[Bug 2055054] [NEW] package udev 249.11-0ubuntu3.12 failed to install/upgrade: installed udev package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2024-02-26 Thread Barbara Burkhardt
Public bug reported:

Following this problem, the computer can still be used. However, after
the lock screen goes into effect due to inactivity, the following
attempt to login fails. After entering the system password, the screen
just sits there and no login occurs. The only way to get out of this
situation is to powerdown the computer which creates other problems with
files that had remained opened.

[Bug 1879024] [NEW] Error message : "Failed to scan - unable to connect to scanner" when using simple-scan

2020-05-16 Thread Barbara Schulz
Public bug reported:

1) System and program information:
I am using Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and am trying to use the brother printer/scanner
combo MFC-J5910DW in order to scan documents with simple-scan:

simple-scan:
 Installed: 3.36.0-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 3.36.0-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 3.36.0-0ubuntu1 500
500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

2) Description of what I did and what happened:
I downloaded and installed the newest scanner driver deb-packages (2 of them)
from the official brother web-page and installed them using

$ sudo apt-get install ./'sannerdirverfilename'.deb

and there was no error message. So I also installed simple-scan from the
Ubuntu repository using:

$ sudo apt-get install simple-scan

This also worked just fine. But when I now try to use simple-scan, it
doesn't work. I call the program from the terminal command line:

$ simple scan

and it opens an interactive window, searches for a scanner and finds the
brother scanner. But when I then hit the 'scan' button, I get the error
message

"Failed to scan - unable to connect to scanner"

3) Error Log for simple-scan:
So I used simple-scan with the debug option, and here is the log-file:

[Bug 1754462] [NEW] python dependency python-socketio missing from ubuntu

2018-03-08 Thread Barbara
Public bug reported:

The debian package python3-flask-socketio has an runtime dependency on
the python package `python-socketio` (v.1.5+) that is not listed in
https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic/python3-flask-socketio.

# py file is the example in https://github.com/miguelgrinberg/Flask-SocketIO
$ export FLASK_APP=test_flask_socketio.py
$ python3 -m flask run
Traceback (most recent call last):
...
pkg_resources.DistributionNotFound: The 'python-socketio>=1.5.0'
distribution was not found and is required by the application

Confusingly, there is a debian package by the same name which is built from the
python package 'gevent-socketio` (v.0.3.X).

Am I missing something? Is there something else I should be doing (other
than a pip install python-socketio) to get this working?

[Bug 1156189] [NEW] Cannot connect Ubuntu software to Bright House{provider} router

2013-03-17 Thread Barbara Stakk
Public bug reported:

MY service provider (Bright House in Fl.} does not know how to configure
Ubuntu software to connect to the Bright House router so that I can have
my wireless connection back.  It has been down since Feb. 16th {2013}
despite a Linux trained Bright House tech. coming out yesterday to
my home. I've had my wireless functioning just fine since it was
connected 7 months ago by a private computer guy I use, after Bright
House sent out a sub contractor from Knight Interprises who totally
messed up the initial installation and connection by removing some
drivers. My private computer guy has moved away and the guy he
recommended does not solve Ubuntu software wireless connections often
enough to do the job for me. Can you direct me step by step using
really simple, clear instructions to get me connected once again? No-
one knows why it went down, or how to help me. I paid relatively big
bucks to Bright House up front to have life time service calls if needed
at no xtra cost. Help! What do I do now? Any assistance in the right
direction towards solving this mess is greatly appreciated by me. Thank-
you in advance for your time and energy spent . With Gratitude,
Barbara

How can I stop these messages. Every time I want to delete a message

Thanks for the replies.Sorry to be so long but I've been changing
broadband suppliers.
Knowing it was a bug helps. I had this problem with a CD I bought from an
internet dealer and was going to write and ask if they had sold me a copy
cd!

Anyway I found going back to it another time I couod get some track to
work.

Thanks for your advice.

Barbara

I landed here also seeing the bug in Rhythmbox 0.12.8 Ubuntu 10.04.
The only thing that worked for me was logging out of Gnome session.
I imagine this resets all of the nautilus/dbus/gnome plumbing.

[Bug 644216] Re: package dpkg 1.15.5.6ubuntu4.1 failed to install/upgrade

2010-09-21 Thread Barbara Weiß
Hello,
it seems, that the problem came from a erroneous download. After reporting the
bug, I rebooted, but the boot was not successful. I reinstalled a backup of the
system recently stored (yes! I did), and I could boot again. Then I retried
actualization and it loaded down the packages again and the installation of the
updates worked fine now.

So please close this bug report as well as my other bug report #644224 .

2010-09-21 Thread Barbara Weiß
This bug occured, when I tried to update packages with dpkg and some
others deselected. It might be, that the bug on dpkg Bug #644216 ,
which I reported before, is the real bug and this one is just depending.

[Bug 477104] Re: After 9.10 grub update can not boot into Wubi install

2010-02-16 Thread Barbara
I installed Ubuntu on Feb 9th 2010 and have the same problems as first
reported in Nov 2009.

sh:grub ls
(loop0) (hd0) (hd0,3) (hd0,2) (hd0,1)
sh:grubroot
(loop0): Filesystem is ext2
sh:grub cat (loop0)/boot/grub/grub.cfg
bunch of zeros
sh:grubconfigfile (loop0)/boot/grub/grub.cfg
nothing

Also, I don't have a /dev/sda1.

