I encountered a problem while installing linux- headers-3.18.0-031800rc5-generic_3.18.0-031800rc5.201411162035_amd64.deb for v3.18-rc5-vivid (and linux- headers-3.17.2-031702-generic_3.17.2-031702.201410301416_amd64.deb for v3.17.2-vivid). [Bug 1387420] Re: System freezes when performing a backup bash script
Yes, I've only been installing one file for a given kernel version: the generic amd64 image .deb package. That's because the instructions read: To boot into an upstream kernel you only need to download and install the *image*.deb package that corresponds to your architecture. The other files are only mentioned if you need to build any external modules. But now, I will install three files for a given kernel version: the generic amd64 image .deb package the generic amd64 headers .deb package the all headers .deb package I will try v3.17.2-vivid. [Bug 1387420] Re: System freezes when performing a backup bash script
I tried 3.18-rc1. I got the same result as with rc3 and rc4: a black screen. But this time, I also noticed a message quickly flashing (lasting only a second or two): kvm: disabled by bios. So far, I tried: v3.18-rc1-utopic v3.18-rc2-utopic v3.18-rc3-vivid v3.18-rc4-vivid (I didn't try v3.18-rc2-vivid. Joseph Salisbury directed me to v3.18-rc2-utopic.) [Bug 947124] [NEW] Alt+Tab sometimes acts like Alt+(button above Tab)
Public bug reported: Alt+Tab is a keyboard shortcut for switching between applications. Alt+(button above Tab) is a keyboard shortcut for switching between windows of an application. Alt+Tab sometimes acts like Alt+(button above Tab). To reproduce the bug: 1. Open an application (such as Nautilus). 2. Open at least two windows of another application (such as Firefox). 3. Use Alt+(button above Tab) to switch between the windows of the second application (Firefox). 4. Use Alt+Tab to switch back to the first application (Nautilus). At step 4, Alt+Tab does not switch to the first application (Nautilus) as expected. It switches to the previously-used window of the second application (Firefox). This is not a desirable effect. [Bug 730617] Re: When using scale/expose, windows don't keep their order
Yes, it's reproducible. Open a few Firefox windows, and try switching between them. According to my understanding, this can only be done by: (1) Clicking the Firefox icon, or (2) Pressing Alt+Grave while holding on to Alt, and using Grave to select the desired window. Either way, a view shows up, with thumbnails of all the windows, as seen in the screenshot I attached. The problem is that each time a user attempts to do this, the windows get reordered, based on recent usage. The result is not helpful. It would be easier for users to switch between windows if the order maintained itself. ** Attachment added: Screenshot at 2012-02-25 14:56:15.png https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/730617/+attachment/2783138/+files/Screenshot%20at%202012-02-25%2014%3A56%3A15.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/730617 Title: When using scale/expose, windows don't keep their order To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/730617/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 730617] Re: When using scale/expose, windows don't keep their order
Why are the bug statuses marked incomplete? According to the Bugs statuses page in Launchpad Help (https://help.launchpad.net/Bugs/Statuses), [If the status is marked incomplete,] the bug report is incomplete and needs more information before it can be triaged. Bugs in this state are considered for expiry. I would like to change the statuses to confirmed: a member of the community other than the original reporter believes that this report describes a genuine bug in enough detail that a developer could start work on a fix. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/730617 Title: When using scale/expose, windows don't keep their order To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/730617/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 939002] [NEW] Difficulty switching between windows
Public bug reported: To switch between windows of an open application, Unity should have a keyboard shortcut analogous to Super+(1 to 0). Users should also be able to use (some key)+(Right or Left) for the same purpose. Likewise, (some key)+(Up or Down) could be useful for switching between open applications. (An extra key is necessary because the cursor keys are likely to have functionality in the application.) The ordering of the windows should NOT change (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/730617). Unity should somehow allow users to easily change the ordering manually. There should be an alternative to Super+(1 to 0), like Ctrl+(1 to 0). Whenever Super+(1 to 0) is utilized for switching between applications, the launcher appears, which is annoying. An alternative like Ctrl+(1 to 0) would NOT invoke the launcher, but allow the possiblity of doing so [with Super+(1 to 0)] (to review the mapping, of applications to numbers, for example). I also think it would be better if Alt+Tab would ONLY switch between applications, leaving Alt+Grave to do the switching between windows. ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/939002 Title: Difficulty switching between windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/939002/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 823214] Re: window icon is blurred, if it has not desktop file
