[Bug 611983] Re: Evolution [Open Link In Browser] not working for new eBay email hyperlinks
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 149964 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/149964 I wonder if I am missing something obvious here ?. Can anyone tell me WHY my two example hyperlinks behave differently, as they both look identical but just expressed differently. So the hyperlink that works (expressed using ESCAPE codes) - http://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/e11021.m45.l1123/7?euid=5352848142992251064loc=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.co.uk%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D150472423977%26ssPageName%3DADME%3AB%3ASS%3AGB%3A1123 And the hyperlink that fails (expressed using ASCII characters) - http://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/e11021.m45.l1123/7?euid=5352848142992251064loc=http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemitem=150472423977ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:GB:1123 But if you manually translate all the ESCAPE characters from the first example, then you end up with the second example ! -- Evolution [Open Link In Browser] not working for new eBay email hyperlinks https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/611983 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 611983] Re: Evolution [Open Link In Browser] not working for new eBay email hyperlinks
A very unhelpful update from eBay customer support - I have noticed that you're currently using a Linux as your operating system. As of now, the recommended operating system that can support eBay functions are Microsoft Windows and Macintosh. This is the reason why some hyperlinks can't be processed by your email client because when using a different operating system like Linux, other eBay functions may not be supported. I suggest that you use the supported operating systems when using eBay to ensure proper functionality of the site. For me, changing to Windows is NEVER going to happen, I just need Evolution fixed as it is obvious that eBay are not going to be any help ! -- Evolution [Open Link In Browser] not working for new eBay email hyperlinks https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/611983 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 611983] [NEW] Evolution [Open Link In Browser] not working for new eBay email hyperlinks
Public bug reported: I am running the following - Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04 + Firefox 3.6.8 + Evolution 2.28.3 On the 26th July 2010, eBay (in their wisdom !) changed the structure of their notification emails, unfortunately since this change I have been unable (in Evolution mail) to click on the hyperlinks back to the eBay website without the resulting eBay web page showing a variety of errors. Before this issue arose, the eBay email hyperlinks had the structure such as - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemitem=290457755810ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:GB:1123 and Evolution still opens these links correctly. After the eBay change the links look like - http://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/e11021.m45.l1123/7?euid=5352848142992251064loc=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.co.uk%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D150472423977%26ssPageName%3DADME%3AB%3ASS%3AGB%3A1123 -now if within Evolution I hover over the hyperlink and select [Copy Link Location], then paste the result in Firefox, then I get the result I would expect. HOWEVER if in the same link I try to either [Open Link In Browser], or simply double clicking the mouse to open the link into Firefox, then the URL that Firefox receives looks like - http://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/e11021.m45.l1123/7?euid=5352848142992251064loc=http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemitem=150472423977ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:GB:1123 - which turns out to be invalid ! What can I do to get Evolution to send the correct form of the URL to Firefox ? - or is this an Evolution bug. There has been a short discussion on the possible cause of this problem here - https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+question/119395 and the proposed solution from that link says - I see your problem now. Seems that evolution is decoding the escape codes (%3A, %2F, etc) that are present in the original URL, but the application on eBay needs those escape codes intact. Maybe it is an Evolution bug, as it should not alter the URL while sending it to Firefox. I checked the evolution source code: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/e/evolution/evolution_2.28.3.orig.tar.gz Inside e-util/e-util.c file, there is a function e_show_uri(). Before it passes the URL to Firefox, it removes the escape codes by calling camel_url_decode(): http://library.gnome.org/devel/camel/stable/camel-camel-url.html #camel-url-decode So I think you really should open an evolution bug and see if anyone can come with an explanation for this behavior. ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Evolution [Open Link In Browser] not working for new eBay email hyperlinks https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/611983 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 360460] Re: Alternate install fails requesting same disc
Despite the fact that this problem appears to be related to Sony/NEC/Optiarc drives, this is unlikely to be a hardware bug (as jrippy suggested), because the Ubuntu Alternate install always used to work with these same optical drives, UNTIL something changed between 8.04(Hardy) and 8.10(Intrepid) - as I documented in duplicate bug #351053. You can prove it by installing alternate 8.04 (or any previous version) and it works fine. I ended up installing 8.04 then did repeated upgrades to keep up with the current release ! -- Alternate install fails requesting same disc https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/360460 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 351053] Re: Alternate install hangs requesting jaunty CD
I am having similar difficulties with Jaunty 9.04 beta alternate i386 CD install. I can successfully go through all the following installation stages - Selected language Selected keyboard layout Detecting hardware Loaded additional components Configured network Partitioned disks BUT during the phase - Installing the base system it gets as far as - 76% Gathering information for installation report... Then a window pops up showing the following - --- [!!] Install the base system Please insert the disc labeled: 'Ubuntu 9.04 _Jaunty Jackalope_ - Beta i386 (20090324)' in the drive '/cdrom/' and press enter. Media change Go Back Continue --- At this point I can toggle between Go Back and Continue, but neither option can be selected. In addition the eject button on the CD drive has become disabled, so I was unable to eject and reinsert the disc (to see if the installation would continue !). I have repeated the above process several times, each time with more simple configurations, but each time the same result occurs. I have checked the MD5SUM of the .iso before burning the disk. I ran the Check disc for defects from Installer boot menu and got - The CD-ROM integrity test was successful. The CD-ROM is valid I ran the Test memory and found no errors after 3 full passes. My hardware is as follows - Motherboard = Via EPIA 5000 C3 Samuel2 PLE133 533MHz, BIOS 2.07 Memory = 2 * 512MB PC133 HDD = WDC WD800BB 80GB PATA CD drive = NEC DVD-RW ND-4551A Before attempting a clean install of Ubuntu 9.04 Beta (Jaunty), this hardware had been running fully updated Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid) without any problems. The CD drive is also known to work as it had been used in the past few days to install previous versions of Ubuntu, including alternate versions 7.04 and 8.04. -- Alternate install hangs requesting jaunty CD https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/351053 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 351053] Re: Alternate install hangs requesting jaunty CD

[Bug 351053] Re: Alternate install hangs requesting jaunty CD
With the aim of getting my hardware running with Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) beta, and having failed with the clean install from the i386 alternate CD, I followed the process below, which lead to an error message which MIGHT be related to the Jaunty alternate CD install error described above. So here goes - I first did a clean install of Ubuntu 8.04.1 LTS using the i386 alternate CD. - no problems. Rebooted - no problems. Immediately ran update-manager -d to force a distribution upgrade from the internet. Followed on screen prompts and upgraded to 8.10 - without any problems. Rebooted - no problems. Decided to insert the problematic Jaunty beta alternate CD (used above), and see what happens. Followed the prompts and started a distribution upgrade from CD and selecting NOT to get updates from internet (to test what was supplied on the problematic CD - as any internet updates may have otherwise masked possible issues with the CD). This seemed to go well for a long while, but eventually a window appeared saying - Could not install '/media/cdrom0//pool/main/e/evolution/evolution-documentation-en_2.26.0-0ubuntu2_all.deb' The upgrade will continue but the '/media/cdrom0//pool/main/e/evolution /evolution-documentation-en_2.26.0-0ubuntu2_all.deb' package may be in a not working state. Please consider submitting a bug report about it. subprocess dpkg-split returned error exit status 2 Having closed this error message, the upgrade has continued for at least an hour so far, without further problems (yet !). Only another 1 hour and 27 minutes to go !!! - yes it takes a long time on a 533MHz CPU optimised for low power consumption ! -- Alternate install hangs requesting jaunty CD https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/351053 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