Is there currently a work around or is the ubuntu installer for windows
fixed since Feb 9th?

[Bug 477104] Re: After 9.10 grub update can not boot into Wubi install

2010-02-16 Thread Barbara
Problem solved.
I had downloaded C:\wubildr as in comment 90. But I didn't see that windoze
didn't let me copy the file (the date was still Feb 9th). When I brute force
removed the file and then downloaded the file from comment 90, the date did
change and I booted in Ubuntu and voila, it works!

[Bug 304475] Re: Wireless mouse stops working after a few minutes of operation

2009-11-12 Thread Barbara
I am using Ubuntu 9.10 and find that the mouse stops working after the
system has been operating a short time. Happens no matter what software
package (Firefox, Evolution, Open Office, etc.) I am using. I can still
use the keyboard shortcuts (when I can find them!), and if I shut the
system down with Ctrl/Alt/Del and choose Shut Down with the alt key, let
the system rest a short time (15-20 minutes), reboot, and it will work
for a while. Then we go through the same routine.

[Bug 178961] Re: Roxen fonts failed to install because Roxen is not completely configured.

2009-02-04 Thread Barbara Henley
This failed because I didn't know the answers to the questions in the pop-up
box during the install. I don't know what I'm doing (duh), I just want to
create a photo album and the one I had already installed 'album shaper' didn't
work because of 'sql' or something like that.
I guess I'm just not meant to have an album creator on my computer, since this
was my second try at getting one!

2009-01-28 Thread Barbara Henley
This one wouldn't load. I don't know if I am missing a part of it or
not. Usually the Synaptic Package Manager will tell me if there is
another part that also needs to be loaded, so I don't know what went
wrong.

[Bug 268007] [NEW] network upgrade from 6.06 to 8.04 fails

2008-09-08 Thread Barbara Kreaseck
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

I attempted a network upgrade from Dapper to Hardy. Lot's of errors
with openoffice and perl warnings about failed locale settings.
Finally, arrived at the following:

Could not install the upgrades

The upgrade aborts now. Your system could be in an unusable state. A
recovery will run now (dpkg --configure -a)

installArchives() failed

I am including the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ ...

I see some discussions on the forums, but thought I would submit a
bugreport as requested. There is a similar report from a command line
upgrade failing from 7.10 to 8.04 (#230503).

Re: [Bug 182744] Re: unable to play DVDs or view movie clips in mozilla

2008-01-16 Thread barbara
Flash is working properly in Firefox. I have checked on several sites so
far

What do you use to be able to view movie clips on firefox?
My Totem application says that it is a movie viewer, so now
I am confused as to what you are supposed to use to view DVD's that you
put in your DVDplayer in the computer.
Thanks again for helping me.

2008-01-15 Thread barbara
Okay, I thought of one. I have a YouTube movie clip on my own website
I just checked and it plays nicely on my windows computer.
It just immediately disappears on the Ubuntu Linux.
Here is the site:
Cigarsbuythebox.com
In the right upper corner there is reference to something from Rocky Patel
Underneath is the words you click on to watch it.

Thanks
Barbara

Re: [Bug 182744] Re: unable to play DVDs or view movie clips in mozilla

2008-01-14 Thread barbara
I go to www.blockbuster.com and click on the movie, just like I always
do on my windows computer. I have tried several movies and none of them
will show. Here is a URL of the first movie showing that I clicked on:
http://www.blockbuster.com/catalog/movieDetails/34642
Then this is the message it gives me when I check on any of the
connection speeds:
Please update to the latest player version
for best performance (It has Windows media player and Real Player as
choices listed there)
My goal is to transition from Windows to Linux, but I am trying to make
sure that I can do all the same things before making a final transition.
I just installed this recently. I have some other issues too. Should I
repost them or mention it in a follow-up email to you? Thanks for your
help.

[Bug 82088] Manual TCP/IP settings overidden by roaming

2007-01-29 Thread Barbara
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

On doing the short test I typed in www.ubuntu.com to the address bar

I got back a server not found message.

This is what I then did:

System - Control Centre - Network (password)
* 2 network cards are enabled (eth0) and (eth1)
- both say 'roaming mode enabled' by default

Select (eth0) - Properties

Deselect 'enable roaming mode'(disconnected from the network)

Select 'Static IP Address' and entered IP Address and Gateway that are
known to work under Edgy

 - Ok

(eth0) still shows 'roaming mode enabled' and Properties of (eth0) show
manually entered values but they are disabled.

I then repeated the previous steps without re-entering the IP Address or
Gateway againseveral times.

Each time 'enable roaming mode' is deselected the network panel icon at
the top right corner tells me it's been disconnected from the
network...and will then reconnect.

I again typed in www.ubuntu.com to the address bar and again got the
server not found message.

[Bug 82095] nvidia resolution and 3d not initialised properly

2007-01-29 Thread Barbara
Public bug reported:

Last week I every day used 0.9 in Dapper and did not have any crash.

My last performed actions today :
- saved a file under a different name, let it open (with new name)
- went to some open terminal to delete the original file (old name)
- went back to Geany and edited then saved another file I had been editing for
a while.

Then Geany exited. Full log is attacheed (2.3 MB :-/ ).
