[Bug 1928490] [NEW] "Could not create MokListRT" message on boot

2021-05-14 Thread Antony
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I upgraded to Kubuntu 21.04 from Kubuntu 20.10.

Since the upgrade, every time I boot, I receive two lines of text before
the grub menu shows up, saying "Failed. to set MokListRT: Not enough
resources", "Could not create MokListRT: Not enough resources".

The OS boots and works without problem. But every time I get this
messages while bootup which used to be not the case with 20.10.

[Bug 1922782] [NEW] MAAS PXE Boot stalls with Grub 2.04 and Broadcom NICs

2021-04-06 Thread Antony Messerli
Public bug reported:

Environment:

MAAS version (SNAP):

2.9/stable: 2.9.2-9164-g.ac176b5c42021-02-17 (11851) 150MB
Grub package_version=2.04-1ubuntu26.9 from ephermeral-v3 maas images

Servers
Dell R7525 configured in UEFI mode with both:
Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet BCM5720
Broadcom Adv. Dual 10GBASE-T Ethernet BCM57416

Problem description:

On commissioning of a new node, the server retrieves bootx64.efi from
the MAAS server, loads grubx64.efi and then hangs at Booting under MAAS
direction... Because it's getting this far, it's loaded Grub and a
configuration at this point.

I increased the timeout from 0 to 10 in the MAAS code so that I could
crack into Grub to debug. Configuration is getting retrieved from MAAS
server so I edited the configuration to do a debug=all and loaded the
configuration.

Logs show that its attempting to load the kernel and initrd but fails
when it was previously able to contact the MAAS server via PXE (sample
of kernel load):

kern/disk.c:196: Opening 'http,10.127.88.10:5248'...
disk/efi/efidisk.c:482: opening http
kern/disk.c:281 Opening 'http,10.127.88.10:5248' failed.
kern/disk.c:295 Closing 'http'.
net/http.c:405: opening path
/images/ubuntu/amd64/hwe-20.04/focal/stable/boot-kernel on host 10.127.88.10

commands/verifiers.c:88: file:
(http,10.127.88.10:5248)/images/ubuntu/amd64/hwe-20.04/focal/stable/boot-kernel
type:3

last debug ends on:

loader/efi/linux.c:96: kernel_addr: 0x1000 handover_offset: 0x190
params: 0x3d6e1000

If I switch to Intel NICs in the server, this issue does not occur. We
are wondering if it may be BCM5720 and PCI-e Gen 4 related as we have
the BCM5720 NICs in Dell R720s with PCI-e Gen 3 and they can commission
properly.

I have seen mention of some newer versions of Grub that may solve some
HTTP boot issues, but they have not made their way into MAAS yet. If
there are good ways to build those bootloaders that would align to how
MAAS builds them for their images and test them, I can try and test them
in my environment to see if they resolve the issue.

[Bug 1868551] Re: Intel GPU Hangs : random screen freezing w/ Ubuntu 20.04 (Linux 5.4) i915_active_acquire

2020-05-01 Thread Antony Jones
Tried the kernel by @lordbaco in #33 and it doesn't improve anything,
just in case it's useful.

My machine freezes up after a few hours, usually at a point where the
fans start to spin up under load. 2-3 times a day.

The symptoms are that the cursor starts to lag, massively, and the whole
machine gets less and less responsive until it freezes.

I didn't have any luck with the kernel in #40 as it wouldn't boot for
me. If you have any pointers to booting with it then I'll happily try.

I'm not seeing the error messages mentioned by anybody else in this
thread.

[Bug 1835891] [NEW] [wishlist] CONFIG_XFRM_MIGRATE=y

2019-07-09 Thread Antony Antony
Public bug reported:

This is a new feature request, Ubuntu linux, kernel, package.
Description:Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS
Release:18.04
Ubuntu 4.15.0-36.39-generic 4.15.18

I am adding version information from bionic, it would be nice to be
fixed in the next possible version.

Please enable CONFIG_XFRM_MIGRATE=y in kernel config to supoort IKE (IPsec
mobike).
Libreswan use this kernel feature to support MOBIKE RFC 4555.

conn iphone-psk
  mobike=yes

Error meesage:
ipsec auto --add iphone-psk

036 MOBIKE kernel support missing for netkey interface:
CONFIG_XFRM_MIGRATE && CONFIG_NET_KEY_MIGRATE

FYI:
CONFIG_XFRM_MIGRATE=y in Debian Buster and RHEL, Fedora.

Although the GUI doesn't work for Mutiny, if you want to change layout, you can
use command line as below:
$ mate-tweak --layout mutiny

To switch to Mutiny layout.