I am experiencing the same problem with a Java application I am writting. The application icon appears blurred. I tried using the same icon as Firefox, and it still appeared blurred. I attached a screenshot showing the two icons next to each other. In the screenshot, the first Firefox icon belongs to the browser; the second Firefox icon, just below it, belongs to the Java application. They both use the same PNG image, but the icon of the Java application appears blurred. I think it is reasonable to consider the issue a Unity bug. ** Attachment added: Screenshot at 2012-02-13 09:56:32.png https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/823214/+attachment/2736107/+files/Screenshot%20at%202012-02-13%2009%3A56%3A32.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/823214 Title: window icon is blurred, if it has not desktop file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/823214/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 908402] [NEW] LXDE power manager expands panel when connecting/disconnecting power cable
Public bug reported: Xfce4-power-manager 1.0.10 is in the right side of LXPanel (ver. 0.5.8). When connecting and disconnecting the power cable from the netbook (Asus 1001PX), the space between the power manager and its left neighbour increases. This occurs with every connection/disconnection such that the panel expands to reduce the window list (task manager) space. This is reproducible. [Bug 479842] [NEW] Karmic freezes on resume from suspend
Public bug reported: I've upgraded to Karmic from Jaunty a few days ago, and since that resuming from suspend cause trouble. Most of the time, when I close the lid, wait for the laptop (Thinkpad X200s) to suspend and open the lid again, it seems to resume, I see the gnome screensaver password prompt for about a second and then the display changes to tty1 and the system hangs (the suspend led (little moon) is blinking, the keyboard doesn't respond to magic sysrq, no network access to the machine). A hard reboot is the only way to move past it. I've tried looking at log files for errors, but couldn't see anything that looks like something bad is going on. When I suspend using the Fn+F4 key, or by choosing suspend from System-Shutdown-Suspend, I've yet to see this happen (even if I resumed by closing the lid after the suspend and opening it again), tried about 20 times. Re: [Bug 373377] Re: Firefox responds slowly when several tabs are open
Hi Micah, Please find attached my system hw profile. Drivers installed: X.Org X server - Intel i8xx, i9xx ver. 2:2.4.1-1ubuntu10.4 and X.Org X server - i740 ver. 1:1.2.0-1build2 display drivers. I have 20 extensions installed, yet only the Flash Player plugin (Adobe) is responsible for high CPU consumption. I tested this by a series of 'enable-disable' of all extensions, and pinned-down the problem to the Adobe Flash Player plugin. This I observed on other GNU/Linux systems as well. Yet on other systems in which I have Swfdec or Gnash as replacements, Firefox performs smoothly. All my hardware is fully supported by Ubuntu, and drivers are updated and functioning perfectly with all other graphical applications. Aviv. [Bug 381983] [NEW] Jaunty: visual effects setting is not saved after logout
Public bug reported: When starting Ubuntu (normal boot), desktop items are partially hidden under the upper panel. Moving the panel or hiding it does not help, icons are still hidden beneath it, as if screen size is unknown to the system. Any application that I start is also hidden under the upper desktop panel, such that I cannot move it. Nautilus windows lack the upper window border, including the minimize-maximize-close buttons, and I cannot minimize, move or close them. When I change the visual effects to any setting, this resolves the problem temporarily: when I then hide the upper panel, desktop icons assume their normal position. This is maintained until logout. When I log-in again (or re-boot), all is faulty once more. This situation suddenly appeared, such that I cannot link it to any change I made in my system. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Jaunty: visual effects setting is not saved after logout https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/381983 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
