO/MPC/config/taobaseidldefaults.mpb, the following line is the root cause of my problem: tao_idl = $(ACE_ROOT)/bin/tao_idl The resulting GNUmakefile tries to symlink /usr/lib/ace/bin/tao_idl and, of course, fails, as the correct location is /usr/lib/ace/TAO/tao_idl I can not be sure what is the best way to fix this. If Debian/Ubuntu are insisting on keeping tao_idl in /usr/bin/ace/TAO, then a proper solution might be to use technique for cross-compilation of the ACE+TAO, where tai_idl is built first, placed into the desired spot, and then in second iteration that location is passed to ACE+TAO build, ensuring proper position of tao_idl. The problem can be reproduced by attempting to compile any TAO example with the following line in its *.mpc : -- project(*idl): taoidldefaults { -- ** Affects: ace (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1016962 Title: MakeProjectCreator fails for projects based on taoidldefaults To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ace/+bug/1016962/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 194925] Re: I can't mute fully.
Hello 龚韬, Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, I noticed that you said ...and there is no longer any sound after you said you muted. However, when you put electronic devices near your speakers, they made sounds. I'm curious as to what kind of sounds they made. Electronic devices, especially those with some sort of receiver (like cell phones, radios) make speakers give off sounds when in close proximity. So I fear this isn't a bug at all. Please describe the other devices you put near your speakers, and the kind of sound you heard. The first link on google gave me this: http://www.mentalfloss.com/blogs/archives/10300 . Tell me if that's what you're experiencing, because that happens with all speakers. -- I can't mute fully. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/194925 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 106361] KDesktop freezes when NFS-mount-point computer gets disconnected
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdesktop When you get a NFS mount-point mounted in /media/network (i.e.) (the mount-point is in /etc/fstab to get automatically mounted) and when the user turns off his computer without telling you about that (he shouldn't anyway) without you manually unmount the mountpoint, KDesktop freezes and if it doesn't the media:/ lists nothing. To reproduce the bug, mount a nfs share located somewhere on the LAN, say 192.168.0.12:/home/user/ $ mount 192.168.0.12:/home/user/ /media/network $ Write a line for that share in /etc/fstab: 192.168.0.12:/home/user/media/network nfs auto,user,rw0 0 Now, go to media:/ and checkout the content of the sharepoint. Then turn off the computer that's been mounted, or ask the owner to restart it/shut it down. Go to Konqueror - media:/ or try to access the mountpoint via the Icon that automatically appears on the Desktop. Kaboom! KDesktop freezes or media:/ lists nothing.