[Bug 1784684] Re: Waste padding after PPPoE payload

2018-08-03 Thread Antony Hop
** Description changed:

After a new Kernel e.g. 4.4.0-131 is installed on our Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
clients, unneeded (waste) 14 bytes paddings are unexpectedly present
after PPPoE payload in client's Ethernet frames which are sent towards a
NAS access router. The content of such a waste padding is not all zero
filled bytes, but rather parts of memory, sometimes with readable text.
Thus it is also a security issue. Sometimes the waste padding is more
than 14 bytes. For example, a PPPoED PADI frame (single tagged VLAN)
with text "amf/application/12" (18 bytes) at the end of the frame shown
  as padding in Wireshark:

     ff ff ff ff ff ff 00 0a cd 2a ea 9f 81 00 00 07 ÿÿ..Í*ê.
  0010 88 63 11 09 00 00 00 0c 01 01 00 00 01 03 00 04 .c..

  0030 69 6f 6e 2f 31 32 ion/12

It is a critical bug of Kernel 4.4.0-131.

Some affected client Ethernet frames are large enough (>64 bytes), and
thus they do not need to be padded for Ethernet. Padding should be
included and is required in Ethernet frames only to achieve the minimum
64 byte size of an Ethernet frame sent on wire. For a packet larger than
e.g. 100 bytes no padding is needed in Ethernet frame. However we can
see such 14 Byte paddings also in large client Ethernet frames (in
PPPoE/PPP/IP session packets), with payload size of several hundred
  bytes (200, 300, 400 bytes and more).

Our Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Clients are always updated via apt update / apt
upgrade early enough, after a new Ubuntu update is released in Internet.

Our statistics after analyzing the collected archived pcap traces of our
clients with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and the latest Kernel installed can help

[Bug 1784684] Re: Waste padding after PPPoE payload

2018-08-01 Thread Antony Hop
A second pcap trace (two_packets.pcap) with two Client packets is
attached to this ticket.

The following Client packets in the pcap trace demonstrate the issue
exemplarily:
- PADI frame (PPPoED; Client Ethernet Frame of 87 byte size);
- a session Client packet (Ethernet frame of 473 Byte size).

The both packets are large enough (>64 Bytes) and do not need to be
padded. However a waste 14 byte padding is present after PPPoE payload
in the both packets (Linux kernel bug). One can see the Problem while
displaying and analyzing these packets in Wireshark.

Evaluation of the Ubuntu (kernel) failure:
1. Such 14 Byte paddings included by Ubuntu kernel are waste and not required
by the Ethernet standard.
2. Such incorrect Ethernet Frames from Client can be evaluated as "malformed"
on NAS and thus can be silently dropped by NAS, resulting a critical
connectivity issue in client PPPoE/PPP sessions.

2018-08-01 Thread Antony Hop
The command you requested on a affected Ubuntu 16.04 LTS host cannot be
successfully executed (no connection to the Server):

As we are unable to run this command due to missing direct Internet
access on the affected Ubuntu clients, the bug Status in the ticket will
be manually changed into 'Confirmed'.

[Bug 1784684] [NEW] Waste padding after PPPoE payload

2018-07-31 Thread Antony Hop
Public bug reported:

After a new Kernel e.g. 4.4.0-131 is installed on our Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
clients, unneeded (waste) 14 bytes paddings are unexpectedly present
after PPPoE payload in client's Ethernet frames which are sent towards a
NAS access router. The content of the waste padding is not all zero
filled bytes, but rather parts of memory, sometimes with readable text.
Sometimes the waste padding is more than 14 bytes. For example, a PPPoED
PADI Frame with "amf/application/12" (18 bytes) shown as padding in
Wireshark:

   ff ff ff ff ff ff 00 0a cd 2a ea 9f 81 00 00 07 ÿÿ..Í*ê.
0010 88 63 11 09 00 00 00 0c 01 01 00 00 01 03 00 04 .c..
0020 d9 1f 00 00 61 6d 66 2f 61 70 70 6c 69 63 61 74 Ù...amf/applicat
0030 69 6f 6e 2f 31 32 ion/12

It is a critical bug of Kernel 4.4.0-131 and some previous releases
(since July 2018).

The affected client Ethernet frames are large enough (>64 bytes), and
thus they do not need to be padded. Padding should be included and is
required in Ethernet frames only to achieve the minimum 64 byte size of
an Ethernet frame sent on wire. For a packet larger than e.g. 100 bytes
no padding is needed in Ethernet frame. However we see such 14 Byte
paddings also in large client Ethernet Frames (in PPPoE/PPP/IP session
packets), with payload size of several hundred bytes (200, 300, 400
bytes and more).

