[Bug 1966440] Re: gnome-shell crashes often when using the menu (start) button
Thanks for looking into this. 'Wayland + nvidia drivers' seems to be very problematic...even with 510 I had to reboot in recovery and edit /etc/gdm3/custom.conf to disable wayland and reinstall nvidia 470 to get a working system again. I did enable some PPAs, for hardware like an intel realsense depth camera, just removing the PPAs did not fix the problems. I never enabled the 'proposed' a broken upgrade could be a thing... the dist-upgrade (20.04 >> 22.04) did crash and I had to do 'dpkg --configure -a' and 'apt --fix-broken' or something similar. Probably a fresh install is a good idea... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1966440 Title: gnome-shell crashes often when using the menu (start) button To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1966440/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1966440] [NEW] gnome-shell crashes often when using the menu (start) button
Public bug reported: No LSB modules are available. Then the screen flashes and we're back. All notification in the queue pop up again as well. It happens almost every time. I checked the PID of the gnome-shell in top, and it effectively changes so I believe the gnome-shell crashes. It shouldn't. How can I collect relevant debug info? I cannot seem to find a cause. [Bug 1780098] Re: pvgrub "premature end of file" on new kernel
Btw, while cleaning up the systems, I now found that in the /boot folder of one of the 2 systems that I upgraded and both (=all) failed with 4.4.0-130, I also saw a strange file named "initrd.img-4.4.0-139" that got installed at exactly same time than "initrd.img-4.4.0-130-generic" and other normal 4.4.0-130 files. [Bug 774795] Re: gnome-terminal corruption when switching workspaces
After reading bug 778083 I come to the conclusion that it is the same kind of bug. If you think it is useful you could merge the two bug reports. I installed the 64 bit version of Natty on another box than my laptop with a different graphics card (can't remember offhand which one) and the behaviour is the same. Therefore I suspect the bug is hardware independent. [Bug 747729] Re: fglrx crashes X server on startup
I already deleted my PAE kernel, therefore I reinstalled the removed packages: apt-get install linux-generic-pae linux-image-2.6.38-8-generic-pae linux-image-generic-pae These are the interesting lines: run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/postinst.d/dkms 2.6.38-8-generic-pae /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38-8-generic-pae * dkms: running auto installation service for kernel 2.6.38-8-generic-pae * fglrx (8.840)... Your kernel headers for kernel 2.6.38-8-generic-pae cannot be found at /lib/modules/2.6.38-8-generic-pae/build or /lib/modules/2.6.38-8-generic-pae/source. You can use the --kernelsourcedir option to tell DKMS where it's located, or you could install the linux-headers-2.6.38-8-generic-pae package. Then I added the PAE headers...: apt-get install linux-headers-2.6.38-8-generic-pae ... which built and installed the missing driver automatically: ... run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/header_postinst.d/dkms 2.6.38-8-generic-pae /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38-8-generic-pae * dkms: running auto installation service for kernel 2.6.38-8-generic-pae * fglrx (8.840)... The missing package (linux-headers-2.6.38-8-generic-pae) was not present when I updated to 11.04. After some more trying I found the following facts: Default kernel is vmlinuz-2.6.38-8-generic-pae, but when I use vmlinuz-2.6.38-8-generic (i. e. without this physical address extension) it works perfectly. [Bug 774795] [NEW] gnome-terminal corruption when switching workspaces
Public bug reported: My box is a Lenovo T400 (4 GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 3400). After I upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04 via Update Manager, gnome-terminals undergo a corruption when being redrawn under certain cirumstances. The system is fully patched. I use Gnome 2.32.1 with Metacity. In workspace 1 Firefox is open, in workspace 2 are several xterms (created with gnome-terminal --geometry=100x40). In one of these xterms vi is running. When I switch from workspace 1 to 2 with Crt-Alt-Arrow, the content of the xterm with vi is sometimes not redrawn correctly. In these cases it contains the stuff of the Firefox window of this screen position. I need to move the faulty xtrem just by one pixel, and everything is redrawn correctly. This is not exactly reproducible, it simply happens from time to time. I still try to find a pattern for this behaviour. lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 11.04 Release:11.04 apt-cache policy gnome-terminal gnome-terminal: Installed: 2.32.1-0ubuntu3 Candidate: 2.32.1-0ubuntu3 Version table: *** 2.32.1-0ubuntu3 0 500 http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Please let me know if you need more detailed information. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/774795 Title: gnome-terminal corruption when switching workspaces -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hello Lean First I tried it with the CD Image karmic 9.10 with the same problems as reported with ubuntu 9.04. After this I installed karmic on my hard drive and updated it, which didn't change the problem. Then I tried the MainlineBuild vmlinuz-2.6.31-020631rc6-generic (amd 64) which didn't chage the problem. My laptop seems to suspend with the power-button blinking. When I try to resume there seems to be some disk activity but it ends with a black screen. With 9.04 it also suspended. On trying to resume there are vertical colored lines appearing on my screen which never lead to a new login. The problem appears each time I try to suspend also with older versions of ubuntu 8.10. Is there any more specific information I can send you to fix this problem? Greetings Beat Steiger Leann Ogasawara schrieb: Hi beat steiger, This was reported a while ago but hasn't had any recent activity. Can you confirm this issue exists with the most recent Karmic Koala 9.10 Alpha release. ISO CD images are available at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic/ . You should be able to test Suspend from a LiveCD. If the issue remains with Karmic it would be great to then also test the latest upstream mainline kernel available. This will allow additional upstream developers to examine this issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Hi Leann Ogaswara The issue remains the same with Karmic Koala (amd 64).th After suspend the notebook doesn't resume and doesn't respond to keyboard input anymore. So you have to shut down with turning off the power. Does it help if i install karmic koala, so i can send a report?
