[Bug 1872950] Re: Nvidia 340.108 fails to install with kernels 5.5 onward

2020-11-17 Thread Alexander Eifler
Hello,

thank you for releasing the Bugfix 340.108-0ubuntu5.20.10.2. I have
tested it on my system and it works fine! I have installed this package
via the proposed way:

* "Enabling Pre-released updates" in the developers tab
* Activate the Nvidia-Driver in the "Additional Drivers" section

My System:

* GT218M (GeForce G 105M)
* Ubuntu 20.04
* uname -a: Linux eifx-laptop 5.8.0-29-generic #31-Ubuntu SMP Fri Nov 6
12:37:59 UTC 2020 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

[Bug 1637529] Re: Second screen-position sometimes wrong

Maybe useful. Currently, I use the last configuration (Vendor SAM on VGA
and Vendor CMO on LVDS-0)

[Bug 1637529] [NEW] Second screen-position sometimes wrong

2016-10-28 Thread Alexander Eifler
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 16.10, unity 7.5.0+16.10.20160906.1-0ubuntu1

My physical destop situation:
I have a notebook with an external monitor on my left side. The monitor is
connected via VGA.

Configuration:
I've configured, that my desktop should be expand on the left side. This works
fine.

Problem:
If I boot Ubuntu with my plugged-in external monitor, everything works fine,
the second screen is appended to the left side.
If I boot Ubuntu without my plugged-in external monitor and later, I plug-in
the second monitor, I have to hit a specific shortcut (on my Samsung E271 its
Fn+F4) to search for new plugged in monitors. This works, but the monitor
expand my desktop now on the right side.

Notice:
The shortcut worked on a fresh Ubuntu-Installation without special software
installed afterwards.

[Bug 1190696] Re: updatedb.mlocate uses 100% of the hdd IO. The OS is completely unusable.

2016-05-20 Thread Alexander Eifler
Very usefull comment on askubuntu:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/268130/can-i-disable-updatedb-mlocate

"Edit the file /etc/updatedb.conf and set PRUNEPATHS with the
directories you DO NOT want to search."

I disabled the /mnt for example because there is a mount-point to a
ntfs-device. So, I have now less I/O interactions and, because of the
ntfs-driver, less CPU interactions.

My notice: Have a look to PRUNEPATHS and disable mount-points or large
directories with no interesting content (maybe large git or svn dirs or
so)