Our Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Clients are always updated via apt update / apt
upgrade early enough, after a new Ubuntu update is released in Internet.

Our statistics after analyzing the collected archived pcap traces
(Clients with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and the latest Kernel updates installed)
can help to identify the date when the kernel bug first appeared:

>From 15.Jul.2018 till 29.Jul.2018 - OK, still no waste padding
10.07.2018 - 14 byte padding (PADI etc) - a kernel BUG !
12.07.2018 - 14 byte padding (PADI etc) - a kernel BUG !
13.07.2018 - 14 byte padding (PADI etc) - a kernel BUG !
19.07.2018 - 14 byte padding (PADI etc) - a kernel BUG !

A kernel version affected with this BUG:
@client:~$ uname -a
Linux client 4.4.0-131-generic #157-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jul 12 15:51:36 UTC 2018
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

@client:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 16.04.5 LTS
Release:16.04

The kernel bug does not occur on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Client and waste
paddings (14 byte or 18 byte) are not present in Client frames, if an
old Kernel e.g. 4.4.0-116 (of 12-Feb-2018) is installed on the client
and activated at boot time.

This old kernel 4.4.0-116 is still without the padding bug:
@client:~$ uname -a
Linux client 4.4.0-116-generic #140-Ubuntu SMP Mon Feb 12 21:23:04 UTC 2018
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

A PADI packet with unneeded padding is included as attachment. It was
captured via tcpdump directly on the Ubuntu Client. It is a padding
inserted by Ubuntu, not by ethernet HW or driver. If it were padding
included by Ethernet adapter or driver, we could not capture it on the
same host and we could not see such real padding for this client packet
in Wireshark.

The issue affects both PPPoED client packets (PADI, PADR) and session
PPPoE/PPP/IP client packets. We expect no padding is included after
PPPoE payload in Ethernet Frames if the packets are not small (>64 byte)
and thus are not required to be padded for Ethernet. Such correct
behavior (without waste paddings) can be observed on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
with old Kernel versions released before June 2018, like e.g. 4.4.0-116.

Please implement the fix in the next Kernel update.

[Bug 1722478] Re: Two-finger scrolling no longer works after resuming from suspend

2017-10-31 Thread Ghislain Antony Vaillant
@fgod1983

Download the .deb files for amd64 listed in http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.11.12/. Open a terminal in your download folder
and run `apt install ./linux*4.11.12*.deb`. After the install is
completed, reboot your laptop, and select kernel 4.11.12 in the grub
selection window early in the boot stage. You might have to press the
shift hey to display the kernel selection, which is hidden by default in
Ubuntu (plain purple window at boot).

I suppose I should start at kernel 4.10, since it was working with
kernel 4.9 on Debian Stretch.

No, since xserver-xorg-input-synaptics is not installed by default. Two-

the solution is.

[Bug 1718590] Re: Atom installed as a snap doesn't show up in menus or in the terminal

2017-10-11 Thread Ghislain Antony Vaillant
This issue is not specific to Atom, it affects any GUI application
installed as a snap on a wayland session. I confirmed this with the snap
team in there support channel. It is supposed to be fixed with snapd
version 2.28.

Meanwhile, try logging in with the X session and you will find that the
applications are discoverable there.

[Bug 1722478] [NEW] Two-finger scrolling no longer works with Ubuntu 17.10

2017-10-10 Thread Ghislain Antony Vaillant
Public bug reported:

hardware issues. I have recently installed Ubuntu 17.10 final beta to
test it out, but two-finger scrolling does not work at the moment. It

update broke it.

[Bug 1720520] [NEW] xtightvncviewer hangs when returning from full screen

2017-09-30 Thread Antony-gelberg
Public bug reported:

Running Xubuntu 16.04 on both client and server. Server is a laptop
running `x11vnc -display :0 -forever`. From client, I connect with
`xvncviewer $hostname`. Connects fine, everything works great. Press F8
on client to bring up the pop-up menu, and all options work as expected.
Click on Full screen, and that too works.

However, when I want to get out of full screen mode, I press F8, click
on Full screen again and something hangs. The Full screen option in the
menu disappears, and nothing else works, I'm left staring at the server
screen, but I can't do anything. I can move the mouse pointer which is
now just a dot, but clicking does nothing, and because I was in full
screen, I can't access anything else on the client machine, even via
Alt-Tab.

Changing to the console and killing xvncviewer doesn't help, and in the
end I have to restart xorg. Please let me know if you need more info to
help debug this.
