[Bug 440625] [NEW] [ubuntu 9.10 beta] keyboard layout (dvorak) does not apply post-installation

2009-10-02 Thread Christer Edwards
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I installed Ubuntu 9.10 beta using the ubuntu-9.10-beta-desktop-i386.iso
image (md5sum verified). During the installation I was asked for my
keyboard layout, which I selected as USA - Dvorak. This layout applied
and worked properly during the installation, but was not applied post-
installation.

I have tried changing the layout in System Preferences Keyboard by
adding Dvorak and setting it as the default. I also tried the Apply
System-Wide... button. While this seems to have changed the layout for
my user account this does not affect the GDM layout. I must still login
using qwerty.

[Bug 440635] [NEW] [ubuntu 9.10 beta] required icon themes missing for two included GNOME themes

2009-10-02 Thread Christer Edwards
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I installed the Ubuntu 9.10 beta release using the desktop iso. Post
installation I went to change my theme and found that icon sets for two
of the included themes are missing.

New Wave, Dust and Dust Sand are missing required icon themes. This
results in an inconsistent theme when selected, as well as a reported
error in the Appearance Preferences application.

If these additional themes are going to be included they should be
included in entirety.

[Bug 338035] Re: Origami doesn't start automatically on startup in Jaunty

2009-03-24 Thread Christer Edwards
You can try two things to see if you have better success.

sudo update-rc.d origami defaults

sudo /var/lib/origami/foldingathome/installService

It sounds like, for whatever reason, the symbolic links weren't setup
properly between the /etc/init.d/origami and the runlevels. Either of
the above commands should populate those.

Please let me know if this problem persists.

[Bug 228360] [NEW] [hardy] intel driver not properly recognizing Canon RS02 projector

2008-05-08 Thread Christer Edwards
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

The following are my findings on testing the intel video driver (C2D
MacBook) in combination with the Canon RS02 Projector.

1) Power down the laptop, connect projector and reboot:
  - display is mirrored on the projector, although a bit off-center.
  - at gdm login load the projector complains it can no longer detect display.
  - post login attempting to mirror the display on projector fails (xrandr
--output VGA --auto, etc)
  - Screen Resolution tool does not detect projector

2) Power on laptop sans projector, plugin post login:
  - display is mirrored on projector, 1024x768 resolution (MacBook is 1280x800)
  - Screen Resolution tool does not detect projector (see attached screenshot)
  - Testing upside down rotation garbles projector display
  - Reverting to normal fixes garbled output.
  - Testing left rotation garbles projector (although not as bad)
  - Testing right rotation garbles projector to the same extent as left
  - Detect Displays makes projector flickr but no additional items are
reported in Screen Resolution tool.
  - Switching to Clone Screens within Screen Resolution tool and attempting
rotation garbles both displays.
  - Video playback (VLC) displays properly on projector, blue-screen within
player on MacBook
  - Video playback (MPlayer) displays properly on projector, black-screen
within player on MacBook

These tests were run using Ubuntu 8.04 hardy with -proposed enabled
(2.6.24-17-generic) and the xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.2.1-1ubuntu13
driver.

[Bug 224771] [NEW] ufw unable to find modules

2008-04-30 Thread Christer Edwards
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ufw

I get this error during boot-output after a 7.10 - 8.04 upgrade:

 * Starting firewall: ufw...
FATAL: Module nf_conntrack_ftp not found.
FATAL: Module nf_nat_ftp not found.
FATAL: Module nf_conntrack_irc not found.

Do these normally come with ufw or the iptables packages? Are they part

2008-04-30 Thread Christer Edwards
Public bug reported:

[Bug 223735] [NEW] action on one display causes noise on the other display

2008-04-28 Thread Christer Edwards
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I don't know if this is directly against gnome-display-properties or
perhaps its an xrandr bug, but I get noise on one display when using
applications on the other.

Example:
if I launch gnome-do on the lower display the shadow displays (and does not

noisy line in the upper display.

[Bug 220820] [NEW] [hardy RC] i386 installer can not reboot post-install on Dell Precision 490 N Series

2008-04-22 Thread Christer Edwards
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: debian-installer

I was doing some iso testing this evening for the final images prior to
release and I found that the i386 installer can not reboot post-
installation. It stalls at:

Sending SIGKILL to all processes.
Please standby while rebooting the system.
[foo.foo] SD2:0:0:0: [sda] synchronizing SCSI cache
[foo.foo] ACPI: PCI Interrupt for device :0C:02.0 Disabled
[foo.foo] Restarting System

The machine must be powered down manually to be restarted.

The amd64bit installer on the other hand (tested on the same hardware)
rebooted just fine with no issues.

This is on Dell Precision 490 N Series. See attached cpuinfo output.

[Bug 210561] Re: Time zone changes on every boot

I have a similar issue, but I've changed my time with time-admin via the
system menu.

I travel quite a bit and I change my system time zone when I arrive in a
new location. The time updates promptly when I change it, but after a
reboot (ie; shutting down the laptop between the office and hotel) it
reverts to my original time zone.

[Bug 212075] [NEW] [hardy beta] encrypting partitions at installation should allow for single passphrase to unlock all

2008-04-04 Thread Christer Edwards
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: debian-installer

I selected 'manual partitioning' during installation and encrypted two
partitions. I find it annoying/overkill to ask for a passphrase for
each of these partitions during boot. It would be nice if there were at
least an option of 'use shared passphrase' or something, allowing the
user to unlock multiple encrypted partitions with a single passphrase.

[Bug 209347] [NEW] upgrade-manager fails to properly update /etc/fstab for hda - sda change

2008-03-30 Thread Christer Edwards
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

I just did an upgrade from an up-to-date 6.06.2 machine to 8.04 beta
using do-release-upgrade -d. Everything actually went very smoothly
until the reboot at the end. On the reboot the partitions all failed to
mount because they were all listed in the fstab as /dev/hdX, whereas the
new current standard is /dev/sdX. I manually updated the /etc/fstab and
everything worked fine.

The update manager utility should try to update this or, if detected at
launch, instruct the user to transition to labels/UUID perhaps.

The man / info pages should be update to actually list the available

option that the --help displayed and I found the option at all).

[Bug 194522] [NEW] [hardy alpha 4] ssh-askpass-gnome does not take focus

2008-03-07 Thread Christer Edwards
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ssh-askpass-gnome

I am using ssh-askpass-gnome to graphically manage my keys. Upon first
connection the graphical window opens to prompt for the passphrase but
it does not get the input focus, so the key entry is put into the
terminal behind it.

ssh-askpass-gnome should have the input focus by default.

[Bug 127798] Re: file roller can't recognize second of duplicate files

2008-03-07 Thread Christer Edwards
Still seems to be an issue on Hardy.

Navigating to a .bz2 file in Firefox I am prompted to open it with
Archive Manager, which works properly the first time.

Closing that window and re-addressing the link again prompts for opening
with Archive Manager but then displays a filename.1.

filename.1 is properly recognized as an archive, but there are now two
files in /tmp. The original and a -1.

Seems to still be the same behaviour in hardy as the original bug.
